A tale of two blasphemies

It is now abundantly clear that the self-appointed champions of "free speech" never actually believed a word they were saying. They merely wanted to replace the blasphemy laws of Christian society with the hate speech laws of anti-Christian society. But the Christian societies of Eastern Europe aren't falling for the free speech lie that has trapped most of the West:
A woman has been arrested on suspicion of offending religious sentiment, after posters bearing an image of the Virgin Mary with her halo painted in the colours of the rainbow flag appeared in the city of Płock in central Poland.

The Polish interior minister, Joachim Brudziński, announced on Twitter on Monday that a person had been arrested for “carrying out a profanation of the Virgin Mary of Częstochowa”.

A Płock police spokeswoman confirmed a 51-year-old woman had been arrested over the alleged offence. The woman had been abroad, but upon her return, the police entered and searched her home, where they found several dozen images of the Virgin Mary with the rainbow-coloured halo.

Offending religious feeling is a crime under the Polish penal code. If convicted, the woman could face a prison sentence of up to two years.

Brudziński, who described the posters as “cultural barbarism” when they appeared overnight in April, said: “Telling stories about freedom and ‘tolerance’ doesn’t give anyone the right to offend the feelings of believers.”

Poland’s ruling rightwing Law and Justice party (PiS) has sought to mobilise its core electorate in the run-up to the European elections by raising the spectre of the country being overwhelmed by western liberal social values.

“We are dealing with a direct attack on the family and children – the sexualization of children, that entire LBGT movement, gender,” said the PiS leader, Jarosław Kaczyński, speaking to supporters last month. “This is imported, but they today actually threaten our identity, our nation, its continuation and therefore the Polish state.”
Make the blasphemy laws great again. After all, many of them are still on the books.

The Black Madonna of Częstochowa is a VERY revered icon in Poland. This is a sure way to piss off the majority of Poles. The only people pissed off by the arrest are the other leftists.

http://www.thenews.pl/1/9/Artykul/419139,Detaining-of-Polish-LGBT-activist-%E2%80%98lawful%E2%80%99-interior-minister

Poland’s interior minister has defended police who detained an LGBT activist suspected of putting up posters depicting the country’s most revered religious icon with a rainbow halo.

The activist was charged with offending religious beliefs after altered images of the Black Madonna of Częstochowa were placed near a church in Płock, central Poland.

The posters showed the Virgin Mary with a halo resembling the rainbow flag of the LGBT community.

Interior Minister Joachim Brudziński denounced what he said was an “act of provocation and profanation of the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary.”

The detention of the activist on Monday was “absolutely lawful,” Brudziński said in an interview for public broadcaster Polish Radio.

Grzegorz Schetyna, opposition Civic Platform (PO) party leader, called the detention “despicable.”

“None of this would happen in a normal country,” Schetyna wrote on Twitter on Tuesday.

If the detained activist, Elżbieta Podleśna, is found guilty of offending religious beliefs, a crime under the Polish penal code, she could face up to two years in prison and a fine.

Ninety-three percent of Poles declare themselves to be Catholic, according to Roman Catholic Church officials.

The Black Madonna of Częstochowa is considered Poland’s most important religious icon. A small painting of the Virgin Mary on a wooden panel, it has hung in the Pauline monastery in Częstochowa, southern Poland, since 1384. It is venerated by Roman Catholics and Christians from across the world.

It's still hard to be against free speech, but I think reciprocity is far more important. Somehow I feel relieved to see the polish people defending their culture and our religion, but also a bit like a tyrant for imposing such strict limitations.. the remnants of the indoctrination are still present. Sometimes its hard to see why do we believe in some things that we do... where indoctrination ends and truth begins...

Or maybe we should just turn the other cheek. Let's see, seventy times seven is 490. When I get to 491 times I've forgiven leftists, am I allowed to do something different? The trouble with Christianity is that it's too easily emasculated as a religion of peace and love and forgiveness. The best it can do these days is allow it's members to protest their opposition, BFD. There is no Church Militant that says it's ok to go out and physically attack the enemy. Unfortunately, leftists have declared existential war, and anything less than lethal force will be so long-term as to its effects that it will be essentially useless. The Christophobes will have wiped 99% of Christians off the map by that time, and the rest will be hiding underground.

