Christ is risen

Early on Sunday morning, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. She ran and found Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved. She said, “They have taken the Lord’s body out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!”

Peter and the other disciple started out for the tomb. They were both running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first.  He stooped and looked in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he didn’t go in. Then Simon Peter arrived and went inside. He also noticed the linen wrappings lying there, while the cloth that had covered Jesus’ head was folded up and lying apart from the other wrappings. Then the disciple who had reached the tomb first also went in, and he saw and believed— for until then they still hadn’t understood the Scriptures that said Jesus must rise from the dead. Then they went home.

When Isaias foresaw all this, he cried out: "O Hades, you have been angered by encountering Him in the nether world." Hades is angered because frustrated, it is angered because it has been mocked, it is angered because it has been destroyed, it is angered because it has been reduced to naught, it is angered because it is now captive. It seized a body, and, lo! it encountered heaven; it seized the visible, and was overcome by the invisible.

O death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory? Christ is risen and you are abolished. Christ is risen and the demons are cast down. Christ is risen and the angels rejoice. Christ is risen and life is freed. Christ is risen and the tomb is emptied of the dead: for Christ, being risen from the dead, has become the Leader and Reviver of those who had fallen asleep. To Him be glory and power for ever and ever. Amen. (John Chrysostom, Easter homily).

Happy Easter to the ilk, to the minion and to the lurker alike. May Christ reign in your hearts and in your lives...for today death dies.

20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.
21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.
22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.
24 Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.
25 For he must reign, till he hath put* all enemies under his feet.
26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

Happy Easter Vox, all Dread Ilk, Ilk, and their families. I went to Vigil Mass last night: we welcomed seven people into full Communion with the Church. The priest, a monsignor, had a great homily: God's response to Good Friday was an empty tomb. However, that is not proof of the Resurrection. He gave proof which escapes me at the moment. The homily will eventually be uploaded here. He indicated that the rolled up burial shroud mentioned in the Gospel of John goes back to Jewish dining customs. If the master was finished eating, he would wad his napkin and throw it on his plate. If he was coming back, he would roll it up neatly. The priest went on to say how evil always comes up empty handed and mentioned the Islamic State and Al Qaeda by name.

Left unmentioned in Scripture is what happened to the body. What did happen??? The wraps were left behind. Very curious, indeed. The Jews who were very fastidious with the remains of the dead would not have unwrapped the body if it was stolen. In fact, no thief of any ethnicity would have unwrapped the corpse before absconding with the remains.

This is our celebration of the climax of the passion of Jesus Christ. Only his strength, only his power totally unleashed, could conquer the grave and bring unquenchable life to the overwhelming sin and despair of humanity. He has done it. No difficulty of life, no misfortune, no physical pain can ever take away the finality of his victory. Let today be a celebration, casting off discouragements of every kind as we dwell on the hope we have in Christ: We will live with him and enjoy his love forever.

@65 This is actually one reason why we know it occurred. Historians refer to this as the "Criteria of Embarrassment." It was highly embarrassing for a key fact to have been witnessed by a woman in ancient Judea (or really ancient anywhere). Because it was highly embarrassing to them, and they preserved and faithfully reported it regardless, we can conclude that it is not the kind of thing that one would have made up. Therefore, it happened.

The Anvil of God's Word

Last eve I paused beside the blacksmith’s door,
And heard the anvil ring the vesper chime;
Then looking in, I saw upon the floor,
Old hammers, worn with beating years of time.

“‘How many anvils have you had,’ said I,
‘To wear and batter all these hammers so?’
‘Just one,’ said he, and then with twinkling eye,
‘The anvil wears the hammers out, you know.’

“And so, I thought, the Anvil of God’s Word
For ages skeptic blows have beat upon;
Yet, though the noise of falling blows was heard,
The Anvil is unharmed, the hammers gone

Behold the risen Christ! Come from all eternity to expunge the blackest crime. Man of sorrows acquainted with grief. He who bore our sins away. Slaughtered. Desolate. Now victorious. Redeemer. It was impossible for death to hold captive the Author of Life. His death took our death. His life brings life. He lives, we live. Behold the risen Christ!

Amidst the celebration of the redeemed here today I wonder if there is one reading who still standing apart is ready to join us? You understand the proposition Christ has come to save sinners. You concede readily in your mind you too are guilty. Yet, you've never actually addressed the matter. You remain as we all did, in peril of judgment until we turned imploring to Christ to forgive and receive us unto himself. That is the source of our celebration here today. The resurrection of our Lord Jesus frees us, forgives us, adopts us into his family, grants us eternal liberty and life. Behold the risen Christ!

Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, risen! Because Jesus lives, he is able to save. Call out for salvation, "Lord Jesus, receive me too, a sinner." Join the everlasting song!

