CNN is the new Gawker

This public threat issued by CNN to an anonymous meme maker marks an interesting development in so-called "professional journalism". Since when is it the job of the news media to report, or not report, the news depending upon whether someone behaves how they want? And since when is it acceptable to blackmail a minor?
The apology came after CNN's KFile identified the man behind "HanA**holeSolo." Using identifying information that "HanA**holeSolo" posted on Reddit, KFile was able to determine key biographical details, to find the man's name using a Facebook search and ultimately corroborate details he had made available on Reddit.

On Monday, KFile attempted to contact the man by email and phone but he did not respond. On Tuesday, "HanA**holeSolo" posted his apology on the subreddit /The_Donald and deleted all of his other posts.

"The meme was created purely as satire, it was not meant to be a call to violence against CNN or any other news affiliation," he wrote. "I had no idea anyone would take it and put sound to it and then have it put up on the President's Twitter feed. It was a prank, nothing more. What the President's feed showed was not the original post that was posted here, but loaded up somewhere else and sound added to it then sent out on Twitter. I thought it was the original post that was made and that is why I took credit for it. I have the highest respect for the journalist community and they put their lives on the line every day with the jobs that they do in reporting the news."

The apology has since been taken down by the moderators of /The_Donald subreddit.

After posting his apology, "HanA**holeSolo" called CNN's KFile and confirmed his identity. In the interview, "HanA**holeSolo" sounded nervous about his identity being revealed and asked to not be named out of fear for his personal safety and for the public embarrassment it would bring to him and his family.

CNN is not publishing "HanA**holeSolo's" name because he is a private citizen who has issued an extensive statement of apology, showed his remorse by saying he has taken down all his offending posts, and because he said he is not going to repeat this ugly behavior on social media again. In addition, he said his statement could serve as an example to others not to do the same.

CNN reserves the right to publish his identity should any of that change.
If I was a CNN employee with any big secret to protect, I'd consider resigning today. I somehow doubt the channers are simply going to take this sort of thing lying down. #CNNBlackmail is already trending globally and the firing of the four members of the KFILE team has already been publicly demanded. As Mike Cernovich says, CNN is the new Gawker. And #CNNBlackmail is the new #GamerGate.

Based on what one of the KFILE employees, Andrew Kaczynski said, it appears that this CNN meme may be the real reason HanAssholeSolo was targeted.

This was someone who shared an image of CNN reporters' face with Stars of David next them.

Oh, well, in that case, it's totally justifiable to threaten someone with public exposure, right? And this tweet cracked me up.

CNN producer: "I've had the worst week!"
Van Jones: "Dude, Please!"
@KFILE : "LEEROOOOY JENKINSSSSSS!"

The memes must flow.

This has to be the single dumbest decision CNN could have made. Doing this ON THE FOURTH OF JULY simply adds fuel to the fire.

How do you hand your enemies rhetorical ammunition like this? This is going to be absolutely hilarious to watch. Smug fake news talking heads drowning in a tidal wave of weaponised autism. Such a beautiful picture.

Was thinking today about why people go out of their way to disfigure themselves, mental illness, fashion, mix of both, whatever. The prompt was - and hard to tell these days what is parody, what is irony: Anti-trumpers posting photos of themselves licking urinals with his name on it. Protest, so the story goes.

Well, no shadow of doubt now that professionals in dying industries aren't immune to this self-immolation either. May precipitate it in fact.

The Third Reich/Pharisee Curve: The higher the achievement through over-leveraging their social capital, the greater the extinction by their own folly.

Anonymous Looking Glass July 05, 2017 3:53 AM

This is a Stamp Act-like activity. And it happens on the 4th of July. I caught a mention of it early in the day on T_D before everyone else saw it, but I wasn't expecting it was something this bad. If a 15-year old kid tossing a CNN logo on an already existing Trump clip (we've been trading WWF memes with Trump for 2 years now?) is going to get his entire life threatened because he pissed off CNN, then the gloves are completely off & everyone on the chans knows it.

CNN just declared open war on the one group they never should have. CNN exists wholly within the media and all of the members are DeadBird Blue Checkmarks. #CNNisISIS

Also, this'll be a good lesson to the rest of the Media about acceptable warfare. Not that any of them will have their lives left unturned by the end of this.

Isn't this kind of implied threat against a minor, with credible concern for violence, a bit over the line even for Fake News? I bet an enterprising US Attorney could make hay of this (especially if HAS lives in another state). Would that one did something useful for a change, rather than go after Martha Stewart. Perhaps (((heads))) will role?

As a friend of mine in the right-wing media noted on social media, the "apology" reminded him of the "confessions" given by ISIS/Taliban captives under duress. Eerily similar.

But yeah, I do believe CNN, Kaczynski, McDermott, Massie, Apper, etc. will find that they're not nearly as bullet-proof as they think.

Not really. CNN just pulled the "don't start a land war in Asia" mistake, Internet Version.

