Shock poll in AL!

I think they left out the part where 100 percent of the likely voters were Democrats:
Democrat Doug Jones holds a 10-point lead over Republican Roy Moore among likely voters in deep red Alabama. Greater party loyalty plus higher interest in the election among Democrats combined with more enthusiasm among Jones supporters gives him the advantage in the race to fill the U.S. Senate seat previously held by U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

That’s according to a Fox News Poll of Alabama voters conducted Thursday through Sunday using traditional polling techniques, including a list-based probability sample with both landlines and cellphones.

Jones receives 50 percent to Moore’s 40 percent, with 1-in-10 undecided (8 percent) or supporting another candidate (2 percent) -- which could make a difference Tuesday. That’s even truer with such an unconventional election with unconventional candidates.
Color me skeptical. Very, very skeptical. Sounds like more futile media magic to me.

Speaking from the ground here in Madison County, Alabama (one of the purplest counties in the state), I had coworkers who up until two weeks ago didn't even know who Doug Jones was. And my coworkers are significantly better educated than average, significantly better informed than average, and significantly more liberal leaning than most of the state.

I don't buy this poll for a second.

The media just loves to publish fake news these days. You would think that if they wanted to lie they would at least make it close like saying that Jones was 2 or 3 points ahead so that when their lie fell apart, they could at least pretend that they were acting honestly. Tomorrow when Roy Moore wins, probably by 10 to 15 points, the media is going to look pathetic again.

Anonymous E Deploribus Unum December 11, 2017 1:45 PM

Given that the media has been doubling down since Trump's election, the propensity for outrageous lying here is off the charts. I suspect the actual numbers are the other way round.

Good news is that Wednesday morning we'll know, and that nobody who actually wants Roy Moore to win is going to stay home because of another "shock poll".

Here in Northern Alabama, I just heard a radio commercial talking about how All-American Alabama is -- the people, the values, the football, etc. The commercial ended with, "So don't elect a pedophile." I was disgusted, but not the way they intended.

What I'm noticing is that almost all of the ads appear to be hardcore attack ads. They're either anti-Moore or anti-Jones. Very little pro advertisements for either side. We're getting hit hard by all sides. I received four flyers within the past week. Three were glossy anti-Jones. One was an inexpensive postcard from the NRA supporting Moore.

As far as yard signs, I see far more signs for Jones, but I believe that's because even in a red state, libs fear no vandalism or ostracism for their political beliefs, while conservatives aren't so privileged.

My guess as a local? Tomorrow, Alabama people will go quietly to the polls and send a giant f*ck-you to the establishment by voting for Moore. I doubt it will be close, especially because Alabama has voter I.D. laws, which greatly reduce participation by illegals and dead people.

are there any news orgs that conduct their own polling? Gallup has been around forever.

ie - all polling ( as a practical matter ) is subcontracted to specialist companies

ie - every news org is hostage to the integrity of the specific polling company that they decide to report results from.

you notice how many lunatic anti-Trumpers have been turning up in the Derp State and News Media since the election? who will either outright falsify data or grossly exaggerate any tiny factoid they can get their hands on?

Fox's opinion poll sub-contractor may simply have someone jiggering the numbers that just recently lost their minds.

this is the kind of malfeasance which can be difficult to 'prove' ( sure, you could demand an independent analysis of all the raw data, but you couldn't find out any other way. and data analysis is what you're paying that company for ) until after the election.

Anonymous Looking Glass December 11, 2017 2:29 PM

And Hillary is 13% ahead!

Seriously, though, while I expected Trump to win since Fall 2015, by September 2016, the Polls actually showed him with a solid lead. The Tape hurt some, but if you skewed the polls properly, he was sitting 3-4% ahead from the Convention. It was always intentional misrepresentation. There's a reason the companies that got things right were all small. They weren't in the "group" that was told to fudge the numbers or else.

Blogger Cynic In Chief December 11, 2017 2:33 PM

This is a very blatant fake poll. Whenever you see one of these, just look at the party affiliation and compare it with the state's average to tell how skewed it is.

In this poll, they sample Democrats 42%, Republicans 44%, Independent 14%. The party demographics on Alabama are Democrat 35%, Republican 52%, Independent 13% (http://www.pewforum.org/religious-landscape-study/compare/party-affiliation/by/state/). They've oversampled Democrats by 7% and undersampled Republicans by 8%, causing the heavy skew towards Jones.

In reality it's going to be a fairly close race, with Moore having a light advantage over Jones. My instinct is to put the probabilities at 65% Moore, 35% Jones. The current poll averages before this outlier put Moore on top by about 3 points, and I'd say they are probably accurate.

Two other issues with all polling.

1) When things get super nasty, a sizable enough chunk of poll respondents "hide" their preference.
2) All modern media polling skews far too much to white, college-educated Women. They're the only group that still responds to polls. This is why Romney looked better than Trump looked worse.

Just considering how Strange was crushed in the runoff, the GOP is the energized half, and they keep pushing "but the allegations!" narrative.

