There will be no impeachment

The Democrat-controlled House publicly backs down:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in an interview that she opposes moving to impeach President Trump even though she believes he is “unfit” for office — her first definitive statement on the subject and one that stands to alienate members of her own Democratic Party who are intent on ousting the president.

“I’m not for impeachment,” she said in a March 6 interview conducted for a future issue of The Washington Post Magazine.

“This is news,” she added. “I haven’t said this to any press person before. But since you asked, and I’ve been thinking about this, impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path because it divides the country. And he’s just not worth it.”
Interesting. I wonder what's going on behind the scenes that inspired this sudden lack of appetite for direct conflict with the God-Emperor? Other than the fact that the Special Investigator has turned up nothing despite two years of digging for dirty laundry, of course.

Omar has been funneling HFAC information to her camel jockey co-religionists, probably from her House email account, and Pelosi has been made aware that someone knows.

This seems to me to bode ill for Trump dealing with both legal and illegal immigration. No wonder Coulter's pissed. If the whole establishment--comprising large swathes of both parties--isn't talking about trying to impeach Trump then he's probably not doing his job properly. Scorched earth.

Blogger Ominous Cowherd March 11, 2019 6:32 PM

In a previous thread, someone was saying this indicates Trump's surrender. It might also indicate that Trump has backed Nancy into a corner. More likely still, the two have come to an agreement that leaves both whole. Trump wants to salvage the Left, not to destroy it. It would make perfect sense, then, to give Pelosi a deal that leaves her mostly intact.

It's a big club, and we aren't in it.

Blogger Salt March 11, 2019 6:42 PM

Perhaps she now understands the AOC fueled rift in the party and needs to appeal to the rational members of the wing she's still a part of. This is good as it will further split the dems.

Blogger doug whiddon March 11, 2019 6:52 PM

I had been reading that they wouldn't want to impeach him at the end of the term because it would distract from the upcoming election. But, if Trump pulls it off again in 2020 and the dems can keep the house and maybe add the senate, then they will try to impeach him the moment he lowers his arm after swearing in.

Blogger SemiSpook37 March 11, 2019 6:52 PM

To me, it looks like she just torpedoed the entire cohort of her party that was hell bent on pushing the investigation angle now that Mueller is wrapping things up. It’s not a good look for her, and it will likely cause further rifts within the overall caucus.

So glad I eschewed party membership on either side. They’re all morons.

Blogger Ingot9455 March 11, 2019 6:58 PM

She must have an idea of what's about to hit after Mueller officially turns in the report - the strike and the counterstrike.
The rumor mill is abuzz and generally it involves a lot of arrests. She must have looked at her information, looked down at her cards, and blinked.

Nancy Palsi is as ruthless an operator as any soulless sociopath in the Imperial City. If she could impeach Trump, then she would. If she could cut a deal with Trump and then get away with breaking it, she absolutely would; the dishonor would only increase her enjoyment.

She is also smarter than the average donkey. When it came to be more public knowledge (partly thanks to us) that antifa are commies and have been from their inception, she distanced herself from them in stronger terms than fake journalist Chris Cuomo ever used.

And, unlike all the '74 LARPers in our national embarrassment of a so-called "news media," let us remember the past: Tricky Dick resigned because he lost the confidence of his own base; Slick Willy didn't resign simply because he didn't have to, and if anything ended up more popular with his base than ever, for having endured the worst the Republicans could bring to bear and thumbing his nose at it.

Putting those three things together, my read is that the Mueller report is going to be a big fat nothingburger; and since Trump is still popular enough with his base, the Speaker of the House of Wax doesn't want to force her class allies across the aisle to actually put forth some effort and counter-investigate the Obama administration.

Good grief, there's no pleasing some people.

