1,354 pages free

I'm pleased to be able to inform everyone that both A THRONE OF BONES and A SEA OF SKULLS are free ebooks today on Amazon. That is a combined 1,354 pages of truly epic fantasy, and will cost you literally nothing except the hours required to read them.

A SEA OF SKULLS

In Selenoth, the war drums are beating throughout the land. The savage orcs of Hagahorn and Zoth Ommog are on the move, imperiling Man, Dwarf, and Elf alike. The Houses Martial of Amorr have gone to war with each other, pitting legion against legion, and family against family, as civil war wracks the disintegrating Empire. In the north, inhuman wolf-demons besiege the last redoubt of Man in the White Sea, while in Savondir, the royal house of de Mirid desperately prepares to defend the kingdom against an invading army that is larger than any it has ever faced before. And in the underground realm of the King of Iron Mountain, a strange new enemy has been attacking dwarf villages throughout the Underdeep.

Beneath the widespread violence that has seized all Selenoth in its grasp, a select few are beginning to recognize the appearance of a historic pattern of almost unimaginable proportions. Are all these conflicts involving Orc, Elf, Man, and Dwarf the natural result of inevitable rivalries, or are they little more than battlegrounds in an ancient war that began long before the dawn of time?

From the reviews:
  • "With this book, Vox Day has catapulted himself into the storied and rarefied rank of writers that sits just below The Master himself. That's right, I went there. I just said that Vox Day has written a book that is nearly as good as J. R. R. Tolkien's work."
  • "It is the best fantasy book of the past 50 years."
  • "As richly developed as its predecessor was, A Sea Of Skulls added many new dimensions to this world and the crisis it's in. All the positives I spoke of in my review of A Throne Of Bones, and more, were leveled up."
  • "Vox's Selenoth is amazing. I can hardly wait for more. I am a big-time Tolkien and George Martin fan. Vox's Selenoth has wiggled its way between Middle Earth and Westeros"
  • "Why did it take me so long to find Vox Day? What a great storyteller this man is, a grand master of multiverse chess."
As you may recall, A SEA OF SKULLS is a Finalist for Best Fantasy Novel in the 2017 Dragon Awards. If you find it sufficiently compelling, you may wish to vote for it here before August 28th.

Is this the full Sea of Skulls, or the still abridged version from before Christmas (iirc)?

The latter. For the Nth time, the Extended Edition will be out in December.

Blogger Sam Smith August 23, 2017 8:43 AM

@VD well looking forward to the extended edition. Loved Sea of Skulls but it did not have as much of a lot of the stuff about the greater supernatural powers involved as the first one.

Blogger Glenn Phillips August 23, 2017 8:55 AM

I have no idea when I'll have the time to read them, but thank you very much.

Blogger SemiSpook37 August 23, 2017 9:05 AM

Not big on fantasy, personally, but with both of these free and the fact that I come here to read you anyways, VD, I'm willing to give it a shot.

And I say this as someone who really wanted to give Tolkien a chance, but couldn't make it through the first ten pages of Fellowship without falling asleep.

You won't fall asleep in the first 10 pages of Sea of Skulls. You may not sleep afterward either.

You have to go back

Today is my lucky day. Thanks Vox!

Good to know. I'm already starting to like it.

Hardly. I WANT to get through the entirety of LOTR at some point in my life. Especially with the fact that Tolkien's a fellow Catholic. That's the frustrating part of all this.

@10 SemiSpook37, read it and report back your initial impressions.

Is this the full version now?

Anonymous burgmeister August 23, 2017 10:33 AM

I had to push _that_ button.

Anonymous Hezekiah Garrett August 23, 2017 10:40 AM

Thanks! I guess I'll give Kindle a shot for that nice price!

Both of these books are great. The heroes are heroic. The women act like women. The battles are tactically sound. I can hardly wait till Spring 2017 to find out how A Sea of Skulls ends.

Blogger 63worldseries August 23, 2017 12:30 PM

Throne was great. Can't wait to tear into Sea. Grazie tanto, Vox!

How very amusing. Very well. From now on, I'm officially adopting the id Software policy: It will be done when it is done.

That is the answer to all "when will X be published."

Awesome, I still plan to buy SOS: Director's Cut in hardback when it's available.

Blogger maniacprovost August 23, 2017 1:09 PM

I WANT to get through the entirety of LOTR at some point in my life.

At no point does LOTR become less boring. However, you may be able to enjoy deeper levels of meaning than you did the first time you tried to read it.

Anonymous logprof August 23, 2017 2:28 PM

Awesome, I have downloaded both! I accidentally opened Throne right away and it went to a cool map. . . I can't wait to read!

Blogger Beaversprings August 23, 2017 2:40 PM

I already have them both in hard bound but now I can also enjoy them on my kindle! Thank you!

Blogger Beaversprings August 23, 2017 2:44 PM

Oops! It's the Summa Elvetica and ATOB that I have in hard bound.

Last time I asked about it, someone said I should skip ahead to page 80 and start there. Really looking forward to appreciating that deeper meaning within the entire series.

Anonymous Gecko August 23, 2017 5:49 PM

Start with The Hobbit if you haven't already.

Anonymous Uncle Maffoo August 23, 2017 6:16 PM

Downloaded them both. Thank you, Vox.

Blogger Jaycephus August 23, 2017 7:26 PM

Thank you, got them, and looking forward to reading them.

Blogger Jew613 August 23, 2017 10:22 PM

Thank you Supreme Dark Lord, what are the chances of an audio version of ATOB/SOS?

Blogger Snidely Whiplash August 24, 2017 12:30 AM

Well, that's two days of my life gone. Not that I want them back, they were spent wisely and I derived good value.

But seriously, how long was that tunnel?

Thanks Vox.

I laughed, I cried. They were better than Cats...
