An epic trolling

I hate Drew Pearson, of course, because he was a) out-of-bounds on 4th-and-17, and b) unquestionably pushed off, committed offensive pass interference, and murdered both Fran Tarkenton's father as well as the Vikings' Super Bowl chances in 1975, but his performance at the NFL draft in Philadelphia was downright epic:
How about them Cowboys?! I want to thank the Eagle fans for allowing me to have a career in the NFL. Thank you. I am honored as an undrafted free agent to be selected to make the Cowboys' second-round draft pick, and on behalf of the five-time world champion Dallas Cowboys, Hall of Fame owner Jerry Jones! … Gene Jones and the Jones family, coach Jason Garrett and ALL THE COWBOYS PLAYERS WHO PLAYED BEFORE ME! … And played with me and played after me! … With the 60th pick in the second round the Dallas Cowboys select defensive back from Colorado Chidobe Awuzie!!!
No question about where his loyalties remain, anyhow.

It's like he's speaking in tongues.

The trolling of the Eagles fans all weekend by all of the NFC East was definitely on point (and this is coming from a Steeler fan, who happened to marry a Redskins fan, and we happen to have friends who are either NYFG or Eagles fans, as well). Even the Ginger Hammer couldn't help himself, even though the boos towards him are, and will continue to be, completely justified.

My son showed me the video and asked "do you know who this guy is?"

I told him I watched him at his age. It was pretty good trolling for an older guy.

Philadelphia, the city of brotherly shove.

It was enjoyed by all those present and those watching. I watched and laughed, loving it.

I think Drew knows Eagle fans enough to know they love to give and get it. He grew up in the area, after all. And the fans appreciated the opportunity to boo a worthy opponent/troll.

And, of course, the on cue booing of Goddell whenever he darkened the podium.

Well, in fairness, the Hail Mary just kept Minnesota from being 0-5 in Super Bowls. That's not nothing.

Nothing uglier than a Viking fan with an ax to grind... hey there's a wealth of blame to be passed out for that inglorious Superbowl goose egg you guys carry with you everywhere like Jacob Marley's chains... seriously though, from this side of the St. Croix/Mississippi, I can't tell you satisfying it is to go outside on that one special Sunday night, usually in mid-fall, and hear the moaning and whaling when the door is slammed on Minnesota's postseason hopes YET AGAIN... it's so powerful Obe Wan Kenobe can feel it...

... but I'm sure, I'm SURE this new stadium is going to help. Or the new ownership. Or the new coach who paints his house Packer colors. Or (GENERIC SUPERSTAR X) will surely make all the difference. Or (PROMISING HEAD-TURNING PROSPECT) will keep them off balance... Great Maker, Vikings tears are delicious!!!!

Pearson's Eagles smack talk followup Drew doubles down.

Goodell encouraged Pearson's trolling Payback by proxy.

For more draft booing fun, this montage of Jets first-round draft picks and their fans' reactions is a great piece ESPN put together back when it was good. It starts a little slow, but wait for it...

Speaking of epic trolling:

Back in the cold war days, Charter 77 trolled the Czechoslovak Secret Police during a May Day parade by unfurling a banner that read "Charter 77 offers courage to society" in front of a bunch of communist dignitaries. (Charter 77 was the movement started by Havel and others to protests the governments lack of adherence to the Helsinki Accords and the totalitarian power that the secret police had).

The thing was, they were just going to quickly unfurl the sign and take a picture of it from across the street and then quickly take it down, but the guy who was given the task of taking a picture was stopped by the secret police and asked why he was taking pictures. So, they left the sign up for a good long time until they could get the photo snapped. The police didn't even register that it was a protest sign.

@11 Can't stop laughing. I'm surprised they didn't start throwing batteries (a regional hobby) at the Comm'ish.

the only way Pearson could have made that better would have been to say:

"I am honored to make the Cowboys ... GREAT AGAIN ... by selecting"

Blogger James Dixon May 01, 2017 1:54 PM

In his defense, all great receivers I've ever seen push off, they just don't get caught.

Hey man, it isn't like I have had much to be excited about lately, either.

Vox, this is for you.

Hail Mary full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death Amen.

That's ok, because a) the Packers false started on the QB sneak in the Ice Bowl, b) Benny Barnes never committed pass interference in SB X, and c) Dez caught it.

Blogger mrparabolic May 01, 2017 9:21 PM

That was pretty awesome that he was able to deliver that so well through such loud booing. I was thinking, "Come on, just stutter a little you fucking jackass." Ha. Good on him.

The most disputed call on a catch in years was overturned on replay, where the standard is "indisputable visual evidence".

Doesn't pass a laugh test.

Some "Living Constitutionalists" on the NFL instant replay team.

May Day in Red Square as Gorbachev reviewed the parade from the platform over Lenin's tomb, two Orthodox men walking in the parade unfurled a banner that read, and they shouted out, "Mikhail Sergeyevich, Christ is Risen!"