There will be no impeachment because there was never any basis for one. Yes, impeachment is a political process, but they need *something* to point to to justify it to Americans. We've known the Mah Russia thing was a hoax from the beginning. Mueller has been either A) spinning his wheels and collecting a paycheck while hoping some dirt on Trump falls in his lap, or B) pursuing other lines of inquiry that Flynn (among others) was able to tell him about. We've also known that the Clintons had far more dirty dealings with Russia/Ukraine than Trump ever could.

Either way, there was never any serious risk of impeachment. The Dems kept the idea alive because it got their voters to the polls in 2018. They told them a D House would impeach for sure and then something something the Senate. Now they have to start downplaying those expectations.

Blogger Vaughan Williams March 11, 2019 8:28 PM

President Trump has said since day one that his priority is to unite the country. How do you unite oil and water? How do you unite rats and rattle snakes? In both cases, it requires an extremely traumatic and violent event.

Now, Trump won't start WWIII, so we can rule that out. cf Seiner van Rensburg for the certainty of that.

The whole border invasion thing is a gimmick, and likely to be a nothing-burger.

That leaves us with one thing that is huge. We are talking once in 3000 years huge. Climate change. Grand solar minimum. Maunder minimum. Dalton minimum. New York Harbor freezing over. Growing season gets shorter, and suddenly the Minnesota winters are a couple weeks longer, and suddenly there are no more grain crops coming out of Canada and the Mid-West. And likewise around the world. The crop failures have been mounting over the past 3 years. We've been compensating, and official figures for crop production have been fudged more and more, but itz coming. What itz? Famine. Famine depresses the immune system, so it is always accompanied by plague. Yeah, there could be wars too.

Remember the Irish potato famine? Weak countries that can still produce food, will see it being stolen by stronger countries, just as abundant Ireland was robbed of her food by England. Not a single Irish soul needed to starve, if not for the English taking away their crops.

I speculate that Nancy has recently become aware that Grand Solar Minimum is real, unlike the usual climatological hocus pocus, and realizes the ensuing chaos makes all their current struggles look petty.

When the volcano blows, when the earthquake throws, then the rat and the serpent flee together, and unite in their scramble for survival. Grand Solar Minimum is just such a traumatic event for mankind. It isn't happening in the nebulous distant future. It has already started. Food prices could triple by next winter, but for the grace of God.

There is genuine demoralization going on. It's wrong to dismiss it all as shilling. I think both the positive and negative interpretations have some validity, but like @46 points out, weakness is usually not rewarded by the left.

I am absolutely convinced that the extreme black pilling that we have been seeing in the various conservative and nationalist right comment sections is an organized demoralization plan. It all started right at the State of the Union Address and hasn't let up.

The news from today where first President Trump increased his monetary demands for The Wall while saying that he's going to build an extra 500 miles of The Wall, combined with Pelosi saying that impeachment isn't going to happen should be grounds for happy optimism. Instead from a lot of these comments here and other places they just say that it is another sign that President Trump is a sellout, when the evidence literally points in the other direction.

Look at idiocy like the whole #YangGang that a lot of people are doing. That has to be organized. You've got to suspect that a lot of the people organizing these campaigns are being paid by somebody to attempt to create the perception that the ground floor of President Trump's support is about to abandon him. Once again, look at this actions. How much did his immigration reform plan increase legal immigration? Oh yeah, it was slashed by 70% over 5 years and 50% immediately. "Welcoming legal immigrants" is good rhetoric for the 75% of voters who still think "nation of immigrants" is a good thing. In reality, he could easily (IE without any say so from Congress) tighten immigration restrictions via regulation and "welcoming legal immigrants" could easily mean ~10000 a year instead of 1,000,000 a year.

It really does seem there's a lot of people who just want to despair and a lot of people who are paid to spread it. I suspect we're going to continue to see more as the 2020 campaign season really gets underway.

Playing for impeachment would galvanize his base. Slow him down with drip-drip-drip of supposedly embarrassing stuff that will be lib rage fodder on CNN.

