TITHE TO TARTARUS

Inflicted with amnesia, Yumiko Ume Moth has managed to discover the identity of the lost love she cannot remember. She has also learned the bitter truth of her mother's murder. And the party responsible for the absence of the one and the death of the other is the same: the Supreme Council of Anarchists.

Now Yumiko hopes to rescue the brilliant young man who may or may not be her fiance while seeking vengeance for the Grail Queen, her mother. But her only allies are a scatter-brained fairy and the Last Crusade, which despite its grand name consists of a young knight and his dog. Nevertheless, the Foxmaiden will not turn from her path, though all the dark forces of Tartarus stand in her way.

TITHE TO TARTARUS: The Dark Avenger's Sidekick book three is the 6th volume of Moth & Cobweb.

John C. Wright is one of the living grandmasters of science fiction and the author of THE GOLDEN AGE, AWAKE IN THE NIGHT LAND, and IRON CHAMBER OF MEMORY, to name just three of his exceptional books. He has been nominated for both the Nebula and Hugo Awards, and his novel SOMEWHITHER won the 2016 Dragon Award for Best Science Fiction Novel at Dragoncon. The first book in the Moth & Cobweb series, SWAN KNIGHT'S SON, was a finalist for the 2017 Dragon Award for Best Young Adult Novel.

Those of you who have Amazon Prime may be interested to know that all six books of the Moth & Cobweb series are now available on Kindle Unlimited.

One of the best parts of VP is that Christmas comes numerous times a year around here...

Saw this on the Meme Wars email and immediately purchased.

Looking forward to the hardcover coming out.

That is a superb front cover.

Another great job by Scott Vigil. Just wait until you see the omnibus: he gave us a painting that will wrap around to the back.

I should mention that the DARK AVENGER'S SIDEKICK hardcover will feature this cover.

Take my money!

Moth & Cobweb. May it never end. Wright is pumping out some great work. Establishing his legacy right now.

Thanks for the freebie, but I really don't understand this freebie stuff. It seems to be way over-used. Has anyone looked at the numbers on this? My guess is 90% of the people taking advantage of this are people who go there to buy it.

You don't need Amazon Prime to use Kindle Unlimited.

VD, Out of curiosity, does KU KPD Select pay the author/publisher very well with the per page royalty compared to the normal royalty from the regular purchase price. I'm going to be putting a book up very soon and was leaning on just using KDP rather than Select.

I'll pay full price for Mr Wright even though I don't have to as I love his books.

It's been a while since I've read the last episode, but is that "Grail Queen" bit a massive spoiler? Regardless, always excited for another JCW offering.

Blogger tweell September 18, 2017 11:48 AM

Is there a hardbound planned? Most of the time, I'll buy digital, but John Wright's works merit better IMHO.

Bought!

Yes. We'll be publishing an omnibus of each of the four series:

1-3: The Green Knight's Squire

4-6: The Dark Avenger's Sidekick

7-9: The Mad Scientist's Intern

10-12: The Ghostly Father's Novice

Blogger Jon D. September 18, 2017 12:25 PM

Good to hear Matthew. I can't wait for the hardcover.

Jon Del Arroz here -- I've read books 1-3 and have to say this is some of the best fantasy work possibly of all time. It's up there with C.S. Lewis both thematically and in terms of depth. You want to make a difference in culture, this is the title and John C. Wright author to support.

This cover is probably Castalia's best yet btw. You guys are killing it!

Swan Knight's Squire was pretty good, but Dark Avenger's Sidekick has been even better so far. Already bought, looking forward to reading it tonight.

@Orville (great name)

Kindle Unlimited does pay authors. I don't know how it compares with sales, but many of us indie authors find that we get about a 1/3 of our money from KU.

Blogger Orville September 18, 2017 2:04 PM

Thanks for that Mrs. Wright. I do like some of the promotional features in Select, and have been noticing the fund and per page rate seems to be going up over time, and it's not in my plans to use other publishing sites so being locked into Amazon isn't a big deal to me. I had heard from some authors that switching out of select messed with the ratings of their books.

Blogger VD September 18, 2017 2:05 PM

Out of curiosity, does KU KPD Select pay the author/publisher very well with the per page royalty compared to the normal royalty from the regular purchase price.

It depends. For a normal book that sells at $4.99, you need 811 KENP page reads for KU to break even with one KDP sale. So, the average KU book read is worth about one-quarter a KDP sale to the average author.

Blogger VD September 18, 2017 2:05 PM

have been noticing the fund and per page rate seems to be going up over time

That is incorrect. The per page rate has fallen from .006 per page to not much above .004.

Blogger Orville September 18, 2017 2:15 PM

And am I correct that it is now actual pages read, and not just downloading the book? VD if you were starting all over and self-publishing, would you use Select?

Blogger VD September 18, 2017 2:36 PM

Yes. It's more important for people to discover you than to maximize your per-page earnings.

Purchased. Read. Enjoyed. Reviewed. Put off existing commitments by 5 hours.

VD, I appreciate your taking the time to answer that. Thanks!

No, that revelation actually comes at the end of Book 5. So it's a spoiler only if you haven't made it to City of Corpses yet.

In bed on phone - will buy in the morning.

Thanks CH and John Wright.

@slarrow

Thanks. Memory returned to me. I'm amazed I forgot such a powerful scene. I'll have to re-read it.

Very cool. Just discovering Wright.
