I just have a feeling there is some major Storm-related announcement coming tonight.

This is already happening:

Blogger toadbile January 30, 2018 5:47 PM

Will listen to it on the radio, watching Twitter scroll the #SOTA comments. Will probably be some protests worth seeing as the DACA guests scream profanities and make us hope the podium is bullet-proof. Meh. Can look at pictures tomorrow, concentrate on the words tonight.

Anonymous trev006 January 30, 2018 5:47 PM

Maxine Waters is right not to attend... I wouldn't go as a Democratic Congressman if wild horses were dragging me.

People who think Trump is antagonizing the FBI and whipping the GOP into line just for funsies have no idea what's coming. None.

Blogger Salt January 30, 2018 5:50 PM

Trump should take the podium then turn and hand Ryan the Order to release the Memo, immediately.

Blogger Wolfman at Large January 30, 2018 5:56 PM

How long is this memo? Will Trump read out the entire thing or will just stop halfway through the speech and start laughing?

Blogger Lazarus January 30, 2018 5:56 PM

Trump will announce that skimming the swamp muck is just the beginning. Next he will drain the swamp, filter it, and burn the amoeba's. Then finally, he will dredge the swamp muck for the muck creatures, and it is then he will find out what "Red Pill" America is made of.

Blogger tublecane January 30, 2018 6:00 PM

I hope for plenty of immigration and trade talk, of course, and would appreciate anti-imperial talk, as well. But now is a very Drain the Swamp time, and I'd like another, more specific Drain the Swamp speech. Lay out for normal people the general pattern, because they're about to be drowning in detail.

Blogger Dos Voltz January 30, 2018 6:01 PM

Well, no more cable tv, no Hollyweird, no more NFL, no Superbowl. So I'm gonna grab a 12 pack of beer and make chili dip and watch the SOTU. Certainly gonna be more entertaining than all those other things I gave up.

I hope Trump has some zingers planned that will make lefty heads explode. Too bad Ginsberg won't be there, but maybe Sotomayor will stroke out!

I need to invent a drinking game I can play by my lonesome.

Anonymous Looking Glass January 30, 2018 6:04 PM

Bigger the speech, the bigger Trump steps up to the stage. This one should be fun.

Though be careful about going Blackpill on any Immigration stuff. Realize there is no deal available without the Dems completely collapsing, so Trump is going to play the "Hearts & Minds" in the Middle. Look past that, he isn't cucking on the topic. Without any viable deal possible, Trump is going to bodyslam the Left repeatedly whenever possible and extract all of the strategic value he can from the situation.

Blogger tublecane January 30, 2018 6:04 PM

Wolfman-The memo is four pages, so it's doable. But I don't know whether the format is optimal for direct recitation. Maybe it would he better if he just summarized it.

Blogger Azure Amaranthine January 30, 2018 6:05 PM

Here's hoping he makes full use of the "Bully Pulpit" to skewer America's enemies in Prime Time.

Anonymous Looking Glass January 30, 2018 6:09 PM

@10 tublecane

What he says on NAFTA is going to be the only really big "policy" stuff worth parsing. The USA is leaving NAFTA, it just matters what the exit looks like and the timing of it.

Expect some proposal for a lot of infrastructure spending. Roads, bridges, schools and police type stuff. As much as the Drain the Swamp stuff is incredibly important, he's already having his staff lay the groundwork for the 2020 campaign. "Keep America Great" or "Making American Great Again". He's been sincere in his approach of making the government actually work for the Common Man. It's why he'll do things "with heart", even if that seems like needless posturing.

Anonymous Andrew E. January 30, 2018 6:16 PM

Yes, I was planning to mute the television when Trump got to the immigration section.

Anonymous well_rolled January 30, 2018 6:20 PM

I'm guessing the first third will consist of lauding the past year's accomplishments, namely with the economy. He will likely rub the black employment numbers in Maxine Waters' face, and call out Keith Ellison for endorsing a far-left terrorist organization. His DACA expounding will be more of a tightrope walk than we might wish for. Culmination will be with the memo, which (hopefully) the God-Emperor will usurp from the cucks and read, verbatim and not redacted, to close his address.

Blogger Nate January 30, 2018 6:30 PM

Anonymous Looking Glass January 30, 2018 6:33 PM

@17 Andrew E.

