More restaurants to boycott

Unless, of course, they are owned by Israel. If the Republican Senate gets its way, that would be illegal. In any event, Tucker Carlson is now in the sights of the corporate speech police:
Red Lobster has joined a wave of advertisers that have cut ties with the conservative Fox News host Tucker Carlson's show.

The chain confirmed to Business Insider on Monday that it was no longer advertising during "Tucker Carlson Tonight." Critics had pointed out that the seafood chain was one of the few brands that continued to advertise on the prime-time opinion show after recent controversies.

At least 19 brands have stopped advertising on the show since December.
IHOP did the same thing recently. Unless and until conservatives stop supporting the corporate brands that use their brand power to try to silence conservative views, corporations are going to keep attempting to buy influence over the few pro-American voices in the media.

And this is why conservatives will keep losing.

I lived on the Gulf Coast too long to think that Red Lobster is quality seafood. But where I live now if I don't go to Red Lobster my only other seafood option is filet-o-fish at McD's.

Who wants to bet this guy didn't bother looking up any small businesses in his area?

Or he could learn to make his own. But then again, that'd be inconvenient.

Blogger Jo K January 08, 2019 3:47 PM

IHOP and Red Lobster and two places I'll definitely avoid.

That said, I wonder how much business they lose by cutting advertising. Theoretically, the advertisement they do actually brings them customers. If not, why else would they advertise, right?

Used to be, people would talk about how businesses only cared about the bottom line. That's clearly not the case. These people would rather cut their own noses off than smell a conservative in their establishment.

Blogger camcleat January 08, 2019 3:51 PM

That closing quote pisses me off on a lot of levels. I bet that same jagoff complains the loudest among "friends" about "the left."

I live in a region with a strong, historic fishing heritage and the commercial fishing industry is being murdered. I've tried to be part of the fight against that assault; it is exhausting. The enemy never rests and has deep pockets.

When we eat out - comparatively rare for "middle" class Americans - we eat locally owned restaurants and very strongly favor those that serve local catch seafood.

Screw the chains, screw the pseudo-food, screw the "I'm entitled" attitude.

As Mr. Ahlquist points out about Chesterton's distributism, sometimes the costs of NOT buying local far exceed what you think you are paying.

It is cute though how he thinks Red Lobster is seafood.

"Who wants to bet this guy didn't bother looking up any small businesses in his area?"

I'd bet if he did look up locals, he'd complain about how they charge more. Or something.

A couple of years ago, I knew a lady whose family owned one of the larger seafood businesses in this area. She told me a lot of the touristy restaurants would not buy local caught shrimp because they varied in size. These folks, supposedly "locally owned," would rather buy shrimp grown in a disease infested Indonesian ditch and shipped to the US to maintain some sense of "appearance" for their spoiled baby customers.

The world is truly insane.

"Or he could learn to make his own. But then again, that'd be inconvenient."

Ha! Heard a guy on the radio a couple of months ago selling his tiller. Said "it's just easier to go to the grocery store."

When Lenin famously noted that the capitalist would sell him the rope he'd use to hang the capitalist, this is to what he referred.

Unless and until there's a major fashion change in the Mass Mind, the shopper shaving a few cents will always come first, even if it means handing the means to exterminate the shopper to his moral enemies. This could be called "The Bezos/Buffett Effect."

Blogger dc.sunsets January 08, 2019 4:14 PM

If (big IF) the change in trend has begun, then in a few years people will be too scared, poor or enraged to patronize mass market restaurants. My bet is that a wave of food scares will utterly destroy them all, as stories (true or not, it won't matter) proliferate about illegal Aztec cooks spitting (or replace the p with an h) in the sauce (or simply that widespread food-borne illness will get the attention it probably deserves.)

If (IF) the trend is changing, the "Mass" in mass market is apt to evaporate for rationalizations too numerous to list.

Blogger Noah B The Savage Gardener January 08, 2019 4:16 PM

Also, Red Lobster is owned by Golden Gate Capital based in San Francisco, and the decision to stop advertising on Tucker Carlson's show probably came from Golden Gate. Golden Gate also controls Macaroni Grill and California Pizza Kitchen. And Golden Gate Capital was founded by former employees of Bain Capital, which is Mitt Romney's old investment firm.

Blogger Ariadne Umbrella January 08, 2019 4:21 PM

Is it possible for Tucker Carlson's ad staff to find pro- American based businesses? They might be local, but it seems like most local businesses have websites and could ship nationally.

Like, maybe discount prices at first, if needed, and then as they grow- they should grow with national exposure?

