A code of conduct for BEER

Seriously, if you don't shut down SJWs when they come for the nerds' comics and games and open source projects, sooner or later, they will come for your beer and burgers and sports.
In April 2017, the Brewers Association (BA), a trade group that serves the craft beer industry, enacted a set of rules designed to stem the use of sexist and offensive brewery and beer names (see Brewers Association standing up to breweries, beers with offensive names, labels). But, Flying Dog Brewery sees the move by the BA as an overt attempt at censorship. And, to protest the move, Flying Dog CEO Jim Caruso has severed ties with the industry group.

In a letter dated July 14, 2017 and addressed to BA CEO Bob Pease, Caruso says that the policy, “… is an attempt by the BA to censor beer names that offend the sensibilities of some at the BA, primarily by trying to intimidate breweries into censoring themselves.”

In the BA’s policy, a procedure is laid out on how brewers can police their peers — Caruso reads this as competitors — by lodging a formal complaint. Should the offending brewery cease advertising or using a name that is considered offensive by the reporting brewery within 30 days of the complaint, the matter is considered closed. But, if the name and/or advertising is not ceased, a sort of tribunal is convened. The final decision of the tribunal — in reality a group of three BA appointed representatives — is published on the BA’s website for all the world to read. In addition, names found to be offensive will be banned from being spoken at BA sanctioned events like the Great American Beer Festival, Savour and more. If a brewery or beer with a name deemed offensive happens to win a medal in a competition at one of these events, they will not be publicly identified. Winners are also banned from using Brewers Association intellectual property such as identifying a banned beer name as a medal winner in a BA sanctioned event.

Caruso sees all this as forms of censorship, thought policing and just plain creepy.
You have two choices with SJWs. Submit or destroy them. Choose one. Choose wisely.

Pry my Raging Bitch from my cold, dead fingers. Good ale from Flying Dog.

Just renamed my 8% ginger ale Red Hot Honey. Now for some mildly inappropriate artwork.

Brew some SJWaler: warm tap water, three drops of purple food coloring, 2 tsp salt. Serve in a glass, rim dusted with alum. This is good for what ails them.

DON'T mess with my beer.

BBGKB wrote:And the Winner is Noah Ward, second place is Noah Ward, & 3rd Place is Noah Ward.

My initial thought was to rename my entries this year to be as offensive as possible. Even though judging is supposed to be double blind I wouldn't put it past organizers to try and hurt entries with offensive names. They don't want to be put in a situation where a significant number of medals aren't able to be announced. I am guessing the better course of action would be to not pay my dues and support what ever rival organization Flying dog tries to form.

The home brewing community is made up of a large number of people who will grumble about this but many of the big named breweries are located on the left coast. They will not hesitate to support this whole heartedly and I am guessing most of the midwest breweries will just keep their heads down. Especially since a good number of their customers are currently hipsters. I can't wait for the hipsters to move back to wine or some other drink.

I'll have to pick up some flying dog this weekend.

Hence one way or another they must all go, go back, go into the soil as fertilizer, go into the hog farm as feed, etc. They just must go.

WE see a lot of this Code of Conduct nonsense these days. I saw an article this morning talking about how they want a Code of Conduct for venture capitalists in Silicon Valley to identify and smoke out the "sexual harassers". This Code of Conduct for beer brewers is very similar and it will result in the same outcome....as must happen anytime public shaming and big money are involved. There will be shakedowns, extortion, lying, racketeering, blackmail, and worse. All the ex wives and former girlfriends will come out of the woodwork. The SJWs will all line up with their hungry lawyers to shake the money tree for unearned dollar bills. Hopefully, the venture capitalists will leave Silicon Valley with their wealth intact and the beer brewers will start a new trade association that is not converged.

You cannot hope to beat the SJWs at their own game. The best result is to deny them their God-given right to suck a bruise on everyone they meet. Just avoid them like you would the plague or a mad dog. Just say NO.

The answer to this is to set up competing associations now! The American beer industry was wiped out by Prohibition and is only now making a comeback. People like these craft beers and it is wrong for the touchy-feely crowd to worry about names like Arrogant Bastard Ale or the Licking Hole Creek brewery.

This looks like a chance for real men to stand up and be counted before the virtue-signalers get their fingers too far into the brewing industry.

Unfortunately, Weinhards is merely a brand of Anheuser Busch now. They were bought by Olympia in the 1980, who were bought by Pabst in the 90s, who sold out to Miller-Coors in the 2000s, who sold several brands to InBev AB.
Most of what passes for "craft brews" at the local grocery these days are merely brands of AB or Miller-Coors. Look at the location of the brewery, usually listed on the label. If it's Denver or Irving TX, it's Miller-Coors. If it's St Louis, it's AB.

BTW, if THIS isn't a converged organization, I don't know what is.

Beer names are offensive but no doubt vaginal beer is stunning and brave.

Sharia law will sort it all out.

Anonymous WaterBoy July 18, 2017 3:53 PM

From the article: "In April 2017, the Brewers Association (BA), a trade group that serves the craft beer industry, enacted a set of rules designed to stem the use of sexist and offensive brewery and beer names."

The ol' Slippery Slope comin' up, when they get rid of all the really "offensive" names and move the line further down to take out things like Nutty Brewnette and UniBräu Hefewiessen. Because once they get started, they just can't stop.

What's wrong with drinking Bud?

What isn't?

Blogger weka July 18, 2017 4:49 PM

Speights. The beer is diluted by tears.

Blogger Snidely Whiplash July 18, 2017 4:50 PM

Drink bud all you like. I prefer beer

Also, changing the dame to "America" for the summer? Lame.

Raging Bitch Ale was actually banned in Michigan during the governorship of "Dingbat" Jenny Granholm.

And yes, it was because she didn't like the name.

If I said you'd be fairly hot if you'd just wore dresses and did something with your hair...

Along these lines, how long has it been since anyone has seen Cherokee Red soda in a grocery store? It was good stuff but the real fun was in how offensive it was.

Blogger Snidely Whiplash July 18, 2017 8:42 PM

I know double-Ds and those ain't no double-Ds, son.
The Morning Glory, on the other hand...

Lame is more polite than what I called it.

What the *beep* is a Delaware company doing laying claim to the title Old Dominion??

Blogger Roger G2 July 18, 2017 11:30 PM

Hats off to Caruso, and next time I can go out for a beer I'll look for some Flying Dog. Hopefully, this fiasco will raise the brewery's profile. It's a win-win for the common guy when SJW's converge or attempt to converge an organization: it always makes their victim(S) famous and it further outrages the decent, sane people-who in turn vote with their wallets and at the polls.

Codes of cuck are rampant in the pot dispensary industry. Expect the same soon for strain names.

Perhaps it is really a sly commentary about how bad things have gotten here? Yeah, wishful thinking. I drank a Bud once in the past decade. The hangover from it reminded me why I don't touch them.

I can't believe I'm halfway through the comments, and nobody's suggested a beer named Mohammed. It was literally the first thing I thought of. I don't even drink, and I'd buy it.
