Everyone in England was Black

Here we go again. This time, it's Black Javert. It's gotten completely obnoxious. Why not throw in an Eskimo, a Pygmy, and an Aztec Flower Warrior while you're at it?
Following several months of anticipation, the BBC has unveiled official stills from its blockbuster six-part TV adaptation of Les Misérables.

A star-studded line-up, including Lily Collins, Ellie Bamber, Olivia Colman and Dominic West are seen in period costume for the upcoming drama — which, it has been revealed, will not be a musical.

And the network has broken new ground by casting a black actor, Selma star David Oyelowo, as Javert – a part played by Russell Crowe and Geoffrey Rush in recent film versions of the tale, set in 19th century France.
We were watching The Frankenstein Chronicles on the recommendation of one of our authors. It's set in 1827, so when the second African character was introduced, it was openly distracting enough to make everyone laugh. It's just ridiculous.

As a bonus, Thenardier is apparently an Arab.

If some future civilization dug up a cache of DVDs from our era, it would conclude that blacks held most leadership positions and whites were a lower caste that committed most of the crimes; that single-race marriages were rare; that 40% of the population was homosexual and/or transsexual; and that women were stronger, smarter, and faster than men. And they would wonder at the purpose of these odd "church" structures that occasionally appeared in the background without explanation.

Let's just put it on the table. Every form of communication and art is necessarily propaganda.

This is not to say that propaganda is necessarily evil, but there is always, always, always at least one message hidden under the message, between the lines of the story, or in the colors of the painting.

The main difference in modern times is only one of increased coordination between seemingly different entities in presenting similar propaganda. There always have been and always will be tide-bearers and story-tellers who want to change the world to fit their idea of how it should be. I say this as a story teller myself. It's inextricably the blood and roots of the profession.

You need to know exactly, down deeper than the bone, who and what are bringing you news, telling you tales, and producing your works of art, and you need to know the same about the patrons who are necessarily funding their continued existence.

Honestly the one that threw me the hardest in the past year was Black Judy Robinson on Netflix's Lost in Space.

Now in truth I was expecting her to be a total Mary Sue and she wasn't. They actually created a decently developed character there.

But they really did need to explain why one of these Robinsons was not like the others and they didn't do that until (I think) the last episode.

When they finally did, it was like half a sentence of dialog. Clearly they felt deeply embarrassed about the fact that they had to provide any explanation at all.

Les Miserables is such a yuge novel that you really can't explore it with a musical or a 2-3 hour movie. You are forced to cut it up and leave so much of it on the floor. The serial format would seem an ideal vehicle for it, a great way to really get into the novel.

But it's only a six part series! And with casting decisions totally unrelated to the novel. So disappointing. Forget Victor Hugo, these ninnies are going to SJW it up no doubt.

The BBC has come a long way from I, Claudius, where they actually tried to remain faithful to the work. It's a shame, too. American network television would never commit to something such as serializing Les Miserables, that way too much of a commitment for such a long-haul serialization. It's really something that would be in the ballpark of the old BBC. But no more, alas.

Watch the first episode of The Sopranos from 1999. It may as well have been written yesterday. Every Leftist/SJW talking point in the book is crammed in there. Every popular and or award winning show made back long before we were born is stuffed full of Leftist Propaganda. All Europeans are 1/1024 black according to the BBC unless they're actually black in which case they're presumably 1/64 white. This is fortunate for them as the current trend is actors shouldn't play roles of different genders, sexual orientations, etc.

-----

@1: A wonderful story in which we learned to give in to serial killers. The slightly weirder part of that show was that John Watson the former soldier is outclassed by his wife (complete with maternal bodyguard instincts), whilst both Holmes get similarly upstaged by their sister.

The reason I found it weird was because they record shows slowly. So the start was normal, as time went on they dialed the insanity up.

By contrast, America's offering was insane from episode 1. Elementary has female John Watson and female Moriarty.

-----------

TV and movies are being abandoned by the right (incidentally, no flag for the moon landing seems to have been a bad artistic choice). Even Netflix and other places the right migrated to are being abandoned. If it wasn't for Castalia House I'd give up recently written books too.

I suspect we're going to see a trend of right wingers reading and left wingers watching stuff. Obviously Youtube exists, so right wingers do have things to watch and sometimes they pick vapid stuff like other normies. Video games are converged, so if someone doesn't want something leftists are messing with, it'll likely be old books.

UKIP have a policy of getting rid of the licence fee and replacing it with a subscription service. This is very popular amongst its confirmed supporters. It will be interesting to see how its self professed objectivity persists under election conditions faced with that. I dont pay it anymore and haven't done for about five years having given my TV away. I have listened to BBC radio twice in that time, to listen to their seething rage at Brexit then Trump prevailing. They are propped up in modern times by two things - EastEnders and Strictly Come Dancing. They do have the excellent wildlife shows, but those have such broad worldwide appeal, they would easily be financed by global sales without taking $200 from each household each year. This story is merely more straws being loaded upon the camel, I would be very suprised if they can last in their present form for more than a decade, because young people especially just dgaf.

Reminds me: I was watching the new Gareth Evans film on Netflix, 'Apostle'. Set on a remote island off of deepest darkest Wales at the turn of the 20th century.

