The DNC-Pakistan connection

While NeverTrump and the media is still muttering RUSSIA-RUSSIA-RUSSIA like a crazed homeless man, the FBI is actively investigating the DNC-Pakistan connection:
FBI agents seized smashed computer hard drives from the home of Florida Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s information technology (IT) administrator, according to two sources with knowledge of the investigation.

Pakistani-born Imran Awan, long-time right-hand IT aide to the former Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairwoman, has since desperately tried to get the hard drives back, an individual whom FBI investigators interviewed in the case told The Daily Caller News Foundation’s Investigative Group.

An additional source in Congress with direct knowledge of the case, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the probe, confirmed that the FBI has joined what Politico previously described as a Capitol Police criminal probe into “serious, potentially illegal, violations on the House IT network” by Imran and three of his relatives, who had access to the emails and files of the more than two dozen House Democrats who employed them on a part-time basis.

Capitol Police have also seized computer equipment tied to the Florida lawmaker....

Soon after Imran began working for Wasserman Schultz in 2005, his two brothers and two of their wives — plus Abbas and another friend — began appearing as IT staffers on the payrolls of other House Democrats. Collectively, the Awan group has been paid $4 million since 2009.

Fellow IT staffers TheDCNF interviewed said the Awans were often absent from weekly meetings and email exchanges. One of the fellow staffers said some of the computers the Awans managed were being used to transfer data to an off-site server.
One of the many, many reasons you don't want to hire Indian or Pakistani IT guys. They can't even manage to correctly wipe their hard drives when desperately needed to do so.

The Pakistani ISI, favored conduit of both the GID and the CIA for decades, has probably done more to hamper anti-terrorism than anyone else (The Saudis putting up a stiff challenge, of course). Would not be remotely shocked if the Awans had connections to it.

When anyone starts babbling about how "American foreign policy is destabilizing the region", I just ask "Why does Pakistan exist in the first place?"

I hope that the idiots who thought of outsourcing IT to the third world one day realize how much damage have caused to civilization.

And I hope that they realize it by finding themselves on a life and death situation caused by their own stupidity.

Outsourcing of IT has caused not only the immediate destruction of lots of specialized jobs and the livelihood of lots of people who dedicated their lives to their careers, the same careers that now are worth nothing even though it is the most important field of work nowadays (everything, but the most basic stuff is 101% IT dependent and increasing)

Outsourcing has also erased on a single stroke the next generation of IT scientists and has compromised the IT industry.

Who would go into a line of work where you have to become an autist, a life of working out of hours, and almost never have any gratitude from anyone, to see your work shipped to some 3rd world country retard whose only skill is 90% of the time putting a good show.

They can't even manage to correctly wipe their hard drives when desperately needed to do so

This was my immediate thought. If they took the time to smash it then why didn't they take it to the dump to get rid of the pieces? Ideally they would go on a nature hike and find a lake or river to scatter the bits in to. Failing that they could have at least scattered pieces of the drives through their neighbors trash cans on trash day. Instead they just smashed them and left them laying around. I guess that is me assuming they didn't wait to smash them until the police were at the front door.

Wiping, smashing and distributing the pieces far and wide is the only correct solution. Much research has been done on recovering data from wiped disk fragments both electromagnetic and optical.

Of course wiping, smashing, and distributing the pieces is also the correct solution to the moslem issue.

Blogger GAHCindy July 26, 2017 8:11 AM

I assumed they hadn't destroyed the drives because they were using them to blackmail dws. Other staffers had been fired, if I recall correctly, while they were for some reason kept on. Absent blackmail, why would she even keep them? They thought they were safe as long as they kept her in their pocket because that's how it worked for the last eight years. They finally caught on that she wasn't that powerful or useful anymore and tried to run, but too late. That's the only explanation I can see for why they held onto the drives for so long. But I lack a lot of information, so who knows? Pop some popcorn!

If they can pick up magnetic data from a hard disk fragment I am impressed. I had thought distorting the disk would be enough. My view is that the Awan brothers developed Kompromat on house members, and used the leverage to get Kmopromat on others in a symbiotic relationship with DWS. They got her, then leveraged her to get others, and they shared what they got on others with her to cement her power. If DWS faced the choice of destruction (Kompromat on her) or power (Kompromat on others), which do you think she chooses?

That is how they ended up 'working' (no show jobs for friends and family) for so many Democrats, including several on the intel committees. The $4mm of fake salary is not the real story...the massive intel leak, and nature of the D's as a corrupt criminal organization is.

I still remember when it was illegal to distribute PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) outside the US, because that was considered critical munitions we didn't want other countries getting their hands on. That was impossible to stop, of course, and eventually they gave up on restricting it. But then they went all the way to the other extreme, outsourcing and/or importing foreigners to do that critical work. Here, unvetted citizen of another land, have full access to our secure files, won't you?

