Politics trumps money

Keep this incident in mind the next time some moron tries to tell you that Corporate America wouldn't do something because it would cost them money:
ABC, in a stunning move, has decided to cancel its Roseanne revival following star Roseanne Barr's racist tweet Tuesday.

"Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show," ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said Tuesday.

Early Tuesday, star, head writer and exec producer Barr attacked Valerie Jarrett, a senior adviser to former President Barack Obama, in a since-deleted tweet in which she said "Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj." Barr subsequently apologized: "I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me — my joke was in bad taste."

Walt Disney Co. CEO Bob Iger also weighed in on the decision to cancel Roseanne: "There was only one thing to do here, and that was the right thing," he tweeted.

Showrunner Bruce Helford added in a statement of his own: "On behalf of all the writers and producers, we worked incredibly hard to create an amazing show. I was personally horrified and saddened by the comments and in no way do they reflect the values of the people who worked so hard to make this the iconic show that it is."

Barr's tweet prompted a massive outcry across social media, with thousands condeming the actress-comedian's comments and calling on ABC to cancel her series. The Disney-owned network's decision to cancel the comedy marked the first time the network has taken action in response to one of Barr's controversial tweets.

Axing the Roseanne revival was no small decision for ABC. The rebooted comedy debuted its nine-episode run midseason and finished as the TV season's No. 1 scripted series on all of broadcast. Roseanne had been averaging a 5.5 rating among adults 18-49 and 19.3 million viewers with live-plus-3 lifts. With a full week of time-shifting, those numbers climbed to a 6.4 rating in the key demo and 22.1 million viewers. Either way, Roseanne was the highest-rated and most watched series of the broadcast season, eclipsing NBC's This Is Us and CBS' Big Bang Theory — which had been in a heated battle for top status.
The SJWs now running Corporate America will throw away tens of millions of dollars in order to virtue-signal against a single tweet. That is the new reality. That is the corporate cancer.

Not ironically the ones hardest hit will not be the wealthy Barr, but the fledgling trans and black actors and actresses who are new to the show.

I'm sure they will be thrilled that they got 9 episodes before the show went off the rails. I'm sure big Hollywood will take care of them.

Blogger Al Du Clur May 29, 2018 4:43 PM

Big Jew has shown yet again that they will not allow the right (especially if white) free speech while the left can say anything it wants. This move was just rubbing whites nose in it. Will this be enough to get whites in mass to cut the cord or will the eternal live of circuses win out?

Blogger Curlytop May 29, 2018 4:46 PM

Another network will pick it up...maybe Fox?
Never been a fan of the show but when the news hit that ABC wanted Barr to tone it down a few weeks back, well...if I were an enterprising business woman, I'd want to figure out a way to get out of the contract too, so I could shop around my hit TV show to a friendlier platform.

Gosh darn, Roseanne spoke the unspeakable truth on Twitter. How did that happen?

Blogger Mark Stoval May 29, 2018 4:50 PM

I guess I would never make it past episode 2. I have often called all people "monkeys with tools". I forget where I first saw that line, but it was long ago. Back when comedians could say funny things rather that the crap they spew today.

I wonder if ABC will fire everyone that works for them when they make an anti-white statement, joke, or reference. ABC would never be hypocritical would they?

I'm not surprised. This is the attitude that you are going to see from the current Great American Corporation, where they eye is always on the stock price and there is no accountability toward real value. The SJW convergence at major corporations is a symptom of the lack of accountability created by the fact that even at the top level, the people in charge are not held to account by a large individual stockholder or group of stockholders with skin in the game, but instead by mutual fund money managers who know nothing about the investments they manage. The doesn't seem to be any accountability to the realities because there is nobody holding the executives feet to the fire and backbones are something that American business has lost.

No kidding.

Sheldon and Leonard from the Big Bang Theory started off on Roseanne. I am willing to bet and even payup that every new actor on that show thought he had found the Wonka bar with the Golden Ticket.

I never liked this model, whether Last Man Standing or the Roseanne reboot.

One show that would have had potential was the proposed spinoff from the Office about Dwight Schrute's beet farm. The character was all set to marry a young, pretty, homemaking milkmaid and with his siblings run a farm. But they axed it before it got off the ground because no show can be allowed that treats traditionalist types unironically or as anything other than at best lovable but hopelessly backward people. Instead they had Dwight marry this gross, foul-mouth cat lady shrew called Angela. An unironic comedy about rural traditional America would be a smash hit. It would destroy just like the Passion of the Christ did.

