US Attorney refuses to resign

This would appear to be a breach of standard protocol. One assumes he has a good reason for doing so:
Preet Bharara, a U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, is refusing the Trump administration's demand to resign, according to multiple reports Saturday.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Friday asked 46 attorneys appointed by former President Obama to submit their resignations, including Bharara.

"HOLDOVER: Bharara is not submitting his resignation, according to several ppl briefed - WH not responding to what they'll do next," the New York Times' Maggie Haberman tweeted Saturday.

CNN's Jake Tapper also reported that Bharara was refusing to resign.
I have no idea what would possess the man to take this stand now. Is he trying to stop an investigation? Is he trying to protect an investigation? There is simply not enough information to have an opinion at this time, especially given all of the darker rumors floating around.

US Attorneys are appointees who serve at the whim of the President.

What happens next is he will be fired, unless the investigation he is trying to protect is #Pizzagate / #Pedogate / #Podestapedesta in which case he might get a minute to make his case (since he was already favored at one time by Trump).

Blogger Markku March 11, 2017 1:36 PM

I think he just wants to be difficult, for the symbolic value. He's challenging them to fire him.

Blogger Elocutioner March 11, 2017 1:36 PM

I didn't see a quote from anyone directly involved. I'm assuming at this point it's just more #fakenews reporting that the Trump administration is in turmoil.

The "request" for a resignation is a professional courtesy. There is no requirement that the employee resign for them to be removed.

Preet's past successes against high-value targets indicate he's not a gamma, unless you use the 'gamma when considered inside a subset of alphas' idea like Ted Cruz.

I'm more unnerved that Trump's Asst. AG is Rod Rosenstein - a US attorney appointed by Bush who became the only one to be reappointed by Obama and last all 8 Obama years, and is now getting a Trump promotion.

Not sure about him yet.

Blogger Lance E March 11, 2017 1:47 PM

I found this baffling too, and wondered when the commentators would weigh in on it. Obviously he can't force the administration to let him stay, and he knows that. So...

Possibility 1: Preet is looking to damage Trump and/or Sessions on his way out by piling media attention onto what is normally standard procedure for incoming AGs.

Possibility 2: Preet considers himself one of the good guys (no comment from me on whether or not he really is) and isn't willing to be lumped in with Obama's political appointees.

Possibility 3: Trump/Sessions never intended to dump Preet, and it's all just kayfabe, much like the Trump/Arnold saga, for reasons that most of us can barely begin to comprehend. (Maybe they want to make it harder for a future president-elect to fire whomever Trump appoints?)

Did I miss any alternatives?

Anonymous Darth Dharmakīrti March 11, 2017 1:53 PM

Conspiracy theory/rampant speculation:

Bharara is known to be at least reasonably friendly to Trump. He is a vicious attacking prosecutor, and in all likelihood putting together the #Pedogate prosecution team. Trump could very easily have asked him (alone out of all the Obama leftovers) to stay onboard. All of the Fake News reporting on this issue so far has been through anonymous "sources," and we all know how reliable those have been.

So: what if the plan is indeed to keep Bharara working on #Pedogate, but some incriminated "sources" liable to be hit by the prosecution lied to the NYT about it? Now, rather than the story being that Bharara (who has not said anything about this so far) is the only Obama-appointed US Attorney to remain under Trump, the story is that Bharara is trying to stick it to Trump. If Trump keeps Bharara on, even if he planned on doing so all along, he looks weak (which he hates maybe more than anything). But if Trump gets rid of Bharara, he loses the lynchpin of his #Pedogate team. No one is irreplaceable, but that would be a major blow. Either way, the pedophiles get a temporary victory.

As I said, that's all rampant speculation, but at this point, given everything I know, it seems the likeliest scenario.

Schumer, Democrat of New York, and played a major role in the Senate Judiciary Committee's investigation into the politically motivated firings of United States attorneys by the Justice Department under President George W. Blogger RM Chris March 11, 2017 1:55 PM

Wouldn't be surprised if there is something to that.

If he is "fired", he can more effectively claim victim hood.

Saw it after the election too. People with shitlib Facebook friends who wouldn't unfrieind Trump supporters, but kept demanding that the Trump supporters be the ones to unfriend them. That way, they could keep trying to claim the moral high ground.

"Never underestimate the gamma tendency to lit your career on fire if by any chance, no matter how remote, it annoys the alpha even for a second."