The local sports radio has improbable local advertisements- single barbershops, mattress firms, male wellness clinics, real estate agents, restaurants. They have all been vetted, I guess? When we've used the advertised service, the outcome has always been better than we expected: better bed, better haircut, better house selling and house buying experience.

There are enough small manufacturers in the Los Angeles Basin that Amazon has a dedicated plane service to pick up deliveries from there.

Reese Witherspoon has a jeans factory in the USA. The Kardashians source from Los Angeles. Heddel's website spotlights American manufacturers.

Agreed and will add:

Eat your own caught or hunted, raise your own, or at least buy from local non-industrial-ag farm.

Better $$/quality - though they'll say "it's too expensive, they are wrong - and also, MUCH better on the "healthy" scale.

For example, we have been getting pork for less than $2 per pound from friends that raise pigs non-commercially. The difference in color, texture and flavor is hard to describe.

We could try some 4GW against them.

1. Put together some money from several people and buy Red Lobster, Macaroni Grill or Calafornia Pizza Kitchen gift card. Say, 100 (yeah, I know, that's gonna cost around $2,000).

2. Give them to homeless people and tell them where the restaurant is and that the restaurant promised to donate $1 for $1.

I hear that Starbucks is having lots of fun with homeless people so we should share the fun around.

But, the absence of my money will hardly affect their already shrinking bottom line.

Damn Crackers wrote:Red Lobster is a fancy seafood restaurant for certain demographic groups.

Not to state an unfortunate and popular fact but there was a reason that Red Lobster was advertising on Tucker Carlson's show in the first place.

And that reason was, that people who are w-a-a-a-a-a-y smarter than the CEO of Red Lobster, crunched the numbers and saw that the same people who watch Tucker, seem to enjoy (for some ungodly reason) a seafood menu that hasn't significantly changed since 1980.

In case that commercial didn't make it clear, the people who STILL eat at Red Lobster were lured there by Casey Kasem's sonorous voice long before Ronald Reagan left office.

It's an old people restaurant.

Not quite Perkins yet but Groupon DOES now plays a significant part of it's income stream.

For I have watched four Red Lobsters commercials, each from one from a successive decade since the 1970s and they are all about deep fried shrimp. Every damn one of them.

Forget Red Lobster, after the Chapter 11 filing, the chain is going to be called Brown Shrimp!

My point is this; the people who watch Tucker Carlson were deciding on whether they were going to Red Lobster or maybe save a buck or two and go to Denny's instead.

Red Lobster just made their choice a whole lot easier.

Blogger camcleat January 08, 2019 5:53 PM

@34

"In the Midwest Red Lobster is often our only choice for seafood."

So, what are you willing to do to change that?

The big corporate chains buy their "seafood" from foreign aquafarms. "Buy American" is a good antidote to that.

Are you willing to pay a little more for REAL seafood, caught in US waters by US fishermen? There are many a NC, SC and Gulf Coast shrimper that would LOVE to sell to local eateries in the midwest, but they are competing against a bunch of political interests that make it hard to survive.

Tariffs against imported trash would help, perhaps.

But, in the meantime and in addition to, convince a local restaurant to buy US wild-caught seafood and then be willing to pay the price at the table it costs.

Invest in your own nation.

Red Lobster is part of the "Global Aquaculture Alliance."

https://www.redlobster.com/our-story/seafood-with-standards/our-beliefs

Too bad they are not also part of local groups such as NCFA. They sold out American suppliers long ago.

Yes, though Applebee's doesn't seem to have followed suit.

Vanguard signed on to Sleeping Giants and TD Ameritrade bought Scottrade. That was enough for me to look at the options and choose Schwab for consolidating our accounts. I doubt either of them noticed that much, but it was a fair amount between the two accounts. Schwab is as left wing as any of the others, but they seem to be the best option out there, and I don't expect any better of them. I really wish Scottrade hadn't sold out though.

Hannity will not "bring himself down" to boycott his corporate enemies, but the left will continue to try to deplatform him.

Consider after Parkland, many places ended the relationship with the NRA, but they advertise on Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Glenn Beck among others. Sometimes with the host doing the ad.

I give them no quarter, much less my dollars. They've said they hate you and want you enslaved or destroyed, and want me to buy something to speed the process.

These are bottom dwelling creatures that literally filter the water. They eat anything, usually the worst things. I stopped eating that crap when I realized how bad they were for you. Boycott is the first baby step. We must build our own systems and buy on principle only from those of like-mind. We stopped shopping at Wal-Mart over a decade ago. Rich or poor, we've been able to abide by that, unless we are out of town and there are no other choices.