I gamed out the DACA issue last year and it's ugly. For Trump's objectives, playing it purely Machiavellian is simply optimal. Which means playing both sides, even to the point of riling up his own base quite a bit. The current WH proposal is DOA in both chambers. It can't even pass the GOP House. That's intentional.

Which is why need to keep repeating:
#NoAmnesty
#BuildTheWall
#DeportThemAll

It's important.

@18. well_rolled

I expect Trump to spend a bit going "full Chad" on the Dems about Taxes & Employment. He won't be spiking the football; he'll be spiking the football in their face. Trump will go "Bigger Button" when it serves his objectives. That should be fun.

"asking they consider"

How about DEMANDING that they enforce the law? But that would be too much to ask methinks. My guess is that none of these illegals is inconvenienced in the slightest and that we never hear another word on this again from Rep. Paul Gosar. If he doesn't follow up, he's a cuck, simple as that.

Blogger bornagainpenguin January 30, 2018 7:42 PM

I'm looking forward to watching the SOTU on One America News Network (OANN) for the first time. I forget whether or not I had an account at this time last year, I think I was dependent on YouTube at the time.

I love having OANN! I watch on my Roku and get real, uncucked news from a network which doesn't hate our President. It's only $4.99 a month and IMHO highly worth it. Best of all they have functioning closed captions which I know will be slightly behind the audio but at least I have it for when I need it. Can't get that on YouTube.

Watching the Daily Ledger makes up for missing out on Bill O'Reilly too which I used to like occasionally even though he was as much a cuck as the rest of them when it comes to Trump. I guess people here know that they can catch O'Reilly on NewsMaxTV after the address for analysis? If you didn't know, yeah it's a thing and you can get the channel for free with the PlutoTV app. I know my minister best friend will be watching that--myself I'm hoping Graham Ledger does it after the address on OANN.

PS: I've noticed my comments are being spammed. I haven't been reposting them and I don't think I'm spamming. Could one of the moderators here who checks such things get me out of purgatory? Thanks!

From Twitter:
1. He won't address the memo
2. He won't address the Mueller investigation
3. He won't make a new offer on DACA
4. He may say something "eye opening" about North Korea

Last year's speech was very well-received. I expect this one will be too. Trump is very good at the speech stuff by now.

I think Trump decided to spread out all the good news into multiple positive news cycles. The first will be about SOTU (w/some possible "eye opening" North Korea development). The second will be about the memo. And based on the "Big Ugly" theory by TheConservativeTreehouse, the memo will then have a domino effect of subsequent positive news cycles for Trump.

Blogger Azure Amaranthine January 30, 2018 7:50 PM

Popeye's = Chicken = Black people = she won't be there unless it's specifically to virtue signal about diverse community, in which case she'll be surrounded by homosexuals.

Incidentally homosexuals are even more a minority in diverse (black) community, because they tend to be killed by that community. So, yeah, virtue signaling representing a community by being surrounded by its smallest and most hated minority. Sound about right?

The white hats in the Swamp had to wait until a sympathetic administration was in place before coming out of the closet. Instead of draining the swamp being a bad career choice, it is now a good career choice.

With roughly two hours left until Trump takes the podium for his first official State of the Union address, the White House has released a handful of excerpts from tonight's speech. Courtesy of Bloomberg reporters Kevin Cirilli and Jennifer Jacobs, here are the highlights:

"All of us, together, as one team, one people, and one American family," Trump will say, in one of several planned appeals for bipartisan support of his agenda
"I am extending an open hand to work with members of both parties--Democrats and Republicans--to protect our citizens, of every background, color, and creed"
"I am asking both parties to come together to give us the safe, fast, reliable, and modern infrastructure our economy needs and our people deserve."
Trump will praise American energy and the return of coal: "We have ENDED the war on American Energy – and we have ENDED the War on CLEAN COAL. We are now an exporter of energy to the world."
The president will take credit for wiping out ISIS: "Last year I pledged that we would work with our allies to extinguish ISIS from the face of the earth. One year later, I’m proud to report that the coalition to defeat ISIS has liberated almost 100 percent of the territory once held by these killers in Iraq and Syria. But there is much more work to be done. We will continue our fight until ISIS is defeated."
He will push for more infrastructure spending: "I am asking both parties to come together to give us the safe, fast, reliable, and modern infrastructure our economy needs and our people deserve."
He will praise recently enacted tax law and reductions in regulations on his watch: "Just as I promised the American People from this podium 11 months ago, we enacted the biggest tax cuts and reform in American history."
Trump will also say the U.S. has "finally turned the page on decades of unfair trade deals"
The president will cast the U.S. as a "nation of builders" hamstrung by regulations on infrastructure; "I am asking both parties to come together to give us the safe, fast, reliable, and modern infrastructure our economy needs and our people deserve"
Trump will say Americans "deserve a government that shows them the same love and loyalty in return."
He will warn about lessons from the Obama administration: "past experience has taught us that complacency and concessions only invite aggression and provocation. I will not repeat the mistakes of the past Administrations that got us into this dangerous position.”

