A battered woman, still whining

Instead of simply admitting that she was wrong when she erroneously claimed that a BBC propaganda piece aimed at children was "pretty accurate", UK "historian" Mary Beard is continuing to cry, and her supporters are continuing to move the goalposts as they attempt to salvage her tattered reputation.

Mary Beard@wmarybeard
It'sreally hard. & I am more battered than I seem.Just think I haven't been paid to research Rome for 40 yrs to sit and let this crap go by!

Professor Mary Beard, a renowned classicist.

Appeal to muh authority yay!

rhetoric accusing scholars and the BBC of “rewriting history” while simultaneously projecting contemporary notions of race backwards in time onto a society that didn’t share them.

The Romans didn't know what negroes were? I think they did.

the emperor Septimius Severus (himself in fact an African, from Libya)

Look at this fucking Dindu!

Her point, made patiently again and again, is that we don’t know the exact shade of his skin

Yet somehow we're confident he was black because Africa.

I'm more than a little horrified to think she was paid (by tax money?!) for 40 years and actually did not raise HELL when the BBC tried to sell this crap with her name associated with it!

After FORTY years of alleged "research," she really and truly thought there WAS such a miscegenated couple in Roman society!? And she really THOUGHT an Algerian was a negro?! Was she only researching in the Nation of Islam's library?!?

Double down, double down! I haven't been following closely, has she started projecting yet?! (Oh, and do I even care?!)

So much for the theory that exposure to the classics will innoculate students against liberalism. Still, Beard seems to have married an Anglo and produced children so she is fringe right by the standards of academia.

"The Celts" poster is nice and all but this needs to be brought to its logical conclusion: African Pilgrims landing at Plymouth Rock who later go on to slaughter the east coast natives and establish the original 13 colonies. Of course, those Africans later go on to import white European slaves to work their cotton fields. If history is fluid, let's get fluid.

People have lost the ability to ask for forgiveness, and be forgiven. In our society, you do one thing wrong (or "wrong"), and you're done — forever. Write one silly article when in high-school that may or may not be considered wrong-think in the current year, and you're done. This ignores even the basic psychology of people's personalities evolving, but more fundamentally, it is blind to the Christian concepts of sin, contrition, penance, restitution, forgiveness.

She cannot admit she was wrong, because there is no coming back from that. But because quite obviously she was wrong, she now has to pretend that black is white. Everybody on their team have to pretend. It's either that, or she would have to be thrown to the wolves. Which is why foot-soldiers stick to a set of politically correct slogans that have been pre-approved and vetted.

Even if Roman Britain was 'diverse' the Africans came with invading conquerors. Their presence is no excuse to import Africans now, unless Mary Beard wants more invading conquerors.

The problem is you can't challenge an academic in the classroom without facing the possibility of getting flunked. Those teaching become used to things being a one way street and they develop no context where their opinions encounter friction. When they venture out of the classroom they're wholly unprepared for the shift.

The author is more than stretching with a mention to the meadows. The sagas are pretty clear they were under constant attack by goblins and whomever was left, left quickly. Not sure how many ancient peoples procreated with goblins although it makes sense if the norse of 1000ad were actually fat middle aged austrian women from the future. Sounds like a good episode for Dr lesbian spinster Who.

This is why the notion that we live in a male-dominated patriarchy is laughable. This completely and totally describes the crab basket effect, not anything that men would build.

This makes me wonder how long the post-modernist rot has lingered in History as an academic subject. Do 'classicists' like Beard really believe this crap, or are they willfully lying?

Oh wait, Vox already explained this in great detail:
1. SJWs always lie
2. SJWs always project ("The theme uniting all these efforts is rhetoric accusing scholars and the BBC of “rewriting history” while simultaneously projecting contemporary notions of race backwards in time onto a society that didn’t share them.")
3. Any critisism is automatically abuse and misogyny.

The good thing about this is, the more exposure this absurdity gets, the less likely they are to convince anyone not already invested in the SJW-academia cult.

Yes, unfortunately academia has become so corrupted and converged that anything written in the last century (plus?) is automatically suspect. Almost everybody who has gotten a "good history education" (and many other areas) over that time has just absorbed a heaping helping of false (anti-white, anti-male) propaganda.

But little by little that is being remediated by the alt-education movement that is being forged.

Browsing through Othello, I see how a black African was described by Shakespeare. It was a striking and extremely unusual event to have a black African in the military. No doubt was left that he was black and thick-lipped. All shrank from the image of the "Black ram tupping the white ewe".
And this was not in Britain but in the Cyprus wars.
Shakespeare would not have ignored the presence of black soldiers in Britain. He would have used it in his plays.
In fact, he went to great lengths in Othello to explain how such a wonder could have happened, hardly the way he would have treated a "Moore's" presence were it an ordinary matter.

One of the better Andy Griffith Show episodes was about the historic "Battle of Mayberry." Everyone in town claims to have a distant relative who was a participant in the battle. Not surprisingly, each distant relative was a Colonel and was the hero of the battle.

Opie investigates and discovers that, alas, there was no battle. A bunch of Indians and settlers got together for a drunkfest and made the whole thing up.

I do not mind Wimmin acting like wimmin. I actually enjoy it. I do not even mind when they form their own little sewing circles to gossip and play matchmaker with the younger girls... which is their passion. Just a continuation of the "paper dolls" thing.

What I mind very much is their demands to remove All Things Male. They do not want to see us or hear us or smell us. They despise anything that appears to be Male and most especially anything that reminds them of a Male Society...which we are not permitted. It is offensive, and threatening, and coarse, and rude, and cruel....all at the same time.

Back in the Bad Old Days, which I remember well, this was easily remedied by Separation. Growing up in the South, there was a great deal of gender segregation, even within families. The extended family would meet often on Sunday afternoons or holidays. The Men would associate separately from the Wimmin. Weather permitting, the Men would collect outside. The Wimmin would gather around the kitchen table. The children were also separated. Girls in the kitchen and boys would learn how to be around The Men. The only exception was infants and toddlers, but once the boy toddlers were no longer "cute", they had to go be with the Men. Often, the Men ate together (quickly) to make way for the Wimmin to eat. Nobody minded being segregated, some even insisted on it. But this is now considered Patriarchy for Men to have their own society.

The Wimmin believe that Matriarchy will last, once it is the only society remaining. Do away with All Things Male and Matriarchy will be the only one remaining.
