Busting Black Bloc

The first of 212 Black Bloc protesters arrested on Inauguration Day has pleaded guilty.
A Florida man with the radical “black bloc” protest network has pleaded guilty to felony rioting and assault for his role in the Inauguration Day chaos in the District. Dane Powell, 31, of Tampa, was the first to enter a guilty plea on felony charges brought against 212 protesters accused of rioting and vandalizing property during the Jan. 20 melee surrounding President Trump’s swearing-in ceremony.

Scheduled to be sentenced July 7, he faces a possible six years in prison for breaking windows and throwing a “brick, large rock or piece of concrete” at officers after joining a mob of masked black bloc protesters who moved en masse across 16 blocks in about 30 minutes, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The God-Emperor should, in his mercy, offer him the option of a nice helicopter ride in lieu of spending so much time in prison.

The authorities, they are no longer uniformly amenable.

Of course. I am patient. And kind.

Lots of alt-right types have turned on the God-Emperor. You thoughts?

They are young and/or emotionally incontinent. And they have no idea how big the bureaucracy, how independent and powerful the Senators and Congressmen are, or how difficult the challenge is.

I'm not about to make the very, very common mistake of counting out the God-Emperor too early.

He should also be offered his choice of helicopters. Marine One has its merits but Trump's own helicopter offers a more personal touch.

If he pled guilty, I assume it was because there was a plea deal....I wonder what the degree of cooperation against the others and the sentence agreed to was. A little odd that the news is all about the plea, but not the more important deal.

Given the depth of commitment exhibited by Yale grad student "hunger-strikers," (they reportedly can leave the "strike" to eat whenever they wish), I wonder if any of these clowns ever imagined their folly could land them in the Federal Penitentiary?

Even if he avoids jail, there are many other penalties that automatically accrue to a felony conviction, like loss of voting rights and the inability to buy guns legally.

Blogger Shimshon May 02, 2017 8:49 AM

@6 If he pled guilty, I assume it was because there was a plea deal...

That's my assumption too, but then why is he still awaiting sentencing? That sounds like he wasn't offered a deal and pled guilty in hopes of leniency.

Blogger Midnight Avenue J May 02, 2017 8:57 AM

Or perhaps pled guilty to get notoriety, or sympathy. "He's rotting in prison for the cause, man!"

I never count out narcissism as a motive force with these people.

Anonymous Pope Cleophus I May 02, 2017 9:06 AM

@12

Once the plea is entered, then the sentencing recommendation is written up by the court. This involves the prosecutor, the defendant and usually a court appointed third party (I knew a retired Detroit cop who did this work). There is always a delay for the paperwork, but many times it is to insure the defendant keeps up their end of the bargain.

Over 90% of Federal cases end in a plea deal. Two years I found cited gave the number as 97 and 95%.

It is much easier to overcharge and take a plea on lesser charges than to risk your win percentage in front of a jury.

I hope they announce one or two deals a day. Trickle them out, keep "black bloc felony rioting conviction" in the news day in, day out, through the summer. Include their names. Make it something that search engines get so many hits on they choke. Make all the potential antifa rent-a-mobs unable to miss what's waiting over their heads if they get out of line. Make them sweat enough they stay home.

Come on, DoJ, you can do it. One or two convictions a day, and when you don't have a conviction to announce, detail the sentences for an earlier conviction. Be effusive in the thanks you express for the handful who turned states evidence in exchange for a modestly lighter (but still felony) sentence.

Honestly the police response to Trump

Derangement Syndrome has been solid. Compare with Paris. After MLK was killed blacks were allowed to burn parts of 100 US cities to the ground. Most urban areas have never recovered 50 years later.

So, the Democrats got their budget and the GOPE caved completely. They are capering around giggling and happy. But what is the Dems' real message to working-class and middle class Americans (especially the white ones)?

"Yeah, you may have elected Trump. But we've totally prevented him from helping you at all!

We stopped him from improving or repealing Obamacare, so enjoy those high premiums and deductibles!

We stopped him from restricting immigrants from terrorist nations, so enjoy more muslims driving trucks through crowds!

We stopped him from defunding the EPA or any other government agency, so businesses will have to keep allocating massive expenditures to comply with thousands of useless regulations! If you were counting on a raise, well...HAHAHA sucks to be you! Oh and if you don't like abortion, just keep paying for it with your tax dollars!

And we DAMN sure stopped him from building the wall! Them borders are staying wiiiiiide open, so get used to having too many bodies chasing too few jobs. LOOOWWWW wages amirite? Oh and the illegals will also kill you via drunk driving and rape the occasional middle-school girl.

LMAO losers get rekt!"

Is this really the message Congress wants to send before the 2018 elections? I guess so.

"I know the ACLU demanded that DC cops turn off their body cams but did they capitulate"

Yeah, that was an interesting one. It wasn't so long ago that the Left was demanding body cams for all to protect against police brutality and institutional racism or something. When body cams started to demonstrate that reality is "racist," the whole issue just disappeared from the legacy media, for some reason.

"What ever happened to bike lock prof? Did he get nailed?"

Eric Michael Clanton's multiple assaults with a deadly weapon/ attempted murders were committed within the borders of the People's Republic of Berkeley, so it's unlikely that he will be charged unless the Feds go after him.

Anonymous SigOther May 02, 2017 2:29 PM

A plea deal is an agreement with the prosecutor. The judge will then review the agreement and any recommendations from prosecutor, ie agreed to recommend 1 year confinement, with parole after 9 months and 4 years probation. This occurs at a sentencing hearing, apparently.

Take the hottest, heaviest, hardest definition of hatred that the $PLC can provide; raise it to the power of infinity; and you have my opinion of nothing less than the very concept of a plea bargain. Trial, trial, trial, and only trial, and in public, where justice is not only done but seen to be done.

The combination of overcharging and plea bargaining is especially disturbing. "We're charging you with 47 felonies, and you can go to trial with that, or you can plead guilty to a single charge, and get 18 months in prison. By the way, the maximum sentence, should you go to trial and be convicted on all counts, is 50 years." That's a little bit of an exaggeration, but not much.

Offer 'em half the sentence... at Guantanamo. You can bet most would jump at it. Leave the door open; let 'em 'escape' to their communist paradise. Let a little hands-on experience re-educate 'em.