And here is what Trump will not say:

Trump won’t announce plans to extend protections against deportation for young immigrants brought to the U.S. as children, according to an administration official.
Trump is also said not to reference Russian interference in the 2016 election, Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into possible collusion between Trump’s campaign and Russian officials, or a House Republican memo criticizing FBI, according to another person familiar with his plans.

Watch the full thing at 9pm.

I give the speech a "B." It was delivered well but he could have knocked it out of the park. Should have called the Dems out every time they refused to stand for anything remotely pro-American. It's clear the Democrats don't want to work with him so why pretend he wants to work with them? Should have called them out for hissing and booing at crimes committed by illegal aliens. Their awful behavior should have been brought to attention.

Speaking of, did you hear how lukewarm the reception was for his plan to legalize 1.8 million illegals? Literally no one wants that plan. The people who voted Trump into office don't want to give them citizenship and Dems will never support anything short of absolute amnesty - so who is he winning over, Paul Ryan? If he keeps touting this "let's meet in the middle" compromise he will get crushed in three years. The time to play 8D chess is when the opposing party controls Congress; not when you own every level of the federal government.

Speaking of controlling Congress, the one silver lining of the Democrats winning the House in 2020 is that Nancy will be on camera the entire time as House Speaker when she refuses to stand whenever Trump talks about putting America first.

It was a lesson in rhetoric and visual power. He salted the speech with hero moments that forced the Democrats to stand and acknowledge. It had to humiliate them. He then used "American Citizens" several times just to remind Democrats of their love of illegals. Also, while addressing the Republican side of the house, looked directly to their area and ignored the Democrats for the most part. The President shunned them physically by turning his back to them.

The democrats looked like petulant, pouting children.

Only for as long as Trump runs the immigration service.

Sadly, Trump is in the ame position as Obama. His positions are in force through executive orders that can be rescinded by some future Kennedy III administration.

Not that I’m blaming him; he’s doing what he needs to do. But the state of federal law increasingly depends on who the president is.

DACA proves that an unconstitutional order can make its way into law if it benefits the right people. It’s terrible, but it’s a fact of our too large and too diverse country. .

It's about optics. He knows his base would hate it, he knows the Dems won't take it, but the apolitical muddled middle won't hear anything beyond "Trump made a reasonable offer, the Dems turned it down because it didn't let in enough illegals... wait, what?" 1) Nothing is going to be passed, as the Left looks at his points as a severe compromise.
2) Some of these DACA/Dreamers are out right thugs and will be deported anyway. Some are even MS13.
3) As there will be no DACA bill that meets the standards of what the DACA people demand, they will break the law by acting out more and more, and will get deported in response.
4) As the DACA "kids" demand more and more and act out, normies will get less sympathetic.

Also, there will be much more coming out about Treason on the Left, Voter Fraud of all kinds, etc. This will play out over time.

If you followed this SOTU speech as an ordinary speech, it deserved an A- or a B+. Yet, if looked at in terms of Rhetoric setting up Leftists, and stuff said between the lines, it deserved a perfect score. He constantly made the Democrats look really bad.
Example one of many: The black members of the democratic party refusing to stand and applaud when POTUS said the unemployment for Blacks is the lowest ever. Also, catching the DIMs booing, and then introducing the parents of the slain black girls, while they were booing.

Between the lines: "Trump made a point to state he was authorising cabinet secretaries to terminate federal workers that undermine the public trust?
That's a rather huge statement. How many of you understand how many levels that statement applies?
This is going to be a massive flushing." Quote from an Anon.

