Migration killing tourism

The European governments are going to have to choose between migrants and tourists:
Tourists from China are avoiding France amid surging violence and crime, a Chinese tourism expert has said, reporting that customers are turning to Russia as a safer destination.

President of the Chinese Association of Travel Agencies in France, Jean-François Zhou, said “increasingly violent” thefts and assaults are turning France into “one of the worst destinations for foreign tourists”.

Mr. Zhou, a representative for major Chinese travel agency Utour in France, reported a steep decline in visitor numbers from Asia, and said many tourists are now looking to Russia as a less dangerous holiday destination

“In 2016, there were 1.6 million Chinese tourists compared to 2.2 million in 2015. The  number of Japanese tourists dropped 39 per cent, and Koreans 27 per cent. Our tourists have turned to Russia, which is less attractive but at least it is a safe country. For Putin, it is an economic windfall”, he told Le Parisien.

Rising violence and aggression account for the drop, according to Mr. Zhou, who said: “For a number of Chinese tourists, the dream of visiting France and Paris has turned into a nightmare.

“[Chinese tourists] are robbed in the palace of Versailles, at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, in front of their hotel, as they leave the coaches … In high season, not a day goes by without tourists being assaulted.”
You can try to talk your way around reality as long as you like. But eventually, people are going to notice the gap between what you're saying and what they're seeing, and then the web of words will fail. I'm just surprised that Russia is already beginning to become a tourist destination. Should it eventually become more popular than the USA, the decline will be unmistakable.

Thats...

The crime rate in Russia is not low. So if it's actually safer than *France*, then France is in really bad shape.

A lot of the crime rate in Russia is violence in the suburbs due to alcohol abuse. Stay away from drunks & stay near city centers & you're golden.

I mentioned on a much earlier thread that I visited Europe, specifically Germany, for the first time last August. We had been warned of crowds, but tourism was down. We didn't have many hotel reservations, and we had no trouble buying train tickets at the last minute and getting hotel rooms as walk-ins.

Tourism was down. Downtown Munich near the train station looked like a bazaar in the Mideast. No German being spoken. It left a bad taste in my mouth. Fortunately, we found parts of Germany and Austria that were untainted to offset that.

Same thing happened to me -- twice -- at the base of Sacre Coeur on two different vacations. The first time I yelled at the guy pretty loud and he got scared and backed off but the second time there was a bit of an altercation in a couple of his dindus came to his aid. I had my tripod fold it up and I was ready to do some serious damage with it but they were way too many for me

All over the West, large and not so large cities will have to be quarantined somehow. Most likely with travel restrictions, until they can be de-contaminated.

We saw this coming 2 yrs ago, like a lumbering cargo train of death. Somebody will need to come up with a Tourist guide to the remaining safe parts of Europe. And services hiring out bodyguards to see more marginal parts. It will be a boon for the off the beaten track regions. It is also going to be a boon for Eastern Europe, esp Hungary which had the fortitude to protect itself.

So refugees are now tourists? Came for the free money stayed for the rape.

Anonymous Sevatar January 18, 2017 11:18 PM

Interesting topic. I have some experience in this area and this is not a surprise at all.

France is no longer seen as safe in China. Some wealthy Chinese I know (rolls royce levels) where planning to visit and live part time in Paris (doing courses etc.). After the last few years those plans are no longer considered and they will either go to the USA or Australia/New Zealand for tourism and/or masters degrees etc. Also workers for Chinese companies that I know are worried to travel to parts of Western Europe for business.

The boom for tourism in Russia has a number of factors contributing to it. Alot of it is 'red' tourism as in older people on tours visiting communist type sites as well the major attractions. However there is also younger tourism such as viral videos of Chinese celebrities in Irkutsk which led to boom in tourism to this region of Russia. To see the growth just look at the financial growth of airlines such as s7 and the expansion of flight routes from Russia to China (although this still needs to be expanded significantly and to many routes involve changing plans in Siberia). However there is significant upside potential if Russia can tap into the luxury and independent segments which are trends in China as well as making trips less stressful such as improving communication and food service. If they can start developing an Australian style promotional campaign that will help as well.