2 scenarios:

1) Go for impeachment. Fail, dems get all depressed, republicans take momentum into 2020
2) Play for embarrassment gradually, fake news fodder. Kill time, keep the libs engaged and mad. Trend of America now is towards diversity and dissolution, so to win the game the only thing you have to do is NOT make a move.

Blogger InformationMerchant March 12, 2019 3:30 AM

This is the best course of actions for the Dems, especially given what happened since Pelosi did that interview.

1: They have nothing remotely credible to even moderate Democrats let alone moderate Republicans to impeach him.

2: The easiest way to rally Trump's base is to attack him.

3: Nothing particularly crazy is going on right now, Trump ended the government shutdown and isn't on the attack at the moment. If he went after sanctuary cities or did something else to shake up the hornets' nest I wouldn't be surprised to see the Dems slightly more unified in favour of impeachment.

4: Impeaching Trump is the closest realistic thing there is to crossing the Rubicon. It's entirely possible there would be no consequences, but if there are no consequences then the separatists, the people concerned about an imminent left vs right civil war*, etc will know nothing is going to happen no matter what. The right will never do anything.

* I'm talking about a specific type of person here. These are usually the boomer types that aren't cognizant of demographic change but think America going too far left might suddenly trigger a civil war or that the left will try to take everyone's guns at once and that'll trigger a civil war.

The left is extremely good at playing the long game. They excel at not giving people a chance to draw a line in the sand.

Sidenote, that hitpiece on Tucker Carlson indicates he's on the front lines. The left has been trying to play carrot and stick with Trump this entire time. When he does something "good" like take a pro war position they praise him and stop attacking him for a while. When he does something "bad" like shut down the government for a wall, they arrest people. Trump doesn't have to completely sell out for the Dems to lay off him for a bit. They're happy to be nice in exchange for a "less bad" Trump from their point of view, meanwhile if Trump was their worst nightmare version of Trump, they'd have riots in the streets.

OR he has been SAYING he's 'for mass immigration' ... Does it seem likely that this insanely successful businessman who built an empire of his own has 'forgotten' all the info he got (yes, maybe from Coulter's book "Adios America"! Horrific book, and totally eye opening!)

He gets into office, gets privy to WAY more horrific info about just how completely the U.S. is effed, and has to herd stupid demented cats (most of the American populace)(no offense intended toward cats!) to try to keep it from burning down? (Have you read "Art of the Deal"? He even said, there, in the campaign, and after that he make an outrageous first offer, so he can negotiate back down to what will actually get his building built. Yes?)

Remember DACA? How did his manuevering end up? (If it even has ended yet...) Yeah, they're not deported (dammnit!) -- but the Dems have forgotten they even EXIST, after betraying them! Who won THAT little negotiation dance?

#YangGang is retarded and nihilistic, but you have to be delusional to not be disappointed in Trump. He's been championing mass legal immigration for at least a month now.

Not only that, he says he's "winning" on the border just as illegal crossings hit an 11 year high....

#YangGang is pretty retarded though, especially among those who claim to be former Trump supporters. Seriously, how fuckin high do you have to be to think any socialist Dem is ever, ever gonna do anything for poor working class whites? The whole Democratic party is all about sticking it to whitey now, first and foremost. Even if Yang somehow won (bwahahaha... no) and even if he wanted to help poor whites (probably not), he'd never be allowed to let white people in on the YANGBUX!!!, the Dem base would riot if he tried.

Blogger DonReynolds March 12, 2019 6:49 AM

This smells like a brother-in-law deal between Trump and Pelosi/Schumer. Trump does a stunning 180 turn on his position on immigration and the next day.... impeachment is off the table.

DHS is still busing the border crossers deep into the USA for release and a million and a half of illegal aliens who have been ordered out of the country by the immigration courts have been untouched. After exhausting all possible appeals, many have been ignoring the order to deport for years and years without penalty. They are the lowest hanging fruit for any significant effort to deport illegal aliens.

