Old advisors, outdated strategy

Mike Cernovich explains why the Trump team is having such a difficult time with the media.
When WaPo or NY Times drops a “devastating” story on Trump, do you know who reads these stories — liberals!

Thus one can see the problem with Trump’s media team. They are spending all of their time, energy, and focus responding to news that most Trump supporters won’t even see, and if we see it, won’t believe it.

Trump was right (for the wrong reasons) when he jokingly claimed he could shoot someone on Fifth Ave. Most of his supporters would never see the story, and absent a clear video, wouldn’t believe the story if they saw it.

Want to know how out “out of touch” Trump supporters are with what liberal media is saying? I don’t even notice most of the media hit pieces on me, and even with a massive online following, people rarely ask me about anything nasty the media is saying about me. My readers, like me, aren’t reading liberal propaganda outlets.

Trump’s media team is playing defense, running around responding to stories that most of Trump’s base will never read, and if they read, would never believe.
He's absolutely right. When the battleground is disadvantageous, refuse to play on it. Force the enemy to meet you on your chosen ground. This isn't new, it's literally ancient strategy.

All men can see the tactics whereby I conquer, but what none can see is the strategy out of which victory is evolved.

I follow the MSM so little that I can't tell whether Trump's people are really "running around responding to stories" like he says, or if it's just that the media are portraying them that way, and then some on our side are being triggered by it.

In some cases, it looks to me like the media are writing stories in pairs: first the story about a supposed crisis, and then the story to follow about how badly they're responding to it. The second one may be as much smoke as the first.

Blogger SemiSpook37 May 19, 2017 6:51 PM

There's been talk of canceling the daily press briefing. Just do it. Make the legacy media attempt to fill time will whatever crap they're insisting on pulling from their backsides and be done with it.

The country seemed to get along just fine without the briefing before the days of the 24 hour news cycle. Most normal people are too busy WORKING to be able to view such tripe. Kill it at the source and do us all a favor.

Anonymous Looking Glass May 19, 2017 6:52 PM

@5 Cail Corishev

We've gone from "spin everything in the worst possible way" to outright fabrication of stories. Trump has an advantage of letting them get more insane, then completely cutting off their public access to the Fed Gov.

Everything is about the Narrative and media collusion. Which brings up some really interesting questions about Anti-Trust Laws.

That's a sped up version of the older play vs. BusHitler. In those days the game was:
A. Anonymous sources leak mumble stuff to swamp press.
B. Swamp media reports leak as news / fact.
C. Uniparty demands response and investigation.
D. Swamp media reports demand for response and investigation "proves" initial report was true.

With the news wash-rinse+spin cycle faster now the swampmedia gets ahead of itself sometimes. Clearly the swampmedia needs MOAR diversity, too.

Do the Daily Briefing by Skype and only take questions from reporters in writing and only those south of the Mason-Dixon line and East of the Ohio River. And west of the Sierra Nevadas. They're dependent. Make them go Cold Turkey.

There is also the point to be made that Trump gives people time to screw up royally. Notice Comey got canned *after* Yates testified. After Comey had testified (twice I believe). After he had all of his Cabinet posts filled. Only then did he get the boot.

And "Nut Job" is either the most brilliant name he's dropped on someone yet, or it's a hilarious situation where the press invented a massive slander of Comey on their own. The latter is distinctly possible.

Blogger Cail Corishev May 19, 2017 7:16 PM

The more I think about it, the more it fits.

When Fake News puts out story #1 about some supposed scandal or crisis, many people have caught on enough to ignore or be skeptical of it. But when they follow that with story #2 about the reaction to story #1, people are much more credulous. I'm not sure why; maybe it's because story #2 doesn't seem like a direct accusation, but just talking about people talking, so the bias is less obvious.

