Omnibus #3 now available

So, we've gone ahead and made a few changes to the Stretch Goals and the Rewards. First and foremost, we've been able to work things out so that we only have to reach $85k to bring Chuck Dixon on for Alt★Hero Vols VII through IX. Just to confirm, Digital Edition backers and above will receive the digital editions of the first NINE volumes. Not a bad deal for $15.

Second, operating on the assumption that we will be able to raise another $1,600 in the next three weeks - if not the next three hours - we have created Rewards for Paperback #3 ($30) and Hardcover #3 ($65) that can be purchased now. Remember that the Hardcover is a special Backers-only version with a custom cover that will not be made available to the retail channel. These two omnibuses consist of the first three Chuck Dixon-penned volumes bound together.

We've also pushed back Novel #2 to the 90k level, and will be announcing a new 100k goal sometime next week.

There are now more than 1,000 backers helping Make Comics Great Again. This is happening. Join us!

UPDATE: Paging Mr. Dixon. Paging Mr. Chuck Dixon.

Not a comic book guy, but it's obvious the superversive art is going to reach framing level, at which point I'm interested.

Hurghth! Grrughtll! OK, unswallowed my tongue. Lord have mercy. When was the last time we saw a heroine that sexy and wholesome at the same time?

That cover should generate enough additional REEEEEEEEnergy to activate all the Alderson points in our system. Maybe the next campaign should work in a graphic representation of Dr. Pournelle's future history?

Heck yeah, paperback 3!

I backed $15, but for 9 volumes, that is a fucking steal, I am going to send some more money to this.

Also, on a similar note, Vox, if you EVER decide to re-try your hand at videogames or another person/ilk of your trust, my wallet is open to you.

Just as long as the tassels don't talk.

But, yes, the $15 tier is looking to be the most valuable comic book purchase in ages, and we haven't even seen a full story yet.

Um, I have a question for whomever. This comes from a friend of a friend who purportedly knows someone who backed at the T-shirt level. He's a he but he really likes the Rebel woman character, or so I'm led to believe.

So anyway, there was this esoteric, nay metaphysical, discussion the other month about the propriety of men wearing pictures of other men on their tee shirts. That got my distant acquaintance worried about wearing Rebel. His panties aren't all in a bunch over it- since he doesn't wear panties- but still.

What should I tell my friend to tell his friend to pass on to the Concern-man who wants the Rebel woman on his tee shirt?

Blogger Azure Amaranthine October 08, 2017 4:00 PM

"If no capes! is sage advice, how much more does it apply to ribbons on costumes?"

Depends on what kind of power set and fighting style said superhero has.

If it's a "get in close speed/strength melee" type, then yeah, ribbons and capes are both terrible ideas unless they break away easily from the rest of the costume.

If it's something more like a "stand back/fly back out of range and artillery bombard", capes or ribbons or long hair or whatever are not really risky, because if they end up in the melee they're pretty much toast anyway.

Blogger Azure Amaranthine October 08, 2017 4:01 PM

Anonymous Just another commenter October 08, 2017 4:41 PM

Question about the "number of backers" given.

If someone drops $150 for a figurine, they are a backer. Great. Clear enough.

Now they drop another $75 for the hardback omnibus #1.
Does that count as 1 backer, or two?
If they then kick in $30 for paperback omnibus #2, is that a "third backer," or is the backer count still at 1?

Not a big deal, just curious. With over a thousand backers, and more than $85k raised, I was just trying to get a feel for support... beyond YUUUGE!, that is.

And it still has three weeks.

Setting a high bar, we are.

It does look better.

Comparing the two, one thing that pops out to me about the new one is the lighting - the bottom half of her face is lit up and visible, but the sides of her face not covered by the ribbons are in the shadow of her hair. The effect is like the typical half face mask worn by many super heroes.

