Chuck Dixon's Avalon #2: Rulebreaker

The Gold Logo edition of Chuck Dixon's Avalon #2: Rulebreaker, is now available from Arkhaven Direct for $2.99.

In other Arkhaven news, we expect to have QM:AMD #3 and Right Ho, Jeeves #3 available in print soon.

We have also released the regular logo edition of Alt-Hero #3: Reprisal, in which we have modified Rebel's newly introduced outfit so that it cannot be interpreted as resembling a Confederate flag. Amazon policy forbids selling products featuring the Confederate flag and there is reason to suspect that some employees might attempt to apply the policy in the broadest possible sense to our comics, so we have elected to ensure that they are fully in compliance with Amazon's policies.

Any way to ask Amazon to clarify the Confederate Flag issue? Maybe have any issues with Rebel be pre-vetted to prevent malicious flags?

$4 shipping on a $3 comic seemed a bit much.... so of course I also got a physical copy of AWAKE IN THE NIGHT LAND.

The other night on YouTube, 2VS was almost begging Chuck and Sergio to put out a comic under the auspices of ComicsGate. 2VS was even pitching story ideas to Chuck, who pretended to be interested. Sergio was trying not to nod off as this was close to midnight EST.

After Chuck and Sergio left the chat, 2VS was lamenting that Chuck was 1990's busy and probably wouldn't have an opening for months.

It sucks, but right now Amazon is the only real option. If Walmart's deal with Kobo takes off, there may be some competition, but I'm not holding my breath.

That book. It haunts. I hope one day JCW will take us back there.

Speaking of, look what a search on Walmart turns up: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Alt-9733-hero-Alt-Hero-3-Reprisal-Paperback/917276208 and https://www.walmart.com/ip/Quantum-Mortis-a-Man-Disrupted-1-By-the-Book/739940658

No. That's not possible and I very much doubt Amazon would be inclined to help us in that particular regard.

"in which we have modified Rebel's newly introduced outfit"

(1) Is that just on the cover?
(2) Is that for all versions or just the ones sold on Amazon?

SJW's are hypocrites. Amazon.com still has a boatload of Dukes of Hazzard product listed. Didn't have to scroll down far to find the Confederate flag. Seriously Amazon, WTF. Banning the Dukes of Hazzard? These people really hate America.

Wait - so how do we get the proper cover for Issue #3?

I have removed more tiny swastikas from the covers of war comics (where they are clearly depicted as the enemy of America) over the years than I can remember.

I think this stuff is galling to artists & publishers across the political spectrum, honestly. It's a thing apart from the statue issue.

Art can provoke, offend, anger. That is part of the role of art.

Amazon, Diamond, whoever else has the right to restrict such things, but they should chose not to.

The cover is unchanged except for the Arkhaven logo which is no longer gold. The cover never did show Rebel wearing her 'disguise' or suit.

Cover art hasn't changed. No need.

Amazon.com still has a boatload of Dukes of Hazzard product listed.

Oh, they haven't been thorough with their purge. But a high-profile comic that the SJWs hate is hardly going to escape notice, not when NPR is already lobbying them about how "offensive" it is.

I am aware that some purists and morons will want us to launch suicidal WWI-style charges at everyone every time, but we are students of Messrs. Lind and van Creveld. There are times to fight a battle one cannot win, but this is absolutely not one of them.

Seriously, Dirk? Learn some self-control. Even Snidely has learned to do so.

Blogger Dave October 03, 2018 6:26 PM

Yes, no reason to awaken the sleeping Amazon, as long as the backers can expect the proper Confederate Flag 'disguise' for Rebel in their campaign versions.

When do you anticipate the Rebel figurines to come out?

Probably Q2 next year.

If you browse the Direct store, sometimes there are CH print books on sale for 25% off.

You end up paying less than the same book on Amazon, and then you throw in all the comics onto the order for practically free shipping.

This doesn't help your wallet, but it does improve your shipping fee value!

Got it! The Avalon comic series is off the meter! I only read Avalon #1 but THAT was a GREAT story. Chuck's story was KRAZY grimey, like "King of New York" or "Menace To Society". I cannot wait for it to come in the mail.

Too bad, I liked the old design better. At least I got the hard copy where it appeared, for 4 glorious panels.

But I appreciate the pragmatism. Too many good efforts are sunk by dumb strategic decisions made for fundamentally emotional reasons - usually envy or pride - disguised as principled stands.

Regarding the recoloured Rebel, you mentioned that you are currently unable to offer an alternate version for those that buy print versions from elsewhere. Can you go into more detail on that? (You said "yet". In the past you've also mentioned the pagan comic that'd be print only because Amazon wouldn't tolerate it.)

The Kindle Unlimited Paradox:

Kindle Unlimited isn't going to make you money.

Your venture into comics has done a lot to help Amazon's Kindle Unlimited sales.

You could technically make your own Kindle Unlimited service, but it wouldn't be profitable for you.

I have to hand it to Amazon, they've effectively brought back libraries and the model only works if the library has a large number of books in it from many different publishers.

Amazon missed their window to achieve lock-in in comics, which you can tell by the number of publishers that didn't agree to exclusives after their first Comixology contract expired.

Remember when everybody wanted to have an app built on top of the Comixology platform? Distant memory now. Remember when the Comixology guided view patent and the Marvel Digital patent were going to be barriers to entry? Yeah... no one does, because they weren't. Too many ways to skin this cat.

Marvel has Unlimited, DC is getting something similar started, lots of publishers just do digital direct.

Just ordered a copy. Is Frank Fosco doing the art on this issue too?

He's a solid cartoonist.