But what if story #2 -- the Trump administration is disorganized and panicked and his supporters are jumping ship -- is the real Narrative at this point, and the various story #1s are actually secondary, and mostly written as setups for #2? Then it's important for everyone to learn to ignore the second type of stories as well as we've learned to laugh at the first kind.

Blogger Al From Bay Shore May 19, 2017 7:18 PM

It's so early in Trump's presidency. We're barely beyond the 100 day benchmark. That dude appears to have a habit of assessing, applying, and adapting. AND he seems to have mastered "chaos". I predict that six months from now we'll all be saying "Trump is the man!". I ain't sweatin' this at all. Go Trump, go!

Yep. When CNN was bitching about access, I said they should do it by lottery. With today's technology, there's no reason a TV network in NYC should have more access than a one-room radio station in Fairfield, Iowa. Let every journalist in the country sumbit his name, pick a few names from a hat for each presser, and let them ask questions by remote.

It couldn't be any worse than the old system.

Anonymous Rfvujm May 19, 2017 7:23 PM

Trump supporters won't see Trump's media team's responses to the slander put out by the liberal media. Anti-Trump zombies won't believe anything put out by Trump's media team.

I'm not sure of the point of the effort, but Trump has proven time and time again that he is thinking multiple steps ahead of everyone else. I'll sit back and wait to see how this develops.

Anonymous Steve May 19, 2017 7:30 PM

I follow the MSM so little that I can't tell whether Trump's people are really "running around responding to stories" like he says, or if it's just that the media are portraying them that way

Same here. I don't watch the news or buy papers so only find out what their latest narrative is secondhand, or if someone shares a Youtube snippet.

I've seen Spicer beat the press like he was celebrating Ike Turner Day, Pierson bullycide some talking head till they wow just wowed, and Gorka laughing at a visibly flustered BBC journo. But mebbe that's not representative.

To my simple mind, grabbing the media's limp wrist and smacking them in the face with their own manicured hand while asking "Why are you hitting yourself? Why are you hitting yourself? Why are you hitting yourself?" has value, and here's why:

They're not going away. Sure, long term they're probably screwed (though with the trend of billionaires buying legacy media as loss-leader PR outlets can't be ignored), but regardless -
there will still be an MSM come Trump's second glorious term.

They still have influence over the public mood. In November the United States very nearly elected a palpably evil, vindictive old woman who looks like Norman Bates's mother and can't climb a flight of stairs without hacking up green ichor and/or someone being mysteriously murdered. In saner times her popularity would've hovered somewhere between bowel cancer and Jeffrey Dahmer. The MSM was crucial to her almost-victory.

Leaving the traditional media playing field won't stop the press lying about Donald Trump, it'd just give them emotional breathing space to practice their linguistic killshots. At the moment, they're being driven to insanity and death by Trump's people constantly triggering them - take Colbert's foul-mouthed breakdown or the padded cell that awaits Olbermann, for example.

When normally smug, polished media professionals start screaming abuse on camera or frantically typing ALL CAPS profanities on Twitter, it's a sign of deep emotional distress. They're mad as hell and literally can't even anymore. I do believe the combination of elevated stress hormones, lack of sleep, and their customary diet of caffeine and cocaine will cause more than one death from Trump Derangement Syndrome. Think of it as nature's helicopter.

“Never interfere with your enemy when he is making a mistake.” ~ Napoleon

Patience is the key. It's hard enough putting a posse together to go catch some cattle rustlers, but if the rustlers are willing to come to you and will bring their own rope, why stop them? Trump could have fired Comey the day after he was sworn in but that would have started a press war which would still be raging today. Instead Trump showed a little patience and it took him five months to get what he wanted. And Comey did all the work for him, just by standing in front of a few microphones. Doing things this way, Trump's two scoops of ice cream had a longer news life than Comey's exit.

Yes Trump wants victory, but he doesn't want war. His long goal here isn't to slay his enemies, it's to convert them and bring them into his camp. He already got half the country just by running for office. The other half are like unruly children, to hoping they can be raised to become responsible citizens. Destroying them is the last option, always.

