Paper nationalists

If you weren't certain that civic nationalism is intrinsically cuckservative, you know better now.

"We live in a land made of ideals, not blood and soil," McCain said. "We have a moral obligation to continue in our just cause, and we would bring more than shame on ourselves if we don't. We will not thrive in a world where our leadership and ideals are absent. We wouldn't deserve to."

Do you know where a land made of ideals can be found? In Plato's Theory of Forms. Do you know where it cannot be found? On this planet.

Bush’s version: “Our identity as a nation, and unlike many other nations, is not determined by geography or ethnicity, by soil or blood. Being an American involves the embrace of high ideals and civic responsibility.”

How very strange, then, that so many US citizens do not embrace those ideals or accept any civic responsibility. Doesn't that mean they are not Americans? If a nation's identity is not determined by geography, ethnicity, soil, or blood, that does not make it special, it makes it nonexistent.

"Bigotry in any form is blasphemy."
- George W. Bush

"The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth."
- God

One wonders what god, exactly, is being blasphemed by bigotry.

It is blood and soil that makes a nation.

Then, and only then, is it ideals that make it prosper.

"Bigotry in any form is blasphemy."
- George W. Bush

Apparent Bush intends an uncommon use of the word blasphemy.

There is an inherent illogic in being against bigots because if you are then you are bigoted against bigots and thus in favor of your own bigotry. And by asserting it, promoting bigotry.

Of course what people actually mean by prejudice or bigotry is an opinion somebody else has that they disagree with. It is a disagreement with somebody else masquerading as a fact with a slander thrown in for good measure. And in our current era it seldom rises above name calling.

seven that are an abomination to him:

19 a false witness who breathes out lies,

What ideal was served by leaving American POW's behind in VietNam to die in captivity? McCain has never answered.

Bush’s version: “Our identity as a nation, and unlike many other nations, is not determined by geography or ethnicity, by soil or blood. Being an American involves the embrace of high ideals and civic responsibility.”

"We live in a land made of ideals, not blood and soil"? So every American war ever was an evil waste? By this logic, we could have surrender before the first shot of the Revolutionary War, but still had a United States just though "the embrace of high ideals and civic responsibility" (while apparently still serving in the King's wars and still paying his taxes). How do people who spout things this vacuous ever achieve high national offices? Is the average American voter truly this stupid?

I would bother hating these despicable backstabbers, but one is dying and the other was repudiated just as viciously as Obama, if not more so.

As for civic nationalism: it is a nice-looking theory, maybe even has a few exceptions, but no. In fact, the implementation of the program makes life harder for the exceptions than it had to be. So thanks for that.

The inertia of civic nationalism might carry future citizenship away from ancestry, but not very far away. Much more frightening is the bloodshed and secession that will inevitably follow.

Civic nationalism might work in a country with a host population that believes in itself, an elite that insists are assimilation and the newcomers are closely related and don't have a chip on their shoulders. This certainly isn't true of immigrants today.

Being an American is no different from being a Lion, or a Rotary, or a Toastmaster, or a Free Mason.
All you have to do is JOIN and say you support the ideals of the organization.
That Constitution stuff, especially the 14th amendment, is just a bunch of baloney. It does not matter if you are born on US soil. It does not matter if your parents were American when you were born. It does not matter how many generations of your family lived in this country. Just pay your (very modest) membership fee, fill out an application, and sign at the bottom. Now raise your right hand and swear to vote against everything and anything that has historically been traditional in the USA, most especially the Founding Stock of people, and you are good to go.

I don't even think that. Judeo-God. Christ isn't God in this scenario, anymore. In fact, if you listen to how secular and christian people embrace Jesus, it is almost like the version of him from Islam and Jewry - a good man who was a prophet.

You are right about quantity. When numbers reach critical mass, more especially in a concentrated area, they don't assimilate.

Incredibly enough, at one time, one of the purposes of the public school system was to Americanize the children of immigrants. Parents often sent their kids to Catholic schools in order avoid Americanization.

Some groups have a chip-on-the-shoulder attitude. The first group to migrate to the US with an attitude problem was the Jews, especially the Eastern European. Other groups, such as Mexicans and Moslems, also have a deep-seated grudge against American or the West. The educational system, especially higher education, teaches that the reason the third world is the third world is because of the "legacy of colonialism," "Western exploitation," or whatever.

