Another manufactured controversy

Texans owner Bob McNair demonstrates why everyone - everyone - needs to read SJWAL and SJWADD:
Doesn’t matter if it was said in private or misconstrued, there are things NFL owners can’t touch. And most of them won’t need this memo—any parallel between their workforce and prisoners is one.

It’s been 10 days now since a small group of players met with 11 NFL owners in New York City and, as we reported back then, the general tenor coming out of the summit was that there was cautious optimism that progress had been made on what remained a very fragile and sensitive situation.

On Friday, that optimism seemed to go out the window, and we saw just how fragile and sensitive this situation is.

Early that morning ESPN posted a story by Don Van Natta and Seth Wickersham on the aforementioned meetings. It was a balanced, detailed and rich piece, reflecting the progress made, as well as the divide in attitude among various factions of owners. One anecdote, however, stood out, and created an immediate firestorm.

“We can’t have the inmates running the prison,” Texans owner Bob McNair said, according to the reporting of Van Natta and Wickersham (we’ve independently confirmed it), during a debate over the impact the player protests were having on NFL and team business. Later on Friday morning, McNair released a statement apologizing for using the expression.

In the statement, McNair said, “I never meant to offend anyone, and I was not referring to our players.” Sources said McNair displayed some anger over the league office’s handling of the matter in the meeting, in addition to making the comments he did about the players.
Needless to say, the media quickly fanned the situation into open flames and the precious snowflakes that presently pass for NFL players promptly melted down, as if on command:
The Texans will show up for their game in Seattle on Sunday, but if NFL contracts were guaranteed, Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman predicts Houston players would stay home.

“Oh, yeah, those guys would probably sit this game out,” Sherman said, via Gregg Bell of The News Tribune.

Texans owner Bob McNair apologized after his comment about not having “inmates running the prison” was published by ESPN The Magazine.

“I appreciate when people like that show who they really are,” Sherman said. “More people in the world have to be that kind and that open about how they really feel so you can identify them — and make sure you stay away from those kind of people, and keep those people out of power.

“But, you know, of course they have to sit back and apologize, because it’s politically correct to apologize. But eventually you have take people for their word and for who they are. For most players, even when once we apologize they still take what we said and judge us by it. So you should do the same with him.”
What part of "never apologize under pressure" is hard to understand. An apology is always - ALWAYS - taken as a confession. It does not, and will never, resolve the situation, it will only make it worse. That's why SJWs and the media - but I repeat myself - always press hard for an apology from the start. It is the guilty verdict that permits them to move on from the prosecution to punishment.

I can't wait until the day the SJWs turn on the players, making them apologize for all sorts of comments they make in the heat of battle.

To be fair he has enough felons on his team that he could make a good judgement on the matter.

I watched the 3rd game of the World Series last night. Houston, emotional favorite because hurricane, won. What I appreciated was the national anthem sang by an air force sergeant and the reaction of the players. Every player I saw, both teams, were lined up in near military order, at attention, with their caps over their hearts. One player briefly crossed himself, obviously a Catholic. What a refreshing change from the NFL.

I STAND WITH THE BASEBALL PLAYERS THERE LAST NIGHT!

Blogger Jack Ward October 28, 2017 10:25 AM

Add to the above. I think it would wonderful rhetoric for the commissioner of baseball to issue an memo directed to all the NFL players thanking them for making baseball, again, America's number one game.

Anonymous bearspaw October 28, 2017 10:26 AM

That is why a common phrase was seized upon and made to be such a big issue. The truth stings and even though the metaphor wasn't meant to be literal most of them ,being prisoners at one time, felt like it was.

As for the situation. Don't apologize and any acting out by his own players should be rigorously punished. If other teams start targeting his players he should be making strong statements about lack of discipline and leadership coming out of the commissioners office.

Of course, he has already apologized which suggests he is too much of a cuck to actually fight.

Anonymous Cinco October 28, 2017 10:44 AM

McNair's comment was ill considered

It really wasn't. It's a common analogy for any manager to use when his subordinates usurp his authority. This is pure virtue signaling by the media and NFL players association, nothing more. This owner would have been better off saying (instead of apologizing) that constitutional rights to free speech do not apply to my employees, I wouldn't tolerate them burning the flag at my office and I wont tolerate them kneeling for the anthem.

Really they (the owners) are just emasculated cowards who want to ensure they keep getting invited to the same old social outings...

Apologizing was buying into the lie that what he said wasn't literally accurate rather than merely rhetorical. Anytime you buy into someone else's lie, you become the first sucker on the menu for the cannibalistic feast of evil. The more obvious the lie is, the more softheaded you are, and you're therefore some of the most tender meat, putting you on the appetizer list.

The owner should have said, "We can't have the babies running the daycare." Or better yet..."We can't have unpatriotic souls running America's greatest past-time."