Overall the Australian/New Zealand strategy I would regard as the best globally. Those Chinese that used to want to visit Europe are now visiting Australia. In China Australia is consistently ranked as the most desired international location for tourism, although it is lower in actual visits. Australia is seen as safe and clean and easier for Chinese tourists to visit independently. Also the air routes to Australia have rapidly expanded and a lot of 2nd tier cities in China have direct flight daily to various main cities in Australia. To put it in perspective the tourism target for 2020 (set in 2012 I think) was already been achieved a few years ago and they might even be able to double it before 2020.

There has been significant growth in independent and luxury travel. For example I know a business that organises luxury tourism in New Zealand. This involves private jets from China to the South Island. Rural locations, horse riding, wineries, helicopter tours etc. They are now expanding into Australia.

Basically as Western Europe keeps letting diversity shoot them in the foot countries like Australia/New Zealand and increasingly Russia will see sustained growth in tourism.

France has some nice cities to visit, but polluted Paris isn't one of them, nor is Marseille. Lyon is probably the nicest French tourist city if you want to visit France in particular. Lyon has particularly good restaurants and the downtown core is in-between two rivers so it doesn't suffer from excessive grandiosity like Paris (i.e. you can walk it). Otherwise some of the Bohemian cultures (like Prague) are well-worth visiting instead.

Around 10,000 millionaires left the country in 2015, according to a report by New World Wealth, which provides analysis on the global wealth sector.

Paris saw the biggest exodus of high net worth individuals, with 7,000 millionaires leaving the city last year. That's roughly 6% of Paris' millionaires, a population of 126,000, according to the new report."

@82 "The first to flee: the rich elites. The Business people, "journalists", politicians - and so on. The two latter, fleeing from their own "do-Gooding"."

This is probably some heretofore unrecognized physical law: The greater the distance fled, the louder and more magnified the hectoring to those below them.

Ohio lawns tend to amplify this to a shrill degree.

"How far from (insert urban center) do you live?" Is a good question to ask journo reporting on diversity. Of course, they will lie.

Anonymous Philipp January 19, 2017 5:35 AM

For once the media shows reality and does not lie. Watch this video clip from the French media regarding the situation in the banlieus (suburbs). Notice the missing women and the missing magic dirt.

When I arried at the Gare de Lyon in Paris last spring and went into the metro station, I though I was in Africa. Only black people were around. Worse than in London.

For the Americans who want to visit Western Europe safely, go to the countryside. Most refugees, vibrants and Muslims live in the big cities. Visit the countryside, stay away from tourist hotspots and you will have a very safe and enjoyable holiday.

How little you know the French - France is the original nation of SJWs, they lie. The lie especially when something makes them look good to others. As a nation they are so insecure they will claim to be best at everything and anything.

Case in point:
1. France is a linguistic prison so the vast majority of French people holiday in France. They are all counted as tourists.

- They have government subsidized "cheques vacances" which can only be spent in tourist destinations in France.

- Traditionally, French people own holiday homes so their "holidays" are basically living in their second homes for a week - they contribute nothing to the economy.

- Being socialist, the French have a lot of holidays, each time they take a break somewhere else in France it counts to their tourism statistics.

Geographically, France is located between the real tourists in northern Europe (Germany, Holland, Scandinavia) and their preferred destinations (Spain and Italy.) Every northern European driving through France to holiday in Spain or Italy is counted towards France's bloated tourist statistics.

France has a huge propaganda budget to convince foreigners that it isn't over run with migrants, rude waiters, over-rated food, over-priced drinks and streets covered in spit, dog shit and cigarette buts and it still has to fudge the tourism figures. Go elsewhere for your holidays.

We could call this the "Scalzi Effect," except this is already being used to describe the loss of secondary sex characteristics and chins in adult males.

Making a fuss while being white is the greatest crime in France - migrants get a pass.

Once a car knocked my bike while my young child was in it. I gave the driver a piece of my mind and all the witnesses (it was during commuting hours so all whites) all turned on me for daring to raise my voice in public. Running over kids is dandy but don't you dare complain about it.

French live in constant fear of being called out for their own hypocrisy and will fight to the death for anyone to have the right to do anything awful except complain about the explicit selfishness of their society.

France has been under martial law since the "Charlie Hebdo" incident so make sure you are travelling with your papers in order.

I get threatened every couple of months just for walking down the streets in tourist areas, heaven forbid I accidentally wandered into one of the growing sharia no go zones. I know police who have quit because they aren't allowed to arrest migrants. Those left, when not on strike, patrol with machine gun armed soldiers.

