Periscope test

I'm going to try one in a few hours. Since I'm locked out of my Twitter account again, I have no idea how it will be announced, or if you have to follow my Periscope account independently of my Twitter account. We'll just press the red button and see what happens.

Anyhow, if you're on Twitter/Periscope, please let me know here if an alert pops up and if you're able to watch it, assuming you are so inclined.

Also, for the really old school readers, I'm going to be publishing a complete set of all my WND columns soon, in three volumes. If you were a reader of my column from 2001 to 2005 and would be interested in writing an introduction to that volume of around 1500 words, please let me know in the comments here.

I'm not looking for anything fawning, just a straightforward reader's perspective on the historical column.

UPDATE: apparently you can follow me through periscope.tv here. Only 63,000 fewer followers than Cernovich!

UPDATE: It worked! 267 people showed up and watched - thank you all - and you can apparently watch a recording here. Quality wasn't as nice as it usually seems to be on Mike's but it did work. I'll probably do another one tomorrow to discuss the inauguration and take some questions about the next four years.

Do you want an introduction someone would put their name to, or can we remain an anonymous VFM? I read all of them, and your column and Ann Coulter's were the go-to reading in the post-9/11 world. I remember reloading again and again to see if Mr. Farah had it on Sunday afternoon or if I'd have to wait until Monday morning.

Anonymous llsepher January 19, 2017 4:42 PM

Woohoo!!! I cant wait! I hope I don't miss it though. You could always post an announcement on Gab.

Blogger VD January 19, 2017 4:47 PM

Do you want an introduction someone would put their name to, or can we remain an anonymous VFM?

A name is necessary, but it could certainly be a pen name.

Anonymous WaterBoy January 19, 2017 4:52 PM

I remember Talk Amongst Yourselves on Sunday evenings, trying to guess what the next day's column would be about...invariably getting it wrong, though.

Blogger Merlinus January 19, 2017 5:04 PM

About time. Your columns were the only thing worth reading at WND.

Blogger Dave January 19, 2017 5:10 PM

Can we watch from periscope.tv if it doesn't show up on twitter? Attempted search on periscope.tv for Vox Day tells me cannot find any broadcast that match.

All I know of periscope is watching Cernovich on his twitter.

Anonymous I am a Hat January 19, 2017 5:12 PM

Was it really that long ago? It was the one column I would read regularly on WND, but my memory is not that good. :)

Blogger Wanderer January 19, 2017 5:25 PM

Is there a way to watch this when it's not live? If it's in a few hours then I'll probably be busy then.

Blogger Nate January 19, 2017 5:27 PM

oh man... i loved your columns at WND... The email response columns were particular favorites... even as they evolved into this blog.

I could certainly provide the perspective of a guy that woke up ever monday morning and thought... "well... lets see what that crazy S.O.B has to say today."

Blogger Dave January 19, 2017 5:36 PM

What I'm seeing online is you don't need a Twitter account to start broadcasting video through the service from your smartphone. However your periscope account would have to be linked to your phone number not your Twitter account. If you used your Twitter id to login onto periscope, I doubt Twitter will live stream periscope on your locked account.

Blogger Clint January 19, 2017 5:43 PM

I would suppose that most of us guys from way back then would be happy to write up an intro. I also remember the "guess the topic" conversations. You, Ann Coulter, and Pat Buchanan were the only things I regularly read at WND.

Anonymous A Deplorable Paradigm Is More Than Twenty Cents January 19, 2017 5:49 PM

Was it during the WND columns that you became Literally Hitler or did that only happen here at the blogspot? Just a small point I'd like cleared up.

Just checked who I was following on Periscope (Cerno and Roosh are must follows) and I was shocked to discover I wasn't following the Supreme Dark Lord. Two minutes in the penalty box for me, where I will feel shame.

And yes, Periscope has its own alert system which is independent of Twitter (granted, Twitter will also alert you if you happen to follow Vox there).

Blogger Mad Ahnun January 19, 2017 5:54 PM

Since I am slow, what is VD's periscope?

Anonymous #8601 January 19, 2017 6:05 PM

@15 Mad, just search for voxday on periscope.

BTW, a number of folks will likely be periscoping live from tonight's Deploraball, as well as many other inauguration events in Washington this weekend. I'm sure Cerno will be out covering the protests like a madman.

Blogger VD January 19, 2017 6:07 PM

If you used your Twitter id to login onto periscope, I doubt Twitter will live stream periscope on your locked account.

My Twitter account isn't locked. I just can't get into it because I won't give them a phone number.

