Jailing sanctuary city sheriffs

Texas Gov. Abbott is making a strong case to succeed the God-Emperor in 2024:
On Newsmax TV’s “The Steve Malzberg Show,” Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) said he will confront the issue of cities that refuse to comply with immigration law by signing legislation that could jail sheriffs of sanctuary cities.

Abbott said, “We have been pushing a piece of legislation in Texas that is going to pass that I will be signing into law that imposes even sterner penalties on counties. It will include things such as further defunding them. It will impose fines. And it could impose jail time for these sheriffs to enforce the laws. Oddly enough these sheriffs could wind up behind the very bars they are releasing these criminals from.”
I know nothing about this guy except that he's coming out strong on both corporate interference in state politics and sanctuary cities. It's good to see.

The issue of States' Rights was settled in 1865. Ignore the mendacious appeals to federalism by the Left. Hell, ignore all of their mendacious appeals to our ideals. We don't have any ideals any more because we don't live in Pangloss's ideal world.

Victory first.

I really like Abbott, but the way these things usually go, his order will probably be blocked by some judge in the near future. If he tells the judge to piss off and has the sheriffs enforce it anyway, though, I will personally start an "Abbott 2024" campaign.

You are being censored. I am also disconcerted that Infogalatic News does not show up. The only way to make it appear is to type "vox" at the end of the phrase.

They are moving fast in censorship.

Jackson had the right idea. Let judges enforce their rulings.

Tony Abbott did the same thing with immigration in Australia, he told the armed forces to disobey judges and he would have their backs, they did so without fail and the judges were shown to be the saboteurs they are.

It also was moral teflon as people support the armed forces far more then they do a bunch of black robbed tyrants.

Well, yes, but this is why I support Calexit. :)

Trial lawyer and long-time judge. AG under Rick Perry. In a wheelchair since a tree fell on him while jogging in 1984, sued the shit out of the insurance company of the homeowner whose tree hit him.

Also -- all those times you heard "Texas is suing Obama over X", it was Abbott who was doing the suing as AG.

I think you'll find it works just fine if you spell it correctly. Of course "vox populi" does not come here first. It antecedes the blog by more than two thousand years.

The name of the blog is "vox popoli". Italian, not Latin.

I love Texas so much.

I've been saying for several months that any "sanctuary city" needed to be declared to be in rebellion against the United States. Without the cover of a bill of secession.

And the suppression of rebellion is a matter for the military first. Any court presuming to interfere would itself be in rebellion...and would meet the same fate.

Remember, the most critical decision in the whole race rights business of the 1950s and 1960s didn't come from a court. It was Eisenhower's use of military force in Little Rock. Once they saw the mailed fist of the United States closed to strike, the Democrats obeyed the law.

Blogger Mr.MantraMan March 31, 2017 9:11 AM

Immigrants will only be safe in sanctuary cities, they must go there (and then go back)

The Left is a woman and a woman always does what feels best NOW.

Better yet, if congress had balls, they could pass a statute forbidding judges to interfere with lawful executive orders which enforce existing immigration law. Not having been taught in civics classes for 40 years, this little known constitutional capability exists for congress if they have the will to use it. They can limit just about anything in federal courts' jurisdictions.

Anonymous Jeigh Di March 31, 2017 9:20 AM

They should also jail the mayors and city councils.

Heck, this isn't a state's rights issue anyway, since it's a governor promising to enforce his state's laws, which I assume these sheriffs took an oath to uphold. Seems open-and-shut.

Blogger seeingsights March 31, 2017 9:37 AM

I'm optimistic though. The judges in Texas lean conservative.
There was an immigration case in Texas where the judges ruled against the Obama administration--I forgot the details. The case made it to the Supreme Court and because SCOTUS split 4-4, the lower court ruling stood.
And it now looks like Trump will get his nominee on the Supreme Court.

Blogger swiftfoxmark2 March 31, 2017 9:59 AM

This is why you don't ever apply ideological standards to the Leftist. The Narrative is intentionally vague and seems designed for the sole purpose of validating mental illnesses of all types.

They were against the war in Iraq. Until Obama was elected. Then they refused to acknowledge the 10th amendment. Now, suddenly, it applies to them again.

Blogger swiftfoxmark2 March 31, 2017 9:59 AM

Also, President Trump should just ignore all court orders from Inferior Courts. Obama did it with Obamacare, so the precedent is there.

I'm usually annoyed at normalizing an idea that somehow new laws or rules are needed. Existing laws on obstruction of justice (or treason) cover the behavior just fine. So does tar and feathering, lynching, or crucifixion for that matter.