Americans are not equivalent to Dreamers.

Period.

That is the fundamental point of opposition to DACA and the Dreamers.

We are NOT equivalent. That is a rhetorical mistake to suggest that we are.

WORSE, the "Americans are Dreamers, too" line suggests that we need to play catch up. We need to achieve recognition that we are in the same boat.

Anonymous CoolHand January 31, 2018 12:37 AM

You are trying REALLY hard not to see that when Trump says "Americans are Dreamers too" he's not saying that every is just like these illegal alien assholes, he's saying that there are a LOT of US Citizens who are still trying achieve the American Dream, and they deserve at least as much support as a bunch of people whose first act in coming to our nation was a felony.

He's not equating US Citizens to illegals, he's saying that while this whole shit storm is playing out we should not forget about the ACTUAL AMERICANS who are still striving for their shot at the American Dream.

Stop being so damned dense about it, everyone else gets the reference, just admit that you missed it on the first go 'round and move on.

Happens to everyone at least once (or, if you're me, once or twice a month).

Rhetoric is the set {logos, ethos, pathos}, and it's not good to get too hung up on any one of them. The problem is that you are being too smart, and much too literal, sort of like "the train is fine" guy most of us morph into occasionally for no good reason. You're hung up on interpreting everything as logos. The average IQ 100 voter won't sperg out and take it literally, they'll just "feel" it as pathos. Another thing, Rubberducky, the so-called DREAM act was almost certainly deliberately meant as a reference to the American Dream. Which was owned by Senior Americans first. Trump is just stealing it back.

Just another commenter @183 -- very nice of you to say. I have hardly been that "the train is fine" guy, but rather "the train is on fire" guy. But anyway.

Go ahead in embrace the idea that you are Dreamers, too.

Go on.

I'm not going to stop you.

Go on and be Dreamers, too.

You are quite apparently willing to stand me down and scold me for suggesting that you are not a Dreamer, Too!

Go on, folks!

Be Dreamers, Too!!!!

Everyone but you interprets that as “Your fake definitions have to go back.”.

No, that would have given the fake conservatives an excuse to stomp on their bowties and cry about Trump being a big un-Presidental meanie.

pyrrhus wrote:Yes, this "unity" ploy is becoming absurd...The Democrats not only want to impeach Trump, they are coming for his family and businesses as well. We are in a cold civil war, and everyone knows it except George Will, who probably has Alzheimers...
We are in a hot civil war (shots were fired in LV and earlier), and Trump has known it for decades.

"Americans are Dreamers, too."

Awesome, awesome line. Takes back the supposed high moral ground, reminding everyone that our first loyalty is to Americans, not illegal aliens.

You want to support Dreamers? Fine. Support American Dreamers, not foreign law breakers who've appropriated a false label to mask their illegality.

This is similar to how Trump flipped the script on "Fake News", a term invented by the MSM to bash pro-Trump stories, and anti-Hillary stories. Trump successfully stole their own rhetoric, and now uses it against them. He's doing the same thing with the term "Dreamers" - taking away the impact of their rhetoric, and employing it for his own purposes.

I can hear mid and low level Americans all over America standing up and saying, "Hell yeah! I'm a dreamer, too. How dare you support illegal aliens over me?! What about MY dreams?!"

@187-I just read an article on iSteve that had a lefty bring up the "Black Lives Matter" slogan in defense of "Dreamers," all because of Trump's rhetoric.

He's masterful at this stuff. He makes them pull their own masks off and make the most blatantly stupid arguments. Could you imagine Dubya Bush, for instance, tricking the opposition into associating a sympathetic (to some) group like Dreamers with the most politically unpopular group outside of ISIS out of the blue? Trump does this over and over again.

Get out of his way.

My only criticism is that there should have been a 5th pillar for immigration: eliminate the grant of automatic citizenship for babies born in the US by non-citizens.

No. Not at all. It wasn't me who coined them "Dreamers", I coin them criminal foreign national trespassers. That is a very accurate definition.

An NSA guy yesterday said there was 13 million fake votes for HRC, and 7 million was voting machine fraud.

deplorable rubbercucky, when you are critiquing a killshot on the enemy, don't assume that you were the target and the shooter just missed you.
