Susan Rice reported to be responsible

Mike Cernovich reports on the identity of the Obama Administration official who was responsible for identifying the incoming Trump officials who were being inadvertently spied upon:
Susan Rice, who served as the National Security Adviser under President Obama, has been identified as the official who requested unmasking of incoming Trump officials, Cernovich Media can exclusively report.

The White House Counsel’s office identified Rice as the person responsible for the unmasking after examining Rice’s document log requests. The reports Rice requested to see are kept under tightly-controlled conditions. Each person must log her name before being granted access to them.

Upon learning of Rice’s actions, H. R. McMaster dispatched his close aide Derek Harvey to Capitol Hill to brief Chairman Nunes.

“Unmasking” is the process of identifying individuals whose communications were caught in the dragnet of intelligence gathering. While conducting investigations into terrorism and other related crimes, intelligence analysts incidentally capture conversations about parties not subject to the search warrant. The identities of individuals who are not under investigation are kept confidential, for legal and moral reasons.
That's a pretty big scoop by Cerno. Impressive. Especially if it leads back to Obama, as one would tend to assume will eventually prove to be the case. Rice is hardly an individual inclined to go rogue.

Zerohedge has more on the unmasking.
And guess who had authorization to unmask individuals who were 'incidentally' surveilled? Former CIA Director John Brennan, former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, and Obama's National Security advisor Susan Rice. Also of note is the claim that New York Times journalist Maggie Haberman has been sitting on the Susan Rice story for at least two days:

Journalism has never, never been about objectivity. Prof. Paul A. Rahe names Marchamont Needham the Father of journalism.

He was a scoundrel and a reprobate. Said anything, did anything, switched sides numerous times. The Father is what gives the character to his progeny and Marchamont Needham's character shows what journalism is all about.

All the newspapers in America have always been the operation of partisan parties. There is no such thing as an objective newspaper. Because at its essence, journalism has the power because it has the platform. It is about control and influence.

Democracy lives on demagoguery. It is demagoguery that is the essence of democracy. It was demagoguery of Ephialtes in Athens that gave democracy its birth. The modern form of demagoguery is journalism. Journalism is nothing more than demagoguery. Always has and always will. There is no ethics in journalism. There never will be. And that they teach "ethics in journalism" is a joke. You can't clean up a sewer and journalism is a sewer.

Anonymous Avalanche April 03, 2017 7:55 AM

Is "unmasking" supposed to mean un-redacting the names of the surveilled in documents or is it intended to mentally "push" the implied action OFF the spies and onto the spied-upon? Seems an AWFUL lot like someone's 'talking point" because who EVER uses the word 'unmasked' in normal or political language?!

This is where the problem is at. Rice went out and spread misinformation about Benghazi and it netted her a promotion. Of course she is going to do another favor for Zero when he calls. There is no down side and potential huge upside for her.

I thought the dust-up over Tillerson using an alternate email address while Exxon CEO was laughable. All of Obama's direct reports, and Obama himself used multiple alternate email addresses to avoid FOIA and the media never batted an eye.

Rush espouses the theory that people in all these departments just knew what to do because they were SJWs. I think that is partially true but based on the number of fake email accounts being used by Obama's lieutenants I think specific instructions were given out on some of these scandals.

Trump needs to nail these people to the wall now. If not, the next time Democrats gain power they will be even more blatant about their law breaking.

Blogger Cail Corishev April 03, 2017 9:13 AM

I don't know if I can stand this much poetic justice. Their whole "Trump is a Russian mole" narrative grew out of their spying, because of the way they hinted to their media and NeverTrump allies that they were getting the goods on Trump. Like the story they planted in Salon for Hillary to tweet, that said "computer experts" knew things about Trump's communications with the Russians that couldn't have been known without inside access. I said that was fishy at the time, but I thought it was just a typical lying hit piece. Now I see what they were doing: hinting to their allies, "We can't say how we're getting the goods, but trust us, we have ways."

They must have assumed they would find something big (email from Trump to Putin promises to sell back Alaska at cost!) that would justify their crimes in the eyes of the people, or that they could keep it secret. But they did too much bragging and hinting about it, and now they got nothing and people are asking about it anyway. It's beautiful.

Anonymous Joe Blowe April 03, 2017 9:18 AM

It was Susan Rice and Valerie Jarret, along with Hillary to a great extent, that were were actually running the Obama Regime while Barry was playing golf and smoking pole. The destruction of Libya and the subsequent Benghazi fiasco is a great example of their paramount control over US foreign policy. Barry might have signed off on the unmasking of Flynn. He might have had no idea it was happening. He wasn't calling any of the shots let alone coming up with any of these nefarious plots. Barry may be completely innocent.

Blogger Ron Winkleheimer April 03, 2017 9:20 AM

The MSM won't be able to simply ignore the scandal, so instead it will be about this being a witch hunt to punish political opponents and Trump is turning the USA into a banana republic, which the dumb Dem voters will lap up, because if your dumb enough to by the "Russian Hacking" stuff then you are dumb enough to buy anything. Also, they won't see anything "wrong" with anything done to stop Trump. After all, he is obstructing their agenda, and therefore anything done to defeat him is by definition moral and of the good.