But this goes deeper. This isn't Public vs Public warfare. They targeted a normal and are outright blackmailing him. One who happens to be a minor & across State lines. If no one is safe, it means no one is offlimits for reprisal. CNN just made it ugly, and lost any moral cover in the fight. (Big 4GW mistake.)

The front-facing people at CNN won't be the only targets. All of their families and connections are open season. The Head of CNN is the only one that can end the carnage about to befall them, but he'll never do it before it's too late.

Also, the Jewish CNN employee list has been going around for a while, I thought? Was Han also the creator of it?

Anonymous Bobby Farr July 05, 2017 6:21 AM

The whole incident definitely reveals the psychology of the wormy jewy effeminate men who populate the legacy media. They contact the kid and in fear he posts an apology and deletes all his other posts. They then have a phone conversation in which they learn a) he is a kid and b) he fears for his safety. Then, instead of having a normal reaction and giving him a break, they are so aroused at having made a child grovel that they post a message trying to sound like the are big swinging dicks and, although they feel he suitably debased himself for now, they are really tough guys and will get him if steps out of line. Pathetic. It would be pathetic bullying behavior coming from, say, a high school senior. And these are middle-aged so-called professionals.

My assessment is that doxxing the advertising executives' contact info was the tipping point for Gamergate's wins. It lost momentum after that because there were no superior alternative outlets for the advertising money going to Kotaku etc.

I've seen two images already listing CNN's major advertisers. The shorter one was professionally typefaced and had phone numbers. The longer one was simply a list.

In comparison, I've only seen one home address+ doxlist of CNN executives.

I think a lot of the real heat this time is going to be applied to the advertising executives. I would not be surprised if pictures of their family members were included.

If there still isn't anywhere else for the ad money to be spent, things could get even hairier than they are now. If the big money people pressure District Attorneys and federal law enforcement to push back, things might spiral a lot farther out of control.

And the people who come up with new, innovative ways to return value for the ad money currently going to the mass media will start eating not only the mass media's wealth but their influence and power as well.

Interesting times. . . .

It strikes me that the "CNN has a lot of Jews" picture is much more what they're responding about for one reason we wouldn't automatically think: if there's that many on the board & upper execs, you have a clear discrimination case. If we assume they were looking into the guy and saw that, they'd have latched onto it out of instinct.

CNN already has a massive racial discrimination suit going against them, that they'll probably lose, but a close analysis of their leadership could roll out a clear religious discrimination case.

Blogger Al From Bay Shore July 05, 2017 8:03 AM

This worries me a bit. It's one thing for a group of no-names to don black masks and physically attack political opponents but when a major corporation threatens a mischievous shitposter who, by all accounts, did nothing wrong, an important line has been crossed. And in crossing that line, people are responding in kind. A list of home addresses of CNN reporters, and that of Erick Erickson, has just come across the #CNNBlackmail Twitter feed. I'm thinking of the background of that John Brown mural painted by John Steuart Curry.

CNN threatened economic/social damage (which is a real tort) for compliance, and Reddit could easily be involved as well.

And, as always, the cover-up is likely going to be worse than the crime. Or delaying, as the Chaners are going to ruin people.

Jews are paranoid about being "listed" as in a Nazi labor camp.

Actually it goes further back then that. There is Jewish Law against "counting" Jews at all, so as not to draw an evil eye. This to protect God's promise to Abraham that the Jewish people will be as the sand of the ocean. When Jews hold a forum of ten they recite a bible verse with ten words in it instead of numbers.

Whatever the reasons that would have been extra triggering and in multiple ways.

Yes, that's quite possible. The reddit admins have been trying to shush T_D for a while now.

Also, his "apology" doesn't read like it was written by an internet troll, regardless of age. It reads like it was written by a therapist -- or a CNN producer.

I was out of town at the end of last week. The hotel had CNN on in the breakfast room and lobby. From what I could tell, all they were talking about, the whole damned time, was the Trump retweet. Clearly, they believe they are vulnerable and have been hurt by this. Threatening to doxx the person who made the meme is an act of desperation. Contrast this with how hard they work to protect their allies who leak to them.

Anonymous sources have confirmed that the boy is only 15 years old. (Two can play this game, CNN!)

Anonymous Shut it down.jpg July 05, 2017 9:11 AM

1. Post a negative meme about Jews in the media...

2. Jews in the media attack, drawing even more attention to the meme, as well as reinforcing the meme's basic message...

3. Thousands (millions?) of normie goyim suddenly have eyes to see. Oy vey, shut it down!

Blogger Al From Bay Shore July 05, 2017 9:18 AM

@90 That's not I am seeing. #CNNBlackmail continues to hold the top spot. And the top post on #WednesdayWisdom reads as follows:

"After almost a year of fake "Russia" reporting, CNN finally found an actual source for something. #CNNBlackmail #WednesdayWisdom"

Furthermore, the new replies on #CNNBlackmail, as of this posting, are tripling the new replies on #WednesdayWisdom. And there's more. I'm noticing that many of the new replies on #WednesdayWisdom are attacks on CNN.