A collaborator on a project of mine just nuked the opportunity of another $3,000 to complete a work (four more vocal parts), thereby continuing to hold his drum and vocal parts for ransom, so he could tell me exactly what he thinks of me, and how he, not me, is the wronged and abused party, because he's that committed to his victimhood.

Luckily, since I could rely on him going on nuclear to prove that he, the contracted worker-for-hire, and not I, the guy who wrote all played most of the instruments on the songs, was the King, I had the appearance of being fair and reasonable to all observers, and have since sent him a notice of termination, saying his parts-for-hire will not be used.

He didn't know I'd been quietly-signed based upon our work functioning as 'demos', and that I had secured $50,000 worth of funding to start again, retaining all my parts, having already gotten commitments of interest from a new Singer, Bassist, Producer and Drummer, with the backing singer and the string performers already eagerly-agreeing to redo their parts from scratch if it means The Gamma is gone for good, because working very hard is easier than working with a Gamma, no matter how strong their appearance of talent and functionality can seem to initial glances.

I believe they really are as far left as you can go on the female / male spectrum of sexuality before you become Homosexual, but I'd actually place Bulldykes as further towards the male side than a Gamma.

He's annoyed enough about getting turned out that he wants to make a stink about it.

Seems like that may have been it. Apparently he asked for clarification as to whether or not the requests for resignation applied to him as well because Trump specifically asked him to stay. For what it's worth, I'm to understand the Acting Deputy Attorney General Boente tendered his resignation as US Attorney for Alexandria, VA, and US Attorney Rosenstein for MD tendered his resignation as well, and that President Trump declined their resignations, keeping them in place.

Bharara might have been fired because he didn't trust President Trump's word he said he wanted to keep him on, and didn't want to tender his resignation when asked. The President has shown that he fires people for gross incompetence or disloyalty - I'm guessing that Bharara displayed an unacceptable disloyalty to the President by refusing to offer his resignation when asked, when he should've known that it would've been declined like Rosenstein's or Doente's.

Bharara setup a personal Twitter on March 3rd, so he clearly knew something was coming. Granted, he probably was already planning to run for NY Office, so Trump has just helped him kick start his campaign.

This is an Alinsky move that likely comes directly from Obama.

The left's tactic so far has been to blow everyday machinations of the power transition out of proportion to prop up their "Trump is literally hitler" rhetoric.

You can tell this is Obama-driven because, like the rest of his tactics which failed to gain wider public favor, this is an appeal to the hypnotized "true believers" who don't need to be further persuaded.

We're continuing our march toward a 2018 republican supermajority, so long as Trump reigns in his cabinet and stops their constant cucking to left-wing agitators (like Sessions' recusal)

I am surprised -- you guys are usually much smarter here. I will lay it out for you.

1. Originally Trump had asked Preet Bharara to stay on because he has a long record of going after anyone that broke the law -- back in Nov he was asked to stay by both Trump and Sessions. Preet is know as a man with incredible intelligence and is incorruptible and a long record of going after wall street insiders which Trump really liked (he has spoken highly of Preet on multiple occasions - there's a solid record there)

2. As the US Attorney for the Southern District -- if there was a case against Trump pre election activities, it runs thru the Southern District because campaign headquarters is Trump Towers.

4. In fact, if the warrant for wiretap of Trump Tower is for a criminal activity and not espionage, a strong possibility would be through Southern District NY office. It could be compartmentalized so that even the DOJ and FBI didn't know about it -- Preet would do that because the Attorney General Sessions was part of the campaign and there was already information that Sessions may be a collaborator (unwittingly in my opinion because I believe Sessions to be a good man). This explains why DOJ and NSA dont know about and wire tapping .. because its not FISA court, its a criminal court order.

5. With the information now coming out on Flynn being a paid agent of a foriegn country, him not registering as a foriegn agent and working for the campaign and then the administration is a federal crime. Flynns attorney have already let it slip that the administration was told about his work for Turkey and they didn't do anything about it.

6. When it hits the fan, the US Attorney of the Southern District will be one of the few people that can stop it from spreading to Trump -- that cant be Preet because he is too honest (the mans a boy scout)-- they will need a person there completely loyal to Trump.

7. Preet forced a firing because he is really smart -- its very similar to what happened to Elliot Richardson et al during that faithful Saturday Night -- that eventually was the turning point for Nixon. You can rest assures that Preet has all the investigation data saved and he will be seeking other ways of moving the investigation forward.

Its very clear when you think about it..

Sikh or Muslim? Looks like the same fucking thing to me.