(My response to the allegations is that Maryland 14 year old that was dragged by two illegal alien dreamers into a bathroom, brutally assaulted, and reported it to the police an hour, not 40 years, later. @38 In states and districts where the party doesn't typically stand a chance of winning, the party usually doesn't care how nutty the candidate is. They simply avoid putting resources into the campaign. In this case though the Dems were caught off guard by Moore beating Strange. Had they know that, they would have worked to get someone more mainstream (a good liar) on the ballot.

Of course it helps that the GOPe is working to torpedo their own candidate.

Blogger Tuatha December 11, 2017 4:17 PM

This election stuff is so fucking gay. Can't we all unite in the corporate state and just end multiple parties? Only then can a nation be completely solved:

"Democracy destroys the unity of the [Romanian] nation, dividing it among political parties making [Romanians] hate one another, and thus exposing a divided people to the united congregation of Jewish power at a difficult time in the nation's history. This argument alone is so persuasive as to warrant the discarding of democracy in favor of anything that would ensure our unity or life itself. For disunity means death."

Anonymous Uncle John's Band December 11, 2017 4:20 PM

Demoralization is a big part of bogus polls, but they are also trying to arrest momentum and counter any semblance of a preference cascade. It is supposed to make it seem as if the increasingly deranged shrieking about Moore matters. They tried the same crap with Trump, and it won't work any better now.

What I find interesting is just how terrified they all are of Moore in the Senate. The desperation is palpable.

It is just the studios and the content archive. Because Disney owns ABC and E(((SJW)))PN, FOX, Fox Sports (and related properties such as FS Soccer, the BTN stake, etc.), and FBN/FNC are not a part of the sale due to ownership rules.

As for the polls, I think I stopped relying on them in any fashion after 2012. When people were shocked here in Maryland when Hogan won in 2014 over Brown, the polls weren't that much different in favor of Brown over Hogan. Hogan (establishment shill that he currently is, but still better than anything the Dems want to offer this time around) ran a pretty decent Trump-like campaign, where he was actually visible to most elements of the voter base in the state. Brown, on the other hand, took a more Clintonian approach, where it was very small groups, limited access, and other measures that didn't present him as being even remotely approachable. That's usually the big tell: the more successful candidate is going to put themselves out there and drive the impression that they're pretty approachable and amenable to the populace's interests. While Hogan has fallen off a bit (not all that surprising), he's still significantly better than Brown ever could have hoped to be. I think the cancer diagnosis will also play to his favor a bit (was very open about that when he was diagnosed and stayed that way throughout his entire treatment regimen). If you can relate to people directly, no phone call in the world is going to make you change your mind. Especially when it's a huge opportunity to screw with people, like they did in 2016.

Not saying Moore's campaign has been similar to what Hogan's first one was, but those are the elements that I saw. And this is in a majorly "blue" state (though it's only 3-4 areas that maintain that "blue" mindset).

Traveling around Alabama with a pair of Yankee Negro politicians is not going to get much traction on election day.

The entire Negro population of Alabama is only 26.38 percent and a disproportionate number of them are children too young to vote.

The really foolish part is campaigning for voters who habitually vote Democrat anyway. Jones already owns these. He does not need to campaign for them.

The votes he desperately needs are Independent voters but they seem to be betting on enough cucky RINOs and Republican women will cross over and vote for Jones.

It isn't just ego and pride, they must find a way to retain some sort of control of the legislative bodies, and replacing a GOPe with a Populist is about the worst possible outcome for the PTB.

@78 All of my large extended family grew up in Illinois. Only a couple have not moved out of State...We were all taxpayers, so therefore viewed as prey by all the politicians and their minority bases.

Alabama is going to make Massachusetts and California cry great salty tears. It's going to be like a mini November 2016.

I read somewhere that Judge Moore was a registered Democrat at the time he supposedly (I give a 95% chance it's 100% bogus) groped young chicks. This was at the same time Bill Clinton was actually raping women. If Bill got a pass from being a Democrat, shouldn't Moore get one, too?

This might be why historian s don't use newspaper reports as primary sources. At best, they are secondary sourced, and usually third or lower.

Luke, you would think so, but the people who Democrats really abhor, and must destroy, are the "apostates" who left the party.

We all know Fox news is the standard of real news. This is the same Fox news that hired the disgraced former journalist from the New york times,(((Judith Miller))), who lied about evidence of Saddam Hussein possessing weapons of mass destruction.

They keep doubling down on absolute equality of outcomes, and it keeps failing.

Desegregation, "fair housing", AA/"disparate impact" are all based on false notions of human (using the term loosely) nature.  They all ignore the factor of human capital and, for lack of a better word, asabiyya.

I know that, you know that. My point was their incompetence and the astronomical size of their OODA loop when it comes to elections has even normies noticing they aren't as smart as they portray themselves to be.

When did Drudge become anti-Moore? I can hardly stand his snarky headlines and photo choices.

Just cast my vote at the local church, went by another local church to view turnout. Live in a very pale rural area like most of Alabama. Pretty decent turnout, Moore wins by 4. Hear me now believe me later.

Let's see, the most expensive election in Bama history... Someone thinks something very important is at stake here. Wonder what that could be?
