The Winestream
First, I would like to point out that some of you are unmitigated freaks. Second, I'm not eating anything after midnight; I have worked hard to get down to my post-college fighting weight and I'm not about to blow that. Third, I gave the matter some thought, and I realized that when one is in the YouTube arena, one must do as the YouTubers do. I therefore concluded that there is one area of personal interest that coincided with what people apparently enjoy watching, and it's something that I am entirely willing to do, nay, I regularly do anyhow, after midnight.
Scott Adams drinks coffee in the morning, I drink wine at night.
So, if you all come up with $500 in Voxiversity or StreamLabs donations in the next week, I will institute a weekly Winestream, which will consist of me reviewing a wine live for the viewership, complete with the bottle. A contribution of $50/the cost of the bottle (whatever is more) will allow a viewer to suggest a specific wine for me to review, with the caveat that I am based in Europe and cheap American wines like Night Train and Ernst & Julio Gallo are not available here.
Since I have no idea how anyone would talk more than five minutes about a wine, this will merely be an intro to the rest of the Darkstream, which I will cleverly attempt to tie to something to do with the place where the grapes involved came from. Or perhaps I'll just talk about current events. Regardless, the initial Winestream will be tonight.

Ours not to reason, fine.
Ours but to drink red wine.

I look forward to wine streams. I found a winery this weekend with a Petiti Verdot that’s 90 points for $20 a bottle. A steal as that’s about the hardest grape to grow
Good thing I finished my Coke already. I would have sprayed it all over the screen and keyboard.
You should consider beer. Yeah, its got carbs, but they are the GOOD carbs.
Wine? No wine and dine? Nothing to eat after midnight. Hear you there. For one thing, eating anything after about 2100 will keep me awake a good part of the night. Your digestion does not stop after midnight. I will agree that it can slow down. The mechanics of digestion at night is what keeps some people awake. The nocturnal wine will definitely help sleep. Keep in mind that wine is a carbo and will put some weight on you, imbibed in something more than moderation.
This sounds like something Mark Steyn would do, except he would talk about a singer or song tying in to the wine before segueing back to sinking the boats.
The man has rules. Avoid bright light, don't get him wet and don't feed him after midnight.
Oh sweet reason! Really?
Bravissimo cumpari! One taste of those grapes had Vox Day claiming the soil in Italy is indeed magic.
Na na na naaa, na na.
So no Mad Dog 20/20 chat. dang.
Damn I really wanted to get Vox to comment on Thunderbird. I've been eyeing the gallon size bottle for 4.99 at the liquor store and I didn't know if I should buy it or not.
I would really like to see Vox in stilleto heels stomping on various fruits lile grapes and tomatoes. Can we work something out on that too? Maybe with the tutu?
hahah
I was not around for Sad Puppies. Rabid Puppies was ending as I arrived. Here I am for the start of Sick Puppies, and I couldn't be more proud.
Thunderbird. I've been eyeing the gallon size bottle for 4.99 at the liquor store and I didn't know
Yes, do it! and grab Wild Irish Rose from the JR to chase it.
* Ilk can tell, this is gonna be one of those fun threads that will never end.
I didn't know you were a Wild Irish Rose man. You're alright in my book.
in stilleto heels stomping on various fruits lile grapes and tomatoes
+1
"I'm not eating anything after midnight"
Why, might turn into a gremlin?
"Some of you are unmitigated freaks (and I've decided to enable you)."
Will you sniff the cork on stream?
You also need to slosh if aroubd your mouth & promptly spit it back out.
Crank up G&Rs Night Train as background music
Well, this 100% made my Sunday morning. It's good to start the day with a [deep belly laugh]; sets the tone.
We had some winos break into the liquor store when I was a kid. Did they take the expensive stuff? No! MD 20/20 for them. The cops found them by the pile of empties in the yard. Might as well drink Listerine.
I am both sick and twisted, but I just shake my head at the food thing...
Hi Vox, I would like to hear about wine history as well. What is the earliest knowledge of wine? Did it start with the Anatolian farmers and travel throughout Europe?
bw, I find the imagery disturbing, but still +1 for the fruit part.

We are truly not worthy...
It's like Orson Welles, but without the girth, the cheap vino, or being past your prime (one hopes).
Now you just need a catchy slogan.
I did my part. $5 for the Winestream.
Shimshon wrote:I did my part. $5 for the Winestream.
Sorry Shimshon, Vox is not going to review Mogen David.
@30 If I donate enough, can I have it renamed Weinstream? Maybe even the Harvey Weinstream? Oh man...
Riunite should be available though. Salute!
We have some wineries here in Texas that are worthy of great snark. As for me and my house, we will toast your review of uppity fine red wine with those, knowing we are fully in the spirit of the event.

