We were warned

Of course, there is a certain amount of irony in this guy citing (((Cathy Young))) in response to the problem of social justice spilling out of the universities and into everything else, including the law:
For quite a while now, readers of SJ have “informed” me that they agreed with my posts about criminal law, but hated my posts that addressed the blight of identity politics and social justice. How could I be so right about one thing and so wrong about . . . wait for it . . . JUSTICE!!!

But it wasn’t just that I was wrong, but needlessly and gratuitously wrong, since none of this had anything to do with the real world. Until it did.

For some time, a fixation on identity politics, a culture of reflexive outrage, and a scorched-earth approach to trivial transgressions have been all hallmarks of student activism and academic radicalism. They are now becoming increasingly evident in American life as a whole. In the name of defending women and ethnic and sexual minorities — all reasonable goals — progressives on and off campus are taking illiberal stances that polarize society, put a chill on free speech, and erode respect for due process.

Not long ago, tropes such as “white privilege” or “rape culture,” which reduce a vast range of social dynamics to racism and misogyny, were seldom heard outside the radical wing of the academy; today, they’ve joined the mainstream.
But let us not get caught up in the genetic fallacy. The point he and Young are making is relevant, which is that all of those little lunatics are now out of the asylums and creating havoc everywhere from the NFL to Marvel and Google.

Coming soon to a company near you, if it hasn't already.

I've got this outline for a book called "Fire All SJWS".

I really need to find some time to write that.

"social justice spilling out of the universities and into everything else, including the law"

It's best not to think of the law and universities as separate, but part of the sane thing, which we call the Cathedral. After all, lawyers, judges, lawmakers, and basically everyone involved in the legal system goes to college. They learn on the job, but under the tutelage and supervision of people who were taught to think a certain way by professors.

At the highest levels, the legal world gets ridiculously narrow. SCOTUS is entirely made up of Harvard and Yale law school attendees. Ginsberg is the only one who got her degree from outside the Harvard-Yale Duumverate, so we may as well add her alma mater and make it Harvard-Yale-Columbia ruling our nation's legal mind.

If Harvard-Yale-Columbia decides to pursue "social justice," the law *will* be obsessed with social justice. That's simple cause and effect.

Blogger Zarathustra's Bastard January 28, 2018 6:47 PM

The problem the 'moderate' left have to contend with is that they're wrong. The whole leftist project doesn't work. If people are allowed to talk about it, eventually they'll figure it out, and the left will fail.

I think leftists who advocate free speech haven't realised quite what the stakes are.

Blogger LP9 January 28, 2018 6:48 PM

Nate, please write the book! And add the t shirts.

This sickness is totally mainstreamed but Cathy is doing a serious disservice here to the youth but the rise of genetic testing is extended to even Medicaid re-cips those results deliver very uncomfy truths that even gov't care via the CDC has to report on its why we are hearing so much about SJW antics and AI, a distraction from serious genetic, IQ health deficiencies. That tech is here and given to the common forgotten person (whom voted Trump).

Forgive me in advance as I am truly sorry, Konaic and I gabbed about college a while back, the horrors of it...The 1990's college was culture shock. These days after 2016, I would motion for re-oepning the psych wards I didn't realize until Milo made it clear to me via listening to his work that our Americano colleges are the new mental health wards.

Complete with therapy/debt hoaxes built in with acedmics taken away.

Blogger LP9 January 28, 2018 6:55 PM

The matter of the SJW is blunt; American culture has a anti social bent due to social media dopamine hits, justice from human courts doesn't exist its nice to seek it but don't get your hopes up and these warriors are not warriors but frail people in masks trashing their own cities while Cathy Young says nothing. She encourages political violence, does she not?

All she talks about is rape and feminism, right so what does she have to offer, nothing but lies.

To those people who still hold Civic nationalist ideas, SJW's define whiteness by both physical and cultural characteristics inclusively. This means they are not only the enemy of white people, they are the enemy of members of any other race who carry on western Civilization.

It cannot be overstated how much of a danger these people present to the society as a whole.

Paging Betsy DeVos! A federal income tax deduction equal the the cost of private school tuition available to all people regardless of income level.

My point: create opportunities for people to opt out of the converged K-12 public school monopoly. School choice is about choice of curriculum. Currently, K-12 public school curriculums reflect the convergence.

The Academy, via teacher ed programs, has converged K-12 education. The monopolistic aspect of such forms SJW indoctrination. Choice breaks this monopoly.

Perhaps I'm naive about people choosing the right thing but I do believe that availability of choice would result in folks opting for a classical education. In fact, many would choose a Classical Christian Education.

I could be wrong.

Just write 1,000 words per day, every day. You can have a 60k novel done in two months. Your book could probably be done in 25k, as I imagine it wouldn't be a long title.

