So look what I found

I uncovered four old videotapes a few weeks ago. Originally there were six, and unfortunately the missing two were of my 1997 interview with Umberto Eco, but what I found contained about two hours of unique footage of interviews and public interactions with the great dottore. I arranged to get them digitized for use in a potential future Voxiversity, or perhaps even a documentary. Here is one screencap from the last tape, which shows Doctor Eco with Spacebunny and me at St. John's University.

I straight up didn't realize that was you until I got to the last line.

Hopefully you're able to find the other two, at some point. Digitizing and storing stuff online can have amazing uses in the future.

Also, you're definitely dressed like you're in Minnesota.

Spacebunny is a very lifelike puppet. I didn't know you had that level of technology 20 years ago.

@4 Nathan Bissonette

Given the way the light & image quality are, the jacket also looks about 5 sizes too large for Vox.

Spacebunny must be near 6 feet tall.

Its strange seeing Vox with hair.

I've just read one book by Eco, "The Name of the Rose," and enjoyed it. Never followed up with more. My mistake!

Some regrets about not following up on curiosity, or interests. Fecund pathways left behind to still birth, sad lack of growth.

It's as if they just walked off the set of Fargo.

The glimpses of your private life are certainly intriguing. However, thus far, nothing tops the tutu, not even the flaming sword or mohawk cut.

So cool.

why does Ivan Reitman have his arm around your wife?

I'd love to see any old photos of your Waxtrax days with Jourgenson et al. I was thinking of the connections in that I am a longtime fan of the Legendary Pink Dots (who collaborated with Skinny Puppy, who collaborated with Jourgensen, who was at the same production company during Vox's music days).

Eco could've been anything from a Cardinal to an Admiral to an Intellectual and anything in between.

You could hide three MP5's under that jacket and no one would know.

I'm guessing Vox was around 28 years old in that picture. and still has a good head of hair.

When did you start losing it, VD? I'd already lost most of mine by that age.

One of my favorite authors. Would love to hear the back story. How did you meet him, and get him to do a long interview? Can we read the interview somewhere?

Blogger Daniel March 16, 2018 12:45 PM

Must have been right before you bleached.

VD...I'm curious. Was Dr. Eco your inspiration to learn Italian, or did you discover his writings while learning the language? I apologize if the question has been answered before in older postings.

...and now that I actually write it on the computer screen... Doctor Eco sounds like a great pulp character name.

Voxiversity vaporwave edition.

@20 I found this with a quick google search:

I might have to spring for Voxiversity, if Vox Day puts up the full interview there.

Very cool.

VD, you and I had the same haircut/glasses combo then as we do now. Getting old may not be a sin, but it is damn inconvenient.

My reaction was: TWENTY years ago!!!

(And Spacebunny must have a painting in the attic that shows her getting older and older!!)
