"We're not going into Syria"

The God-Emperor spells it out:
Amid complaints that his aides are saying different things about Syria and his policy is confusing, President Trump emphatically cleared the air. “We’re not going into Syria,” he told me yesterday in an exclusive interview. “Our policy is the same — it hasn’t changed. We’re not going into Syria.”

He was especially upset that Syria had used chemical weapons after supposedly destroying all its stockpiles under a deal President Obama signed in 2013 and repeatedly boasted about. I asked whether that fact gave him more pause about Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran.

“I don’t need more pause about Iran,” Trump said. “It was the single worst deal ever. It’s a disgrace that a deal like that was even signed. It made Iran a power from a country that was ready to fall apart.”

He wasn’t finished. “Iran won’t honor its deal. Instead of saying, ‘Thank you very much for saving our country,’ they’ve been emboldened.”

Noting those problems and North Korea’s threatening aggression, Trump said, “I knew I was left a mess, but it’s worse than I thought.”
We'll see whether he stands by that statement. But regardless, it's clear that he hasn't been entirely captured or convinced by the neocons, or he wouldn't come out publicly and say that.

I don't really like them using the "barrel bomb" crap.

That seems to be sort of a diversion.

A bomb is a bomb. Is a "barrel bomb" a euphemism for an IED dropped from the air?

What dropped it/them?

I was looking at the supposed satellite assessments after spending 59 Tomahawk missiles on the Syrian airfield.

As far as I could tell, they didn't hit shit.

I saw the damage made to Iraqi bunkers...I didn't see that. No planes/copters destroyed.

Look, I know that right wing guys are used to being betrayed by our leaders - but Trump has proven quite often that he is deserving of more faith than your average Ted Cruz/John McCuck pieces of shit.

HAVE FAITH, BROTHERS. Is it possible that the God-Emperor will falter? It is. But do not despair of it until it happens. Stop trying to read tea leaves and predict his failure - the media tried that for a year and a half and it cost them dearly.

When I heard about the Syria strike, I was a bit pensive but after consideration I figured it was more likely to be a stratagem more than a real change in outlook. Then I read the comments here and wow, so many people panicking and readying the "I Told You So" and assuming the worst.

If you want to be useful in this war, you will need faith and to put some steel in your spine. Stand with the God-Emperor and stop worrying about every little thing like jealous housewife. This is especially important because we know our enemies often use demoralization tactics against us, like they did during the election.

If I were you Americans I wouldn't give up on Trump. No leader is perfect and never makes mistakes. To believe that would be unrealistic. Take Churchill for example. His Dardanelles campaign in WW1 was a total shit show, many allied servicemen killed. But he learned from it, and in WW2 refined his command Structure and delegated when he couldn't do something. No one was complaining when he was saving their arses in WW2. All Trump has done so far is fire some missiles off at what looks like a fairly unimportant airbase. Yes Russia is making some noises, they always do. Remember when Turkey shot down a Russian jet, killing the crew? Russia talked war then. Three weeks later they were best friends, handshakes all round. And think, who else will build a wall for you, or send back illegals? I haven't heard any other US politician say those things. So if you dump Trump, where do you go next? Rome wasn't built in a day, nor a wall.

Here we go again with the Churchill worship. Meh.

As for Trump, the fact that he affirms the stupid Syria story about Assad using chemical weapons, the fact that he affirms the stupid Iran nukes story, doesn't give a lot of cause for confidence in his judgement.

(I'm neutral on how bad a deal the settlement Obama made with Iran was. It was one of the few times he actually bucked the system and threw a bone to his anti-war constituents.)

I'm glad Trump reiterated he's not going to Damascus. I'm happy to see he's prosecuting invaders to the full extent of the law, building his wall, and de-funding a lot of useless federal pork.

Especially the idiotic climate alarmist crap.

But for 200 years the USA has not had a president that hasn't invaded somebody. The 5 living ex-presidents have together bombed over 20 nations.

Trump tweeted that using cruise missiles to destroy runways isn't effective because they're easily repaired, and he's right. The most practical way to destroy a runway is with earth-moving equipment. Or nukes.

Instead of attempting to leave a few craters in the runway, they chose to destroy buildings.

I do not have any doubts that particular part of the tale is false.

The missile attack is a political message 99% and 1% military action.

The Russians were warned (where they like the bombing or not is not part of the question) and this was a televised happening (oh muh beautiful rockets).

The concern is what is the intention of the message and to whom was it addressed.

OTOH, I'd be quite sanguine about Trump lobbing an actual nuke at PyongYang.

Way I see it is, as his country's elected commander in chief, when a country with nukes threatens to use them on your cities, that threat has to be taken seriously.

If only to dissuade others from making similar threats, he is under some obligation to respond in kind.

If people don't like that, then they should probably be more careful about the threats they make.

It is only that this conversation occurs in the midst of a long history of neocon/globalist mindfuckery that makes ones hesitate. Trump has already bombed his modern presidential take-me-seriously allocation of four distinct countries ...

#9,

We may avoid a disaster for the US and Europe as far as the Middle East is concerned, but it doesn't look so great when it comes to domestic matters. There are more globalists and elitists than populists and nationalists in and near the administration now. It is unrealistic to think that Trump can prevent a life-long operative that we might call a "usual suspect" to support economic nationalism or anything populist. It isn't their DNA.

Blogger APL April 12, 2017 5:35 AM

"He was especially upset that Syria had used chemical weapons after supposedly destroying all its stockpiles"

I'm still of the opinion that Assad didn't use chemical weapons, there are a couple of possible scenarios.

