Show some respect

The NFL finally does what it should have done more than a year ago:
NFL owners agreed Wednesday to a new policy governing player’s behavior during the pre-game national anthem ceremony. Commissioner Roger Goodell announced that the owners voted to fine teams if their players are on the field or sideline during the national anthem but refuse to stand. Players will be allowed to remain in the locker room if they so choose. “This season, all league and team personnel shall stand and show respect for the flag and the anthem,” Goodell said in a statement. “Personnel who choose not to stand for the anthem may stay in the locker room until after the anthem has been performed.”
See, conservatives, that's what actually putting your money where your mouth is can accomplish! Now how about you stop handing over your money to Disney and other Hollywood Values companies?

O.T.: Twitter is now a public utility:
A federal judge ruled today that President Trump cannot block his critics on Twitter because his feed is a "public forum" protected by the First Amendment.

Last July, the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University filed a lawsuit in the Southern District of New York on behalf of seven individuals arguing that blocking users on the @realDonaldTrump account who disagreed with the president's policies violated freedom of speech.

The blocked plaintiffs are Maryland professor Philip Cohen, Tennessee Dr. Eugene Gu, Seattle songwriter Holly Figueroa, New York comedy writer Nicholas Pappas, Pittsburgh author Joseph Papp, D.C. legal analyst Rebecca Buckwalter-Poza, and Houston police officer Brandon Neely.

My comment on Instapundit:

Well, by logical extension, the president -- no, President trump, and only President Trump -- will violate the First Amendment if he refuses unwanted visitors to his personal quarters at the White House; if he screens visitors to the presidential office; and, if he refuses unwanted visitors to his quarters at Trump Towers. Of course, if Hillary had won, she could Arkancide unwanted visitors and the same judge would call it constitutional.

This ruling is so far out in left-wing field that the judge immediately should be suspended and placed in a rubber room until he is impeached, removed, and his law license revoked.

It fines the team for any player or employee who doesn't stand. Discipline of the individual is left to the team.

One problem is the punishments are still unspecified (I've been saying if they can fine players for wearing the wrong brand of headphones, they sure as hell can fine them for kneeling). One silly proposal I heard this morning would be a team with kneelers would be assessed a 15 yard penalty on the kickoff - which if both teams do that, how would the penalties work? Kick from the 20, then apply the 15 after the return? Ridiculous.

Blogger Stg58/Animal Mother May 23, 2018 3:26 PM

Ransom, I know you're trying to tell me something, but I can not understand the words coming out of your mouth.

Blogger DonReynolds May 23, 2018 3:28 PM

I had read in another story they were going to start penalizing the team 15 yards on the field. Of course, if both teams have protesters, the net effect would be zero.

The money fine they propose is not going to mean a thing, since it will be paid by the team and not the protester(s). After the money hit, these teams and the leagues took last season, clearly they are indifferent to money loses. Same with the offending players. Their politics and virtue signaling is more important than the game or their job.

My Rule might be more effective....
Once you decide to protest at a football game (where you work), you are no longer on the clock and will not play that game. Put it in the contracts, you remove yourself from supervision by the coaches, you do not play the game and you do not get paid. There is plenty of time before the next game for the offending players to wise up and play football. Protest all you like off the field but you have no right to steal the audience where you work. Play football or get off the field.

"Buuuuut Vox, I swear I'm not addicted to pedowood entertainment, I can quit any time I want!"

I think they are also addicted to not being humiliated by their liberal friends. For example, they know that if they actually said something like "I am not going to see Show Dogs because Hollywood, which hates people with my political views and hires pedophiles to work on kids movies, made a kids movie about going to your happy place during genital touching" they would be mocked. Same if they said "I will not see a remake of A Wrinkle in Time where they replaced God with Oprah."

So they go into cogdis until they find a rationalization to go see it, to make sure they don't even have to go through "Hey, they made a movie of a book you like! I loved it, it was sooo spiritual and inclusive! What did YOU think?" without something to say to take the pressure off.

This is a lot like hate crime laws. Beat a guy senseless - assault. Beat a guy senseless and mention his race - assault and hate crime.

So, doesn't the reason Trump blocks matter? And did anyone ask Trump?

Sorry, still not buying it. There are too many random things that can happen in a live football game that even if all the players are actors following a script things can happen to throw any plans into a cocked hat. Kayfabe works for pro wrestling because there are fewer variables to deal with, such as weather and no odd-shaped ball that can be tricky to hold onto or catch - under good conditions.

Another reason NFL games are ''fixed'' in the way some believe is gambling. As you may have heard, NFL betting has pretty much expanded nationwide. If a team(s) is discovered trying to effect the outcome of games, the crackdown will be rapid, intense, and outside of Baddell's control - much the same way pro sports were forced to crack down on drug use of all kinds. Everybody has their fingers in the gambling pie, from the major corporations that own and run the casinos, to the government that sees gambling as a tax cash cow, eager to be milked. The first clue will be Vegas listing more and more games as ''off line'' (no bets accepted) as they sometimes do late in the season when they fear teams that have locked up the playoffs might rest players. Then Congress will get involved, you know they will, remember all the drug scandals?

We need another term for those cucks we call the civic nationalists, because they are anything but that. I just had a discussion with one of them and it was exasperating. He was going on and on tacking to the line about the sacredness of the First Amendment and the predictable “I may not agree with you but I will fight for your right to say it” kind of thinking.