Blogger VD January 19, 2017 6:10 PM

You, Ann Coulter, and Pat Buchanan were the only things I regularly read at WND.

The three most popular columns, as it happened. You weren't alone.

Was it during the WND columns that you became Literally Hitler or did that only happen here at the blogspot?

It was here.

Blogger Dave January 19, 2017 6:13 PM

Mad, just search for voxday on periscope

On periscope.tv a search for vox day or @voxday doesn't return anything. Are you referring to the phone app?

Blogger Dave January 19, 2017 6:20 PM

My Twitter account isn't locked. I just can't get into it because I won't give them a phone number.

Is your periscope account tied to your twitter ID? Interesting case; if you can't access your account will Twitter still live stream your periscopes? We'll soon find out.

OpenID originalh January 19, 2017 6:28 PM

I read every single column since that first one in August 2001 about USB hubs... I'd occasionally read Sowell, Farah, Buchanan, and Coulter, but Vox's Technocracy was what consistently brought me back in the wee hours of every Sunday night/Monday morning.

Blogger SB Wright January 19, 2017 7:48 PM

Vox, only caught the last few minutes of the Periscope, but I encourage you to make this as regular a feature as you can. I am not familiar with medium’s setup: can people stream a Periscope session that has already ended? If not please consider recording them and posting to YouTube afterwards; these will get views you will lose on some days just due to the time zone differences. Also, I will second the comment above about the volume. My computer was all the way up and it was still fairly quiet.

Idle curiosity: in response to someone asking what you are playing now, you mentioned a few games you are playing as well as designing. Did you say you are working on a car game of some kind? Are you an auto enthusiast? I ask because you’ve written about politics, music, sports, technology, economics, etc., but I can only recall cars as normal parts of anecdotes you were relating (“I got lost while driving with my family to a soccer match and local villagers who thought I was Brazilian at first realized I’m an American and pantomimed that the NSA is listening to everyone’s phone calls…”)

Blogger Michael Maier January 19, 2017 7:49 PM

I use these guys for my business. https://www.phone.com.
Out of the few that I've used over the years they work the best. Gives me a legitimate number that is forwarded to my cell phone. Keeps the cell # private and best of all if someone is an annoying fuck you can very easily block the number.

not bad, i'm sure you'll get better as you acclimate. Craig Ferguson became one of the most relaxed and in-his-element late night hosts, a marked change from when he first started.

don't be concerned about slowing your cadence and tempo. this will give the appearance of greater self assurance as well as the additional benefit of giving you more time to formulate your responses.

Amusing to see Vox appear self-conscious in front of the camera, given his confident, bold style of writing.

Obviously, it's a different kettle of fish, and as someone who sucked at public speaking and presentation before improving, I recommend

1. Not swaying as much. Either sit down, or plant your feet firmly in the same position.

2. Pause between sentences if you have to, but try avoid conversation stalling phrases like "you know", "uhh...", etc.

But I definitely expect Vox to improve with practice.

And on the bright side, I can certainly think of good sociopolitical writers who are much, much worse speakers than you. (David Horowitz comes to mind)

Blogger Snidely Whiplash January 19, 2017 8:30 PM

I'm not self-conscious. I simply didn't know: a) the device, b) the software, c) the operating system, or d) what I was going to talk about.

I didn't even know if it would transmit, given the link to my frozen Twitter account. That was just a test.

Blogger Snidely Whiplash January 19, 2017 8:46 PM

Blogger Austin Ballast January 19, 2017 8:47 PM

Include the direct link to the test next time if you can. Searching still finds nothing, though the direct link in the comments works.

I have found that speaking without ums and ahs can be harder than it seems, especially if I don't have things planned out.

Practice does definitely help in this case.

I am just wondering how to do it without sacrificing some level of anonymity. Writing can be hard to match (though I have seen advances in that), but a video or even just picture, makes it a lot easier to say Joe X is the same as Bob Q.

Blogger Austin Ballast January 19, 2017 8:48 PM

The link was in the update, not the comments, but I still could not find it ahead of time. I am not sure that it mattered much, but I have done very little on periscope so far.

Blogger bob kek mando ( Death To The Boor-geois, Keks To The Lol-etariat ) January 19, 2017 8:48 PM

yes.

because people getting fired always receive 6 month contract extensions.