Anonymous Deplorablados July 26, 2017 9:11 AM

My guess is, the emails were leaked by Seth Rich, probably with the help and/or knowledge of someone else at the DNC...he most likely had that ONE confidant or helper (check for any gals who are murdered working for Starbucks in DC, ala Clinton years)...

Some IT guy at the DNC figured out who was leaking the emails, and somehow created confederate hash tags or signatures, markings, whatever, in Russian-to give the leaks the appearance of the interference or "hacking" as being the work of muh Russians. That's why they won't voluntarily give the FBI access to the server, because further imaging and analysis will reveal what actually happened.

It would take Oliver Stone, with a composite character that explains everything to an investigator, in detail, while they sit on a park bench on the Capitol Mall off Independence Ave--to hash out all the players and coincidences.

Blogger Cail Corishev July 26, 2017 10:03 AM

If they can pick up magnetic data from a hard disk fragment I am impressed.

They can. It's not easy or guaranteed 100% effective, but they have people who are trained to do just that. One thing that helps is that it's not unusual today to save data redundantly with RAID or something similar, so even if one disk/platter is destroyed, the data may be reconstructed from others. The same technologies that protect us from data loss in case of hardware failure make it easier for them to recover it.

And it is remarkable that people with potentially such damaging info would not go to more effort to get rid of it.

People in IT, even in security, can be just as thoughtless and sloppy as anyone else, and that goes triple for the imports. There's also the fact that these people are all too arrogant to expect to get caught.

Also, in IT we spend a lot more time worrying about losing files than still having them. And disk space is dirt cheap. So we keep extra copies, mirror drives, do remote backups, use systems like git that keep a record of all versions, etc., all to cut down on the chance of losing a file that it turns out we need. Nothing gets deleted for space considerations anymore. So even if someone tries to delete a bunch of files, there's a chance he won't get every copy.

For instance: A couple days ago, I remembered that I had started to write a story, maybe a couple years ago. I knew I just had a single paragraph, and I knew the theme, but I couldn't remember any specific phrases or where I saved it. So I started hunting through my files, trying different phrases and looking in different locations when an idea came to mind. Two days later (and thoroughly convinced that it's time for some housecleaning), I stumbled over it. But that file -- which I'd completely forgotten about -- is mirrored to three drives and backed up to at least two other locations. It may also be on some backups I used to make to DVD.

So no, there's nothing surprising about a guy moving out of an apartment and later thinking, "Holy crap, I left some old drives in that closet! What was on those again? Oh no....." Especially if he had ever thought he might want a private copy of some things for leverage.

On the broader topic of DoJ investigations: approximately 4,000 pedophile arrests have been made between January and June of this year 2017. Whereas in all of 2014 the number was only 400. Trump has repeatedly stated he wants the DoJ to focus on this, and he was tweeting about the problem since 2012 - that is 4 years before he took office. Sessions was directed by Trump to focus in this area back in 2016 -- it is a key reason why Trump nominated him. And Sessions has done so. He has made it his top priority. And THIS activity is a key reason for huge resistance coming from the deep state, because so many people in government are guilty.

Do you want to know more"? Just do searches on "Trump vs pedophiles" and "Sessions vs pedophiles".

Why is Trump now tweeting hostile anti-Sessions tweets? Because this makes the MSM defend Sessions, and the NeverTrumpers defend Sessions. This gives Sessions protections from Dems and the deep state, while drawing the fire onto Trump himself.

The only argument I have ever heard in favor of hiring IT people from India or Pakistan was cost. Supposedly, they are willing to do the same work for less money, but $4 million bucks does not sound very cheap to me. So that argument simply does not apply in this case.

I have been told for decades by American IT people that the el-cheapo types from India and Pakistan fail to rise to American standards....(isn't that a nice way of saying it?) So the question remains, why would important....very important....high profile American politicians (with high security clearances) outsource their most sensitive communications and files to foreign IT people?....especially when that technical assistance is sub par?

Is this part of a spy network? (I have seen this sort of thing before, but the culprits were Chinese nationals.) Is blackmail involved?....which could go in a hundred different directions.

Huh. Now that's interesting. Who knows what "FBI sources" are worth, but this seems to be a significant point:

"Journalist George Webb reported several weeks ago the Wasserman-linked computer hard drives had been seized as part of the Awan investigation. But there was never any mention the drives were physically altered. That would give additional credence to the FBI’s account that the drives were in good physical condition at the time of the seizure."

If the drives were smashed after being picked up, maybe it was because DWS was threatening the head of the capitol police?

She might have been blackmailing the capitol police in some way so they decided to smash the drives.

Meanwhile, maybe we can find out about Swedish immigrant stuff, at least from 2015 as well as their citizens.

Avoid Indians, hire cowboy coders.

