He shot the sheriff

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has suspended the man who may arguably be the worst law enforcement officer in the country, Scott Israel:
Effective immediately, I am officially suspending Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel for his repeated failures, incompetence and neglect of duty.

Reasons for the suspension span several pages but include this: “WHEREAS Sheriff Israel is responsible for inserting into the Broward County Sheriff’s Office Active Shooter Policy that a deputy ‘may’ enter the area or structure to engage an active shooter and preserve life.”
The reason he didn't actually fire Israel is because he can't. Only the State Senate can do that. No word on the fate of any deputies, though.

If Andrew Gillum had won the Governorship, Israel would have been promoted.

Elections have consequences

With the shutdown, RBG news, and all the background Q posts, this feels like the start of an exciting show.

Florida really pulled through this time by electing DeSantis and Rick Scott. Considering how awful both their campaigns were this was the highlight of the midterm elections.

Blogger Durandel January 11, 2019 9:07 PM

True, Ataraxia, but Floridians votes to add an Amendement to the state constitution to allow released felons to have voting rights again. The Left in that state just gained 1.5 million more votes.

Former governor Rick Scott, now senator Rick Scott is a Jeb-like triangulator who doesn't want to acknowledge reality and take appropriate action. He did nothing about Israel and he did nothing about Brenda Snipes. Mostly he did nothing.

a little late, but I still welcome this move

"Former governor Rick Scott, now senator Rick Scott is a Jeb-like triangulator who doesn't want to acknowledge reality and take appropriate action. He did nothing about Israel and he did nothing about Brenda Snipes. Mostly he did nothing."

When Rick Scott - who replaced swamp creature Bill Nelson - votes "yea" on Trump's SCOTUS replacement for Ruth Bader Ginsburg it will redeem whatever shortcomings he had as governor.

Possible silver lining: The White 38% of Florida’s prison population have learned about the diversity the hard way. And maybe they’ll be more likely to remember when Election Day is than the others.

Israel should be driven into the sea!

Easier to chase off our Israelis if they have some place to go, so no.

DeSantis was just sworn in 3 days ago. From the AP story, to really twist the knife:

The Republican governor flew to Fort Lauderdale three days after taking office to remove the Democratic sheriff, appointing a former police sergeant to serve as acting sheriff. Gregory Tony, 40, worked for Coral Springs police for 12 years before leaving in 2016 to start a company specializing in active-shooter training. He is the first African-American to serve as Broward’s sheriff.

I love the one guy on that boardbwho presumably works in the Broward Sherriff's Office, complaining that the interim acting sheriff is a seargant, from a different office as well. He makes the analogy "if this was Walmart, it's like they made a department head the new CEO."

Conveniently, he forgot to mention in his analogy that said hypothetical CEO was suspected of corruption and cronyism up to his ears, and literally everyone in the company from the C-suite down to district manager was now radioactive enough to glow in the dark.

If I we're going to put in a new interim sheriff, and I thought I could get away with it, I'd try to poach a sheriff from a completely different state, that's how disgusting this whole situation is for Florida. Good on Scott and DeSantis, well done lads.

He did push and sign a package of gun control laws after Israel and other Broward County authorities failed to do their jobs with the known wolf, and is now pushing them in the Senate. One is a Red Flag law, and as of the first accounting for its uses, half of the over 400 people reported to the gun Gestapo didn't even own guns. After the local authorities cleared George Zimmerman, he appointed an incompetent and disgraced former prosecutor to persecute Zimmerman and his family. The worst sort of Republican, or politician for that matter.

In favor of the new interim Sheriff, he's from the city police department closest to the high school, which was notable for its cops being the first to storm the school, at least one deciding he couldn't afford to take the time to don extra body armor. They also told us about Israel's deputies who were cowering behind cars instead of doing their job.

They came from too far away to arrive in time, but as far as I know from the initial reports they had the Right Stuff.

It has been said that Democrats rescue their wounded but if they do it here it will be on the quiet and not with a splash, because as I dare think that this DeSantis guy has actually contested the moral level instead of the usual cuckservative mealy mouth procedural keep the nice white ladies of the GOP being from called names by the jerks in the press manner.

It's completely fair to focus on the sheriff! At the same time attention ought be given to the types of public school disciplinary policies present not only in Florida but in other parts of the country. Not only should the sheriff should be removed, but the school disciplinary policies, which opened the pathway for the Parkland shootings, need to be thoroughly dismantled.

The "racism as cause" narrative, in my opinion, forms many of the policies by which some of our public schools function. It's an ongoing disaster that worsens the social and cultural foundations of American society.

Check out this article from Conservative Treehouse. Sundance has done meaningful research on the disciplinary policies that are part of a larger dynamic in which the public school system is a vehicle by which the Left is unknowingly destroying the social and cultural institutions of America. I use term "unknowing" because it is my belief that the Left, in their pursuit of "social justice", have no grasp of the consequences of what they are pursuing. I could be wrong but I don't think so.

OT, bu relates to Taleb and IQ... I have not been following the Taleb-IQ thing closely... but was reading this over at TakiMag:
https://www.takimag.com/article/the-fundamental-constant-of-sociology/

Taleb is scornful of the assumptions that IQ tests can be trustworthy at the right tails—is a person who scores 160 (99.99th percentile) more likely to succeed in a moneymaking career than a person who scores 145 (99.7th percentile)?

Has ANYone asked on what basis Taleb has decided that "moneymaking" is the point of IQ or IQ testing?

My barely interested impression is Taleb is discarding with vehemence the whole concept of IQ because is HIS little world of quants and stocks, IQ is not a good predictor of who gambles best in the stock market?! Would he apply that to Las Vegas equally?

@Avalanche-

You still read Takimag? Even after his daughter took over and basically ruined everything?

DeSantis is not the brightest bulb, but I think he's in earnest on the Trump front.

His campaign was a wreck and he didn't handle turnover well at all in advisors.

Israel's deputy - the one who ran away from the school just after the shooting began...

...shortly thereafter retired on an $80,000/year pension.

and the yellow POS continues to receive it.