1. Assad forces bombed and hit a warehouse which had chemical agents. That material was dispersed across the local area.

It's pretty obvious it wasn't Sarin, which I understand is fairly persistent, so any aid workers handling the injured without Hazmat protection would have exposed themselves too.

2. False flag. This is the one I think is likely, it's a joke, the Jihadi's roll out a dozen Christian children's corpses and get the USA to blow up Assad.

Pretty much the same thing happened in Libya. Foreign policy by compromised MSM.

And the followers of the RoP aren't above dragging the dead around for the purposes of good publicity as we saw way back in Quana.

The response in Syria elevated the President to the office of Leader of the Free World. It was something that the previous President had failed to do and it was done to impress the Chinese delegation.

The Russians did not attempt to defend this lonely airbase because it was not worth the provocation. They were made aware of their complicity beforehand and were given opportunity to evacuate. A response would have allowed us to analyze the effectiveness of their defenses and firmly placed them in the dictator's camp.

At this time we are engaging Ivan and their modern missile defenses are still a wild card. Mr. Trump is no longer working under a cloud of suspicion where Russia is concerned. Everyone here is behaving responsibly.

Let's see what comes out of Moscow. I expect they will exaggerate their strength as much as possible, but they already understand that world opinion is against them and they will lose more by taking a hard line.

President Trump has stated that the real fight is against ISIS. This is true, and I believe he will work something out where we are fighting this low level conflict with assistance from Russia behind the scenes without getting in their way while they continue to prop up Assad.

The question is: will we take military action against the Norks? That will be a more complex scenario and our military is still recovering from 8 years of neglect. South Korea will not easily sign on for a confrontation with their crazy northern cousins.

It's pathological to assume so many things in the manner you just have. The faux exasperation is always a dead give away incidentally. What was I 'wrong' about btw? I don't believe I manifested a serious position one way or the other. Its too early to make any kinds of claims in any direction

Blogger Red Bane April 12, 2017 8:50 AM

IMO - the cruise missile strike was primarily a message to the North Koreans and the Chinese. But it served other purposes as well. It (a) got the MSM and Democrats to shut up on the "Trump is Putin's puppet" message, it (b) got the Neocons to shut up, and (c) it told the world that when Trump said he would not talk, but act, he meant it.

The gas attack was a pretext. No one who is serious gives a crap about whether or not it was real or faked by Assad's enemies. The point was to underline Trump's message to the Chinese that they better deal with the Nork fat boy -- or the USA will. And the USA is not screwing around this time. The Norks will not be given the opportunity to become a blackmailing nuclear power. The can is no longer being kicked down the road. It is the end of the road for that.

Carter gets a pass. There were only 3 military operations between 1977 and 1981.

1) Using transport aircraft to help the French and Belgians rescue whites from the Congo.
2) Operation Eagle Claw - The failed hostage rescue. Our planes blowing up on their own doesn't count as bombing.
3) Peacekeeping in the Sinai. This was part of the Camp David Accords. More welfare for Israel.

Blogger Cail Corishev April 12, 2017 9:28 AM

Orville, fair enough. One good example: when reports said Bannon was out, he could have denied it with a tweet, but (as far as I know) he didn't, which fueled the fires of "OMG we are betrayed!"

My point is that you can believe the president hasn't betrayed us without claiming he's engaged in some highly complex 4D chess that's going over all our heads. Events are explained just fine if you assume President Trump is methodically continuing to pursue his policies, and all the rest is flak being put in the air by his enemies. If he uses the flak as cover, that's great.

Blogger Red Bane April 12, 2017 9:29 AM

@74 The Norks will not be given the opportunity to become a blackmailing nuclear power

Decades of US tax dollar foreign aid has fed their people and enabled this situation to develop. No need to send the warships. Just stop the cash flow to them. A starving populace will soon see their energies directed inward. I know the official numbers for direct aid have dropped off in recent years, but I do not doubt aid is getting there obliquely via other organizations we give money to.

Vox, inasmuch as Trump has reversed himself on so many things and surrounded himself with neo-con and Wall Street bankster advisors, why should we believe him on anything? He has completely bought the neo-con false flag lie that Assad "gassed his own people" and is publically attacking Putin, with whom he should be allied against globalist thugs.

As I write this, there are two North Korean satellites in sun-synchronis polar orbit crossing the U.S. at an altitude of about 300 miles several times a day. Perhaps the North Korean dictator will sit on his hands and wait to be killed by a "surgical strike" or the intrepid Seal Team Six--but I doubt it. Many years ago I did two two tours of duty in Korea and everyone should be assured that Kim Jong-un is not Saddam Hussein and the Koreans are not Arabs. A couple of years ago I wrote the piece at http://tinyurl.com/jwljhel which describes hypothetically what the North might do (it had that capability even then) and references its massive artillery capabilities.

For what its worth.

*sigh*

59 tomahawks couldn't shut down an airport, regardless. That's not what they're designed to do.

Shit, the vaunted Durandel bomb of yesteryear couldn't shut down an airport, despite it being designed to penetrate deep and then blow up the runway. Turns out runway repair isn't all that hard and doesn't take that long. And so we gave up on anti-runway bombs a couple decades ago.

Cruise missile strikes will just cause damage that can then be swept aside while the airport goes back into service. Anyone thinking otherwise is deluded.

Asked specifically about the friction between Bannon and Kushner, he replied: “Steve is a good guy, but I told them to straighten it out or I will. . . ”

Commenter "Liberty Hawk" at Breitbart:

"Correction: WE beat Jeb Bush. We beat Marco Rubio. We beat Lyndsey Graham. WE chose YOU. We fought against John Boehnor, Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan, John McCain, and all the other squishy, nibblers and quibblers who put an 'R' by their name - and have for years.