Just in time to go with this post comes the posting of a reader comment over at Chateau Heartists.

I loved this one:

"Decent people view an apology as a positive gesture and usually reciprocate with the same level of generosity and good faith.

Leftists however view any apology as (1) an admission of Guilt and (2) a sign of Weakness that needs to be exploited.

Never apologize to Leftists.

This is one of the big reasons Donald Trump drives the Left into such a frothing rage. He never apologizes, never admits guilt and appears to have no sense of shame whatsoever — and he keeps getting away with it no matter how loudly they scream and stomp their feet. Their entire schtick revolves around shame and guilt: when the Commander in Chief refuses to go along with their show trial, it shows just how impotent they really are."

https://heartiste.wordpress.com/2018/05/29/president-trumps-amused-mastery/

It is this "amused mastery" of Trump that we all need to adopt. Called names for something you said? F'em.

"That is the new reality. That is the corporate cancer."

Yes, but cancer can take a long time to kill the patient. This is just the extended "long walk through the institutions". They rely on the short memories of the voters and the inability of people to connect cause with effect. Plus, it doesn't hurt that you can get the taxpayers to subsidize whatever is losing money. Like bank bailouts, just with the media. Hey, ABC and CNN are too big to fail. Now that Twitter is a political platform, some judge can rule that any news source has to be maintained because muh democracy.

Blogger Snidely Whiplash May 29, 2018 5:18 PM

In 1968, the highest rated, and highest grossing show on television was The Beverly Hillbillies, a show in which a bunch of uneducated and uncultured rednecks strike it rich and move to Beverly Hills. The fish-out-of-water plots, usually involving grasping mediocrities trying to steal their money, were resolved by the Clampett family's native intelligence, good humor, folk wisdom and often their innocence.
It was cancelled.

Blogger NO GOOGLES May 29, 2018 5:23 PM

Sucks for Roseanne Barr, but the more hit series that they cancel the better it is for everyone else: because they will go bankrupt faster.

Dunno why she bothered to apologize - it's not like that helped the situation either way.

Blogger Mister Excitement May 29, 2018 5:26 PM

One of the things that always bothered me about Conservatism was its slavish devotion to Corpocracy and Wall Street.

I watched for 20 years on Free Republic the Boomer Cons explain away one instance of Corporate shenanigans after another.

Their default setting was some form of "well, it's a private company, they can do what they want with their money."

Blogger NO GOOGLES May 29, 2018 5:29 PM

@3 Actually this is a good point.

I don't think Barr had that outcome in mind when tweeting, but might as well make lemonade. Fox is only maybe a decade at most behind the other broadcast corps in convergence but that may well be enough to get them to pick up the series. After all, I doubt much of her core audience are the rabid left wing idiots that would stop watching a show they liked over a single tweet.

This may well be ABC's repetition of BBC's Top Gear debacle.

Don't they know that even if a white man would be inclined to let it slide, they're all weenies?

*"Representation" being their term for the reorganization of society along lines dictated by the Diversity Totem Pole. Presently involving mostly the dispossession of white males. But they'll come for others, too.

If you're a certain kind of person, you can't insult another kind of person. Maybe not at all, but definitely not in particular ways .That's one of our class distinctions.

Probably the stupidest class system ever. Unless your goal is to destroy Western civilization, in which case it's excellent.

Blogger tublecane May 29, 2018 5:44 PM

Diznee is Satanic, of course. But I didn't think they were this stupid.

They could at least have waited until the propaganda machine got whirring and started a feedback loop. Then they can tell their shareholders "our hands were tied."

This was barely even a thing yet. Heck, They were going to let Joe Paterno coach out the season when Sanduskygate blew, and that was about kiddie rape. Took time for people to riot about it, then he was gone.

Would anyone at all have torn down statues of Roseanne, if they exist, for the honor of Valerie Jarrett? No.

Blogger Doktor Jeep May 29, 2018 5:46 PM

Nolte over in Breitbart has already virtue signaled that ABC was right to cancel the show. Always good for a conservative to remind us why they always lose. Unfortunately, there is no downside to ABC canceling their top rated show unless in mass viewers abandon the network because they realize that the cancellation is really an attack against them. Unfortunately, people still crave circuses.