$4.99 gets me Le Grotte Reggiano Lambrusco Rosso Dolce, an Italian red Lambrusco D'Asti at Trader Joes. I really enjoy it, even though it's rather dry when it's flat. Very odd.
Harvey Weinstream?
Ben there done that..
wait..
In fact... I'm going to go buy two bottles to celebrate Vox' Winoism and drink along!
Heh, heh.
Ya know that we can have a gallon jug of E&J shipped to Italy, right?
Remember the tutu.
We will go there.

just because i mentioned Crush Fetish doesn't mean you're supposed to do a Rule 34 search on the internet for it.
you freaks.
"stomping on various fruits like Milo and Andrew Sullivan."
"...when one is in the YouTube arena, one must do as the YouTubers do."
I am interested to see how it turns out. The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, Tide Pod Challenge, Cactus Eating Challenge, Red-Hot Stove Coil Challenge, and the Simultaneous Sip have all been ultra cringe inducing. Wine tasting by Vox Day is bound to be a massive improvement.
Ya gotta do this right, gotta follow the the 5S approach.
1. See
2. Swirl
3. Sniff
4. Sip
5. Spit
And to top it all off, get a spit bucket with a picture of someone your despise at the bottom -- say, John Scalzi.
@38 if it makes you feel better i actually didnt have to look it up.
haus frau wrote:@38 if it makes you feel better i actually didnt have to look it up.
So this *already* is a part of your lifestyle?
well, you know, a haus frau has to get sammich fixins money SOMEHOW.
I used to pick up a few bottles of Ferarri whenever I passed through Milan. I love that stuff- but it's too expensive here, and I don't drink wine often. I also found Rioja to be very nice while I was visiting Basque country.
@42 what can i say dude? We eat a lot of jam.
I think perhaps you preliminarily had begun a Winestream before you did the Killstream with The Ralph Retort the other night. That one should merit the full Winestream treatment in the future.
A good Merlot, Cab Sav or Pinotage from South Africa for you to try?
Hey, so long as you guys are taking requests.
I want to watch Nate smoke a cigar.
I'd watch the fuck out of that.
I have to put out for my drinks too, but it's not chit-chat they're after. We're all whores in the end.
You want to watch Nate put things in his mouth?
Ours not to reason, fine.
Ours but to drink red wine.
Since there are many not formed in our history...
Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon in front of them
Volleyed and thundered;
Stormed at with shot and shell,
Boldly they rode and well,
Into the jaws of Death,
Into the mouth of hell
Rode the six hundred.

I think I'll be forever in love with the sheer absurdity of how this came to be. What started as a potentially genuine desire by a Youtube commentator to find relatability to Vox because he can't "imagine him eating," has morphed into Vox Day, the Supreme Dark Lord, sharing wine reviews.
In all seriousness, I really hope this turns out well. I think Vox and wine pair well due to the intellectual branding of it. We'll have to see how the viewers handle it but it actually has real potential. At the very least, some viewers will find it relatable. I'd like to believe that people that don't watch the darkstreams or voxiversity but only see this will be drawn to them.
Who doesn't know charge ofthe light brigade?
My dad used to (mis)quote the most famous part when I was supposed to take the lawn
You brought this on yourself vox. Ya coulda just left that weird youtube comment alone, but no, you publicized it. Oh boy this shit is gonna be golden XD.
@20
"Will you sniff the cork... ?"
It's not smelling the cork -- it's visually inspecting it for signs of mold.
If I knew where to send it I could let you sample some of our latest from our vineyard on the South downs. Don't laugh, but the Romans grew grapes here.
Could be considered too controversial... some kid got censored on YouTube for his review of Popeye’s Rippin’ Chicken...
I'll pay $50 to see Vox smoke a cigar and drink jack on the rocks. Vox you taking that?
Sour Grapes?
My favorites are from Peterson and Sons halfway between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo, MI, but I don't know if they are still in business. I still treasure their cranberry (hard to ferment, and there is a backstory) and Chancellor Noir. No added sulfites, they wash the grapes and have a proprietary process. My second favorite is from Frey, a Cabernet Sauvingnon. I don't use waterford crystal, just partially fill my beer mug.

Not here. Maybe when I do the outside Darkstreams.
I love everything about this post.
there's a Peterson & Sons Winery in K-zoo, but it's on the SE side of town.
the owner sounds like he'd fit right in here.

Maybe Portugese wines along the Ricardian free trade example.

I second this. I would love to hear about the history and also the treatment of the grapes, etc. I lived in Parma for many years and there was a beautiful enoteca that specialized in stereos and small champagne producers - it was such a cool store. They also had some unfiltered organic whites that were very interesting and good.
I think this was one of them - I always remember the taste but the label not so much.

I really miss the deep knowledge and passion of the Italians.

You're welcome.
If nothing else it improves the taste of ice, bw.
I would say this is EPIC, but it doesn't quite do it justice
I'm in the "Remains to be Proven" camp. I won't be an initial supporter on this one. But hey, surprise me. If it's fun I'll jump on board.

