How SF-SJWs celebrate the Happy Holidays

Because, after all, we all know they certainly don't celebrate Christmas. Anyhow, this may be the most SF-SJW headline ever seen at File 770. Or, possibly, anywhere.

Season’s Readings: N.K. Jemisin & Christopher Brown Offer Visions of Unhappy New Years at the KGB Bar

Just wait, it gets even better.

In a special treat, and fighting bronchial problems, she shared the revised version of an unpublished short story, at present entitled “Give Me Cornbread or Give Me Death.”  Continuing the evening’s dystopian theme (where was the season’s merry jollity?), we were shown a future where the powerful inhabitants of Towers dominate, ruling by fear and dependency, and have genetically tweaked frogs (as in the Plague in the Book of Exodus) into drug-sniffing dragons.  Rural black raiders, however, have co-opted the dragons, diverting them from eating dark-skinned people with what sounded like soul food (this is a serious story, she reminded us).

Ladies and gentlemen, your two-time winner of the Hugo Award for Best Novel! Let's hope she can make it three straight in 2018!

Still not tired.

@1 It depends on the great SJW derangement curve. To the left, the dementia is just setting in so they slowly descend into the madness. The peak, which might occur in 2018 is when they still make some sense, at least perceivable by rational people but it is clear that they are diving into piles of manure looking for unicorn ponies. The far side of the curve is when they cease making any sense at all.
The problem with SF/F is that the alternate reality worlds built lend themselves to camoflauge for the insanity. It can take a few iterations to realize a SJW isn't talking about some alternate universe, but Silicon Valley or Seattle Washington or New York. It is as if you are walking with them down the street and they point to some short people and say "oh look! Hobbits" and you perceive they are serious and immediately try to figure how to escape the presence of the psycopathology...

The SJW Holiday Season just got even worse. The Last Jedi is in free-fall at the box office.

Friday to Friday drop:
ROGUE ONE = 67.8%
LAST JEDI = 76.4%

The once unbeatable titan is now wounded and bleeding out.

Will the Han Solo film coming out next year heal things? Considering they're firing directors, doing massive reshoots, and giving the lead guy acting lessons, I don't think so...

OT - comments on starting the movie "Bright" on Netflix. Just watched the opening scenes, here are initial perspectives. Will comment later when Vox makes a main post.
Bright has been released. It is basically Lord of the Rings cast into current time. It is multi-cult no question. But it is not SJW.
First clue: the very first words to appear on screen are: "Trigger Warning Entertainment".
Second clue: immediately after there is spray paint on the wall that says: "In the beginning God created all races equal" but then a separate spray paint: "but elves are more equal".
Third clue: then a spray paint image: an elven warrior with "Dark Lord" spray painted overhead.
All the spray paint on the walls: Identity Nationalism. Then: "Dark Lord Will Return". Neighborhoods marked: "Elves Only".
Is it possible - that there are anti-SJW forces within Hollywood?

Holy crap guys.

Just finished watching Bright. The disparity between Bright and The Last Jedi is amazing.

In Last Jedi, the movie is celebrating diversity and the destruction of the old world.

In Bright, the movie explores different groups that are forced to deal with a pluralistic culture pressed upon them, and these characters wish for the traditional days of old that were robbed from them.

Last Jedi: The diversity-loving critics loved it, audiences and actual human beings hated it.

Bright: My prediction is that critics will hate it and put it down, but the real audience will love it.

I know that I really enjoyed it.

Blogger Ingot9455 December 24, 2017 3:39 AM

Blogger Basta Con La Droga December 24, 2017 3:58 AM

Blogger Dire Badger December 24, 2017 4:18 AM

I just watched Bright, and I thought it was utterly wonderful for a modern movie. There was a 'little' political correctness, but it was almost entirely lampshaded by the orcish/elvish dynamic, or by the simple fact that it simply did not MATTER that every white dude in the movie was either corrupt or sadistic... Because pretty much everyone else was too.

The special effects were absolutely perfectly balanced to provide visual story cues and enhancement WITHOUT making themselves the centerpiece of the story.

Will Smith actually made several facial expressions that, while a bit ridiculous, he has NEVER MADE BEFORE. (check out his weird face in the orc lair wand scene... no more spoilers). That means he STRETCHED himself as an actor. Not a really great Stretch, but this movie basically DOUBLED the range of emotion he has ever displayed before.

The casting was amazing, to say the least. The Chemistry between the characters was incredible, primary stapled down by a nearly amazing and unexpected performance by Lucy Fry as 'Tikka'... every character she interacted with she had some sort of chemistry with, as did Noomi Rapace's 'Leilah'.

The elves were... to put it bluntly... incredibly well acted. While only a few conveyed real menace, they utterly dominated every scene with palpable arrogance, as well as Charisma. Edgar Ramirez was.... Just... I mean, he had like only a tiny couple of lines, but every time he walked into a room, he was the FOCUS of that room, He FELT like a very powerful, charismatic, Arrogant, and ANCIENT elf. Even when Anderson was kicking some dude's ass in an interrogation room, Ramirez was still... drawing your focus even when partially offscreen.

Yes, this movie had no heavy-handed and dreary analysis of politically correct 'problems', and you can literally tell the writer realized that people are SICK of getting preached at.... The problems were there, but there was no undertone of liberal solutions to pollute them.

The Orcs were clearly incredibly difficult to grasp. Clearly the temptation to 'Klingon' them, like world of warcraft, was there... but the writer managed to make them sympathetic without diminishing their brutal, violent, criminal nature in the slightest.