Poland was a bulwark back in the day, hundreds of years ago when the Catholic Church actually had a backbone. It acknowledged the concept of just war, and acted accordingly. But those days are long gone. Anybody who thinks they're coming back is a fool. What possible exegesis could even be used to support it? Answer: none. Jesus overthrew a table or two on the Temple grounds, but that doesn't really provide much basis for eradicating every leftist off the face of the planet.

This is not a political struggle. Leftism is a secular religious cult. We are in an existential war with Equality, the holy fantasy that is worshiped at the core of the leftist religion. It's going to take another religion to fight a religion. It comes down to one type of value system versus another type of value system, one kind of morality against another kind of morality. There is no room for compromise between warring religions when leftists have vowed to destroy all others, especially traditional Christianity. Everything rabid leftists do to prosecute this war, no matter how devoid of consistency, legality, truth, reason, or factual reality itself, they do because they believe they are morally entitled. Leftists are eager to sacrifice you, your family, and your nation on the bloody altar of their holy narratives. And they repeatedly prove that their religion is stronger than Christianity, although no Christian is honest enough to admit it.

Meanwhile, all that Christianity allows its adherents to do is roll over and bare their throats, while waiting for an eschatological nirvana. As per VD, Christianity was part of the triumvirate that built Western Civilization. But now it has no realistic way, no viable ideological basis to defend itself. Without some kind of belief system to motivate the same kind of militant, fervent zeal against them, leftists are going to win without even drawing a sweat. And whatever remains of Christianity will have only itself to blame. (No, LARPing after Thor isn't going to cut it, either.)

The Black Madonna draws thousands or tens of thousands of pilgrims on literally any day of the year who then often have to wait for hours before they are allowed to catch a short glimpse of the Madonna.

The rainbow is being desecrated as well, and the covenant has been broken. Will God therefore renege on his promise and send a global flood once again?

Genesis 9:12–15:

This is the sign of the covenant which I make between Me and you, and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. It shall be, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the rainbow shall be seen in the cloud; and I will remember My covenant which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh (NKJV).

The time was when the rainbow was a Christian symbol, a reference to God's covenant with Noah and his descendants that the Flood would never happen again.
Giving Mary the mother of Jesus a rainbow halo could be taken to mean that through the birth of Jesus, judgement is passed, forgiveness has come.

Not, of course, what an LGBT activist would mean by it - I doubt that such a person would even be able to understand.

One day hopefully, rainbows will be made great again.

Blogger Ryan G May 10, 2019 6:18 AM

I have to disagree about this.

Government's throughout the West regularly fail to properly execute their three core, primary functions: enforcement of the law via the police, arbitration of disputes by the courts, and the protection of country with the military. Giving them the power to decide what constitutes blasphemy and throw offenders in prison seems akin to giving a lunatic, who cannot even perform basic personal hygiene, a loaded weapon.

Furthermore, politics is downstream from culture. Laws that enforce cultural mores that are not held by the overwhelming majority of the people are laws that will be difficult, if not impossible, to enforce. They also almost never produce the effect desired. Look at the results of decades long "War on Drugs" to see how well that government program worked for reducing drug usage.

Finally, I do not see how such a state power could not one day be used against Christians. Political winds shift, radicals get into power, lobbyists from different groups constantly chip away at the original intent of laws to favor them. The best laws are those you would not fear if they were wielded by your worst enemy.

Blogger Constantin May 10, 2019 6:25 AM

Good point. And I notice that those, left and right, who are and would be so outraged and offended by this woman being arrested, wouldn't bat an eye for somebody being arrested for misuse or misappropriation of a Coca-Cola logo (and this is especially the case for most on "the Right" who believe in anything "the market" and their corporate masters tell them).