I was a bit confused as to why there were a few black men milling about the place. The plot involved the island being a religious refuge for people who were rejected from regular life. A kind of Little Australia. So it kind of made sense that they might wind up there.

Still, when you're telling me this is *Wales* which, even today, post 1950s/60s, has a black population of half a percent... it was pretty distracting.

Blogger artensoll October 16, 2018 4:56 AM

It comes down to the stories and the writing. There is no more Dr Who in my house after making him a woman but I had no problem whatsoever with the Master becoming Missy. Best. Master. Ever. Imvho. The writing for her character was superb as was the actress who played her. I didn't even mind the Queen of England (Liz Ten) being played by a black woman; she has one of my favourite lines of all of NuWho, "I'm the bloody Queen, mate. Basically, I rule". Well, *I* found it funny.

When the character has been shoe-horned into the story for the sake of it, it's jarring and distracting and then the story is lost.

In the UK one must have the licence even for streaming TV content. It's really bugging the people to have to pay so much when there are maybe 1 or 2 shows they watch on BBC all year. The only BBC show now shown in my home is MasterChef Professionals but I can't see it lasting much longer as it is usually won by a white male.

They are doing this in the Shakespeare Company, too, usually one or two black actors in every play, even if it is King Lear or Hamlet. I put my TV in storage a few years ago. When I'm at someone else's house and they have the TV on, I'm amazed by how much it's changed just in that time. I think the day I put it away was after I was watching a football game and a promo came on for a sitcom where two dudes kissed each other. That was surprising then.

People who still watch it can't seem to see how bad it is. They see the most blatant examples, but not the constant narrative underlying them. They cherry-pick conservative-leaning characters to show it's not all bad, even though those characters are usually foils who show the correctness of the narrative in some way. Everyone remembers loving Archie Bunker, but not how his character was used. A friend was telling me about a new show that's really family-focused and kind of traditional, then mentioned that the family has an adopted black son who is the smart scientist of the group. Of course he is.

There's actually a scientific movement that is more credible than Mary what's-her-face that suggests that the post Last Glacial Maximum inhabitants of Europe, including England (based on DNA analysis of the fossil of Cheddar Man), the so-called Western Hunter Gatherers (WHG) population was dark skinned and blue-eyed. Naturally, reconstructions and journalists have often said that they had "black" skin and paint them to look like Africans with a bit of white features here and there.

Of course, when the Neolithic Early European Farmers (EEF) came to Britain, they almost completely genetically replaced the WHG population. Wiped them out, or at least made the WHG's contribution to subsequent DNA about equivalent to that of the Neanderthal.

And then when the Early Bronze Age Beaker People came to England, they genetically replaced the original EEF inhabitants (90% of subsequent DNA was replaced), although of course the Beaker People were admixed a fair bit with Continental EEF populations themselves.

All of this is interesting for people of British descent, of course, but it's been spun by journalists and even many of the scientists themselves in such a way that it's deliberately meant to weaken the claim of the Britons to their own homeland.

Oh.
I was informed that you only paid a one time tax in the UK on your television purchase, and that funded the BBC.

If I understand your comment correctly, it's more like a yearly licence fee? Is that actually how it works?

If it's a yearly fee, what is the mechanism of enforcement? A decription code? A hardware key? Weekly in-home inspections?

Cable television enforcement would be easy; I can't imagine a non-intrusive way to enforce that with OTA broadcasts.

Thanks in advance if you choose to shed light on this for me.

I don't have to deal with this issue, although I have family that do. It actually got better a while ago, it used to be harder to avoid. The government has absolutely no idea if you "should" be paying the TV licence or not, so if you don't pay it, they send you letters anyway, even if you have no TV. I guess their excuse is someone could be streaming from the BBC/ITV/C4/C5 website.

"The current fee is £150.50 for a colour licence and £50.50 for a black and white licence. The licence is free if you are 75 or over, and half-price if you are registered blind."

They are considering making 75+ people pay for a licence, but they're generously allowing the blind to keep their 50% discount.

"An online TV service is any streaming or smart TV service, website or app that lets you watch live TV over the internet. This includes services like All 4, Sky Go, Virgin Media, Now TV, BT TV, Apple TV, YouTube, Amazon Instant Video and ITV Hub."

If you have a computer, phone or whatever, you can't watch TV through any of those. "TV" meaning things that were shown on TV live (a repeat is still shown live).

My sister pays it despite technically not having to and she's a right wing Brexit voter. She's not the only person I know that would rather pay for the licence than have to deal with legally not paying it.

"Licence fee prosecutions make up one in 10 criminal cases in England and Wales."

"Failure to pay can lead to a £1,000 penalty and a criminal conviction and last year [2016] 38 people - mainly women - were jailed for not paying the fine"

"Out of 256 TV licensing court hearings in the country this summer [2017] a total of 85 - 33 per cent - were dismissed by judges or dropped by the BBC at the last minute, found an investigation by the Daily Mail."

The UK police solve about 5% of thefts. The media keep telling us that UK police aren't going to bother even trying to do anything about low level crimes. There was even that suggestion regarding non English speakers "Non-English speaking victims of crime to be given priority, police chief suggests." ( https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/08/25/non-english-speaking-victims-crime-given-priority-police-chief/ )

The UK is the country of twitter police, licences for everything and Swedenesque suicidal tendencies.

Also, when you BUY a TV, the retailer informs the licensing people.