Re: Agency Plan To Disrupt Vox Day Winestream
Livestream inject alley images of Amy Winehouse OD'd in her puke. Establish viewer equivalence Winestream == Winehouse OD. Wait. Certify conclusion of Winestream. Continue efforts to disrupt Vox Day. /cackle>

Hilarious and yet amazingly effective (using the winestream to tie into other things). Certainly beats watching someone eat a cheeseburger.
And to top it all off, get a spit bucket with a picture of someone your despise at the bottom -- say, John Scalzi."
That's such a gamma move. No way Vox does that.
Drunken Puppies.
in vino veritas
How much to get both you and Scott Adams having wine or coffee in the same stream?
A friend is asking.
Oh BTW you might see if Davis Aurini has any tips on drinking alcoholic beverages on the tube. :-D
This is how it starts:
1. Start doing wine reviews
2. Start earlier streams to justify eating pasta.
3. Turn the blog into nothing but recipes.
4. Become the first Alt-Right food blogger/vlogger.
5. Profit!
That's such a gamma move. No way Vox does that.
Why would you ever spit out good wine?
Could you integrate this idea with having a bookstream, where you tell us books that we might benefit from reading? I just finished reading a book so that would be cool.

Suprise:
Marx was a free trader who also notes the problem with labor being subject to mobility.
which is something Marx stated explicitly in The Communist Manifesto. although it is amusing to note that he is sourcing his comments from Marx from an address to the "the Democratic Association of Brussels" ... which points up the fact that 'Democracy' is a Communist ideal.
Marx also stated his desire to eradicate the Bourgeoisie. ie - Genocide the Bourgeoisie.
that these Marxist ideas are not widely known is an indictment of our educational establishments.
@14 I was not around for Sad Puppies. Rabid Puppies was ending as I arrived. Here I am for the start of Sick Puppies, and I couldn't be more proud.
Thread winner by my lights! Yeah, some really sick puppies! (Maybe too much wine?)
Winestream. I never thought I'd see that! I'm not a drinker, but I'll watch the first one when time permits. I like Nate's Bookstream idea as well.
Watership Down - The chicken edition. Loved it.

At $5 a gallon, you don't really have much to lose.
And if it turns out to be undrinkable, you can always marinate a beef roast in it!
I enjoyed your chicken story.
All I can afford is cheap Napa Valley wine. But I'm a volume drinker. I will consider a more expensive European wine for special occasions. Look forward to your reviews. Cheers.
Well THAT was a strangely-abrupt ending...
Come for the wine critique, stay for the Passion of the Chickens™.
10/10 Would recommend for any would be chicken farmer.
A guide to civilised imbibing:
3pm - DaBeerHour - “Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy” - Ben Franklin
4pm - Happy Hour - Cocktail with strong drink - as per Deuteronomy 14 etc.
Dinner - red wine as per Paul's advice to Timothy for DaStomache's sake;
That about covers it!
Enjoy!
Consider what a Vox self induced food eating hamburger selfie video lacked all along? A brave soul to bare that tribal angst that held him back in the pack.
"when one is in the YouTube arena, one must do as the YouTubers do"
But the Roman empire is dead. Then again it was the longest lasting. Do you want YouTube to die, or to live a long time? I may be overthinking this. So conflicted.
"not formed in our history..."
Theirs not to reason why,
theirs but to do and die:
"We're all whores in the end."
Only if you assume remuneration for service is what makes one a whore.
A better divisor is that whores take remuneration under the table of righteousness and everyone else takes it on top.
"You brought this on yourself vox. Ya coulda just left that weird youtube comment alone, but no, you publicized it."
Exactly. You don't avoid something (either internally or externally) by focusing on it or calling attention to it. You do it by focusing on or calling attention to something else. #askingforit
"Why would you ever spit out good wine?"
Gay. Exactly like how women who look like teenage boys win beauty contests in some places...
"and everyone else takes it on top." Snicker.
So anyway, Vox is doing reviews of his evening tipple, if we pony up? Most crass, Dark Lord, and I don't even know how much the blood of the innocent costs in Euros.
Although I would like a comparison between the arterial blood of a dying saint, and the mass, freshly crushed ichor of all the lesser devils who paid inadequate laudation in audience of late.
I've heard that while the former is acclaimed as the highest and most exquisite libation, that the Dark Lord of maturity appreciates the complexity and deep traditional importance of the more "folksy" blend.
Vox, gets's Spacebunny intel. "Do we really want (((them))) to vector down on us? Straight up real time

TBH, work this evening paid me to drink on the job. I had a food/bar tab and sure didn't waste much of it.

I have done some wonderful things with shallots, mushrooms, herbs de provence and cooking sherry. Venison into ambrosia is not particularly difficult if you have the right supplies ready to hand.
We address heady topics. It was pleasant to listen as Vox Day freely talked poultry antics and wine. May all your children eventually have regular country discourse and wine on the menu end of most days. Our effort can achieve this wonderful reward.
Dammit Vox, what happened to the chicken that collapsed? Was it ok? Suffering from shock? How did they all get out? Your stream was doing such a good job of humanizing you to my fiance (she loves chickens). I need answers! I assume pt 2 of the saga is coming soon
How many Ilk and Vile Faceless Minions are from Michigan?
269 here! Michigan's wine industry is tremendous. It's become tradition to do a weekend wine tour in the Traverse City area in the fall when the leaves are changing. God, this is a beautiful state.
(It was on this trip in 2016 when I saw miles and miles of Trump signs and knew he would win Michigan.)
Glad that Vox will show us the fruits of the Italian experience!
