POP KULT WARLORD by Nick Cole

Castalia House is extremely proud to announce the publication of POP KULT WARLORD, the second book in the Soda Pop Soldier series, by one of the best-selling authors in science fiction, Nick Cole!

It’s way more than just a game!

PerfectQuestion is back! Running and gunning his way across an incredible civilization-building game set on Mars. But this time he’s working as a hired online ringer for a corrupt dictatorship and trying to keep from getting “disappeared” in a reckless world of intrigue, epic parties, luxurious meals, fast sports cars, and women who are as dangerous as they are beautiful.

Five million in gold says he can do it and put the next Sultan on the throne by leading a rag-tag clan of gaming jihadis to victory, but revolution and revolt are afoot. The long knives are out in Calistan for the hero of Soda Pop Soldier and anyone else who gets in a murderous prince’s way.

From the reviews of SODA POP SOLDIER, available in Kindle, KU, and paperback editions from Castalia House:
  • Great literature for gamers. Didn't ever want to put this down. Absolutely riveting storyline, with a very interesting perspective on the possible interaction between marketing and gaming in the future. Action is fantastic as always.
  • Amazing ride! Completely addictive. Definitely well worth the time to read if you are a gamer or like me, gave up the addiction. It's a reminder of how awesome games can be juxtaposed with the reality and how both influence the other. Also a reminder that how you play a game is an indicator of who you want to be or who you really are.
  • This is an excellent, though dark and depressing, sci-fi look at our future. Commercialism run rampant, the gap between haves and have-nots ever increasing (literally), and the common man left scrabbling for scraps. Too many are seeking escape through video games, but even the best professionals, such as our main character, are living month to month doing the bidding of their corporate masters.
  • Absolutely perfect sci-fi! It's a great book, a great story because each note is perfect. You listen to a piece of music and not a note is dropped beginning to end, that's this book. If you like the genre of litRPG, this book defines it. If you like mil-SF, this book has great action, and if you like a mystery or two to puzzle over while the coolest characters in the future battle it out in and out of the computer world, this is for you.
  • What Snow Crash should have been.
POP KULT WARLORD by Nick Cole is now available for Kindle and KU.

I ordered Soda Pop Soldier in the mail.

Opened the package, sat down, and didn't get back up until six hours later when I had finished the book, it was that riveting.

I'm already planning on ordering this one, going to do it right now actually.

I was introduced to his work by Ctrl+Alt+Revolt! and loved it. Soda Pop soldier was one of my favorite reads this year. Nick Cole's writing in Galaxy's Edge has also been quite enjoyable. All said and done, I haven't waited in anticipation of a new novel like this since Glen Cook's earlier works. He is just that good. This one may just have to be added to my physical book collection - which is saying something for someone that has downsized from 700+ to under 100. This will put him in with Pournelle, Tolkien, Howard, and early David Drake.

Oh, and among the less than 100 are non-fiction works also. The 700+ were fiction alone.

Nick Cole is a phenomenon, and his rate of output is staggering.

Ctrl-Alt-Revolt was amazing, and I tore through the four books he’s released so far in his Wyrd series (moar soon please!). Now that there are two books in the Soda Pop Soldier series I guess I’ve gotta move them to the front of my backlog.

As of this writing it's at 1219 in the Kindle Store.

Lets push a little harder guys.

Do my eyes deceive me, or did an Audible audiobook of Soda Pop Soldier also just get released today?!

Blogger S1AL November 06, 2018 2:24 PM

This had better be a trilogy. 'Cause I dunno if I can be left hanging like that without calling Nick Cole a lot of terrible names.

Just bought Soda Pop Soldier and Pop Kult Warlord on Kindle (even tho I'm also on KU, but knowing what I know now I'll only use that for non-CH authors.)

@CarpeOro

Don't teaze me, bro! Give us some David Drake titles.

Please.

Did an Audible audiobook of Soda Pop Soldier also just get released today?!

It did indeed.

This is the third book so technically.... Well no, it's not a trilogy. But if you don't read all three books you'll hate yourself forever and rightfully so.

I didn't realize Pop Soda Soldier was the second... Oops. Ah well, didn't seem to screw up anything with the story. CAD is the first?

Blogger S1AL November 06, 2018 3:34 PM

*CAR, that is... But to be entirely fair, Vox called this the second book. What am I missing here?

Blogger VD November 06, 2018 3:59 PM

Soda Pop Soldier is the first.

Blogger dtungsten November 06, 2018 6:06 PM

CTRL ALT Revolt was published after Soda Pop Soldier, but I don't think it's a direct sequel.

Blogger Were-Puppy November 06, 2018 8:27 PM

Picked up both.
