The SJW media and the NFL

I appeared on Cernovich Media last night discussing the connection between SJWs in the media and the NFL protests.

If you'd like to skip ahead to my appearance, you can click here. Cernovich Media is absolutely killing it on Facebook video; clearly we're going to have to get rolling with that for Voxiversity and Alt-Hero. Anyhow, my thesis is that it is the media that is primarily responsible for this, not the players, due to the way in which they have tirelessly advocated the cause of Colin Kaepernick's employment for the last year.

Instead of addressing the anthem protest issue directly last year by disciplining Kaepernick, NFL thought it would go away once the ex-49er quarterback was out of the league. And they probably would have been right, were it not for the media SJWs taking up the cause of Kaepernick's non-employment as some sort of holy crusade to atone for their having missed the grand campaign for a starting black Super Bowl-winning quarterback of the 1970s and 1980s.

And if you haven't signed up for the Daily Meme Wars yet, you're missing out. Don't do that.

I'm beginning to suspect this whole Kneeling Affair is starting to feel like a conspiracy by the NFL to produce revenue for media outlets. And to give the Donald's base some goodfeelz.

I don't watch ESPN or tune into games much at all. Do they even bother showing highlights anymore, or is it all about the kneeling? Do they do play-by-play anymore, or are the announcers stuck on what happened before the game? With breathless updates on people's reactions to the anthem-antics, and reactions to the reactions, and so forth.

The NFL's Xanatos Gambit involves creating a new league when professional football falls. This one will feature players of different groups--racial, or whatever--and they'll play different songs with different meanings. The sides will wager on whether their opponents will stand reverently, kneel, lock arms, or do the black power salute. Or whatever.

Maybe it'll just be pageants of black people disapproving of various things. Symbols of (white) American history, country music, gun laws, hygiene, sexual continence, etc.

I was reminded yesterday that Kaepernick originally just sat on the bench like Marshawn Lynch has been doing for a few years. He wasn't hunting around for a "stage" at the time, just quietly abstaining. The media noticed and asked him about it, he explained his reasons, and it was off and running.

I wonder if they never asked Lynch because he treats them like crap the way they deserve, or if they did ask and he told them to piss off.

You have to choose. "Moderation" is now rightly viewed as choosing to side with the enemy. Choose wisely.

Anonymous Critically Bent September 26, 2017 7:55 AM

I've finally realized why this is striking such a nerve for people.

The playing of the national anthem before a sporting event is NOT the same as the playing of it on the medal stand at the Olympics. We play the national anthem not to honor the flag or the military or any of that stuff. We play it as a sign of UNITY among the competitors and fans.

We all stand up and put our hands over our hearts and remember that even though we'll be at each others' throats for the next three hours of the competition, afterward, we'll all go right back to being Americans, fighting together against everybody else.

When somebody kneels during the anthem it is an act of DISUNITY, a sort of soft declaration of civil war. A kneeler is saying, "I'm not one of you, and I don't want to be one of you. I want you all to know that I'm not part of your nation."

This of course is actually true for the NFL protestors. That's because the USA is now made up of many, many nations. There's Black America, Aztlan, Ameristan, Shitlib America, MAGAmerica, a bunch of little Indian tribes, the (((12 Tribes))), and all the different kinds of Yellow America in their different little pockets.

MAGAmerica is the closest thing left to traditional America, and all the other nations in our geographic landmass have sneakily been fighting a civil war against it for years, especially Shitlib America.

Now that the rats have gotten the balls to actually take a stand (hehehe) and declare their hostility openly, MAGAmerica is pissed. We've finally started waking up to the realities of this Civil War 2.0. As much as it pains me to say it, nothing appears to be sacred, not even football. Everything and everywhere are battlegrounds for this war.

Doug Williams isn't black. He won a Super Bowl.

Warren Moon and Steve McNair weren't black, either, because they should have won Super Bowls. Rodney Harrison didn't even know Kaepernick was "mixed" until the title-losing QB sat down on the job.

That's how it works in Narrativedome. Two truths enter, one lie leaves.