No. How can anyone be so blind? Refusing to even ceremonially honor the flag and anthem is a declaration of separatism. It is to say, “I am checking out of and protesting the American project. I am of another tribe.”

The fabric of the American State is woven by the American Constitution. You join her armed forces? You become elected as a representative of her people? You get appointed as a judge? You have to swear fealty to the American Constitution.

That ought to be blatantly obvious to anybody who values civic nationalism proper. Supporting those who trash and hijack reverence for this, which is what the kneelers are doing, ought to be an obvious no-go.

I’ll be damned if it isn’t. These so-called civic nationalists are undermining their own case idiotically.

It is an inherently nutty opinion driven either by incompetent or political bias, and likely both. Freedom of speech does not include the freedom to make other people listen. Newspapers, magazines and the major networks are all public forums, and they are all make choices on political speech all the time.

Provided only that he is not using public funds the president does not lose the ordinary rights of citizenship and none of us are required to publish material we disagree with.

That is exactly what this ruling tells us.

Similar rulings by Judges Robart , Watson (and some others I have probably forgotten) have made clear that these judicial hacks (yeah, I'm talking to you, Jim) have abdicated their constitutional oaths for nakedly political ends.

"Good behavior" does not mean simply refraining from committing felonies. It means honoring one's oath, and failing to do so is just as much an impeachable offense as failing, say, to provide appropriate deference to the distaff members of your staff.

While it is no-doubt wishful thinking, seeing some of these clowns impeached for judicial incompetence at best (or simple dishonesty at worst) would be refreshing. Not holding my breath, but we can dream a bit, can't we?

Interesting, but this doesn't solve the underlying problem - the NFL has a bunch of players who hate the nation that most of the fans belong to. Telling them to stand or hang out in the locker room will trigger the NFLPA and several outspoken negrotarians to double down on telling Whitey how bad we are and how much they don't want to share any heritage with us.

But that was baked into the cake as soon as anyone - NFL or another player or player's agents - took the original forty-kneeler Kaepernick seriously and didn't stuff him in a locker and tell him to shut up, he's ruining a good thing.

Blogger Jack Amok May 23, 2018 11:34 PM

Oh, by comparison... I went to a Seattle Seawolves game a couple weeks ago (new US professional Rugby league). The PA system cut out just as the singer was about to sign the national anthem. After a minute or so, when it was clear it wasn't going to get fixed, the crowd just started signing it. The fireworks guy shot off the rockets and bombs on queue with the crowd's rendition. It was awesome.

Felt bad for the signer, missing her chance to perform, but she handled it with grace.

Blogger Jack Amok May 23, 2018 11:37 PM

Worth pointing out, the crowd - it being a rugby game in Seattle - was probably a quarter foreign - Kiwis, Aussies, Tongans, Brits, Micks, Fijians...

and argh - sing not sign (though it would be awesome if we got that South African guy to sign the anthem, especially the bombs bursting in air part). And of course the cue was for the fireworks and the queue was for the beers.

Has anyone watched the Munk debate with Peterson and Fry vs Michael Dyson and Michelle Goldberg?

It was about 'political correctness'.

Not once, did any of the individuals refer for example to Rotherham, or the arrests of 5000 British for speech, or the destruction of freedom of assembly in England, or the repression of the Brexit vote, or de-platforming.

It's actually disgusting. You have ((Fry)), ((Goldberg)) the Heeb Dyson, and ((Peterstein)) all purporting to be discussing the West with no reference at any stage to any of the singular issues of the West.

Fry has such a long experience in the public eye and was very assured and also was very funny in dismissing Dyson as 'huckstering, snake-oil, pulpit talk'. But Fry is a Bloomberg aristocrat in the old style. The fact as an Englishman who attended Oxford who purports to worship Bertrand Russell he never mentioned Rotherham or immigration is astounding.

The entire conversation never once referred to immigration.

It's really sickening. These four Jews or proto-Jews purporting to represent western society, They are utterly divorced from the social realities that exist in the real world.

In any case, it's worth watching if you want to see the 'cutting edge' thought of the left and it's controlled left opposition.

I always think that the argument about the American flag is 'we salute the rank, not the man' - as stated by Captain Winters in band of brothers.

Americans still saluted the flag, even when it was held by Obama, because of it's status separate from the muslim holding it. They weren't saluting Obama. They were saluting America.

Trump's criticism of the NFL was the first SERIOUS attempt from a high level to get non-whites to go along with civic nationalism. Whites were starting to notice that they were being constantly browbeat to forget their racial interests and go along with the "we all bleed red" program, but non-whites never were. A lot of whites were starting to see that as unfair, and the last thing you want to do is make whites think something is unfair because whites are all about fairness. To keep whites from abandoning civic nationalism and going full pro-white, Trump engaged in this meaningless symbolic campaign and now the NFL has gone along with it.

It was about 'political correctness'.

That’s why I recommend everyone watch the Munk debate with Mark Steyn and Nigel Farage versus Simon Schama and Louise Arbour.

It’s ALL about immigration, and Steyn is particularly fabulous skewering as he does both Schama and Arbour for their astonishingly naïve political correctness on the subject.

Disney? Aw HELL No. They shan’t receive a cent from me after ruining my beloved Star Wars. No one can steal what some of we older ppl have(a lifelong love of Star Wars since ‘77 when our aunt snuck me and the cousins into the trunk of the car and took us to the drive-in theatre to see it), but going forward Disney will need a miracle turnaround after dropping this Star Wars: The Last SJW abomination on us.