The mass propaganda machine that is television and movie product placement has done a bang up job of convincing the masses, especially in America, that conformity and uniformity is the best decision. Let's get the same old food everywhere we go! But its endemic in every industry:

Home Remodeling / Construction (Home Depot or Lowe's. Ace Hardware is now a distant third)
Retail Non-Grocery (Target or Wal-Mart in our area. others driven out of business)
Retail Food (Kroger, Publix, Safeway, etc.)
Toiletries (Unilever, Proctor & Gamble. Any others?)

There's plenty of mom and pop soap makers out there at local trade shows. I'm confident that if they ever posed a real threat, the big companies would figure out a way to outlaw it in an effort to shut it down.

I haven't even broached Medicine (Johnson&Johnson) Pharmaceuticals (Pfizer, et. al.), or Agriculture (I mean monoculture).

Every single industry is dominated by a few players. We've been brainwashed into believing this was best. I agree with another poster: crush these monopolies with the anti-trust hammer; root them out and destroy their cores and watch small business flourish again. The markets are being built already. As long as the Fed isn't giving 2% loans to newly formed corporations from the ashes of the former, the playing field will have been leveled, razed if you will. I forgot to mention Real Estate. Watching the companies swoop in after 2008 with Fed backed cheap money was sickening. We had one of those company owned rental houses. It was a nightmare. Bought another house a year later. Whew. Never liked lobster much. I've found snow crab much tastier and easier to afford. All you have to do is watch the seafood fridge at your local grocery store and buy it whenever it goes on sale. Then get some potatoes, Old Bay seasoning and Cheddar Bay Biscuit mix. The crab you get at the grocers is already pre-cooked and I guarandamtee it's the exact same stuff Red Lobster gives you once it's all prepared. Just put the crab in a tall pot with an inch of water at the bottom, sprinkle Old Bay over the top of it, put some tinfoil over it, then perforate the tinfoil. The crab will take about 15 minutes to cook after it starts steaming. Prepare your sides and voila! If you play your cards right and hit sales at the right time, you can have a Red Lobster dinner for half the Red Lobster price. Why would you even consider going back after this?

Terrible, people not only can't cook but are tv heads, post lit (PLW) world (literate).

I hope Tucker has real security or gets serious about it.

RLobster, like Elby's or eat n park, its "whatever kinda food."

I hope no one loses their jobs due to these boycotts but the left is strange; they want to chase out pretty POTUS fans having dinner and wine from a nice eatery out of sheer enjoyment in their screaming and yelling but now they want to destroy fox sponsors - makes no sense.

74 They hate the family, fun times with fresh coffee served, sad thing is coffee here isn't like the espressos in other countries. Speaking of which, I found a killer blend its half decaf/caff'ed steamed with milk, so great. To full caff black with dark chocolate to dip in it, best night cap ever, sleep like a baby.

70 Well redder states or Trump lands are willing to wall off each state line, its rumor around the rust belt from the gym, something I heard, I dont know.

Blogger AaMcavoy January 08, 2019 9:34 PM

Can Fox somehow register itself in Israel so they can't be boycotted? Can I host Daily Stormtard in Israel and become immune to service denial?

I don't go anywhere and do anything as a policy. Until a company proves they are good. Unless its kroger or public gotta buy food somewhere.

@53

"Regarding seafood safety, we've been increasingly noticing wild caught fish labeled as processed in China."

For legal purposes, a ship at sea is assumed to be the sovereign territory of whatever country registers the ship.

Therefore, if a fish-processing ship processes the haul right off of the fishing boats, and the ship is registered in China, then it becomes "Processed in China" .. even if the ship is 20 miles away from the US or Canadian coastline.

That being said, I wouldn't trust fish from a Chinese-registered fish processing ship to be any less harmful to my health than fish that were raised on a Chinese fish farm, and processed in a Chinese mainland plant.

Guys I know who have to go to China for work purposes... don't even trust the food in China.... and that's food that's meant for fellow Chinese. We've already seen that they literally don't care if they sell adulterated (possibly even DELIBERATELY adulterated)food, drugs, or supplements to foreigners.

"I'm wondering if someone should start a crowdfunding campaign to buy advertising on Tucker Carlson's show. I don't know for what, it does not matter. We just need to make certain that someone is buying ads there."

"The Committee of Real Americans who enjoy Tucker Carlson and who Fervently want their Freedoms Back, which means Finishing the War Against Us which The Left has Started."

The name IS the advertisement.

"Can I host Daily Stormtard in Israel and become immune to service denial?"

Considering how much they want to keep the Holocaust Boogy-Man alive(*), I'm sure that an Isreali registrar would not only EAGERLY take the Daily Stormer, but also kick in Cloudflare support, too, to protect against both DDOS attacks and temporary server outages.