Trump's team isn't playing defense, they're building hanging scaffolds for those who are dumb enough to show up with their own rope.

Old Soviet proverb: You don't read the newspaper for the truth, you read it for the lies.
That's what we have now in the West, not only in USA but here in Germany exactly the same, we basically get translated versions of NYT and WaPo from five local press oligarchs.
When this stage is reached, the collapse of the regime is close as their propaganda arm becomes ineffective. Counterproductive actually.

The other weekend Alex Jones was remarried and Trump called to congratulate him. He also said he wanted to come on the show and Alex said no. In Alex's mind he was doing Trump a favour by keeping him away from controversy. Alex is pretty wild and everyone knows it. There is no downside to Trump going on Infowars and the media would go INSANE.

If anyone at Infowars reads this blog, convince Alex to have Trump on. Alex needs to stop being the underdog. Mike if you read this, tell Alex to get Trump on the show. Like it or not Alex, you are Mainstream now. Start winning. Trump wants a forum to get his message out and connect to a large part of his base.

Simple. Submit questions ahead of time in writing. One verbal follow-up if your question is picked. Plus re-instate the skype questions.

The answer to the verbal follow up is "I will have to get back to you on that." or " you should ask X department".

Don't underestimate Trump. Trump is pursuing a long term strategy that Nixon persued: get the Left riled up. The Left got riled up under Nixon and they channeled their energies getting one of the most left wing candidates of a major party nominated. Also the actions of the Left made a bad impression on Middle America. Nixon got 60 percent of the vote in 1972. Today, the Left is the most riled up since the 1960s. Trump is baiting Elizabeth Warren with the Pocahontas jibe. I give a 66 percent chance that the Dems will nominate someone in 2020 who is to the left of Hillary Clinton. Such a nomination increases Trumps chance of winning.

Blogger Cataline Sergius May 19, 2017 8:46 PM

I'm getting the feeling his advisers don't want to open the new playbook.

Which is why they insist on keeping the press pool around. They have a template for dealing with them.

And that template is negotiated surrender if you are Republican president.

If you can set the agenda you can set the paradigm. And even kicked out of the White House proper, the press pool sets the paradigm.

OT Vox,
In Austria the coalition of the center-left and center-right party broke up and there will be a new election in October 2017. Currently, the center-right and right-wing party have nearly half the seats in the parliament already. The green party is expected to loose voters, while the left-liberal and right-liberal partie (Neos and Team Stronach) will maybe and surely drop out of the parliament, respectively. The center-left party is not expected to make gains. The big winners will be, and must be, the right leaning parties.

Usually I would not put much faith into the conservative cucks, but now Sebastian Kurz has taken over leadership. Despite being 30 years old, he has already done a much greater service to Europe and Austria than most conservatives do in their whole life. Being Austria's foreign minister since age 27, he was the single most important political figure responsible for closing the Balkan route, thus keeping hundreds of thousands if not millions of invaders out. He is in the process of closing the Italian route and already has publicly called out NGOs for cooperating and actively assisting the human traffickers bringing the Africans over. From an Austrian point of view his most bally move was to politically break with the Germans, thereby doing what no other Austrian politician dared to do in many many decades. His recent immigration laws aim towards removing islam from public life.

The left leaning Austrian media and all of Germany's media are already writing their hit pieces on him. Apparently, he is the first Austrian politician since Haider deserving the title literally Hitler, which these days appears to be a compliment.

Our next government will likely be strongly right leaning. It seems as if you were right, and the times are really changing. Note also that according to polls, if there was a vote right now in Vienna, around 40% would vote for the right wing party, giving them a vast edge over the social democrats coming second at around 25%. The same social democrats that have won every single Viennese election since 1919.

Honestly the first thing I would do is...okay the very first thing I would do shut down the press room.