Maybe at some point #WednesdayWisdom took the top spot but based on the time in which you posted your comment, that was a short lived placement. One thing can be said about #WednesdayWisdom - "You had a good run though".

I left a comment for Stefan on his good rant this morning... because I think he missed a HUGE point:
------
Stefan – you missed the biggest point of CNN's final sentence: CNN was NOT threatening HanA$$holeSolo if HE published anything again; CNN is threatening US; they are threatening ALL U.S. (and foreign) shitlords!!! CNN is threatening the ENTIRE American public -- because they are threatening that if WE publish something they don’t like, they will publish HIS identity! WE are to protect HanA$$holeSolo by NOT meming (or otherwise insulting) CNN!

They are holding our ally in an electrified cell NEXT to ours, and telling us that if WE don't do as CNN requires, they will electrocute HIM in his cell!

FYI: I strongly recommend that you don't correct or advise the professionals in the future. We really don't appreciate it.

If you want something said, say it yourself.

Pretty much all pros hate this. Authors hate it when people tell them "I have a great idea for a book! You can write it and we can split the profits." Game developers hate it when people surreptitiously whisper their "great idea for a game" which most of the time isn't even a game at all. Advice is not support, and unwanted advice is seldom welcome.

Blogger Al From Bay Shore July 05, 2017 9:27 AM

@97 Exactly! Given what you've said, one has to wonder what CNN was thinking. The attacked a regular dude who is counted among enormous numbers of persons who indulge in the fine art of shitposting. The only thing I can come up with, insofar as a rationale, is that CNN hoped to make an example of HanA******Solo as a means of silencing the countless numbers of shitposters. That makes no sense.

The beautiful thing now is that no matter what the real version of events is, CNN can't prove any of their claims without outing the guy.

It really boggles my mind that CNN's legal counsel hasn't forced them to withdraw the piece by now.

Blogger Rebel Skate July 05, 2017 9:32 AM

Reading that CNN article it shows they are still operating under the old rules. That is nothing more than an isolation piece. Their goal is to force an apology out of the God-Emperor. The GE is their target. Anyone/everyone else is just pawns to be used to try and get closer to their goal.
Reading SJWAL makes this clear what they are attempting to do and how they are trying to put the pieces into position.
The way CNN sees it is, if the creator of the meme didn't intend it to be used that way, how much worse is it that the GE used it in such a way.
Forcing an apology from the GE is their desired intent and they are dumb enough to think they will get it.

With what? If 4chan comes after them, they'll out ‘Captain Sum Ting Wong’ and his crew again, and ‘Sam Hyde’ too? If we all come after them, they'll post the U.S. phone book on their website?

They are holding our ally in an electrified cell NEXT to ours, and telling us that if WE don't do as CNN requires, they will electrocute HIM in his cell!
Well they sure picked the wrong people to try that strategy on. The channers couldn't accept a surrender if they wanted to.

Blogger wreckage July 05, 2017 9:33 AM

"CNN is not publishing "HanA**holeSolo's" name because he is a private citizen who has issued an extensive statement of apology, showed his remorse by saying he has taken down all his offending posts, and because he said he is not going to repeat this ugly behavior on social media again. In addition, he said his statement could serve as an example to others not to do the same.

CNN reserves the right to publish his identity should any of that change."

Please excuse me, but these people are fucking lowlife pricks and I would not piss on them if they were on fire.

They learn these tactics in college where the administrators are "amenable authorities." The justification is that you have the right to free speech, but "speech has consequences."

In practice this means that they shut you up with the threat of ostracism, loss of job, and the possibility of physical violence. It never occurs that the same could be done to them because they figure the authorities have their back. And that their opponents are to "principled" to retaliate in kind. Up to now that's been true. But, the worm is starting to turn.

Sorry. Understood. (Thinking out loud here:) And, to stick to my analogy... I (think I) realize (?) that seeing CNN threatening to 'electrocute an ally' as an attempt to force compliance from "us" (i.e., straight-out blackmail) is probably a girl-thing? That this kid, whether or not he's a kid, might get 'electrocuted' is a consequence of war... And that's what happens in war.

Trying to 'protect him' (which I wasn't suggesting doing; I had hoped I was pointing out what CNN hopes would work), by doing what the enemy requires is not fighting, it's capitulating.

Does that follow?

Please don't hotlink that pic from my site though, 'cause I'm fair sure it won't handle any real traffic to speak of.

Not worried about people finding out who I am so much as I just don't want my business website going down from meme traffic. lol

Tried to upload it to kek.gg, but I am ashamed to say, never pulled it off.

After half an hour of failure I concluded that either my exceptionally out of date browser can't parse the site correctly, or I am just way too short for the ride.

The result is the same, regardless.

Anyway, spread as you like (or don't, if it sucks).

[Laughs] CNN is not Gawker. And it assuredly acceptable for anyone with a brain to correct or advise professionals, for it points out their observable flaws and weaknesses, and enables them to improve themselves, especially if they have big egos.