So how long before someone creates another football league in which the games are virtual, the new players are created/drafted? Hardly any overhead with facilities and operations, no BS dealing with whiny players. This would still allow for betting and fantasy.

Anonymous Rocklea October 28, 2017 10:54 AM

What he should said when apologising was,

"Oh yeah, you're right. What I meant to say was, the inmates are running the asylum. I'm always screwing up idioms. Please forgive me."

When SJW's are offended by something you say, double down.

Blogger Zaklog the Great October 28, 2017 10:55 AM

Of course, given NFL players' tendency to commit minor and major crimes, the analogy was not that far off base.

And they've got a legion of SJW allies in the press doting on them, too. Just the day before yesterday I read an article about the declining NFL ratings and wretched SJW reporter actually blamed the decline on the failure of anybody to hire Colin Kaepernick. Can you believe how shameless and single-mindedly driven these SJWs are?

That NFL has simply become a toxic tornado and a fever swamp, and it's not turning around. Far from it, they are coddling these evil bastards with grants of security and empowerment, when what they should be doing is ripping them up and out wholesale. The league may already be destroyed, and the owners are clueless.

As the players become more emboldened, and the owners more meek, the league will devour itself. This is already well along. Funny how all these billionaires are so ignorant of negro psychology. Very similar to how negroes burn down their own neighborhoods when rioting. And just like Detroit never being rebuilt after the 60's riots, the NFL will never recover from this episode of insanity. Every day the league will bleed out a little more, become a little less solvent; some days they will have huge hemorrhages of fans.

If this owner comment actually gets traction it will be supremely stupid of the players. I mean hey, just how important is it what that guy thinks? Not much. What the players could do, if they had half a brain, would be to put out a statement along the lines of, "We play for the fans and our teammates, not the owners of the teams," and then move on. I mean nobody likes being dissed, but is it worth ruining a career over a random comment like this from a single owner? Well who is to know, maybe their thinking does not rise to the level necessary to figure this stuff out.

I am reminded of the comment from a movie producer that when around when the actor run United Artists was started. "The lunatics are taking over the asylum." Following the comment there was not great fuss in the acting community, proving that even actors are more clever than NFL football players.

As long as SOME of the NFL players continue to nit-pick comments by ANY of the team owners, it means that the NFL players are having too much fun and do not want the ride to stop. (The team owner is correct. The tail does not wag the dog.)

Take your pen and put it in your pocket. Tell them to call when they are of ONE MIND on resolving the situation. Let the NFL players discuss it like gentlemen in the locker room and they will select someone (rational) to do the talking. Those who want the NFL to be destroyed over their race protest will leave in disgust. Life will return to normal.... playing football.

(Playing pro-football must be a frightful bore after a few years, that they would risk it all and the league for a distraction before the games.)

No....what was ill considered was the Media decision to make a big deal out of a casual remark. We saw the same thing with General Kelly's remark about "empty barrels making the most noise". It shows they are uninterested in a solution. They are having too much fun. They want to prove to the world that their employers are all racists and do not deserve to be team owners. Any opponent must be a racist, because it is the only card they have to play...and these days it does not trump anything. So go ahead a play it anyway.

I honestly just don't get it.

It's called convergence. The NFL team owners are cloud people - mostly SJWs. They never learn. They only double-down, triple-down, quintuple-down. It's lost - get over it. Let it burn.

Speaking of doubling-down, looks like the Southern Baptists have gone full cuck-retard. It's been what - about 15 years now? - since this cucked branch of churchianity apologized for slavery, something not outlawed even in the bible? Now, even not wanting to bow down before the exterminate whitey agenda is a sin. Judeo-Christ and St. Martin Lootah Kangz say so.

At the end of the day, the few actual Christians remaining have little more than what amounts to a 'No True Scotsman' defense of organized Christianity left. Neither Protestant (see above), Catholic (Hi-Fellatin' Franny), or Orthodox (crunchy-cuck) is immune. One has to go back at least three centuries - maybe even more - to find anything in the west that wasn't already infected with the soul-eating virus. Looks like someone needs to hand out some more gasoline.

This is so delicious. ESPiN's balanced, detailed, and rich piece has now completely fallen by the wayside due to one offhand remark by an owner. Drunk drivers, druggies, wife-beaters, rapists- but as always, SJW's are cool with everything, even the stuff they claim to hate and fight, as long as you tow the party line of the moment. The only thing I wonder is, after this BS settles down, will they shift back to pretending to care about athletes' female victims, and if so, will the black offenders get a pass on rape or wife-beating as a reward for being good little race-baiters? It's a great way for the "intersectional" crowd to portray whites male athletes as both racists and rapists, while ignoring all reality of course.