But once that was done I would make YouTube the White House's primary propaganda outlet. After Twitter it's where Millennials get most of their of information.

The White House YouTube channel should be a daily stop for the nation and it's criminally misused. There are YouTube gamers that blow those numbers away on a daily basis.

Prime examples:

White House Channel: President Trump's First 100 Days (118,000 views).

Song Voyage Channel: Chicken Attack (10,000,000 views)

Twitter, the God Emperor gets. He doesn't need too much help there. But the White House YouTube channel is a disaster. And I don't think he does Periscopes at all.

There is a brave new world out there if you are GOP president and he isn't using any of it.

According to Steve Pieczenik, Roger Stone, and Dave Hodges the rats are using an age-old strategy, the one Nixon's enemies used to plot HIS impeachment. While Nixon was abroad, they promulgated the plot for his movin' on out (movin' on out) of the White House (movin' on out) to a Deeluxe apartment in Van Nuuyys. Moovin' on out... (movin' on out)...

I learned about it years later when I stumbled on the archive during a yahoo search. It was stunning, at the time, the international scope of their scheming, but it explained how they arrange a swarm of attacks from every corner of the world at once.

I suppose we were Alt-Right before it was fashionable but it was a heluva price to pay in real life for a bunch of undergrads never expecting character assassination as a fringe benefit of a fricking student newspaper effort.

But like Trump, we threatened their carefully engineered narrative and had to be destroyed.

We weren't. But only because we were a stubborn bunch of sonsabiches and loved a fight.

it appears he is unnecessary risking himself with reckless statements about comey.

Repeating the media narrative still doesn't make it so. His statements about Comey haven't been "reckless" at all; they've been straightforward and on point.

Look, the "impeachment" push lasted all of about 20 hours. It was a trial balloon to see how many Republicans could be stampeded into betraying him publicly. It was a well-concerted effort that pulled in both mainstream liberal and conservative mouthpieces, and it went nowhere. It had nothing to do with anything he's said.

It's just as possible that his refusal to back down from his "reckless" talk was what called their bluff and got them to back down, so that in less than a day the New York Times was already sending out the stand-down signal.

Also, what really matters is Josh's list. If he goes into the office every day and makes progress on his policy goals, he will sail to relection and none of this smoke matters. I'm sure for people who are in the media business or working closely with media every day, handling the media seems critical, but it's not, so much -- if he's getting the job done, which he has been so far.

Blogger Cail Corishev May 19, 2017 11:27 PM

Have you ever watched any of these press briefings?

I haven't, but last weekend I was talking to a mainstream conservative Trump supporter, and he was singing the praises of Spicer and the way he bitch-slaps the media. So I dunno. There may be some value in the charade, for the audience that still pays attention to it.

@5-Press briefings were invented to have the White House control the press, and dictate to them what to report. That's not going to happen with Trump, so what's the point? He can get out his message on his own if he wants.

That's why everyone in the MSM and n mainstream politics is warning him to stop tweeting. They don't want him to use the bully pulpit, because they don't want to lose their position as middlemen.

@12-It's often all about talking, though. Look at the Comey Secret Diary story. You start with Comey and Trump chit-chatting. A story about that breaks via an "anonymous source says" Comey said this about Trump. That's the main story.

Then everything else is about talk, too. Because the MSM and national politics is full of gossiping junior high school girls.

there is no case for impeachment

What is the legal case for a judge in Hawaii blocking Trumps travel ban?

Where is same sex marriage rights found in the constitution? Or abortion?

How do you arrive at the conclusion that Obamacare is a tax?

What possible difference does it make if there is a case for impeachment or not?

It will be decided by a vote of the Democrats and their loyal fake opposition the GOP.

Things like the law, facts, and the constitution will only matter if the Uniparty decides they matter.