Twitter banned Milo and that had no repercussion so it was easier to ban others. Kicking the Daily Stormer off the web didn't blow up on the Jews so soon it will be open season on anyone who is a thought criminal. Maybe that day of reckoning has already come for Z Man. Canceling Last Man Standing and no push back just made it easier to cancel Roseanne.

My take is Roseanne is the JBP of sitcoms. The show was textbook Hegelian dialectic aimed at Trump supporters.

I also think what happened today was a staged stunt, either ABC and Roseanne planned it together in order to further shame Trimp supporters who watched the show and publicly supported it, or Roseanne had lost creative control and was trying to get out of a contract.

I am leaning toward Roseanne working with ABCto both dupe and character assassinate Trump supporters.

Why would Disney/ABC ever allow a show on air in that paints Trump supporters in a positive light?

The show itself was a mess.

Roseanne had built up enough goodwill with contacts over a lifetime in the industry & being a part of The Tribe herself. But that doesn't fully protect her. [I accidentally posted this on the wrong thread. Because idiocy. Forgive me. Here it is again on the right thread. I hope]

Please, I think a lot of this is getting stuck in people's prior commitments.

Yes, Roseanne Barr is a wildly unlikely vehicle who is deeply flawed. The exact same thing can be said about Donald Trump. Or Milo. Heck, anybody, really. She just put some stuff out on Twitter, got her show cancelled, everybody associated with it potentially unemployed, got delisted from her talent agency, and cost ABC millions.

Over one tweet that SJWs objected to because racism. She said Valerie Jarrett is what happens when the Muslim Brotherhood and the Planet of the Apes have a baby. And that, by the way, is HILARIOUS on stilts!

Recall that for eight years the Left made sport of calling George Bush a smirking chimp whenever possible. Put your personal feelings about Bush aside. Also, for the past two years the Left has made sport of calling Donald Trump the Orange Orangutan.

So here we have Leftists comparing whites to primates with impunity every day forever. And, when one day one white punches back in kind with ONE TWEET? Well, it's time to end careers and set up CNN panels to wonder how far up this goes. Trump and all Trump supporters are indicted and listed as accomplices and blamed.

Sorry. No.

White people need to put an end to this bs. Today. Every cuck out there walked out and shamed himself. John Nolte of Breitbart, who ought to know better, even came out with f-bombs as he cursed the error of one Roseanne Barr. As if she was EVER a perfect vessel.

And this is how the Left keeps up its tyrannical regime. They cry racism and the entire right falls to its bended knee to say, "No, say it's not so!" Even when the Left itself has been going around committing the EXACT same crime for decades and heaped it on even today along the way.

Pull your damned heads out, Americans.

Fight back.

This incident serves to reinforce the "Trump supporters are ignorant 'racists' " narrative for progs, while generating interest and controversy. Blogger tublecane May 29, 2018 11:46 PM

@47- Not akin to Peterson, for even if Roseanne is controlled opposition (I don't really think so; I think Hollywood would prefer her to be like the rest of them), it's not like she came out of nowhere. She has a long, long history of public lefty feminism.

Certainly some people think she's one of them simply because she likes Trump, is hip to Q, and identifies as blue-collar. But unlike with Peterson, the slightest bit of looking into her would reveal the truth. It's not hidden.

Blogger Dire Badger May 29, 2018 11:51 PM

What gets me is that Rosie gets nailed to a cross for making a very silly joke, and yet someone like Steven Lynch writes a comedy song where he graphically describes molesting, kidnapping, poisoning, dismembering and cannibalising children on Halloween and it's HILARIOUS.

(Don't believe me? The halloween song)
It's time to burn it down.

Blogger tublecane May 29, 2018 11:58 PM

@70- Addendum to the above post: I think Roseanne is a genuine Trump fan, but her show is using her a bit like a useful idiot. Because as someone said above: Hegelian dialectic.

Hollywood realizes at some level it can't be all lefty all the time. It needs to bring opposites together to create dramatic frisson. So the sisters on the show are written to be at eachother's throats because one's a Trumper and the other wears a pussy hat. The audience gets a kick from the representation of real-world political differences, and half or so of them enjoy seeing their side represented for once.

Amidst the drama, they make pretty much every underlying message leftist, because that's who they are. The resolution to the drama is probably always leftist. And they slip in things like a transvestite grandkid and a black granddaughter as if they're normal.