In the original, the sides of her face are visible and we can make out her eyebrows/eyes/freckles. It feels busy because it is. I'm guessing our brain's face recognition is trying too hard to see the partially visible face behind the X.

This is going to be so good. You may have underestimated how important this cultural counterattack will be. Contrary to critics, nobody is tired of comic books and their movies as the MCU and DCEU billion dollar hits keep proving. But they are sick of SJWs and the time is ripe for an... alternative.

Alt-Hero is going to take the culture war to the next level, the level where the Right opens a new front and begins taking ground back.

When Vox brought up his missed opportunities, the 3D Graphics comes up. That's important, because what he's saying is his missed a chance to have a near monopoly of the GPU market. You know, the devices that you're using to read this?

This seemed more like a test project for using Crowd Funding as a feedback loop, it just so happens that causing REEEEEE to reach Pluto is a side benefit. I'd say it's been a smashing success to far. Just the pain it's caused has been worth the price of admission.

Dominated markets have to reach a point before they can assaulted, unless the dominant companies are ignoring a huge chunk of the market. Both markets had to reach a point where significant force could be applied with no ability to readjust, as they are locked into their ideological framework.

So, weirdly, CNN could have prevent FoxNews from happening, while SF/F & Comic Books really can't.

That has surprised me a little. It probably shouldn't have, but the barriers to entry are high enough that I never even glanced at it. Linear projections on roughcoat's data (thanks again!) show $95K in about 30 hours and $100K in about 24 hours after that.

Anonymous Causal Lurker October 09, 2017 9:36 AM

The comic book or graphic story has a bigger hurt factor - it's the unshielded cargo bay that leads to the main reactor. The left had made school, reading, and education a living hell for boys over the last 50 years or so. They stop reading because the books offered are dumb (from their needs), the role models weren't there for the most part, and easily read classics got literally trashed.

What's left, in terms of action, adventure, heroes, reward, and easy reading? Comic books. The Army's low-end maintenance publication, PM, was issued in comic format for years. Two reasons for this: you pay more attention to a set of pretty set of female characters reminding you of important details, written in a "quest" mode, and the number of Cat IV and low Cat III soldiers who really couldn't read well needed this to see and understand what to do.

Well (from the SJW view) we can't have that, can we? DESTROY THE HEROES! NO MISSION, NO REWARD, AND NO PRETTY DAMSELS. AND ESPECIALLY, NO PRETTY HEROINES!!!!

After the wreckage of the '90s and '00 when victory was declared, the SJWs forgot that all the tech changes that enabled their campaigns had also weaponized this for the opposition. With distributed storytelling, artist work, and digital authoring and editing, any competent group can now make, sell, and distribute good quality comics, with story lines that boys and men will read and enjoy.

From the Alt-Right: (ahem) Alt-Hero
SJW: REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!
(insert the X-shattering kaboom)

Graphic novels (fully illustrated) still cost too much, but what about illustrated novels, with more in the way of maps, character sketches, battle plans or scenes, treasures and damsels?

Blogger GithYankee October 09, 2017 9:43 AM

I don't know if this question was already asked, or if it will get an answer, but will these comics be pg-13 friendly? I have nieces 10, 12 and 13 who love teen titans, etc. Their dad is staunch conservative so would these be appropriate? I understand they probably won't be ready by christmas. Thanks!

Anonymous Panzer Man October 09, 2017 12:23 PM

$90,000? Offhand, I'd say that any novelists with a hint of artistic talent should ditch the novel and go straight for comics/graphic novels. Hire someone to illustrate it if needs be.

Compared to the pittance the typical novel pays (note: exceptions if your name is E.L. James or Stephen King), one would have to be mad to dedicate the effort to making something that might pay a few thousand, rather than using that time for something that could produce tens of thousands.

The nine comics? The $15 option . The books? The first one is a $5 option. The second one isn't up yet, but will almost certainly be $5 also. Or you can just order the books from Castalia House or Amazon for $5 each once they're released.