It will pretty much be like when people were talking about putting Hillary in prison because she broke multiple laws relating to safeguarding classified material. The press made it out to be about just wanting to lock her up for no reason other than political opposition.

So, near term, MSM minimizes and downplays story, mid-term it behaves as I said above, if that is, someone is actually indicted. Long term depends on how near and mid-term plays out.

That is a large part of the danger the left faces. They have actually managed to generate an organic desire for a true “strong man” leader. That won’t be trump, that leader will come after trump and the blocking of trump by the left and the cuckservatives will only increase the demand for a true strong man who will crush any who stand against him. When the left have finally push people far enough the true “strong man” will easily take office and promptly fire up the helicopters.

Blogger dc.sunsets April 03, 2017 10:04 AM

@40 Grayman, exactly. The Left thinks they're just greasing the wheels that lead to them returning to power so they can resume robbing the "can-do's," pocketing most of the swag and buying off the rabble (can't-do's) with trinkets.

When this insanely long-in-the-tooth credit/asset mania finally ends and the illusions all fall from the herd-members' eyes, all signs point to (first) social unrest and (as a consequence) a rightist authoritarian dictatorship.

I'm half-heartedly watching the competence of the people Trump places in the Joint Chiefs. If enough of the politikrats are replaced by hard-chargers, I can imagine a future Congress actually begging a career Marine or Staff Officer to take the reins.

Just as people mistakenly believe central planning can "cure" the problems of cronyism & generations of regulatory rent-seeking (e.g., calls for Single Payer in medical services), when politics prove unable to manage the problems of politics, even politicians will abdicate in favor of political centralization.

Neither is a solution, but human history isn't a record of sequential, planned solutions to problems.

Anonymous Napoleon 12pdr April 03, 2017 10:12 AM

It's looking more and more like Obama left a bunch of his minions as stay-behind saboteurs. Which is why Trump needs to move fast, but stealthily. There's not much point in tossing a couple of low-level operatives in jail. The goal is to send Obama and his masters to a Federal prison for a good, long time.

Then follow up with a professionalization of the Civil Service. Go back to the Hatch Act (which restricted activities) at full strength.

Blogger dc.sunsets April 03, 2017 10:17 AM

@43 Grayman,

I could be easily proved wrong, but I think political mass murder is the province of the World-Improving Left. Pinochet's helicopter solution is simply not up to the task of culling the sheer numbers of those who need to go, anyway.

My hypothesis is that Leftism and Rightism are a bit like the asset markets. Assets (and politics) spend a lot more time in bull markets (Utopian leftism) because humans spend more time in a rising, optimistic social mood than in a falling, negative social mood.

Bear markets (Rightist political periods) are shorter, but also more sudden in effect (faster-moving, with a greater slope.) This means I expect full-out Rightist politics to occur during total SHTF conditions, conditions I think will do a marvelous job of culling the useless, chronically-inept and those who embraced the game of seeking to be more handicapped and more "diversitied."

Under significant hardship, I think Nature will cull the useless and volitionally handicapped without any significant assistance from politics.

Anonymous Grayman April 03, 2017 10:19 AM

@45 DC

My guess is that the breakup of the US into multiple nations/regions occurs under the strong man. The strong man would have to use the military within US boarders to completely subdue hard core leftist, and the use of the military within the US probably triggers both sides of the spectrum to shatter at that point.
The military deployed within the US for political use is the sign post I would expect to see as the herald for the ugly part of the coming phase change.

On a related note, based on the recent debt analysis we aren't getting past 2025 without a bond market implosion and everything that implies. It looks like we have 3 to 8 years before phase change really kicks off.

@60 Ron,

If you read between the lines, it appears that trump is working to a build an alliance with the NSA to counter the CIA. From my perspective it looks like he may be looking to hang major players of the CIA out to dry and Obama's team by association. He needs the NSA to cover his back so has to play nice with them, so the CIA doesn't back stab him, literally or figuratively.

The recent wiki leaks stuff is a big fat juicy gift for trump as it it an easily understandable bullet point for the general public to understand.... The CIA is using tools to make their hacks look like the Russians and everyone else. Suddenly every hacking claim is assumed to be the CIA, guilt by association.

The key is it needs to an easy soundbite that the average joe can understand and this recent wiki leak fits the bill... time will tell.

Blogger Stilicho April 03, 2017 11:13 AM

Hmmm, Susan Rice... does that mean an Internet video that no one saw is responsible for the leaks?

Blogger Ron Winkleheimer April 03, 2017 11:17 AM

Trump isn't alt-right, he is a liberal NYC business man. He supported gay marriage 20 years before Obama and Hillary said they did.

I support Trump. I voted for Trump. But I think we need to be honest about what we can expect from him.