On the topic of lying here, I was watching a recorded stream of two people playing Hearts of Iron 4 as the US and Argentia and forming their own faction called, 'The Blues Brothers,' (because I have nothing better to do on a Friday night), and because I got curious about Uruguay, I decided to check out its wikipedia page and... had some of the biggest laugh out loud moments in a while.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uruguay

To quote:

"Uruguay is ranked first in Latin America in democracy, peace, lack of corruption,[8] e-government,[9] and is first in South America when it comes to press freedom, size of the middle class and prosperity.[8] On a per-capita basis, Uruguay contributes more troops to United Nations peace-keeping missions than any other country.[8] It ranks second in the region on economic freedom, income equality, per-capita income and inflows of FDI.[8] Uruguay is the third-best country on the continent in terms of HDI, GDP growth,[10] innovation and infrastructure.[8] It is regarded as a high-income country (top group) by the UN.[9] Uruguay is also the third-best ranked in the world in e-Participation.[9] Uruguay is an important global exporter of combed wool, rice, soybeans, frozen beef, malt and milk.[8] Nearly 95% of Uruguay's electricity comes from renewable energy, mostly hydroelectric facilities and wind parks.[11]

The Economist named Uruguay "country of the year" in 2013,[12] acknowledging the innovative policy of legalizing the production, sale and consumption of cannabis. Same-sex marriage and abortion are also legal, leading Uruguay to be regarded as one of the most progressive nations in the world, and one of the most socially developed, outstanding regionally,[13] and ranking highly on global measures of personal rights, tolerance, and inclusion issues.[14]"

Please tell me the Infogalactic page for this country doesn't try and gussy it up in lefty claptrap like that, please?

What do you make of this? Tonight on the courthouse lawn:

Our worship was led by Pastor Cisco of the New Covenant Fellowship (Church of God, Cleveland, TN). We had a mix of new worship and very old hymns sung with power.

Our message was given by Chaplain (Commander) Bob Maples, USN, Retired. He's 80 years old and a Baptist preacher for 61 years.

Our time of prayer for individuals was led by Lonnie Looper a 72 year old Arminian healing evangelist.

Frances, a Catholic lady from St Johns was healed of arthritis in her hands and knees.

Bishop Dionysius of the Russian Orthodox Church in America filmed and posted Bob's sermon on Facebook live.

Marshall, a young man who listened to the sermon two weeks ago (posted on Men of the West) is clean, sober, reading the Daily Bread, and was particularly touched by meeting Bob Maples.

There is an extremely disturbing hypothesis that schizophrenia can be psychosomatic, in which sustained psychological distress causes brain distress that causes the disorder. And I've read that just one month of sustained distress can cause PTSD.

How long until Hillary's pet cognitive-behavioral scientists have driven a significant percentage of Americans literally crazy?

Anonymous Looking Glass May 20, 2017 3:14 AM

@84 SciVo de Plorable

Schizophrenia is generally a cascade over-load of the cross-talk among the brain. Major head trauma or LSD can set it off. You'd need some severe psychological stress to cause it. Now, if you layered massive emotional distress and a really high sugar diet, you're probably about half the way there. You have to get the neuro-inflammation jacked up to cause the effect.

PTSD (breaks a part of the sensory system) or generalize Mania (hyper-activity of a specific section of the brain) would be what I suspect would be most likely, but those normally would take some form of direct isolation. (I'm quite sure they buried testing for how to actually trigger specific neurosis via specific stressors. I can't be the first one to figure out that's possible.)

More likely approach would be to cause distress and use reinforcement techniques like they do with things like John Oliver's show. Which operates as a low-level trance inducing video, normally.

@83 Beau

God Bless you and your church, Brother Beau.

Anonymous Avalanche May 20, 2017 9:14 AM

@65 "The MSM is powerless....he's having a ball!"

Except he is *demoralizing his people*! His base! The people who voted him in and are desperately hoping for change (ooh look! Hope and change!)