Blogger InformationMerchant March 12, 2019 6:49 AM

@105 They don't think he'll win.

Dems don't have a problem reducing whites to dependence on welfare, that's not "doing anything for poor working class whites", besides as much as Dems would love to 80% of the population to vote to leech from the top 20%, they don't get voted in and implement single payer healthcare and other massive social programs.

Again, people aren't coming away disappointed in Trump, the only guy not controlled by donors, and putting their faith in another politician keeping his promises.

The effect is the important part. Trump attacked Coulter and all of the dozen plus memes that I saw were Yang related. The one exception to this wasn't a technically meme but a Ben Garrison cartoon and he got completely destroyed in his own tweet's replies. This is the only statement the people that memed him into office can make.

In addition to Trump's meme support vanishing and some meme support appearing for some Dem, the actual memes themselves aren't even targeted at Dems. It's absolutely not going to resonate with leftists to see all the memes that convey the message that all is lost, may as well get $1000 a month.

The most common memes are:

The two buttons meme. One button says "unending immigration, loss of social cohesion, national collapse", the other says "same but also $1000".

The meme divided in two with Trump's excuses on the left such as all the people fighting against him. On the right is just $1000.

@104 "Remember DACA? How did his manuevering end up? (If it even has ended yet...) Yeah, they're not deported (dammnit!) -- but the Dems have forgotten they even EXIST, after betraying them! Who won THAT little negotiation dance?"

This a win for you?

DACA is ongoing, Trump didn't end it, the states contesting it stopping contesting it as they assumed Trump would deal with it. As of January the Supreme Court hadn't agreed to hear any case involving it.

The current status is: All the people are still here and can continue to renew work permits and suchlike.

What more could Dems have hoped for? Only amnesty, meanwhile the next Dem president can try to give them amnesty.

The DACA people that were betrayed by the dems are in the same position they were before.

Blogger DonReynolds March 12, 2019 7:09 AM

"What more could Dems have hoped for? Only amnesty, meanwhile the next Dem president can try to give them amnesty."

The only president to do a mass amnesty of illegal aliens was Republican.

When the Dems held the White House, both houses of Congress, and the Judiciary, did they give amnesty and instant citizenship to the illegal aliens? NO. They could have done so with even more votes than was used to pass Obamacare... some of the Republipukes would vote for Amnesty and you already know which ones.

Trump doesn't have to abandon his base to lose, they only have to think he did. Trump doesn't have to deliver for his base to win, we only have to think he did.

Trump's plan for his first term is probably backend-loaded, with a planned crescendo in Fall 2020. In the mean time, it would be good if he would jolly us along a bit.

Yep. The memes aren't targeted at the Dem base, who the people propagating them loathe with a passion. They also aren't targeted towards BoomerCons or even older GenXers. They're passed around by and for young American ultranats. It's a symptom of their disillusionment with current low-energy Trump, but primarily a way to keep themselves motivated and energized in the culture war, even without any assistance from the guy they voted for.

Older folks may not "get it" but it's far better the kids do this than just blackpill on politics entirely and completely give up engaging in the broader culture. Morale is important, even if it takes the form of ironic support for some silly no-hoper Asian candidate.

The reason why Pelosi is not willing to support impeachment against Trump is because it won't go anywhere if they did. The GOP house voted to impeach Clinton in 1998 over the Monica Lewinsky thing and ended up looking like complete dolts for doing so. If the Democratic house chose to do the same thing this time, they would look like equally stupid dolts. Actual impeachment requires 2/3's of Senate vote.

I merely pay attention to history.

Politicians can’t do anything without money. The monied jet-set can’t have their weird hobbies without having laws made to protect them.

It’s an incestuous relationship, one that has held true for centuries.

I don’t give a damn for them either way as long as they leave me and mine alone.

But they never do.

It’s all about the lust for power.

And looking at history, I can’t bring myself to trust either politicians or the rich, no matter how much they claim to be my friend.