It is such a classic by-the-numbers example. Just like the game media... espn starts hiring for diversity and ends up with a bunch of people who don't actually care about sports or know much about sports... like jemele hill.

They dont know sports or care about sports so they never write about sports or talk about sports. They write and talk about what they do care about.. which is social justice bullshit.

which of course ESPN's customers... even the liberal ones... hate.

And so ESPN dies. Suicide by diversity.

So they are being used as tools. That is on them, they are grown men. What else is new, too? The entire point of BLM, its one and only point, was to motivate blacks to get out and vote for Hillary.

Why do blacks not see how clearly and obviously they are being played? Don't know. Also, could not care less because there is nothing I can do about it. They have to take responsibility for themselves, ultimately.

Part of the problem for the NFL is that they've gone so all-in on patriotism, with the 100-yard flags, military jet flyovers, tie-ins with veterans' charities, etc. They've openly used the flag and images of military and law enforcement to sell their product. Pat Tillman Pat Tillman Pat Tillman. Watching the NFL and buying branded merchandise is the most patriotic thing you can do, next to enlisting.

When they say it's okay for their own most prominent employees to take a pass on all that, it shows the whole thing for the scam it is. If you already understood it was marketing fluff, you're not surprised, and probably not that offended. But many fans actually bought into it, so they feel betrayed.

And the sports media was all-in for that marketing campaign too, despite the media generally being anti-military and anti-patriotism otherwise. It was making everyone too much money. So to watch them cannibalizing their own creation now is fun. Pro football will be fine (assuming CTE doesn't kill it), so I don't mind seeing the beast knocked down a few pegs.

Exactly right.

Blogger Cail Corishev September 26, 2017 9:32 AM

We play it as a sign of UNITY among the competitors and fans.

Right. We're a pretty cynical and jaded lot here. Most of us probably hear the anthem and figure it's time to run for a beer. But a lot of people out there really do get a little lump in their throat and feel especially "American" at that moment. To them, simply standing for the anthem -- you don't have to sing, and you can think whatever you want, just stand with everyone else -- is the bare minimum of your obligation as an American.

That's the civic nationalism that still exists from when it was mostly manufactured in the WWII era, and a lot of people still hold to it. I've argued that America is not a nation, but the anger over this reflects the extent to which civic nationalism still works. The more this is exposed as a divide on racial lines, the more it may become actual nationalism.

One of the reasons the league is playing along with BLM is several of the ownership and their families still hold a grudge against Trump over the USFL. Granted, there have been four teams added since then and a few more teams have had complete changes of ownership since then, but the bad blood is still there.
This is the way they can tell Trump off.
The real test is will be after pinktober, when the pink ribbon gives way to the camo ribbon and ''support the troops'', the November theme.

We have been here before. At the Mexico City Olympics of 1968, gold and bronze medal-winning sprinters Tommie Smith and John Carlos each raised a black-gloved fist as a sign of solidarity with Black America, and not the nation they were sent to represent.

A month later, America elected Richard Nixon.

In terms of fame and fortune, no professions have proven more rewarding for young black American males than the NFL and the NBA.

Whether they soil their nest is, in the last analysis, up to them.

The whole NFL-anthem thing would never have been a thing if media outlets, and ESPN in particular, had simply never mentioned Kaepernick. He's not standing for the anthem? Fine. Don't put a camera on him. If you must mention his protest, do so in the last paragraph or two of a long article about the game: "The game started with a note of protest from second-string quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who sat down for the national anthem in a show of solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. The act drew little attention from Kaepernick's teammates or the crowd. Kaepernick continued sitting for the remainder of the day, as he saw no action on the field."

Had the media mostly ignored Kaepernick in this manner, the NFL ratings would be 20-30% higher right now than they are, and the stock of NFL broadcasters would probably be a fair bit higher. The league could have killed this political nonsense in the bud, but the league and players alike got bullied into taking stands (or knees, or locked arms, or whatever) by media outlets that aren't actually interested in reporting about sports anymore. Even so, the league could have put pressure on ESPN--"Look, either kill this BLM protest crap before it blows up in all our faces, or else be prepared to lose most of your games next time broadcast contract rights are up for grabs." ESPN would have fallen in line as fast as players suspended without pay would have.