Bataclan & Nice are just the tip of the jihadi iceberg since the media is mute or spins the "lone wolf"/"troubled kid"/"workplace incident" when the mad mullahs strike (I find out about the latest attacks in France from UK newspapers)

Tourists events in my town have been cancelled or greatly reduced in scope because of the threat, Christmas markets and tourists spots are patrolled by the army. Bags (mainly belonging to nice whites who won't make a fuss) are randomly checked in shopping centers and shops.

I don't know who you are shilling for @Craig but either you are seriously misinformed or lying so why don't you just shut up now?

Definately not the London of my youth in the 80s-early 90s. Worse than even what I saw in 2008.

@75. The unbelievable part of the story is that people like you apparently feel a driving, compulsive need to deny it, regardless of the fact that it's true.

Anonymous BBGKB January 19, 2017 10:26 AM

You already have. The odds of anything happening to you in Europe, let alone France, are so small as to be no deterrent at all... Your fear is unreasonable.

The last time I was I Europe I could walk thru the bad sections of cities even stepping over passed out junkies without fear. Now both Paris and London have had their nations soldiers beheaded in broad daylight in the capital. If I went to Europe now I would have to bring someone that isn't as handy in a fight. I have always known it's never the right time to be in the wrong place. The last time I visited PARIS was within a few years of winning a street fight unarmed against 5 niggers that jumped me after I was too equalist to look around for a pack of niggers before using an ATM, honestly I am not sure if I could win a fight unarmed against 5 niggers that started with a sucker punch today.

This is basic survival advice for pretty much anywhere in the developed world.

All white urban areas are amazingly safe.

Soviet Russia always had quite a bit of tourism. Google says 4 million foreign tourists in 1975, and 1980 in particular was an Olympic year

The guy who used to run Sipsey Street Irregulars 3% blog said that they would fly communists over to Russia and set them up with underage sex partners. He even offered money for copies of the KGB files for a Connecticut gun control law maker.

I had an 8hr layover and had to get from Charles de Gaulle to Orly airport. So called the local sales manager to pick me up and take me to Eiffel tower. Think this was in 2014. Also drove down Champs Elysee. Paris is dirty, what appears to be tent cities alongside the freeways. No need for me to go back.

Blogger Sheila4g January 19, 2017 11:22 AM

While knowing the language certainly helps, anyone who has the $ and the time ought to visit Russia and other countries in the eastern part of Europe. St. Petersburg was rightly called the Venice of the East (I think it's prettier and, at least when I was there in the '80s, certainly cleaner). Go walk along the Neva during the White Nights. Spend the day at Peterhof. Budapest is lovely; Prague is stunning.

I realize the '80s and '90s were ancient history re rapefugees in Europe, but I walked around Frankfurt and Vienna without a care in those days (first alone and later with my husband). Fair number of Turks in Berlin, but even then I saw mostly White Germans. Never went to France (yes, I suppose I'm weird in that I never wanted to visit Paris). The London tube was safe and there really weren't that many Africans that I can recall. I was surprised by the number of Pakistanis and Malays in Leeds, but again, I realize their numbers are now many multiples of what I saw. I don't know that I could bear to go back to Europe today and see what's become of it.

I remember the hoot over the article in a Chinese airline in-flight magazine advising Chinese tourists to stay away from the immigrant areas of London. The mayor, who is Muslim himself, was outraged and denounced the article, forcing the inflight magazine to print a retraction. I doubt the retraction changed anyone's mind.

To those saying they want to see Eastern Europe: do it. Poland, Romania, the Baltic states, Hungary are all amazing countries with warm people, great history and a lot of beautiful things to see with barely any tourists. Romania is a particular favourite. Any land where Vlad the Impaler is the national hero is alright by me.

Britain is also fine. Just avoid London and any of the former industrial cities. The old industrial hubs were bombed to smithereens by the Luftwaffe so there hasn't been anything to see for a while anyway. I live in London and the change over the last 5 years has been shocking. The city is dead. Get yourselves to East Anglia, the West Country, North Wales, the North East, Herefordshire, Shropshire, etc. There's loads to see and do.

And those of you wandering about @Craig, I'd say it's clear we've got a distinguished visitor. Dr Craig Considine of Rice University: https://twitter.com/craigcons

Once you realize it takes years for an American to get a woek permit in Europe, and might never get one at all in France, it becomes obvious she'd been planning this move a long time, and Trump had nothing whatever to do with it.