Enforce the immigration laws, reform the tax code, improve the business climate, bring jobs back the the US, keep us out of useless foreign adventures. If he manages any two of those things, I will be happy.

I don't think he is going to want his agenda marred by massive rioting unless there is something in it for him that he needs. On the other hand, I don't see him being unwilling to threaten the guilty with jail time (or at least prosecution) if they don't stop trying to screw him over.

Blogger Josh (the gayest thing here) April 03, 2017 11:17 AM

I always assume so. The NSA really doesn't have to hack that much. Their getting all the data delivered to them by the ISPs'. Their problems are cryptography and doing useful things with all the data they have.

I'm actually rather surprised that the US is able to listen in to the Russian Ambassador's phone calls. Apparently VPN is not secure against the US government. I remember back in the day when PGP was a thing there was speculation that the NSA had cracked it. How would you know?

Experienced-based conclusion. DCS1000/Carnivore implemented Oct. 1997 was itself based on earlier Omnivore and that was itself based on earlier U.S. Navy data intercept communication warfare weapon.

Also add in DCSNet and Echelon. And the fact that we tapped the transatlantic telecom pipe.

And add in NSA's Utah yottabyte warehouse.

Rest assured, electronic data is intercepted, stored and decoded. To assume otherwise is silly.

Anonymous Grayman April 03, 2017 11:52 AM

Given just the known degree of intercept the NSA/CIA/etc have you have to assume they are capable of Man-In-The-Middle attacks on virtually any communication occurring in the west.
With a Man-In-The-Middle attack, encryption is worthless, they don't have to decode anything as the encryption keys were passed through their hands.
I'd still assume that it is non-trivial for them to actually decrypt strongly encrypted information that was NOT transmitted digitally, such as an encyrpted file on a flash drive transferred by hand to the receiving party.
A one time pad could still be effective on a compromised line but has limited uses.

Left is blown the fuck out again.

Kek if Susan Rice goes to jail over a Youtube (well, Periscope) video.

Topkek if it was just because to shine on 60 Minutes.

Something is missing here. Isn't a warrant required to unmask / unredact the names of Americans caught in the surveillance?

Warrant? We don't got to show you no stinking warrant!

Scott Pelley's head just exploded.

Anonymous Clueless Cuckservative April 03, 2017 12:52 PM

Wow! So Russian hackers actually forged Susan Rice's name on that log? It's worse than I thought!

I propose the east coast be conquered first while small teams shutdown infrastructure int he west to keep them occupied, then focus all resources on retaking the west coast.

Team Obama apparently failed to read the fine print on that Can-o-Whoop-Ass they prepped for Team Trump: "Front Toward Enemy."

Anonymous Just another commenter April 03, 2017 1:04 PM

The New York Times is the "paper of record."

As in, most of the government officials they should write about but don't should have criminal records, and most of the staff writers and "reporters" should have them as well (treason, obstruction, harassment, and more misplaced ideals than the average middle-schooler has misplaced commas).

60 Minutes is part of the legacy media, and Cerno just showed why.

Anonymous Cleveland Screamer April 03, 2017 1:09 PM

Per Cerno twitter:
"Mike Cernovich will be holding a press conference to discuss his #SusanRice exclusive, and also to gloat."

loFl

Anonymous fop April 03, 2017 1:11 PM

I wonder if 60 minutes will interview Cernovich for their hard-hitting, take-no-prisoners investigative report on the Obama scandal.

Hahahahahah!!!

@85 Cleveland

Notice how he is directing folks to his youtube channel. The dude is a brilliant marketer.

Anonymous Silly but True April 03, 2017 2:17 PM

Another reminder: Cernovich can do what Cernovich can do because Cernovich is Cernovich.

"Cernovich is a fool because..." "Cernovich should never have..."

Yes. You would be a fool to whatever. Yes. You never should have. No. You are not Cernovich.

Wow. This is a blow against the Deep State. What an incredible time to be alive!

Blogger Cataline Sergius April 03, 2017 2:20 PM

Cerno may have hit paydirt.

This one is heating up.

I'm sure our drones can reach Tahiti. :)

Only if you care about following the law. When has Obama or his administration cared about that?

> This whole "Russia, Russia, Russia" thing is going to blow up in the Dems' faces.

From Bloomberg: https://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2017-04-03/top-obama-adviser-sought-names-of-trump-associates-in-intel

"The intelligence reports were summaries of monitored conversations -- primarily between foreign officials discussing the Trump transition, but also in some cases direct contact between members of the Trump team and monitored foreign officials. One U.S. official familiar with the reports said they contained valuable political information on the Trump transition such as whom the Trump team was meeting, the views of Trump associates on foreign policy matters and plans for the incoming administration."

Looks like Obama and the "resistance" were fishing for information from which to sabotage the Trump admin after he took office. Anyone who thinks this info collection was "incidental" has not been paying attention.

Found this today. Don't know much about this, but it looks to be huge (unless I am being trolled).