BECAUSE there is no good working way for him to get his word out TO US, we are struggling! (*I* worry, but am relying on the God Emperor to be doing what we've asked him to do -- however slowly and carefully.) But even *I* mostly don't try to search out his 'public sessions.' (I'm not even sure where to look! IS he actually doing a weekly 'report to the people somewhere online? HOW do we get his words!)

(I keep haranguing my neighbors to NEVER believe anything unless they see it ACTUALLY coming out of his mouth directly!! AND, they must NOT rely on the MSM, who will show a tiny snippet of his speech -- and then provide the most corrupt lying discussion of the (rest of the) speech that directly contradicts everything he said except that tiny snippet that suits the MSM! Having mixed results -- because where do THEY go and where will they get the time to watch an half-hour speech at a rally?)

I share with my 'tribe' -- who, even while acknowledging they're still watching the MSM -- keep asking about 'what's going on, what's he doing, why isn't he doing anything?' -- my own concerns, but also my own belief that he IS playing 4-D chess!

I say he CANNOT just "act like a dictator!" (And that *I*, too, really Really REALLY want him to do so) That he HAS to tread carefully right now, because he does not have an unbeatable majority in Congress -- and because "we" are planning already how to "primary out" the %^&+#*$ NeverTrumpers and lying RINOS! That "we" are doing it on a state level -- FINDING the Trump supporters to elect in the next election, so Trump CAN do the legislative things that need doing.

And "LOOK -- Mick Mulvaney said they've already passed 37 legislative changes through Congress -- you didn't HEAR about that anywhere else! So you CAN'T say President Trump is not making legislative change: only that YOU are NOT being told about it by the MSM!!!" (Even *I* did not know about those!)

I say that he DAREN'T, right now, fight it out in the courts-- the courts are madly/insanely corrupt! Even with Goresuch, there is no assurance he WOULD have an unbeatable Supreme Court! SO he cannot go charging into the SC and RELY on a legal ruling!

(Anyone notice no Antifa violence lately? Is it cause we're not triggering them -- or are rallies and such still going on -- just not being reported or invaded?)

I WISH there were a good way to get Trump on MSM TV at least once a week to speak to the people -- to NOT respond tot he *)+@#%&*+ media lies - but to tell us straight out: "here's what we've done this week! Here's where we're stuck because we're blocked (and by whom). Here's what YOU can do to help me!"

Wanna bet the people would rise up (in an organized fashion!) and whack their Congress people -- and even "civil" service people to do their jobs!

On a completed unrelated note, it also states:

OT? maybe?

Anyone else notice that YouTube has been buried under "new" video aggregators? If you go look for something, there are a couple of pages of stuff posted by e.g., "TruthSeries," "Top Stories Today."

In my own interest area (geology, Ice Ages, climate), 3-4-5-YEAR-old vids are being re-posted now with new titles; finding current stuff is really difficult. Because this obfuscation has spread into current politics, I'm wondering if it's a 'movement' to make current/new things harder to find?

Or am I just being paranoid?!

Trump was right (for the wrong reasons) when he jokingly claimed he could shoot someone on Fifth Ave.

Maybe taking a helicopter over 5th Ave would be better? ;)

Trump's people constantly triggering them - take Colbert's foul-mouthed breakdown or the padded cell that awaits Olbermann, for example

Colberts pissing off the trannies shows a breakdown of the coalition of the fringes.

Now that you mention it, it's been quiet on that front.  After Alt-Knight fought back and both Moldylocks and Prof. Bike Lock got outed and targeted for prosecution, the Antifag intimidation tactics have been largely neutralized, no?  Escalating the level of force would get the networks investigated.  There really doesn't seem to be much they can do except shriek, and that's not a whole lot of fun.

They also learned their tactics only work on restrained police and folks that don't fight back. Their yellows and greens are finding out that if they are providing shield for the attacks, then they are valid targets and no one will care about their shrieking that someone "hit a peaceful protester."