I thought Bharara was one of the good guys. If so, I hope this is 4D Chess to get the leftists to come out in heavy support of him, and then rehire him to let him finish going after Weiner and #Pedogate.

On the one hand, they're the opposite because Hindus created Sikh to protect them from violent rapey Muslims. (Too ineffective actually.)

On the other hand, literally everyone hates Native European Christians. We're everybody's scapegoat, so eff them all.

Damn them all to Hell. I don't care how many thousands of Hindu women the Pakistanis raped, the Sikhs don't have my back and so I don't have theirs. Not my tribe.

Ok, you're fired!

Only 9 days left until we can get hold of The Corroding Empire and read it ...

So I suspect this is what went down:

Trump always intended to get rid of Bharara, but gave him indications that he'd be kept on so as to limit the amount of trouble he would cause

Then asked for his resignation, Bharara refused in the hope of bluffing Trump to back down with the threat of public shaming. "Oh you dont want to seem unreasonable and a bad person to everyone else do you?"

Trump didnt care, or bother to engage with Bharara on any level, instead paised for a moment to assess the situation (you dont want to be reactive and fall for a trick), then swiftly fired him

According to this guy, Trump wants Bharara to take down de Blasio.

Lawyers like to play games, and have a tendency to eat their own young, like a damn guppy.
Trump knows this, and Trump ain't about to play this.
Case closed on the "that cow is my uncle " hindoo.

Personally, I don't think they can stand his silence!

They have to have bait.

Best to you and yours, Mosby.

Trump wanted to demonstrate his willingness to work with Obama holdovers, and I believe he was genuinely willing to work with them if they would reciprocate. He gave them a chance, and they blew it.

Now they're fired.

Blogger Fred March 12, 2017 6:29 AM

Not sure why Trump wasted his time with Obama appointees. They should have been fired, racked and waterboarded day 1.

Like I said before, not a good idea to trust someone named "Preet" to have your back, immigrants from the Indian sub-continent are, in the end, low trust clannish foreigners who view white Americans with disdain and vote their ethnic interests. Wanting to believe that "Preet", appointed by "Obama", and working for "Schumer"(!), is one of the good ones is a little cucky.

Anyone remember how fiercely that loyal Southerner "Nikki" Nimrata Randhawa Haley fought for her fellow South Carolinians?

I believe VD has been telling us for some time - welcome to the new reality of all ethnic politics, all the time. Sucks but true.

What I think is extremely important is getting rid of as many un-needed government workers as possible and or dramatically reducing their salaries, because the debt and the deficits are still way too high for the nation to be financially comfortable and healthy, and govt workers should willingly resign and or take bigger pay cuts and cooperate and care about the country more than themselves, debt and deficits are bad and they are caused by high salaries paid to govt workers

I think he refused to resign because he had met with trump and sessions inn Nov about staying on as US attorney:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/mobile.nytimes.com/2016/11/30/nyregion/preet-bharara-says-he-will-stay-on-as-us-attorney-under-trump.amp.html

Preet Bharara, the United States attorney in Manhattan who has built a reputation as a fierce prosecutor of public corruption cases, said on Wednesday that he intended to remain in office under President-elect Donald J. Trump’s administration.

Mr. Bharara, who was appointed to the position in 2009 by President Obama, made the announcement after meeting with the president-elect at Trump Tower.

Mr. Bharara, 48, speaking to reporters after the meeting, said Mr. Trump had asked to see him to discuss “whether or not I’d be prepared to stay on as the United States attorney to do the work as we have done it, independently, without fear or favor for the last seven years.”

“We had a good meeting,” Mr. Bharara continued. “I said I would absolutely consider staying on. I agreed to stay on.”

Mr. Bharara said that he had already talked to Senator Jeff Sessions, Republican of Alabama, who is Mr. Trump’s choice for attorney general. “He also asked that I stay on, and so I expect that I will be continuing,” Mr. Bharara said.

re 9:26, let me state that better,... there needs to be a greater sense of cost when creating and justifying government positions, it cant just be constant expansion

He's so autistic that he can't even comprehend organizational delegation and the changing of minds? That would me look neurotypical by comparison, and I don't believe it.

Can these liars keep a consistent message: https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/03/12/us/politics/trump-administration.html?referer=http://www.drudgereport.com/

Is Trump doing an unprecedented expediting by having 46 appiintees resign when supposedly everyone else transitions after a year or two -- or is he not firing Obama people fast enough?

Make up your damn minds.