We cannot wish away globalism.

An interesting turn of phrase that really means silly peons, you cannot vote away globalism.

When in fact, of course you can, and of course you did.

Nafta didn't draft, sign, and enforce itself. There's no law of physics compelling hordes of hijabis to swarm to Minnesota and Maine. There's no reason why you can't tariff-slap companies who force American workers to compete with Chinese coolies for their daily bread.

None of these things are like hurricanes, earthquakes or cosmic radiation. They're not the product of forces of nature, inescapable logic, or the Word of God. They're the result of a small group of human beings making decisions deliberately and with malice aforethought.

I think it was Hibernian hoplite Steve Bannon who pointed out that they're not simply going to give you your country back.

Which is what we're finding in Britain, ever since we voted to leave the EU.

The Clever People suddenly discovered that - ACKSHUALLY - exiting a treaty organisation is now basically like eating the Moon or moving objects with your mind or driving a car in London - a metaphysical obscenity against sanity, reason, and the fundamental subatomic particles of reality itself, doomed to either Lovecraftian ultrahorror or humiliating failure so we'd best just forget this "democracy" business and beg the kleptocratic drunks and fiddly kidders of Brussels to keep taking our money.

But, annoying as the globalist gaslighting and obstructionism is, the important thing is the long game. Which means thinking past President Trump (PBUH) and beyond the day the EU finally collapses and they all get dragged out and Kratmanned.

We didn't get into this horrible, stinking, strangely brown mess in just one election cycle or even decade. It's going to take time to rebuild the West, and as celebrated cakeophobic chanteuse Karen Carpenter promised, we've only just begun.

Now that I think about it we really are a land of blood and soil. It gets no play in modern times because it does not go to any agenda, but the real reason most people immigrated from Europe was land. Europe was heavily populated, peasant rich, and land short. Immigration was a way to become the freeholder of a remarkably generous amount of land.

And of course the land could not be held unless it was held, if necessary, by violent means. Plus in most instances it was won by combat. Hey, blood and soil sums it up nicely.

The Moops will point to their first mosque being in the US back in 1836. I don't care. They have to go back. Also, Catholic high schools are overrun with non-Catholics. My high school is one example and it's the reason I have not and will not give them a red cent of my money. They care more about money than their stated mission. Another Catholic high school in the area takes off every high Jewish holiday because half the population is Jewish.

I cannot imagine who you believe are the "rightful owners" of this country.
But ask yourself, do the "rightful owners" have the land they live on....anywhere in the world?

I do not know how many different ways a particular people need to pay for land in order to become the "rightful owners".

Right now, there are many Chinese who consider themselves to be the "rightful owners" of a good bit of the real estate in this country. We sold it to them and they paid for it, with money we paid them. So that makes it theirs, even by our rules.

But buying land and governing that land is two different things. Buying land without occupying that land makes it a piece of paper...an investment....only as good as the laws of that society allow.

The Negroes are not the "rightful owners" of this land, nor are the Mexicans, nor are the American Indians, nor are the Muslims or the Hindus or the Buddhists. Prying this land from the fingers of the people who occupy and govern this land will be a serious undertaking, especially if they know you are coming.

DonReynolds,

You have a few quotes around the idea of rightful owners. I had assumed everyone here agreed that the nation is the rightful inheritance of the posterity with blood ties to the dominant culture. At minimum, their needs and rights must be respected. Then the claims of others can be measured appropriately.

I did not suggest things would be easy, especially in light of the current difficulties. They must be done, though. I am curious, though- if the investments of Asians or the ancestral rights of the Native tribes are completely disavowed, by what treaty, law, or right do you presume to be recognized?

Of course, even if your personal definition excludes me, I don't have to care unless you're in a position to dictate terms. I prefer the nationalist elements in the current government: we can see what happens after that.

I have no idea what includes or excludes you personally, so that is not the purpose. Very recently, a Federal judge ordered the Cherokees to admit to the tribe the descendants of the Negro slaves, formerly owned by Cherokees. So clearly, the world is not of one mind on the subject.

