NFL Week 4

Prognosis: Red.

Week 3

-14% NBC OAK-WSH
-17% FOX NYG-PHI
-03% CBS CIN-GB

Week 4

-06% CBS CHI-GB

A reader with connections at Anheiser Busch reports that the phone calls and emails there are "at least 3 to 1 against NFL, and against Goodell in particular."

NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” is off 7 percent this year, ESPN’s Monday night down 5 percent, Fox down 11 percent, CBS 19 percent.

Starve the SJW beast. But to be honest, I can't watch any football today anyhow. I've simply got too much to do.

Problem being the National Fools League went past the understanding of their fan base, the fan base thinks itself the goodwhites the Fools being so indoctrinated with their dogmas thinks that goodwhites are as rare as hen's teeth. So we get 95 IQ idiots lecturing 100 IQ morons on morality which is like diet tips from Trigglypuff for good healthy living.

Off topic, I watched the GB-Bears game and the rain delay showed the fans in their full manboob glory while wearing jerseys with men's names on the back. "Super Fan" the documentary starring Patton Oswalt.

The Beatles learned they were wrong when they joked that they were bigger than Jesus, and the NFL learned a similar lesson.

Would be rather amusing, but more realistically what could happen is the Super Bowl not sell out it's allotment of ads. At $5 mil the last two nearly didn't. Typically the network brags that they've sold out before or during the wild card round. This time? Nothing. If A-B decides 'nope' on NFL ads (unlikely, but possible) that's gonna leave about 5 minutes of SB ad time up for grabs.

If I were running one of these big time sponsoring companies I believe I would still buy some ads, but perhaps not so many, and keep away from this unique ad thing where you get identified with the Super Bowl. Best not to take sides and that is either side. Pulling out would be too blatant.

The London game's a surprise, the Saints are leading the Dolphins 20-0 at the 2:00 with a 112 yrds rushing (with a suspiciously absent name) against what was the 5th ranked rush D. Brees is 268 yrds/2 TD, what would be expected for a QB of his caliber.

It didn't sell out last year, not at full price. My company was offered spots and bought a 30 second spot for about 1/10th the initial asking price.

If I remember correctly, Nate said it wouldn't be down as much as people were predicting. I don't think he said it wouldn't be down.

But those numbers look even worse than I was expecting, so he may be wrong. I was expecting somewhere in the 5-10% range, max. Normally these things take time to build.

I've never been a particularly huge football fan. But I live in Alabama, and football is yuge around these parts. I have friends I've known for twenty+ years who have always been massive football fans, looking at me like I'm crazy because I'm not. And almost all of them are tuning it out. I know one good country boy in his 60s, massive football fan his entire life, who's publicly posting on Football, "F you, NFL, I'm done with this."

When you're losing guys like that, your absolute core audience, you're done. If the NFL were publicly traded, I'd be shorting their stock like mad right now.

Yeah, it's the Steelers/Ratbirds game here in Baltimore today. Haven't watched one red second of it. Heard the Ratbirds kneeled again at M&T, and the fans rightly booed them.

Just hope the Steelers don't revert to form and lose, but then again, I'm at a daughter's field hockey match, so it really doesn't matter that much, anyways.

Therapy can be good for many folks, and that includes drugs, when absolutely necessary. This kind of crap does not help. I've been on and off drugs, myself, and I found it was a pricey solution to a problem that I have more control over than I originally suspected I did.

If a therapist is allowing someone other than an immediate family member/friend/acquaintance/colleague/etc. to be the cause of issues, they need to lose their credentials to help people. That's a classic case of enabling right there.

@37-Even if such a crisis exists, don't therapists usually tell patients it's their responsibility to control their emotions? Because they certainly can't control the outside world, and there will always be something out there to "trigger" them.

Ever met he guy who gets into barfights every week, maintaining the other guy always instigates. Anger management classes will teach him, well, lots of people go their entire adult lives without getting in a serious fight. Maybe it's your problem.

But not concerning Trump. It's his problem. He doesn't deserve the consideration we extend potential barfight instigators.

The other day the black players of the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the CFL linked arms with each other before the game. The western teams rely a lot on American players to fill their roster. In 1991, 64% of the Rider players were white, now 64% are Black. The city of Regina, where they play, is about 2 - 3% black and the whole province is maybe 5%. My opinion (I'm probably not alone)is they no longer represent Saskatchewan anymore, especially when they start bringing their American politics into it. I'm starting to pay more attention to Junior Football now. The local team is right up there in the standings too. OT - Mayhem in Edmonton,Alberta last night, near an CFL stadium, as a "lone wolf" flying an ISIS flag goes on a rampage. Of course,Trudeau's big statement is that "Diversity Is Our Strength". He's mostly hated in the whole of Alberta,so what does he care what happens "way out there"?

Blogger Johnny October 01, 2017 5:40 PM

As a spectator sport what I miss is the old NFL when it was two divisions of six teams each. Because you played your home division teams twice, an amateur like me could keep track of the merits of the other teams in the division.

Back then the teams had a certain amount of personality that is now largely missing. As a resident of the Green Bay area, of course I favored the Packers. But except for when the Dallas Cowboys were playing the Vincent T. Lombardi coached Packers, the Cowboys really were America's team. And other than the Packers I had a real fondness for the Bud Grant coached Minnesota Vikings. And correctly or otherwise, I had real animosity for the Monsters of the Midway, the Chicago Bears.

Now there are so many team and they are so homogenized, what the hell. It is still possible to follow a star player, but otherwise it is just so many hirelings combatting so many other hirelings. That being the case one should ask, is team loyalty just being so much the fool?

Trump is gonna lose this fight.

He's already won it. I said that after no one knelt at Thursday night's game, and today confirms it. There might still be a handful of kneelers, and the league might let a few stubborn ones go on with it for now and just keep the cameras off them, but the widespread protest that was at 200 players and growing is over.

Trump is gonna lose this fight.

He's already won it, and could never lose. Maybe you misunderstand what he was trying to do. If you thought he was trying to kill the NFL because of a petty grudge from decades ago, you should pay less attention to TDS sufferers. He was trying to: A) get the players to stand for the anthem; and B) increase his support among the normal Americans who care about it. B was guaranteed as soon as he spoke out. A was almost as certain if you know anything about the NFL, because the league always beats the players when it wants to. Always.

Apparently American Budweiser is now asking for public input about the NFL ...

Which is probably a sign that American Budweiser management is too cowardly to do what they know they have to do, and so they need charts and graphs to back them up (so they can tell everyone else to bug off).

Not that I give a flying toss about American Budweiser in general or whether they can pull their collective back bacon out of the fire -- České Budvar is a better product.
