Inadvertent special edition

We made a minor error and a slightly more serious one on the initial printing of the Rebel Dead Revenge teaser. You can see the former in this photo from a happy Arkhaven supporter. Another Arkhaven supporter shared his thoughts.
The postman took his sweet time, but I am finally able to comment on the second issue of Arkhaven's Dixon/Kwapisz adaptation of Wodehouse, and I continue to be impressed. Margins are better this time out (my only quibble last time, IIRC), coloring remains marvelous (no page 1 credit for the colorist, or is that Gary doing double duty?), Chuck's script hits all the right notes, and Gary's art is absolutely delightful. I think I may prefer Cartoony Gary to Representational Gary - the exaggerated body language is fantastic. There's a meatiness to these comics - I don't sail through them like I used to with a Mark Millar Wolverine (a three-minute read, maybe), and they're worth going back over. And of course - Gold Logo. Can't beat owning a collector's item. Or three.
Now, if you look at the gold logo on RDR in the picture linked above, you can see there is a sliver of the main image in between it and the black border. That is a mistake and we corrected it almost immediately, but 64 copies were sold and shipped before we caught it. The image now on the store, and on Amazon, correctly displays the cover the way it is now.

That initial set also printed with a slightly higher than optimal ink density, which can cause some very slight warping or wrinkling on the interior pages. This has also been fixed. In any event, if you've got one of them, you now have confirmation that you own one of the first 64 copies of Rebel Dead Revenge.

Supporter of alt hero here. How goes the progress? Im not being pushy, well not tryinf to be at least, im just stoked for it.

Sweet a collector's item already.

We just finished the colors for AH001. Lettering, and then we go to print/digital. AH002 is illustrated and is being colored now, as is its cover.

Stories are strong, graphics are great, and if you like what we've done to date, you are really going to love these.

To me the logo thing was almost not worth changing.

But incorrect ink density on the cover? How does that happen?

But incorrect ink density on the cover? How does that happen?

It's the same ink density as on all the previous comics. But due to the heavy use of black ink on the RDR cover, it proved to be a little too much. This is an art, not a science. We don't know what the real limits are until we push them.

You have stated it is somewhat a trial and error process, but one would hope the printer would be of more assistance in identifying those kind of issues beforehand. Unless they're just following orders.

I got one of the 64! Thank you, Vox. This is great.

@#7139, lucky.

When I have the means to do so, I'll be making a bulk order of hard copies. I plan to give them as a graduation present to the year-ape's school library.

If printing becomes a continuous issue, I have some connections in that arena that might be of service to the cause.

I got three of the 64.

Just discovered Kai Wai Cheah's books (impressed), and already read through a couple of Chuck Dixon's books including, of course, "Gomers" and thought I didn't even like zombie books, but...exceptions, ya know.

Kai Wai Cheah's books would make excellent comics and graphic novels.

Blogger Valiant April 21, 2018 11:09 PM

Sweet I got 5 of the 64.

Blogger Valiant April 21, 2018 11:13 PM

I know this is a devious plan to sell more. Heh. I purchased 5 more of the new ones too.

The ink density issue was with the interior, not the cover.

Industry standard has long been to have a maximum of 240% for the combined CMYK inks. For Castalia House covers we've been pushing far beyond that for quite a while, with no problems (because Ingram's printing tech is awesome).

In our initial tests with QM and Right Ho Jeeves, I used higher than 240 on the interior just to see what would happen. It looked good and caused no physical problems.

But Rebel Dead Revenge is a dark comic, literally and figuratively. The high ink density that worked for the lightly colored Right Ho Jeeves caused problems with RDR. We were aware this might happen, and we had a 240% color profile ready.

Blogger Matthew April 21, 2018 11:52 PM

And yes, Gary is the drawer, inker, colorist, and letterer for Right Ho, Jeeves.

Inadvertent special editions are the best kind. :D

Great art on the Wodehouse, reminiscent of the heyday of MAD.

When is the third issue coming out on kindle?

I keep saying this and I will never tire: keep up the good work, VD.

May other Christian nationalists follow the example and create/support alternatives.

Blogger Dave April 22, 2018 12:26 PM

Matthew and VD: good inside baseball talk. Your candor is refreshing. As you know, Andrew McCabe got his ass fired for his lack of candor, especially under oath. We commend the God Emperor and you for the commitment to openness and transparency.

And almost as importantly, I'll now be checking Kindle all night for the release of the latest issue of the dark comic, RDR#3.
