I recently removed another bank account from it completely as well as cards connected with Credit Card companies. I still use PayPal because it is just something you have to use on certain sites but I try to avoid it precisely because of stuff like this.

Honestly, I'm just surprised it didn't happen to the Big Bear sooner. I signed up with Unauthorized just the other day and I plan to keep supporting it. Considering how new and unready it apparently was, everybody behind the scenes has done a fantastic job! It looks great and there is plenty I'm interested in watching.

Evil is hard at work this Holy Week but no matter what, we are ultimately on the winning side.

eBay. Back when PayPal joined the chorus of everybody attacking North Carolina for trying save girls' locker rooms I made an effort to get folks to cancel their PayPal accounts and it failed hard. PayPal is essential for eBay (or at least it was at the time -- I cut ties with both sites).

I found that very, very few (meaning myself alone pretty much!) were willing to cut ties with eBay to make a stand. Only the Left has the discipline for boycotts and in boardrooms everywhere people know it.

Social media trip up because they're either a town square or a newspaper. There's no in between option for them, so they can't just ban as much as they want to without running the risk of being held liable for everything said on their websites like a newspaper would be. They'd get sued for defamation, libel, copyright infringement, etc.

The argument about them being not being honest and thus committing a crime based on fraud/false advertising is largely untested. The logic goes "I spent X years putting X hours into my content on X site because they told me I wouldn't be purged for political opinions". I don't think anyone has even tried to sue for that, it sounds pretty hard considering the platform vs publisher thing is incredibly obvious and no one has enforced that law. I don't think that's going to work for payment processors even if it worked for twitter/facebook/youtube because there are so many and it's not the same as them demolishing a physical store or deleting you from a platform.

My advice, other than not using it at all, would be never to put a significant amount of money in their care. If they hold onto $30 for 180 days, that's not a biggie for me. But I've heard stories of people having tens of thousands frozen. What in the world were they doing passing that kind of cash through some website?

Chargebacks can occur for up to 180 days with credit cards, if a dispute goes the full length pre-arbitration. If a chargeback occurs, they forcibly take the money back from Paypal. To avoid a situation where they pay Owen and then lose the money and can't collect, they hold the funds for this long. Usually a closed account is the result of bad business; bad business usually results in chargebacks. While that is not the case here, it is the reason for the policy.
