The real war in Paris

The Yellow Vest protests are increasingly disrupting France:
France may be forced to declare a state of emergency after a day of carnage in Paris, amid calls to send in the army to quell an outburst of civil unrest. Violent protesters occupied the centre of Paris yesterday and torched cars, smashed windows with clubs and axes and clashed with riot police firing tear gas and water cannon on the Champs-Elysees, in France's worst urban rioting in more than a decade.

The 'yellow vest' protests, which began as a rebellion against fuel prices but has expanded into weeks of civil unrest, spread across the country yesterday and ended with 133 people injured, including 23 police officers, and 412 arrested last night.

Today the French government said it would consider imposing a state of emergency to end the violence, as President Emmanuel Macron visited the Arc de Triomphe and vowed to bring the rioters to justice.
I can't help but observe that the protesters have clearly learned the lesson of GamerGate on the one hand and the Fake Right on the other. No leaders means no points of weakness the government can seek to buy off, assimilate, or destroy.
The French government has faced difficulties dealing with the protesters as the movement has no real leadership and has not aligned itself with any political organisation.... On Friday, the government tried - mostly in vain - to talk to representatives of the movement. Eight were invited to meet Prime Minister Edouard Philippe but only two turned up, and one walked out after being told he could not invite TV cameras in to broadcast the encounter live to the nation.
Notice that the French government's first response was to summon the leaders and attempt to communicate with them and coopt them. But there is no need for any communications, as all the protesters need to do is keep up the pressure for a few weeks and the Macron government will fall. And that, I would guess, is their primary objective, since no one in France, on the Left or the Right, actually supports the feckless globalist tool.

This may be a symptom of terminal dirty-mindedness: When I first heard the French (proper noun) Macron, I immediately thought the Spanish (common noun) cabron.

I do not look forward to Megan McArdle trying to square the circle with her heterodox instincts and orthodox upbringing. Since Trump's election, she has gone from frustrating with her broad yet static 40k' view that fails to mark the dynamics, to downright embarrassing with her regular lapses into establishment NPC programming.

Blogger SciVo December 02, 2018 6:39 AM

If that sounds like a non-sequitur, she was one of the few mainstream commentators with an international perspective that was not also knee-jerk socialist. So it has been very sad to watch her devolve into 0s and 1s.

The real questions here: will this be the beginning of a new French Revolution? Who will turn up as the new Napoleon? Will he be anything like Italy's Salvini or Brazil's Bolsonaro?

Are we going to see someone Make France Great Again?

Blogger Solon December 02, 2018 7:34 AM

Ya know, I've always thought it pretty narrow-minded and silly when people claim the French are a bunch of surrender-frogs. Napoleon set Europe on fire (yeah yeah, he was Corsican and not French, so what. Hitler was Austrian). The Hundred Year's war was brutal. England was conquered by Normans. The French resisted Nazi Germany right to the end of the war, much like the Polish.

When you push White people over the edge, entire continents burn. Turns out that white people don't like being slaves, French very much included.

Blogger Lazarus December 02, 2018 7:34 AM

The spokesman for the center-right party, The Republicans, Laurence Saillet, remarked, "The French say, 'Mr. President, we cannot make ends meet,' and the President replies, 'we shall create a High Council [for the climate]' Can you imagine the disconnect?".

Another "let them eat cake" moment

On social networks, people discussed organizing demonstrations throughout the country and suggested that the demonstrators wear the yellow safety jackets that drivers are obliged to store in their cars in case of roadside breakdowns.

No small amount of irony in the hive mind.

Blogger Mr.MantraMan December 02, 2018 7:40 AM

"A night of carnage??" I don't think these gilets jaunes know what carnage is. And it has nothing to do with burning cars. One night of real carnage would send these pseudos running to their government for protection.

Hate to take a li'l piddle on the hope of a nationalist revolution but...

Have any of the yellow jackets taken out a globalist/eurocrat/banker yet? Or are they sticking to burning their fellow citizens' cars? Because nothing says "down with tyranny" like wrecking your neighbour's life.

Flip side of not having a leader is that no one can call a productive pause. It might (already have) become a thugs paradise.

And who is to care if some random protestor gets killed - if there's no member-group to 'feel' for?

Just wait for a cop to get killed. Less water cannon. More shotgun. Things will settle down before there's any revolution (but maybe not until protestors start to miss not bleeding from the head).

The framing of this is fascinating. Imagine if they were right wing or protesting the mass invasion and occupation of Paris. A bunch of hooligans can go out and riot and destroy as long as it's at least vaguely left wing.
To what degree are these taxes made necessary by all the new "Frenchmen" who need to be supported? How many of the rioters are actually French?
The new "Frenchman" have a reputation for rioting and setting cars on fire, especially police cars. A couple of years ago, the new "Frenchman" set a cop car on fire with a cop in the car!
When are the old Frenchman going to aim their energies at the new and rid themselves of the vermin?

Cops violently arrest legitimate protesters but let feral vibrant mobs burn down everything they can, which makes good propaganda to show on TV.

@12 - consider a parallel if it happened here. If I were to go to Seattle or Portland - there are lots of cars with Hillary or Bernie stickers, so making them "feel the burn" wouldn't bother me because they hate me and want to destroy everything good.

This is Paris, and the "refugees" have burned cars and have no-go zones. The only thing is they haven't used water cannon there.

The police used to be peace-officer servants, now they are more like the tax-collecting red coats and don't keep the peace (but will take a report for your insurance company).

Macron has lost at the moral level and this is 4GW. 4GW doesn't have leaders as such. The French police and Justice system are visible and given their refusal to do things to handle violent crime, but enforce thought crime (and compare London).