Roseanne I think is a bit less of a caricature than Archie Bunker or Alex P. Keaton were. But she serves the same purpose.

I was just saying she's not like Peterson because she didn't come out of nowhere. She has a track record. People know to trust her at their peril, if they know anything about her.

Vox makes a good point, BUT if ABC had kept Rosanne on, it may have lost lots in AD revenue as the show and station may have faced boycotts.

So, even though this was political, keep in mind politics does shape taboos that make something viable.

Negroes are Holy in the Narrative. Also, Jews want to maintain a symbolic alliance with blacks as fellow Victims of Whitey.

So, when Jewish Rosanne insulted a black person, Jews had to send a message to blacks that GOOD Jews will not tolerate that sort of thing. Jews need to send this message because Jews make so much money off black singers and athletes.

When Donald Sterling the billionaire Jew said something negative about blacks, the Jewish Establishment went into hysterics and denounced him.

It was partly commercial. Jews make money off black celebrities and talent. Also, Holocaust Jews want a symbolic alliance with Slavery blacks. So, Jews move quickly when a Jew goes off script and insults blacks.

@Andrea Daley

Who ended up owning the Clippers after they marketed the Sterling story for a while? Probably has something to do with it.

Wait, Jack didn't already have her shadowbanned? That's the big news.

She’s been on Twitter, talking about using ambien, doubling down on her apology saying what she did was unforgiving, and... get this, she’s defending ABC’s decision, telling her fans to keep watching ABC.

The funny thing is how Roseanne is always telling Darlene to clean her room.

Blogger Constantin May 30, 2018 5:54 AM

Aaaaaaaaaaannnnnnddd of course the most public Conservative figures are condemning Roseanne's joke to make sure they still score points with the Left. But in the same sentence, they have the gal to mention that what happened to her was "wrong".

Cuckservatives really are a blight.

"Cuckservatives really are a blight."

The so-called "Christian" version is even more pathetic.

"The SJWs now running Corporate America will throw away tens of millions of dollars in order to virtue-signal against a single tweet. That is the new reality. That is the corporate cancer."

On the other hand, ABC likely asked themselves if they want to be the company that promotes anti-black racism. They obviously didn't want to be that company. That's understandable.

Nobody, including you, thought that tweet was racist. Event the people denouncing it as racist knew it wasn't racist.

Stop lying.

"They did the same thing to Duck Dynasty. It was a flash in the pan and no remembers it now."

That is not true. The cast of Duck Dynasty refused to back down or apologize over Phil stating Biblical truths about the gays. It was A&E's highest-rated show, and they kept DD on for several more seasons. Reruns are still airing on the Outdoor Channel. This and GamerGate were the two pre-Trump examples of culture war waged properly from the right.

Blogger Tars Tarkusz May 30, 2018 11:38 AM

This was not virtue signalling. The executive who axed the show is black and thought it was "racist" even though it had nothing to do with race.

This is what happens when a diversity hire is running your company.

No, no one thought that. No one has any recollection of a history of slurring blacks by calling them monkeys and apes. In fact, I'm sure Barr was complimenting Jarrett because the apes in "planet of the apes" were the intelligent ones.

Stop lying. It's bad for you, bad for your brain, such as there is of it.

Snidely, you need to check the batteries in your sarcasm detector.

This isn't exactly like Zimbabwe where they drove white farmers off their land - or Venezuela where they got rid of actual farmers and engineers that kept the petroleum industry going, but close.

The Cronyism of corrupt regimes - even white European ones - changes things from the competent to the connected.

It is worse than "The Road to Serfdom" which is theoretical. The total collapse of things under Cronyism seems unexpected, and confusing since the deep juju witch doctor magic should work, but doesn't. Things decay and break.

It isn't merely that farms and farmers are burdened and production is weakened, it is first crippled by regulation, then ended by replacement. As if food, oil, and minerals magically appear on the ground, and that paper, tools, and such just magically appear at factories, if not distribution warehouses.

The same cargo cult causes hyperinflation. If everyone is so poor, why just not print more paper bills and make everyone a gazillionaire? Aren't the bills with a big enough number printed more valuable than gold? Instead of the difficult and messy process of mining gold, we can just print them, and everyone will be rich.

Welcome to Wakanda!

Welcome to Wakanda, indeed.  You have that mentality pegged.