But, no, instead the league has tried to line itself up against Trump, even though NFL viewers skew toward Trump voters. This doesn't end well for football. It will end well for Trump.

On the other hand, some of the owners have vacationed at his mansion in Florida. Some of them have more power than others, though.

I've seen a theory (from someone claiming to be an NFL insider, but no way to confirm that) that the league has plans for some hard-left activism at the Super Bowl, so that's why they're not backing down now, to soften the fans up for something worse then. This is very true. Disney's movie, animation, and parks businesses are all money makers, but cable TV is just a massive slice of it for so long. They'll divest ESPN before it drags down the companies performance too heavily, and expect some big cost cutting before that happens. The Mouse doesn't like to lose money on properties, it's pretty solid bet that ESPN will feel the weight of the 800-lb Mouse on it's back before they sell the former cash cow.

Contrary to Nate's assertions yesterday, this data suggests that the biggest contributor to Americans watching less football than last year (51% of Americans) is the politics.

Polls are fake news

I've seen a theory (from someone claiming to be an NFL insider, but no way to confirm that) that the league has plans for some hard-left activism at the Super Bowl, so that's why they're not backing down now, to soften the fans up for something worse then. I dunno. If that's true, we should start to see the outlines of it in a month or two when they start announcing the entertainment.

SJWADD... even if it means shooting yourself in the head to rub white people's faces in Marxism. /smh

In terms of fame and fortune, no professions have proven more rewarding for young black American males than the NFL and the NBA.

Whether they soil their nest is, in the last analysis, up to them.

@51 Lazarus
Ha. Black people have absolutely no understanding of "consequences for one's actions".

In the same way Arabs are "amoral familists", blacks are "amoral racialists".

"In a sense, that we didn’t ask for that. We were thrown into this by some comments outside of the business and the sport of football."

Yeah, it's not like this has been going on for over a year. It's not like pictures of disabled veterans with captions like "He can't stand for the flag anymore because he fought for your right to" have been showing up on my social media friends' feeds since last fall. It's not like many people are convinced that the entire league is blackballing Kaepernick over it.

All of a sudden someone from outside the sport said something and presto, it became a thing! Who could have predicted that people would react badly to athletes who are tied into numerous military and veterans organizations refusing to stand for the flag? It's a shocker, really.

Blogger Cail Corishev September 26, 2017 1:37 PM

wants the fans to drop the politics, and bring it back to football!

Yep. And maybe he personally never asked for any of this, so I'll have a tiny bit of sympathy. But the league did. The league let it go on, which means the league approved of it, because the league quashes any display that doesn't fit perfectly into its brand. The teammates of the kneeling/sitting players let it go on too. And Sunday they all preached unity from the same playbook. Well, if you're all united in one united front of united unity, you can't blame people for treating you as such.

Whoops, where'd that sympathy go.

Now leftists are saying that patriotism is for white people. (They've always said that, but now people are hearing them say it.) Please don't throw our president in that briar patch!

Now leftists are saying that patriotism is for white people.

Wait, I thought dissent was patriotism so any color could play.

One I saw was a tweet from The Root, so you might find it there if they haven't deleted it.

RACISSSSSSS MEME!

Blogger Desdichado September 26, 2017 2:52 PM

Yeah, found the Root. Actually, it looks like a bunch of people are saying it, either that or lots of people are rebroadcasting the same article.

Insane. And there are still people who think Trump has no tactical mindset at all.

Have to revisit those player morality clauses - but if rape and murder don't count, can't see how taking a knee would.

Anonymous Pennywise September 26, 2017 4:36 PM

The NFL is going to be more than fine despite the handwringing by the Alt Right. Political activism has little to do with "SJW convergence" and more with how athletes and owners exercise their personal liberties on topics that are important to them. The only thing manufactured is the outrage by Trump to appease his base. Had he owned a team, he wouldn't be firing anyone.

Superb first(?) appearance on Cernovich Media, Vox. How you've boiled down and condensed your explanation of SJW convergence is masterful. It couldn't be more clear and concise. The "burrow" comment was perfect.
