If you're worried about privacy, Mr. Bezos
Then why don't you shut down your company's efforts to build a better surveillance state?
IF BEZOS WERE the political victim of surveillance state abuses, it would be scandalous and dangerous. It would also be deeply ironic. It's more than a little ridiculous to cry about your privacy being violated when you are literally building the system for permanently eliminating everyone's privacy.
That’s because Amazon, the company that has made Bezos the planet’s richest human being, is a critical partner for the U.S. Government in building an ever-more invasive, militarized and sprawling surveillance state. Indeed, one of the largest components of Amazon’s business, and thus one of the most important sources of Bezos’ vast wealth and power, is working with the Pentagon and the NSA to empower the U.S. Government with more potent and more sophisticated weapons, including surveillance weapons.
In December, 2017, Amazon boasted that it had perfected new face-recognition software for crowds, which it called Rekognition. It explained that the product is intended, in large part, for use by governments and police forces around the world. The ACLU quickly warned that the product is “dangerous” and that Amazon “is actively helping governments deploy it.”
“Powered by artificial intelligence,” wrote the ACLU, “Rekognition can identify, track, and analyze people in real time and recognize up to 100 people in a single image. It can quickly scan information it collects against databases featuring tens of millions of faces.” The group warned: “Amazon’s Rekognition raises profound civil liberties and civil rights concerns.” In a separate advisory, the ACLU said of this face-recognition software that Amazon’s “marketing materials read like a user manual for the type of authoritarian surveillance you can currently see in China.”

Suspect number one for the dic pic getting into the hands of the National Enquirer:
His new “mistress”.
Half the population at least wants to be a cam girl or an Instathot getting likes from the usual orbiters, so I really have little hope that we can escape the surveillance state unless an asteroid gives us an extinction level event.
Run Bezos' complaint through the A9 filter, then laugh at the list of "Amazon recommends ..." compiled.
Concur, Mantra — no way to put the tech paste back in the tube. Pass all the laws you like, and only outlaws will have the tech. Maybe that’s why everyone where’s silver suits in the future. For stealth.
Huge opportunity for anyone who can develop unobtrusive means of defeating facial recognition software. Some progress has been made with highly reflective glasses but they are limited mostly to flash or highly lighted areas and only obscure eye area and not other features used by AI.
I really feel sorry for our intellectual spergatoids, the net was supposed to bring about the golden age of reason and intellect but instead it's the never ending saga of which chicky is higher up the chicky totem pole. AOC will she outrank the Snow Whites from Manhattan, will the chicky senator from Arizona be the hottest porn star in DC, it's too early to tell but the net will cover it all in real time.
No need to outlaw tech. Change property rights and the line between public and private. Allow encryption. The deeper problem isn't tech, it's society's response. Govts and corporations conspiring to crush the individual.
I dunno why anyone would want to see Jeff Bezoses' Amazon Prime tho, it probably looks like a tiny version of his big goofy head.
AOC's position on the wealth is childish. But if the billionaires don't get in line with civil rights who will or could stand up for them when the communists comes for them?
I'd be OK with Billionaire property confiscation if my guns or speech go away.
Reap as you sow.

While that's true, it's got some very legitimate uses. One of the most profound is that it will make producing child pornography very difficult to get away with if the FBI and ICE can use it to scan porn against things like school photo IDs. As always, it's a dual-edge sword.
Won't somebody PLEASE think of the children...

The FBI could have shut down child porn a long time ago if they tried.
They have no interest in doing so because of the people involved.
Please Jimmy, don't take women at face value. AOC would flop onto her back in a microsecond for a billionaire and do things that would make Milo blush.
Since AOC does not have the looks that come to some of the corn fed gals of flyover country she is ginning up popularity with high school drama politics, and othering the spergs who fall into her gotcha traps.
Mr.MantraMan
Simply using her as a consequence. The Wealthy are riding a tiger or poking a badger with a spoon. Otherwise you are correct on AOC.

Hello, Bezos is not the richest human, on the contrary he represents a zenith of free trade. The construction is as fictitious as it was for Gates as it is for Bezos. Amazon and similar markets will take the biggest hit from the GBrexit as world markets are saturated with speculative money, every stock under nineteen dollars is worth a penny in real money.
The rekovision it doesn’t sound like new technology. This type of copy critical of a product is marketing used to grow brand awareness by writers working on behalf of these companies. Why do they consistently feel the need to state and sometimes emphasize that their subject character is not only human but living, being, and on the planet?
As Ransom notes below, thatbwill only be the case for those they choose to arrest. The greater concern is the many they never target.
Bingo
Bezos just learned a lesson about Skin-in-the-Game.

"Alexa, what is a 'petard'?"
The denouement of this little bug is proving to be a thing indeed.

Isn't that also his anti-global warming book?
@Sean Carnegie
Correct. It is also an analysis of the media-political-lawfare nexus. Well worth a read.

Yes. It was pretty good too, one of the first times I've seen someone take on eco-assh*les without blinking an eye and putting it in a pretty good techno-thriller setting. You'll probably never see it be made into a Hollyweird movie because of it...unless they change everything about it like they did for The Sum of All Fears movie. (It was...secret Nazis instead of simply being muzzie zealots like in the book. I LOL'd so hard.)
(I was referring to the antagonists in The Sum of All Fears. *sigh* I really need to stop before hitting the publish button.) xD
Have I mentioned that I don't particularly care about Bozos getting taken to the cleaners by divorce court?
Amazon is probably the biggest and best logistics company in the world. The DoD is the biggest single procurer of stuff on the planet. Logistics is the stomach of the army. They brought us bar codes and RFID tags. Therefore, Amazons's relationship with the DoD is very deep, and this facial recognition app is just a distraction. Buy Amazon. Stock, I mean. War is coming.
Rektognition, heh.

He's not worried about "privacy." He's worried about his privacy. Amazon Echo/ Alexa, anyone?
Just as the Tribe is worried about their ethnostate.
But Bezos isn't just involved in surveillance, of course. He's heavily involved in propaganda as well, since his purchase of WaPo a couple of years back. It's merely a coincidence that Amazon was awarded a $600 million CIA contract for cloud computing just a few months after the purchase. Of course, the Washington Post doesn't have any prior ties to the CIA, or anything...

Philip Graham, (((Katherine Meyer Graham))), (((Frank Wisner))), Operation Mockingbird, and the CIA/ CFR/ "news" media complex. That was back in the bad old days, though. It doesn't work like that any more. Honest.
Other parts of Big Tech Big Tech aren't part of the national security state, either:

Compared to every other federal agency, the FBI can barely shut down their own offices at night.

You walked right by the point.
It doesn't benefit anyone involved for the FBI to be a well run and competent department.
If they were effective, their own bosses would end up in prison.
And the modern intelligence community serves in a capacity somewhat similar to the Praetorian of Ancient Rome.
Does anyone else remember an old David Drake series of short stories called "Lacey and his friends"? The surveillance state predicted back in the day.

It doesn't even matter because the FBI isn't the agency that deals with most federal-level sex crimes anyway.
I've seen small to mid-sized businesses reject Amazon cloud services due to serious security concerns (plus really bad customer service). Naturally, the CIA will use it to store classified info.
Cloud service providers are the watering holes of the digital Serengeti. Guess where all the hacker go to look for prey.
Are 100% of these people this dark on the inside? I am thus far convinced that they are!
