Infogalactic update

We made some major changes to the Infogalactic structure yesterday. While most of the work is interior stuff that will not be readily apparent to the user, we have significantly expanded our storage and processing capabilities while reducing our monthly burn rate by about one-third. This means that we are running about twice as fast and about 2.7 times more efficiently than before, while giving us considerably more control over our backend.

What this means, as you will see, is that our search time has been cut in half again. Just copy and paste :i vox day into the search bar of Brave and you will see what I mean.

Thanks very much to the Burn Unit, who continue to keep Infogalactic moving forward. And you should not fail to note that the Planetary Knowledge Core is actively updating itself, as even recent events such as March Madness 2018 are already documented online.

It seems much faster to me. And https has been fixed! Some how my Websense filter at work kept breaking https on infogalactic.

Awesome news. Btw, the Infosextant extension seems to be missing from the Chrome store. I made one recently and pushed it onto the Chrome store this morning.

The listing is very bare-bones, and I need to add some screenshots. But it does the basic job. Also, it's slightly different in that Infosextant automatically redirects, while this allows you to flip back-and-forth between them.

Gonna tweak it either this weekend or next to make it redirect to IG by default (and, obviously, not redirect you back to IG if you flick over to wikipedia).

After that, I want to add a feature so that you can easily grab the (formatted) text of a Wiki page and add it to IG, if the page is missing. This was the main pain-point for me with Infosextant. I had to keep opening pages in Incognito so that i could get to the wiki page, if it wasn't on IG (or was out-of-date on IG). My hope is that it'll be much easier for people to contribute to IG this way.

It just keeps getting better. A nonsense search still bogs it down, but that's easier to avoid with autocomplete.

just wanted to read up on something related to the latest BS post and IG does seem to be alot faster and more responsive than before, even when using the sextant (was an issue before). very nice work! I wish IG was available in Swedish as well so I could completely skip wikipedia, any plans for that in the short-medium term?

@Rory an option for the FF version of it would be super! (hint hint, nudge nudge)

Does the burn unit currently sustain Infogalactic's cashflow needs, or are more burn unit members needed?

More members are always desirable, but we are doing all right for now due to our increased efficiencies and economies.