It is also as post-Christian as the earlier storming of the Bastille (when IS Bastille day?). Macron might lose his head, though it won't be a big loss. His push on fuel is the same as "If they don't have bread, let them eat cake!".

As someone noted, those on the right have a switch, not a volume knob for violence. It is be nice with an adversion to violence to kill 'em all and let God sort them out.

They won't until they do, and then they will have.

When I read about the French Revolution, I was surprised at how quickly they got from the Estates General to storming the Bastille. About two months, I think. There were probably small outbreaks of violence in between that didn't make the history book.

Blogger seeingsights December 02, 2018 10:09 AM

A recent comment on a Countet-Jihad website made a point which I think is profound. I wish I would have first made it.

The point is that from now on whatever the EU and the globalists in Europe do will hasten their demise.

In this situation, Macron has two choices: keep the tax or reduce it. If he keeps the tax, then opposition from the public continues. If he reduces the tax, that means less revenue for globalist schemes.

Another example is the current conflict between the EU and Italy over Italy's budget. If the EU gives up, then other EU countries will try to assert sovereignty over their budgets, causing strain on the EU. If the EU does not give up on this, that will increase anti-EU sentiment in Italy which will contribute to an Italexit.

The EU is, and will continue to, unravel.

As someone noted, those on the right have a switch, not a volume knob for violence. It is be nice with an adversion to violence to kill 'em all and let God sort them out.

Larry Correia, in his latest gun blog posting, "THE 2ND AMENDMENT IS OBSOLETE, SAYS CONGRESSMAN WHO WANTS TO NUKE OMAHA" (although Omaha is actually a Blue island in otherwise fairly Red Nebraska, is very anti-gun, and has been a major factor in retarding the return of gun rights in the state, particularly the critical issue of state preemption, now only granted to holders of concealed carry permits).

A friend of mine who is a political activist said something interesting the other day, and that was for most people on the left political violence is a knob, and they can turn the heat up and down, with things like protests, and riots, all the way up to destruction of property, and sometimes murder… But for the vast majority of folks on the right, it’s an off and on switch. And the settings are Vote or Shoot Fucking Everybody.

When are the old Frenchman going to aim their energies at the new and rid themselves of the vermin?

The vermin (made "French" by stepping on France's magic dirt of course) cannot be dealt with until the old French remove lots of police, public officials, media-whores, bishops, cardinals and others who keep the evil structure running which elevates clown-farts like Macron to nominal rule. The old French still suffer from the unfortunate stupid delusion they can vote their way out of this. This recent uproar is a hopeful sign that some are at last starting to awaken to reality. They'll get even angrier as it dawns upon them how thoroughly evil those who run the racket really are.

... since no one in France, on the Left or the Right, actually supports the feckless globalist tool.

This is certainly true of the jacquerie (zeks), but the (((French Nobility))) and their loyal shabbos-toadies see Macron as the perfect teleprompter-reader for their ugly little okrug. His remark about "nationalism is treason" and establishing a EUSSR army to be staffed by all those new vibrant Frenchman, Germans, Spanish, etc. have the marchands joyeux rubbing their nasty little claws so much it sounds like a steamy summer night in the bayou. The yellow jackets will need to attack the weakest links in the thoroughly rotten structure to bring it crashing down. The pedobears who populate the Catholic hierarchy there would make fine torches - complete with luxury cars and palatial residences which will burn at least as well as a police car (which should be torched as well). Here's hoping the traffic-safety mob can really set the place ablaze.

The gun laws in the French okrug of the EUSSR are less odious than those of the UK okrug by a long shot, and France is one of those places where things can be acquired on the down-low as long as the correct folks get their cut of the transaction. There are probably more guns in private hands there than folks in the Banana Empire realize.

Hundred Years War: It took France with much bigger armies and population 100 years to eliminate the English.

Normans Conquered England: Norman is short for Norse Men as in Vikings who carved a dukedom out of northwestern France that they held independently for hundreds of years. French-speaking Vikings conquered England.

French Resisted Nazi Germany to the end of the war: It was 8 months of "Sitzkrieg" followed by 6 weeks of fighting. There were French units that fought well. A lot didn't.

Government's original purpose was to suppress all forms of piracy. Today's governments aren't good for much besides collecting taxes, which works great until the taxpayers decide they'd rather be pirates.

Incentives matter. French politicians have the utmost respect for third-world immigrants; now the native French have come to realize that the only way they'll get any respect is by behaving like the immigrants.

What's the government going to do now, order the police to shoot fair-skinned rioters while sparing the swarthy? Forcing rulers to explicate their ideology might be enough to defeat them.

You obviously have not studied ANY of the successful revolutionary movements of the 20th Century.

Nothing says, "The Tyrannical Government Cannot Protect You and It Must Be Overthrown" to a white person like having your car burned up to a crisp by your fellow civilized, law-abiding hard-working, tax-paying, FED UP, white citizens.

How much you want to bet that the upper-middle class took greater losses than working-poor whites? Your truly poor Parisians are on the subways and buses, not driving cars. That's a misleading translation. Slacks are ankle-length.

A better translation is Without-Breeches, which are tailored to terminate just-above-the-knee and show off one's stockings, with a snug lower hem, similar to the snug-fitting lower hem on the calf-length pants on baseball uniforms 30-50 years ago.)

The sans-culottes wore trousers.

Go look at a painting of a man wearing culottes, and tell us, with a straight face, that the attire doesn't look strange.

Culottes are strange lookg --- by design, because they are meant to be -- their literal purpose was to be ridiculous looking, to the effect of, "I'm so rich, NONE of you dirty peasants will even dare say how ridiculous I look in this get up."