But at this point, I'll take this.

Abbott being in a wheelchair would only enhance his prospects in an election. It "humanizes" him in the mush minds of the demos. "Everyone" loves how FDR was in a wheelchair, even though FDR personally hated it and refused to allow himself to be photographed in one.

The reality is Abbott is a lead-pipe swinging madman -- and I mean that in the best possible way.

If something were to be an obstacle for Abbott in a national election it would be his accent. He has an authentic East Texas accent -- think Sen. Gramm, rather than G. W. Bush. Both men used the accent as part of their respective shticks, I don't get that sense from Gov. Abbott. However, many people who hear it immediately conclude that the speaker is an idiot.

Blogger JaimeInTexas March 31, 2017 11:21 AM

I also of the opinion that Abbot requiring a wheelchair for mobility is a plus - some attacks will come across as mean spirited.

swiftfoxmark2 wrote:Also, President Trump should just ignore all court orders from Inferior Courts. Obama did it with Obamacare, so the precedent is there.

Obama did this with any court rulings that sided with him. The Heller decision basically said that cities/states can't prohibit citizens from arming themselves, but DC, Chicago, California, etc. all still do. Like you said, precedent exists!

I think it's actually an asset. Imagine all those tolerant, "loving" "progressives" who are into "non-shaming"...shaming a handicapped dude. Heck, the Democrats *did mock his handicap in the gubernatorial election.

On the national stage, imagine the Deathocrats mocking a handicapped guy for being in a wheelchair. Their true colors will be exposed to even the dimmest of "feelz feelers".

(And I know, most of the Left are liars, frauds, and wannabe Berias...but there are still "liberals" out there to be converted to our side. Sometimes you've gotta beat them upside the head to make them see the truth, but cripple-mocking from the Left would help do just that.)

Blogger DemonicProfessorEl March 31, 2017 11:30 AM

Also of note regarding Governor Abbott - he, along with Rick Snyder of Michigan - were the first two governors to refuse refugees last year. They also made noise about a convention of the states if Hillary won.

I'd say Abbott for '24 is a great pick. He has victory on his mind.

The pussification of the NFL continues. Now, no more jumping over the line of scrimmage to block kicks.
The rule change that really leaves me scratching my head is this one:
Action to conserve time after the two-minute warning of either half would be considered illegal and would result in a penalty now.
It doesn't explain that. Is 'spiking the ball' (to stop the clock) illegal again? What about passing/running to the sideline? Defense only or both O and D? Geez.

The issue is more a political one. Trump simply doesn't have enough support among Republicans to survive an attempt at impeachment if he ignores a court ruling. There are still too many NeverTrumpers in Congress, and people like McCain, Graham, Murkowsky, and Snow are hesitating to override the filibuster to get Gorsuch to the Supreme Court. They would simply love to kick Trump out of office. We need another election cycle to reinforce Trump's standing in Congress before he dares to defy the judicial branch.

That is simply the reality. There are too many in the Republican Party establishment who consider Trump's hostile takeover of the GOP as a tragedy. They are looking for ANY REASON to defy trump, and some, like McCain, are actively campaigning against him behind closed doors.

Anonymous MrNiceguy March 31, 2017 12:13 PM

This. If Obama can send Federal Marshalls to arrest a county clerk for refusing to issue pretend marriage licenses, Trump can send the same Marshalls for the mayors and councilmen of sanctuary cities.

Nah, that play was a gay gimmick. If you're going to allow guys to jump over the line, you should allow opponents to reach up and yank them down. Otherwise, it needed to go away, before every team signed a gay gymnast just to block field goals.

I still don't like the idea of treating this as a law enforcement issue. Do that, and you play Lawyers and Law-courts until you're blue in the face...and the Left controls the courts.

Treat it as rebellion, send in the Marines. Seize the rebels, subject them to court-martial. Verdict GUILTY, sentence DEATH.

Then hang the condemned rebels by their necks. Publicly.

Ya know, the "best" deer I ever shot, was 18 pts, in Laredo Texas. (oh, I've shot some with more points, but they were atypicals. This boy was a monster)

Any way...while I was hunting at this resort, the were constantly a few guys hunting with us, who seemed to know the Owner and employees very well.

These guys wore no uniforms, just some camo. Didn't really speak much, but, when they did, you just know they weren't to be trifled with.

I asked a guide when we were out on a stand, he told me they were LEO. That was all. No further elucidation. He didn't really want to talk about it.

They were supposedly there for "security" purposes.

Laredo is on of the WORST places on earth for illegal immigrants, and drugs coming in to the US.