For all the claims of the German School of Biblical criticism that state that St. John could not have written the Gospel that bears his name, I find some of the best evidence in the passage VD quoted. St. John is such a normal dude here - he describes Peter and himself running, but John was just a _little bit_ faster than his friend Peter... That's just such a guy thing to claim. It's just not the sort of thing that another author would include.

Divine serendipitous coincidence had me listen to the latest Red Ice episode on resurrection Sunday. This is a truly important episode which touches the depth of Christ consciousness, distinct from Abrahamism, and the satanic evil of Marxism and you can therefore extrapolate the inevitable Churchian take over. My favourite quote "Islam is Abrahamism on steroids."

Please listen to this episode, and the second if you are a member. If not, then perhaps become one even if just for the month to listen to this second hour.
The little known subject of Spiritual Jurisprudence, though not named, is touched upon.
For this shall be the salvation of our people.

Here in Australia there are some dozens of us who have spent many years clarifying the Bible as a book of law, and working back through natural law to true divine law. Children of God automatically want to do godly things such as raise family, and the parasite servants of satan are meticulously perverting us to be farmed as their beast of burden.

The key to unification of Christianity and Folk spirituality is here.

Praise upon Jesus. Salvation is ours for the choosing.

A friend sends:

The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour is dedicated to Alexander Nevsky and Dmitri Donskoi, 2 of Russia's great national heroes both of whom have been canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church Their canonization is another example of the good fortune of Russians to have a national church that is truly the Church of Russia and protects its own as opposed to what we English-speaking peoples have in the Church of Anti-England and the Church of Anti-Scotland. (Oh, to have a loyal Church of England that would canonize Sir Francis Drake who delivered England from the Spaniards and a Church of Scotland that would canonize 2 of its members - Andrew Jackson and James Polk - who expanded our people's turf!)

The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour was totally destroyed by the Bolsheviks. They would not permit anyone to take away the icons. It was leveled to the ground. 20 tons of gold were removed and were specifically earmarked to fund the "dekulakization" program that, once the aristocracy and bourgeoisie had been exterminated, targeted the intelligent peasants for extermination to carry the dysgenics program of the Soviets to the next logical step. Thus, the destruction of the Cathedral and the money extracted served as double blows to the true Russian people.

When the Soviet government collapsed, The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour was the FIRST church in Russia to be rebuilt. 1 million citizens of Moscow made donations to the hugely expensive projects that was also funded in part by the descendants of the White Russians who managed to escape at the end of the Russian Civil War (or "The War of Alien Conquest" as my Russian tutor called it).

Moscow has a population of 10 million. When the Cathedral was rebuilt, conditions in Russia were so grim that the country was on the verge of starvation. Yet even in their ruined, appalling state 1 out of 10 Muscovites in all their sufferings and poverty gave money to rebuild the Cathedral.

I was fortunate to visit the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour with a true Russian Dmitri O. who acted as my guide. It was a very moving experience bringing back the memories of my Russian tutor's account of the destruction of its destruction at the hands of the Bolsheviks and how God destroyed all of the Communists' plans to erect a temple to Marxism with a giant statue of the God of the Godless (Lenin) crowning it. The Communists tried... but every time the building fell down.

How I wish the White Russians I knew in my youth in Atlanta could have lived to have seen the day when the Head of State in Russia would attend Easter ceremonies in this shrine!

Happy Easter! We can rejoice that Lenin's work like his projected shrine and statue are gone.

p.s. Dmitri Donskoy is not only perhaps the greatest hero of Russia. He is also one of the greatest heroes of European Christendom. He defeated the Mongols on September 8, 1308, in the Battle of Kulikovo Field and delivered Russia from the cruel Mongol Yoke. (80% of all the Russian soldiers fighting in that battle were dead when night came and the Mongols fled. They were dead but the Asiatic enemy was defeated and the Christian Slavs were free.

I was thinking about this all day yesterday and woke up this morning still thinking about it. It occurs to me that there is an intersection between Kurt Gödel's proven Modal Ontological Proof, Pascal's Wager and "Man or Rabbit" by C.S. Lewis that I've never seen explicitly drawn. As much as I hate writing, I think this is something I may have to start working on for my progeny's sake. I can't think of a valid refutation, off hand, of that intersection.

The Sunday hymns of the Orthodox Church frequently ponder on that very subject:

"The guards were instructed by the law-transgressors, 'Hide the resurrection of Christ; take money and say, "The body was stolen from the tomb while we were asleep."' But who has ever heard of a body being stolen, especially one embalmed and naked, with its grave-clothes left behind in the tomb? O Jews, do not be deceived; study the words of the prophets and understand: Christ is the Redeemer of the world and all-powerful!" (Hymn at Vespers, Sundays of Mode 5)