I mean, how many times have it come out, in the last 20 years, that the source of the swastikas which are tormenting some Jewish person... were discovered, upon surveillance, to be painted by said "victim" him/herself.

(*)Brother Nathaniel, born a Jew, raised in an observant Jewish household, in a Jewish neighborhood in New York City in the 1950's and 60's says that he never EVER heard of any Holocaust or death camps or anything like that until he attended college.

I have no clue where the joker who provided the quote lives, but the places that are too small to support a Mom & Pop pizza/Italian place, or a Mom n' Pop fish & chips joint, or local BBQ place, are also too small to have a McDonalds. Trust me, I've been to those places (in the rural Midwest.)

They may have a Dairy Queen, 'tho.

Blogger wahr01 January 09, 2019 5:31 AM

It's time for Tucker to start priming for a transition to the podcast and streaming scene.
He would do well to consult Joe Rogan or Alex Jones and ramp this up in preparation for an exit from fox to a direct listener support "freemium" service with minimal pay-walling.

TV is Dying, and Fox needs to die in particular.

To whom it may concern -

IHOP has chosen to remove all advertising from the "Tucker Carlson Tonight" show on Fox News.  That is your choice.  It is your money, after all.

However, I find your decision to be at odds with your policy of 'social responsibility'.  Why do you oppose voices concerned for the welfare of all Americans?  Why would your corporate brand choose to dismiss the concerns of a majority of Americans?  Why would you cast a vote against your own society?

You can choose to spend or not spend your money in any way you wish.  So can I.  My family and I will not be dining at your resataurants (IHOP and Applebees) in the foreseeable future.

Sincerely,
Etc.

Blogger Dirk Manly January 09, 2019 8:43 AM

... I WILL remember to bleed them for a meal on Veteran's Day. IHOP in the morning, Applebees later.

If the left can take our kindness and use it against us, then I have no qualms with doing the same to them.

Blogger Statix January 09, 2019 10:10 AM

It's not enough to just silently boycott these companies. They might see their sales suffer a bit, but they won't even know why. Knowing how stupid they are, they'd just as easily assume that they need to promote more SJW crap to boost sales (see Blizzard announcing that an Overwatch character was a homosexual all along).

The "silent majority" needs to stop being silent. Silence is death. The more productive path forward would be for all non-SJWs to make their voices heard, loud and clear. Leave phone messages, post on their social media pages. Express your disgust at what they're doing.

Blogger Vlad Z. January 09, 2019 10:31 AM

Isn't it all seafood except fish that Orthodox Jews don't eat? No shrimp, crabs, lobster, nuscles, clams, oysters or squid?

Didn't Jesus make it ok to eat these, just like we don't have to wear yammikas?

Blogger Purge187 January 09, 2019 10:44 AM

Vlad Z - Correct. Basically any seafood that didn't have fins and scales was outlawed before the Lord said it was all good.

I traveled a good distance to sample the closest Red Lobster a few years ago and was underwhelmed. Longhorn's filet and lobster tail combo is better.

Blogger Owen January 09, 2019 3:04 PM

There’s a red lobster in Waikiki as well. Go figure.

The average household income has to be 50k per annum.

I've an in-law who is an anesthesiologist. They denied his franchise application.

No Chik-filet has ever closed down so they know what are doing.

Blogger inthebriarpatch January 09, 2019 3:37 PM

You can. It is no longer a sin. But the stuff isnt great for ya. Bottom feeders. So anything they filter out of the water goes in you.

It's a farmer trick to throw a bunch of mussels in a dirty old pond. They will clean it up and die.

We bought a Husqvarna tiller this last year. Tractor coming soon. Indoor aquaponics coming. Solar panels and plenty of off-grid technology slowly being added.

My Pa once said, "Son, learn how to clean your house, do your laundry, and cook your food and never depend on anyone else to do it. Especially a woman."

I've used this advice to good results in many areas of my life.

Sans Hep A too.

Blogger inthebriarpatch January 09, 2019 3:44 PM

Same with eggs. We have ducks and chickens. We will never go back.

Now for raw milk. I've been putting it off because a milk animal HAS TO BE MILKED twice a day, all year.

Red Lobster is what a person might eat if they could not get any seafood. I always resist group suggestions to eat there. I grew up on the beach in North Carolina....so I know what seafood might be.

It is like Taco Bell reminds you of Mexican food. (The only Mexicans you see at Taco Bell are the ones who work there.)

For those curious about why IHOP has taken such an action, their president is Darren M. Rebelez: https://hispanicexecutive.com/2018/darren-rebelez-ihop/

Yes, they're owned by Dine Brands, but I suspect the President of the chain has some say in their advertising. This is also probably why Applebee's hasn't followed suit.