I would like to believe in the nationalist elements in the current government, but the current government appears even more unwilling and unable to govern than the previous administration. Serious questions could be asked whether the current government is sustainable, even if it were to magically change direction....which seems to be part of the problem.

No matter whether the present government continues or the people (again) form a more perfect union, the "rightful owners" of this country are probably going to stay the same, with the real possibility that domestic enemies will be exiled, destroyed, or relegated to some corner of the country. Certainly, not unthinkable.

We owe Obama a debt of gratitude for sparing us from four to eight years of "President McCain".

On another note, civic nationalism could work as Kratman has pointed out, but not the cucks, version and its standards would have to be ruthlessly and brutally enforced against everyone. Citizenship could be granted to those who adhere to civic virtues and taken from those who do not. However this requires judgement and exercise of discretion that are sorely lacking today and we know from experience that the left would exercise their own twisted version of both against us.

Assuming, of course, that the civic nationalist's soul is surrendering himself to "love violence", i.e. deliberately choosing evil for his good. For whatever success the civic nationalist has in wickedness and in creating mischief, it is certain God abhors his conduct, and, unless the he repent, God will severely punish him.

Assuming, of course, that all such persons--the civic nationalists--are the objects of divine displeasure, and would be righteously punished. In the end, whomever is persecuted by the civic nationalist, they will calmly commit themselves to the cause of God in this endeavor rather than flee, therefore justifying the destruction of the civic nationalist.

Indeed, mighty big assumptions.

Per Zman: "Civic nationalism is Progressivism in a tricorn hat."

Re civic nationalism, immigration, and "assimilation," Those Who Can See takes on all of the above in his usual factual and thorough way. Not surprisingly, he reaches much the same conclusion as Vox about muh Ellis Islanders (resulted in not assimilation but rather amalgamation) although then seems to feel compelled to add the bromide that all those Irish and Italians ended up becoming "good Americans."

Some take away quotes from progressive economist John Commons writing in 1907:

" ...Latin, Slav, Semitic, and Mongolian races. When the sources of American immigration are shifted from the Western countries so nearly allied to our own, to Eastern countries so remote in the main attributes of Western civilization, the change is one that should challenge the attention of every citizen. In 1882 Western Europe furnished 87% of the immigrants and in 1902 only 22% . . ."

"Nevertheless, the peasantry of Europe today [1907] is in large part the product of serfdom and of that race-subjection which produced serfdom. ... It is characteristic of peasants that they have accepted this inferior lot. .... They have no large sense of citizenly motives; they feel no sense of responsibility for any part of the public life save that which lies within their own narrow round of action."

"The cities, too, furnish that choice of employers and that easy reliance on charitable and friendly assistance which is so necessary to the indigent labour looking for work. Thus it is that those races of immigrants the least self-reliant or forehanded, like the Irish and the Italians, seek the cities in greater proportions than those sturdy races like the Scandinavians, English, Scotch, and Germans."

Blogger Thucydides October 20, 2017 1:00 PM

Civic Nationalism is a very distorted version of what might be termed "American Mythology". Most nations have a national mythology which unites their peoples and provides a common framework for their culture, think "Britannia Rules the Waves" or Russia saying "Moscow is the Third Rome".

You don't have to agree with these myths, and true Britons or Russians could care less what you think. American mythology is codified by ideas like "Armerican Exceptionalism", the American Dream, "Manifest Destiny", and these myths were consciously and vigorously taught in schools to both American children and to the children of Immigrants during the period between 1880 and 1920, when the prevailing idea was to *make* them into Americans.

Culture is upstream of Politics, and Americans back then obviously understood the idea, even if they did not state it in those terms. So while the currently "accepted" or "official" myth is Civic Nationalism, dog deep and go for the cultural myths that defined America. Reintroducing this into American Culture will probably cause seizures among the SJW's, snowflakes and academics who push Civic Nationalism (or worse, just attempt to erase American history and culture from the face of the Earth). That alone makes this worth doing.

Anonymous Pennywise October 20, 2017 6:55 PM

There wasn't any mythology when it came to "American Exceptionalism" or the American Dream or "Manifest Destiny". These concepts are immutable truths. The prevailing idea was to assimilate newcomers. They aren't going back.