It let you THINK about modern problems via Metaphors, without a hint of the sanctimonious social engineering that most movies like this try to shove down your throat.

Another awesome thing is that at the end, somehow the writer left the thing WIDE open for sequels, WITHOUT leaving the story unfinished. And none of that 'explain nothing' crap like in Hancock, either. The ending was fairly Decent... not terribly original, but who wants an ending that critics consider 'original'? Critic 'original' endings are mostly depressing, killing off the most important or beloved characters and revelling in sinking into apathy or personal horror.

Screw critics. Most of them wouldn't know a decent movie if it bit them on the ass. "Bright" doesn't let you down halfway through the movie like most Hollywood offerings nowadays.

Blogger Dire Badger December 24, 2017 4:23 AM

BTW- every professional critic is a deep leftist, and the phrases, "Fairy Lives don't matter" and "Lock and Load snowflakes" are so clearly designed to trigger the crap out of them that I think Netflix might have INTENDED to draw bad reviews from them in order to boost their viewership.

The smug look of Hollywooders is same look as Clinton, and sarcy Alalaweed saying Trump had no chance. They are so used to their narratives playing out in reality get too cocky. They signpost it all pre-event. The ultimate cocky move.

Blogger Forge the Sky December 24, 2017 9:01 AM

Haven’t seen it, but right at the top of a google search:

Rotten Tomatoes rating: 30%
Google users: 94% liked this

Followed by a bunch of articles about how it’s the ‘worst movie of the year’ and ‘the opposite of magic.’

Self-selecting fan audience or ideological polarization? Both, most likely.

Blogger Forge the Sky December 24, 2017 9:05 AM

“David Elrich of IndieWire gave the film an F and called it the worst of 2017, saying: "There's boring, there's bad, and then there's Bright, a movie so profoundly awful that Republicans will probably try to pass it into law over Christmas break. From the director of Suicide Squad and the writer of Victor Frankenstein comes a fresh slice of hell that somehow represents new lows for them both — a dull and painfully derivative ordeal that often feels like it was made just to put those earlier misfires into perspective."[24] On Twitter, director David Ayer responded to Elrich's review, tweeting "This is going on my fridge. Highest compliment is a strong reaction either way. This is a f*cking epic review. It’s a big fun movie. You can sure string words together Mr. Erlich. I’d love to read any script you’ve written."”

That’s no gamma.

Blogger Ingot9455 December 24, 2017 9:17 AM

@58 Although you must admit that:

Ayer’s dim and sloppy action set-pieces look wildly out of place on a movie screen (they’re so bland you almost expect Iron Fist to show up),

Is a fine insult in this day and age. :)
I should be seeing the movie today or tomorrow, but it's probably a compliment. Just like the close-quarters gunfight at the end of 'Reservoir Dogs' is new and innovative, cinematically, I expect the same here.

Blogger RobertDWood December 24, 2017 9:28 AM

Blogger GithYankee December 24, 2017 9:37 AM

David Ayer's wiki says he is a Christian and ex-submariner. He wrote a movie called U-571 that fictitiously took the credit for cracking the Enigma codes from the British and made it look like the Americans did it. The British got all butt hurt, then gave London to a bunch of Somalians and Iraqis. LOL. Good on this dude.

Now I also want to see Bright, although I cancelled Netflix earlier over their egregious SJW series and other issues. Maybe this signals a sea change in the culture war? It's not like NK Jemison and these other ugly betas are offering anything memorable, moral or profitable.

Anonymous Random #57 December 24, 2017 10:22 AM

Looks like comments are turned off for this Happy KGB Holidays gem.

The people who made Bright aren't being subtle, creating a "Trigger Warning Entertainment" for it. Wikipedia says Netflix has already ordered a sequel.

Blogger Emmett Fitz-Hume December 24, 2017 12:14 PM

I watched 'Bright' last night. I was entertained, especially the old Shadowrun player in me.

Its an interesting contrast between the Rotten Tomatoes treatment of both movies:

The Last Jedi is now 92% 'Fresh' and 52% with Audiences.

Bright is 30% 'Fresh and 90% with Audiences.

Bright is no Gone With The Wind or Casablanca. Its not trying to be. But unlike The Last Jedi, it didn't commit the cardinal movie sin: it wasn't boring. It was actually entertaining.

And yes, there is SJW nonsense in the movie. But not as much as one might expect. I suspect that the writer and director are subversives and trying to sneak movies in under the SJW radar. I could be wrong.

And if you think about it, until the Alt-right fully generates its own cultural platforms across the board, its going to have to happen like this.

To get it past the initial round of Commissars, its going to have to be cloaked in a superficial veneer of Diversity and Progressiveness. Until we have the platforms created to no longer need to be cloaked.

Its funny when you read the sneering reviews of Bright. The SJW's reptilian brains can detect...something. But they can't actually finger it, except maybe to say its too 'shallow'. or something. That's my theory for why they hate it; they can detect that it is subversive ( or at least made by subversives) on an instinctual level. So its "the Worst Movie of 2017!1!1!)

And really, all it is , is entertaining! Its not deep or meaningful. Its definitely not an Alt-Right movie.

Its pretty good in a Saturday Matinee, popcorn flick kind of way. Nothing more. But also, nothing less.

And audiences are absolutely craving Entertainment. Not social engineering or agendas. Or the transgressive upsetting of audience expectation in the name of "originality".