Nope, not reasonable goals. Try again.

Still, one has to give a certain amount of credit to a lawyer who publicly excoriates Social Justice under his real, legal name. That requires a certain amount of courage in the present environment, even if he still buys into a portion of the Narrative.

For those in charge of hiring, the following tips may still help avoid the worst (only really if the hiring people are not themselves SJWs - my company's HR director runs from SJW types):

- Use a temp agency for entry-level positions to try and weed out SJWs
- Use the interview process to try and identify SJWs without being obvious about it
- Follow the news about SJW idiocy at colleges and keep a mental list of places to never hire from (personally I will never hire anyone from an Ivy League unless the work experience wows me)
- Prefer work experience to a college degree
- Stick to hires who stayed at a previous employer at least 5 years
- If a college graduate must be hired, prefer older candidates and those with a degree in something useful
- The less college completed the better (Associates > Bachelors > Masters > Doctorate)

I would not recommend that anyone go to college unless their career choice required it, and even then, I would be highly selective of which schools to recommend. If I was doing this all over again, I would take a far different path than the one I did, which led to 2 bachelors degrees and a masters, none of which has ever mattered a fig in my work career.

Anonymous a deplorable rubberducky January 28, 2018 10:43 PM

The first time I ever heard the phrase "social justice" was back in the 1980s. From young lawyers fresh out of law school. They were tax lawyers, too. They would tell me that the tax laws were the ultimate tool for social justice, and this is why I should admire them. Felt like punching them, tho.

This may be too difficult for many children of average and lower, and too inflexible for many others.  On the other hand, we could hardly do worse than the relentless lowering of standards behind NCLB and Common Whore.  The curriculum taught in one-room schoolhouses by graduates of Normal Schools worked, turning out people with many important skills and competencies in just 6 years; our current K-12 nonsense patently does not.

@24  One wag said that "social" is a modifier meaning "not":  social justice, social work, social studies....

Justice modified isn't justice at all. Social justice is unjust, because of the adjective.

Blogger tublecane January 29, 2018 12:28 AM

@28-That's exactly what a weasel words do: deprive word of meaning. The expression is based on the supposed ability of weasels to suck out the contents of an egg, leaving the shell intact. "Social" is a weasel that sucks the meaning out of "justice," "studies," etc.

If you ignore the exponentially increasing context-switching costs of doing something complicated in small chunks over a long period of time, sure.

This is even better, wow!:

(3) If you flounder, do not expect your teachers to help you unless you have the proper complexion for it. If you are nonwhite and thus fashionably complexioned, educators can get bureaucratic brownie points by treating your mind as “a terrible thing to waste”; bending over backwards to help you makes them look good to their superiors in the bureaucracy. But if you are White, then you are highly likely to be deemed (a) automatically guilty of “White privilege”, (b) an undeserving beneficiary of US colonialism who needs to be punished for the unspeakable effrontery of your existence to the rest of mankind, and (c) justly destined for demographic genocide as “more deserving” immigrants from overpopulated Third World cesspools, transported here using what little money you may have succeeded in accumulating, rightfully displace you from your ancestral homeland and the human gene pool.

https://www.quora.com/What-would-be-your-advice-for-highly-intelligent-youth-who-have-lost-academic-motivation-as-a-result-of-being-unchallenged/answer/Chris-Langan-7

I have thirty years of relatively high-profile experience with this. The minds of most atheists are cognitive wind-up toys which absolutely cannot be swayed by any theory, model, or form of reasoning which even smells like it might confute their (anti)theological preconceptions. Wind them up by mentioning the possible existence of God, and their minds instantly spiral into an infinite loop.

https://www.quora.com/Would-an-atheist-believe-in-God-if-he-she-found-proofs-beyond-a-doubt-of-Gods-existence/answer/Chris-Langan-7

It follows that an atheist who considers himself “rational” has no choice but to deny that justice exists in any necessary sense, thus voiding any responsibility to explain its absence. And as the concept of justice flies out the window, so does any enforceable basis for morality, thus reducing phrases like “moral atheist” and “atheistic morality” to meaninglessness.

https://www.quora.com/If-you-are-not-accountable-after-death-you-can-do-whatever-you-want-to-and-get-away-with-it-How-do-atheists-defend-this-void-of-justice/answer/Chris-Langan-7

Because even the very best and most capable of them can be easily crushed by anyone who knows what he’s doing. As any high-profile theist can attest, the closest the atheists have ever come to a coherent “theory of atheism” is the “theory” of insult, defamation, and dirty polemics to which so many of them resort after coming up short against someone more skilled at theological argumentation.

Their internal policies aren't enough. They're coming for your company's too, even if you don't hire them.
