A new blog policy

As most of you are aware, I don't have a lot of free time these days. To say that I am "busy" doesn't really quite do the concept justice. I'm behind on practically everything with the exception of  Alt★Hero, Avalon, Jeeves, and Quantum Mortis. So, let's just say my ability to tolerate idiocy is not at its peak right now.

Now, my tolerance for Gamma behavior is never high. But in the last few weeks, my understanding of a specific Gamma tactic deepened a little when I noticed something: no matter what the subject is, from immigration to free trade to free speech, certain critical commenters ALWAYS attempt to somehow make the debate about ME. I had never previously stopped to think about why they do this. But this time, when I finally took the time to think the matter through, I realized what their game was: trying to win an argument through an appeal to the genetic fallacy. It's a passive-aggressive variant of the classic SJW discredit and disqualify game.

This is a stupid and futile approach. But then, these are stupid and futile people. Consider this incredible protest of my actions:
"I refuse to tolerate critics who insist, every single fucking time, attempting to personalize these topics and make them about me, any longer."

Vox, you personalized the topic first when you refused to answer my questions on the ground that they were "stupid," and that I "ask lots of stupid questions." You didn't even bother to explain what was stupid about these supposedly stupid questions. You just declared them stupid, and that was that.

You're delusional if you think that isn't getting aggressively personal. And, ok, you can do that. I don't really mind. But of course if you behave that way toward me, then I'm going to behave that way toward you. And you're in no moral position at all to complain about it, because you started it--*you* set the personal tone. I was only responding to the tone that you set.
Oh, did I? Read the questions. Notice who, rather than what, is the subject of most of them.

Anyhow, let me make this new policy perfectly clear for everyone. If your argument is about me rather than the topic, if you attempt to address a macro topic by referring to me as a micro counterexample, or if you attempt to bring me up in any way as the basis, relevant or irrelevant, of your argument, I am going to delete your comment. If you do it more than once, I will spam you.

Example: Vox emigrated from the United States, therefore all immigration, past and present, is necessarily beneficial and desirable. Futhermore, any observation of problems that may be caused by the mass migration of tens of millions of people is automatically negated by the fact that Vox himself does not presently reside in his city of birth.

Such arguments are stupid, irrelevant, and illogical. And I am simply not going to continue to waste any more time spelling out, again and again, why this form of argument is a complete non-starter that can never even possibly prove anything.

There is absolutely nothing that I do or say that bears any significance whatsoever with regards to the intrinsic morality, justice, or legitimacy of an action, a policy, a regulation, a law, a historical pattern, or a probability. I am not the measure of all things. So stop trying to present arguments on that basis!

BRAVO!

The pursuit of knowledge is connected to ethics. Truth is the primary goal in the former, and one of the primary goals in the latter.

Bad arguments, like coming from a SJW, strike me as dishonest. This is a source of lawyer jokes by the way.

A honest person can make a bad argument. But it is much more likely for a dishonest person to make one.

Blogger crazyivan498 March 10, 2018 8:58 PM

The gamma in this case is simply projecting. He thinks everything is about himself so you must think the same way in his delusional mind

Blogger Dave March 10, 2018 9:00 PM

The dead giveaway was when he stated he only had a few questions, then proceeded to pop 10 questions out in one post.

Then it was all how dare you call his questions stupid, why you're just a poopy head, you can't support your position that's the only reason you won't respond.

Perhaps he will continue to just read the blog and learn something but I doubt it.

The Tu Quoque fallacy is annoying for similar reasons. This is why I find elections frustrating. If you call attention to candidate X's bad behavior, you often get a rejoinder that candidate Y is worse. Which makes sense in the context of being forced to vote X or vote Y, but otherwise is a logical fallacy.

The world's going to hell and people sit around trying to prove one man wrong using gotcha questions? I've really started to appreciate why you shoot traitors before enemies.

Blogger Uncle John's Band March 10, 2018 9:11 PM

The whole I'm just an honest dealer in questions shtick is tiresome too, when it is followed by a selective misreading of what was written as a way to just repeat the same questions that have been answered ad nauseam.

Anonymous Anonymous March 10, 2018 9:23 PM

@Anno Ruse: You said, "The world's going to hell and people sit around trying to prove one man wrong using gotcha questions?".

I recall there was this carpenter from Nazareth, some gamma assholes used to do that to him all the time.

It is a testament to the Dark Lord's patience that he waited this long to crack down on these idiots.

Blogger Dave March 10, 2018 9:25 PM

So if you can't answer those questions, Vox, then your position is totally unserious. It's just tough-talking bluster that you do not have the resources in the real world to back up at all, and the consequences of which you have not thought through."

We should call it the Mohawk Fallacy.

The Gospels, especially Luke, actually have an amazingly about of subtext humor when you understand how the Socio-Sexual hierarchy works. I'm still wondering what the 30 AD equivalent to flannel and wire-rimmed glasses was.

My favourite blogs I visit it's the comments section I enjoy the most. However the more popular a blog becomes the more the comments degrade in quality. Take Zero Hedge for example. Years ago the comments section were full of insightful and educated comments. Now? It's an utter cesspool. Briebart? It started off OK but now it's nonsense.

I don't post here because I know for the most part I'm not adding anything other than noise.

If all you're doing is adding noise please stop. Most productive people have very little spare time & little patience for reading nonsense.

If you do feel the need to talk about nonsense - start your own goddamn blog. Don't pollute a successful one trying to get attention. What are you? A teenage girl?

Lastly, I've witnessed numerous forums & blogs brought down by trolls. If you're a valued contributor here please please don't encourage trolls. They destroy everything they infest just like socialism always destroys.

