Deck the walls

$45.00
Add-On: Three-Poster Set

This is to receive a three-poster set that will consist of the backer’s choices of a) the map of the city of Avalon, b) the logo poster, c) the logo poster featuring various characters, d) Rebel Poster #1, e) Dynamique Poster #1, or d) Posters to be named later, but which likely include alternate Rebel and Dynamique posters at a bare minimum. All posters are 17″ x 21″. Most posters will be vertically oriented; the map poster will most likely be horizontal. Shipping is included.

The Alt★Hero campaign continues to advance. I just answered some questions for a large conservative site, so awareness of the series is beginning to percolate into the conservative media.

If you want to revise your backing, just email Freestartr support and tell them exactly what you want to do. This all gets sorted out when the campaign ends, so don't worry if your precise combination of things you want are not available on a single Reward or Add-on. This is just part of life on the leading edge.

They are cumulative, yes.

I hyped Alt-Hero in an LRC article, too, hope it helped.

Rebel and Dynamique...at a bare minimum.

You are making great progress on the face. As D&C points out, the female characters in the SJWMarvel books are all drawn the same - androgynous and anonymous. Whereas DC appears to at least be able to suggest that they are female, they're not great on faces anymore. Characters need faces.

Blogger maniacprovost October 18, 2017 2:13 PM

Question, when will the chubby computer hacker genius girl character be revealed? And what shade of neon will her pixie cut / quirky pig tails be?

Blogger maniacprovost October 18, 2017 2:14 PM

Characters need faces.

Recognizable faces are a waste of resources. Manga proved that characters don't even need noses. Just give them all a different hair color and costume gimmick so we can tell them apart.

The art so far is good and I haven't seen any of the artists takes so far for pretty much all the characters. The only thing I have definitively hated is rebels mask which frankly is saying something given how horrendous comic art and design has gotten.

Anonymous WaterBoy October 18, 2017 2:44 PM

Coincidentally, the poster set contains double-D options....

I need one of those updated "you are here" timelines for Alt Hero. We are way past "Alt Hero will never get funded" and somewhere before "Alt Hero will never be sold in comic shops".

To each his own, I guess. This is vastly superior to the Mustang pic in pretty much every way. That one looked like a doodle someone just scratched off.

"Manga proved that characters don't even need noses."

No, it proved the Japanese comics/animation industry is both A) Incredibly pressed for time and B) Incredibly lazy and looking to cut corners. The generic, baseline Anime art style is fucking horrible and wretched and its intrusion into the west needs to fucking die, and fuck you for suggesting the standards for this comic should drop so low. I mean, for fuck's sake, an art teacher at my old college got so fed up with all of his hack students drawing in the very same baseline manga/anime style that he had to fucking ban them from doing so and docked off points if those quislings did.

She definitely looks more Southern in this rendering than the others I've seen (e.g. big eyes, angular but feminine jaw, upturned nose).

Ergo, and of course, superior.

But manga is the result from the intrusion of western art in Japanese culture, specifically Disney, specifically Bambi.

It has proved absolutely nothing of the sort. In fact, it's been quite the opposite—complaints about the Japanification of comic book art are ubiquitous, because we're not freakin' Japan.

Yeah, and Bambi (and pretty much most early Disney cartoons) looks like fucking DaVinci compared to the GENERIC, BASELINE anime style. Fuck, Miyazaki, rightly said to be the Disney of the anime field looks like fucking DaVinci to most manga/anime. I'm not talking about the BETTER talent in that field, I'm talking about the kind of absurd, ridiculous minimalism that is the GENERIC, BASELINE of manga/anime. The kind of things that screams overworked, underpaid, lazy, and cutting corners every bit as much as the fact that most manga companies are so cheap, most of their works are in fucking black and white and it costs an arm and a leg to get trade paperback equivalents of with actual fucking color in every panel. Yet, for some reason, baka gaijin hold this baseline style as though it were anything else but the product of mediocrity at best and abject horribleness at worse.

Implying that I don't think Marvel needs to die for their horrible descent into bad art too?

Or are you implying that I don't like joke characters of which there are plenty in manga/anime, because I'll say straight up: I love joke characters whether they're in anime/manga or Western comics. I may disagree when they're appropriate to use or not or how much of the spotlight they should get, but I have no necessary intellectual qualmas with, say, Arale beating the shit out of Vegeta for shits and giggles anymore than I have an issue with Squirrel Girl somehow beating Thanos, a verifiable low multi-solar system buster at least, off panel for the same purposes.

Implying nothing about you, but that Marvel doesn't reach the level of artistry present in their generic anime redesigns of their characters designed to sell to the Japanese.

I know the really high backer levels are getting the ebook free in the bargain (which isn't mentioned in the list), but does this extend to the posters or any other add-ons?

Anonymous Planter October 18, 2017 5:14 PM

I feel the same way. Got the rebel figurine. Decided I really wanted the hardcover. Then decided I had to have the complete hardcover sets as well as the novels. Now I know the posters will look good in my office. So much winning comes at a price.

Deleted my comment for touching the poop, but wanted to correct the record that Vox has said the same. The liar lied about what Vox has said, and testifies as a lying critic that he believes this comic will not be sold in shops.

Vox: Alt Hero will be sold through Castalia House's existing channels.

Vox: Those existing channels are available to comic shops.

Given the efforts of some Ilk, there will definitely be copies of Alt Hero sold in comic shops once it becomes available.

Hello again,

I have a really not-so-quick question. This is my dilemma: I've backed the Alt-Hero comics, but I'd like some advice on how to 'read' comics. My main problem is interjection of (sound effects?) like the following: "CHUKK" "PAK" "KRAMMMM". I don't get how these work. Also, I've probably read more Manga than Comics. Comics have a lot of text, but Manga are more panel to panel based. Neither are very easy for me to get absorbed into. The last Manga I read was the entire series of BLAME! It wasn't so easy to understand but there were times when I was "into" the story, a little like I would be a novel. But it wasn't very often.

So, if anyone would like to share some advice or tips on how to 'get into' a comic, that'd be great (assuming there's a way to). In the meantime, I've purchased three volumes of Kevin and Hobbes for practice :)

Thanks

Anonymous Mjimmy October 19, 2017 7:30 AM

Meng dude, my recommends include Hate By Peter Bagge, Yummy Fur, Lobo by DC (ultra violent), Swamp Thing, the works of Møbius, the works of Daniel Clowes, early Conan, Little Nemo and Krazy Kat (last two are early 20th c.). That's just an eclectic few off the top, comix have been around a long time; it's worth it to research the old gems. Also there is difference between daily comic strips, comic books and graphic novels, the last being the most recent form and most fun to read imo.

Anonymous Mjimmy October 19, 2017 7:35 AM

Meng, reading over your post I didn't really answer your question, but those are some good ones for my money. I myself haven't read anything for years, since the eyes started going bad.

You gotta put more effort into it than that, something more like this:

"Seeing Rebel I now understand why 'the South will rise again,' of course they forgot to mention that so will the North, male body temperature, and the decibel level of the REEEEEEEEEEEs."