Possible. It's also possible, depending in the nature of the connections between DWS, her cronies, and the capitol police, that the destruction of the hard drives was the intent of the raid all along. To DWS and associates, those hard drives in the hands of the Awans represented both potential evidence in any criminal case, and potent blackmail material. The Awans were running IT for what, 20 different Democratic Congressmen or so? And one of the articles on this claimed that a number of the computers involved were set up as "thin clients," with an off-site server. So they were getting a lot of data on the Dems.

I hear that in India they always wipe the hard drive with the left hand so they can still shake your hand with the right.

Somewhat related-- what do you CS/ IT types think about this one?

I just transferred a 100MB 7zip file five times from Texas to Canada (sorry, I don't currently own any Russian servers to test with). I got 19 MB/s once, and about 13 the other four times. So I'd tend to agree with them that 23 MB/s is unlikely for a remote transfer, especially if one of the servers was onsite at the DNC rather than at a datacenter with big pipes to the backbone as mine are. And especially especially if the server at the other end was on the other side of the world in Romania or Russia.

Besides, we know the Russian hacking thing was made up. We have their emails to show that they knew Hillary was vulnerable on the Russia/plutonium/bribes stuff, and that Podesta said to push the Trump/Putin connection to defang that attack. Then when they asked Crowdstrike to tell them where their leak was, Crowdstrike having no real idea pointed them at Russian hackers because that's what they wanted to hear and that's what Crowdstrike knows best, being founded by a Russian hacker.

It's freaking Russians and other foreign agents all the way down with these Democrats, which is why they've been gaslighting Americans about Trump/Russia all along. The original goal wasn't to pin anything on Trump; it was to keep people from asking questions about plutonium, or at least to make it so that if Trump brought that up, it would look like he was trying to take the heat off himself.

They should have dropped it after the election, but they stayed with it too long, and now it's coming back to bite them.

Francis Parker Yockey: "Exactly. Clearly, (((Blumenthal))) was just a tool of the Arabs, as was (((Sarkozy)))."

As was the British Prime minister, Cameron.

NATO, is essentially the tool of the US in Europe, that they managed to get a couple of European nations to fly sorties to provide 'legitimacy' doesn’t make much difference. Clinton ordered the destruction of Libya.

Did (((Blumenthal)) arrange it? And does that mean it was an Israeli plot? Could be. Blumenthal is pretty thick with the Saudis, tho. Come to that, so were the Clintons.

Let's have a look, Huma Abedin, Hillary Clinton's chief of Staff with connections to the Moslem Brotherhood. Imran Awan, running the DNC IT - Do we need Russia to account for the leaks now? - When threatened with Arrest, Awan attempts to flee to ..... Pakistan, but not Israel that's odd.

@49 " they were behaving just as foreign intelligence operatives would behave."

JUST like this?

ignificantly, Sheikh is also the man who, on the instructions of General Mahmoud Ahmed, the then head of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), wired $100,000 before the 9/11 attacks to Mohammed Atta,...
...
Ahmed, the paymaster for the hijackers, was actually in Washington on 9/11, and had a series of pre-9/11 top-level meetings in the White House, the Pentagon, the national security council, and with George Tenet, then head of the CIA, and Marc Grossman, the under-secretary of state for political affairs. When Ahmed was exposed by the Wall Street Journal as having sent the money to the hijackers, he was forced to "retire" by President Pervez Musharraf. ...

Of course, as always with anything 9/11 (or pick your govt conspiracy!), the problem is always sorting out true information from dis-information from just plain crazies. Not my investigation rabbit-hole in this life... I've seen enough to know "our" govt was involved somehow -- that's enough for me!

@64 "Thermite is reasonably effective as well, in both the above cases."

Or a directed-energy weapon?

Blogger Dirk Manly July 27, 2017 10:41 AM

Thermite is simple, cheap, reliable, and easy to make.

A directed energy weapon is large, bulky, expensive, and difficult to make.

"So I'd tend to agree with them that 23 MB/s is unlikely for a remote transfer, especially if one of the servers was onsite at the DNC rather than at a datacenter with big pipes to the backbone..."

Thanks. Does the forensicator's analysis of the file metadata in order to arrive at that figure seem legit?

"Besides, we know the Russian hacking thing was made up. Pretty much. It was more simple curiosity on my part, since it seemed like a solid analysis, but it goes beyond what I know of the field. Plus it pretty much means that "Guccifer 2.0," rather than being just a patsy, must have been an active participant in the whole thing-- something that I probably should have realized prior to this, but never really thought about. Of course, getting that deep into the weeds is often worthless rhetorically in opposing a narrative whose actual content amounts to "Russia bad. Trump-Russia. Russia-Trump. Trump bad." I just like to understand the background.

@APL

Very sad that you feel compelled to undermine the common values of Judeo-Islamic tradition in such an egregious fashion. You should be ashamed.