The people you refer to are weak. We all know that there could be a major shift in direction and we could all become targets. But instead of trying to cover our tracks or present plausible deniability, we on the alt-right know this just means yet another phase. We aren't in this for personal gain. It's something much, much deeper.

Not arguing, but I was wondering where you and the family would go if the five star folks decided to kick out all the foreign nationals. (I have no idea how likely or unlikely that would be, probably very unlikely, but the thought did occur.) I hear Norway is nice (for now).

Thank you for that link. I was unaware of it. I like what I've seen of it so far.

Vox family have been informally accepted by their village folk. This level of governance supersedes any "national" directives in Italy.

Maybe it's not much consolation, but every critic who has started problems here has been roasted to a charred husk. To me it's become a great pleasure in life, watching some hapless troll throw out a silly little argument that he thinks is profound, only to be completely shut down, humiliated, and discredited.

So there's at least the fact that they look like buffoons to readers. I'm sure even other left wing trolls are taken aback by how stupid their comrades end up looking.
Though it must be extremely annoying and tedious dealing with disruptive idiot after disruptive idiot.

This is at the center of some of the most pernicious psy op stuff on the internet right now. Category errors like this, confusing the one for the many and the many for the one, snare many people. It's because they've successfully denied stereotype as a legitimate object. Meaning is now accepted as being defined by a strict set of rules (who makes these) instead of shared experience.

I hate it.

Blogger pyrrhus March 10, 2018 11:46 PM

Long overdue policy. Ad hominem attacks are neither valid nor worthy of toleration.

Blogger S. Thermite March 11, 2018 1:52 AM

Bravo. I think a corollary to this gamma need to make things personal, is that it can be used as fairly effective rhetorical weapon against them (like VD being a MENSA member and a Amerindian/POC). Recently an older liberal musician friend got triggered by funny meme I re-posted on social media about issuing handguns to teachers and suppressed handguns to librarians. He asserted that if he was a teacher he could never shoot one of his students, so the idea of arming teachers seemed ludicrous. Rather than arguing with him about the ridiculousness of not being willing to shoot one deranged student to save himself and all his other students, I pointed out that (1) my father was a teacher and I don't think teachers should be expected to be willing to die defenselessly cornered in a classroom if they're willing to have a CCW and (2) one of my brothers is a cop, and would be expected to show-up ready to shoot a violent student when their teacher dials 911. In the grand scheme of things, the vocations of my father and brother don't count for anything, but they sure can shut-up an irrational bleeding-heart liberal who wants to make things personal.

I agree with this policy by Vox. It will be good for him and for the blog.

But I must admit, I kinda enjoy watching the tolls get roasted. Sometimes I even learn a thing or two from all the rejoinders.

Blogger GithYankee March 11, 2018 8:49 AM

Amen. What does anything about Vox Day shoe size or gps location have to do with discussing a larger political issue; it might add to or it might inhibit discussion.

Personal experience can be a springboard to a greater understanding, but is often as enjoyable as listening to someone describe their dreams of the night before.

You'll often see this in large group meetings of a company, where the manager talks about improving customer service, and the cashiers then chime in with stories about their worst customers. Then hate the manager for steering the conversation back to improving service, not whining about personal exceptions and experience. (definitely not a personal anecdote)

Blogger Avalanche March 11, 2018 10:22 AM

@14 "If all you're doing is adding noise please stop. Most productive people have very little spare time & little patience for reading nonsense."

Which is why I email to a select list what I call "culled comments" -- it's heartening to my "hate group" (we're not) to read some of Vox's words, and some writings by you (few) wildly intelligent and thoughtful commenters... I read all the comments and pull out the especially good ones (in my view), so my friends/co-wokes can benefit in their short availability.

I'm the only one I know who has the time to do that. I don't really but, now that my husband has died, reading here is my educator. I must admit to ruefully telling someone that I'm beginning to conclude I'm a midwit, even despite my actual IQ. Between my husband's brilliance ( http://master-morality.blogspot.com/ ); Vox's (similar) depth, breadth, and width of knowledge, memory, and education; and listening to a lot of Jordan Peterson's very high intelligence (even with his liberal leanings and occasional seeming foolishness), I'm feeling quite outclassed!

(Or, it could just be I'm a girl! {sigh})

Blogger Matthew March 11, 2018 1:01 PM

What people don't realize is just how pleasant Vox is being. Markku and I would gladly delete anyone who annoys us in the slightest. I'm sure I could work up some justification for it based on preventing dumbasses from taking up any of Vox's time, but the truth is... I don't like reading stupidity and/or lies.

Blogger Dirk Manly March 11, 2018 1:16 PM

Vox isn't saying that we don't get to use idiots and morons as chew toys. He's saying that he's not tolerating the Genetic Fallacy ("Due to your personal situation, this argument you are making can't possibly true if you're the one making it.").

Blogger Dirk Manly March 11, 2018 1:23 PM

@26

I'm just past 50, and I'm fed up with entertaining fools, and even moreso, evil, wicked people pretending to be fools.

It's gotten to the point when someone starts spouting the "my reality / your reality" nonsense, I stomp on their foot, and when the complain, mock them about how the action is merely a part THEIR reality, not my reality.

It's great with any sort of observers, because NOBODY can make an accusation stick without admitting that there is only one reality, which is consensual reality, and that "my reality" can't exist because private realities don't exist.

Although I appreciate you treating your readers with sufficient respect to make a statement like this, for what it's worth, I don't think you need to bother.