His contract was set to expire in June 2014, but a six-month extension was agreed on in order to provide a more graceful exit and give CBS more time to find a replacement host.[36][37] He reportedly received US$5 million as part of his contract because he was not selected as the replacement for Letterman's Late Show.

i've no doubt that he would have taken over the Late Show after Letterman retired if given the opportunity, but Letterman chose someone else.

i'm curious who you think Ferguson is suppose to have backed AGAINST Letterman / WorldWidePants.

i mean, you DO realize that Letterman OWNS the "Late Night" copyright and marks, yes?

Great video!! You are good at this!!

I am soooo happy about Trump, sure we don't look to politicians for anything but I am thrilled with the Trumps.

I would be elated to hang out with Spacebunny the pets and pick through the library in the background.

I strongly advise a standing workstation, sitting kills. unless its our beloved truck drivers, please stand, move, do 'yoga with Adrienne' at Youtube.

My vote was not counted as I voted for Trump. I sent this documentation to others, I voted Trump for myself, dad and I - mom said in 4/2015 before she died he would run and if he did lobby others to vote for him, Donald and Melania to the Trumps Kids ARE LOVED. Mom died 5/2015.

I have a wedding proposal, my grants were completed, funded, my art label is doing well, another company picked me up to do actuarial work upon my stating I'm alt right Trumper, I hate feminism, I identify as a bottle of white glitter paint, upon refusing to check off man, woman, etc. They said, "hired," 85k ok for you? I said yeah, whatever, I'd work for free since its right down the road so they are paying my car insurance, my rent and buying my food.

Teaching ballet and yoga turned into also teaching art/calligraphy/rosemahling. So I am working on resting more and recouping more.

And a certain super intel once told me to not sell my game guides, one of my students like the dark souls fan art so those game guides are being used.

I am also so happy to report why I changed my handle from lp999 to LP9 to Happy LP9. Mom and dad both read Trumps books and in NC its true I was a gangster in banking and real estate. I shut down 2 banks by the time I was 28 while helping others into nice overhauled homes. I lost my home and my rep at 28 because I dont do dirty banking.

I am nearing 40 and I am marrying - if the group not here but at Gab approves. Mom and dad are not able to bless any union of mine, dad is too sick but he knows the Meditations even of Roy Masters.

I've lost everything 4 times and fought back, won back. I tell you, the Lord gives back what was stolen when I humble myself and say, its your Will not my Will.

Its true I'm on reduced medical leave but damn it I fight because I am a fighter - I bought short term disability insurance to pay without SSI Sh-t.

My issues are footnotes and footstools to success and greater thinking the Musing's post earlier was great balm to my wounds. I won't forget that because Dad read the same things in the Vox's Musings post 1/19 and I wasn't able to accept them yet. But now I understand...

I thank you all for not throwing me away and for helping me when I was so sick, thank you!

Blogger Snidely Whiplash January 20, 2017 2:45 AM

And I wonder if you understand that simply by changing the name of the show, Viacom could have cut Letterman out of the revenue entirely.
Yes, Ferguson was backed by Letterman, who had exactly zero influence the second he announced his retirement. The network decided Colbert would work better for their purposes and there was literally nothing Letterman could do about it.

Heretic. Allah is the other fellow.

Hmm. Random OT (no pun intended) thought: Do “Allah” and “Moloch” have similar enough consonant patterns to be related words?

Anonymous Rocklea January 20, 2017 4:03 AM

Very good, will improve your reach, particularly with daily content. I look forward to the introduction of news on infogalactic, bound to be a household name in the not to distant future. I reiterate a call for posting Suspicious0bservers youtube channel on the daily news feed, as they produce daily content and have the potential to take science in a more sane and predictive direction.

Anonymous TheHiss January 20, 2017 4:20 AM

I think (without checking) that "Allah" is related to the Hebrew word "Eloah" (singular of Elohim), while Moloch is related to "Melek" (=king).

"Allah" is not a name. It just means "God". And as such is used by Middle Eastern Christians as their word for God. I remember my surprise attending Mass in the Co-Cathedral in Valletta when they started by singing the hymn "Allah kebir" (better known to us in English as How great is God). I haven't spelled that right in Maltese (which is a form of Arabic), I know.

Blogger Snidely Whiplash January 20, 2017 5:14 AM

Allah is not really the generic word for God, or god. Allah is the name of the pagan Arabic moon god, the patron god of Mecca. Mighty Mo adopted it as the name of his debased and degenerate version of the real God, and suppressed any other way to refer to god, including any generic word for the concept. Literally, in Arabic, there is no way to refer to a pagan god except as a "false Allah".

Christian Arabs were forced by the language (and their neighbors) to use Allah as the name of God the Father. There is no longer any other way to express the concept of divinity.