As we near the end, the lines are being drawn more and more clearly between who follows Christ and who follows Anti-Christ.

@44. VD - I don't understand. State power is being used against Christians. So the solution to that problem is get it side with Christians? Why wouldn't removing the state's authority to do so either way be a more practical solution?

If the ability to rescind that power is beyond the ability of the people, then it stands to reason that it is also beyond their power to modify it in the favor of a preferable group, like Christians. If the ability to rescind that power is within the ability of the people, then they should do so to deny any future exploitation.

Blogger Damn the torpedos May 10, 2019 8:00 AM

There is no such thing as free speech

There is only the question of who sets the blasphemy laws.

Blogger dc.sunsets May 10, 2019 8:47 AM

People of similar mind should not compel each other to live with those whose beliefs, behaviors and culture are inimical to theirs. The entire premise of "freedom to" is and always was a means to force people to coexist with the intolerable. This predictably disastrous notion now defines the West.

A peaceful world can only exist when people who believe differently live apart from each other, and each set of beliefs bequeaths to its adherents ALL of the unmitigated consequences thereof. End the socialism (diffusing the consequences) of folly and evil. Let those who choose wrongly live their choices IN FULL. Poland's police action is consistent with this.

The last 150 years were a time of incorporation, whereby vast populations were compelled to join in geographic mono-culture/cults of Universalism, a belief system irreconcilable with personal conscience and with Nature itself.

After 150 years of exponentially-rising coercion to coexist with the intolerable, countries most afflicted with Universalist cult dogma are powder-kegs of seething rage, just looking for a spark.

Blogger VD May 10, 2019 9:02 AM

Does it require more evidence this retarded strategy will not work?

You are fighting the last war.

Your definition of war is dubious. The last battle is the current war, and you can expect more struggle should we hope to succeed. Drawing ever shrinking lines "protecting" territory once held due to deranged notions of equal treatment by the enemy is not fighting the last battle. It is not fighting.

Blogger dc.sunsets May 10, 2019 9:34 AM

I finally see how communists think.

Their covalent attachment to Marxism is the obverse of libertarianism's base-metal coin. I once was a dyed-in-the-wool libertarian anarchist. It's embarrassing to see how blind I was to the Nature of Man.

I never realized just how subversive to reason is Jefferson's Declaration of Independence. It is just as much a statement of magical thinking as is Das Kapital. And atheists deride Christianity as "belief in magic...."

People can be free. Free to live and believe differently...somewhere ELSE. Enshrining "freedom" in law is identical to inviting mold and bacterial spores into your refrigerator in the name of doctrinaire, comprehensive and consistent zoonotic liberty. (facepalm.)

Freedom of speech? Not around my children. Not where it disturbs my peace. Not when it seeks to corrupt those systems on which I, living in a differentiated economic system, depend. Not when it seeks to force me to accept, if not patronize the utterly depraved and intolerable.

The atoms of human interaction are now forced into too-close interaction between existentially adversarial beliefs and actions, much the same way an implosion atom bomb compresses a critical mass of U235.

I await the inevitable mushroom cloud.

Blogger Azure Amaranthine May 10, 2019 10:22 AM

This is some idiot dream you have that we ever left them. We just changed the ideology.

" Vox loves them, but I think they would use them to stop any criticism of Islam."

They already do. Been sleeping long under that rock?

"Laws that enforce cultural mores that are not held by the overwhelming majority of the people are laws that will be difficult, if not impossible, to enforce."

Depends on how they work. The root of the problem is that Christians haven't been punishing people for stepping over the line, because many of us have become soft. Harden up, and the punishments will work and be enforced just fine.

"Why wouldn't removing the state's authority to do so either way be a more practical solution?"

Because if the state doesn't do it the municipality will, and then the local community. In addition, the state won't ever give up that power until it's destroyed. Also, as has been said over, and over, and over again, many of the blasphemy laws are still on the books. All it takes is people prosecuting them.

Politics is down stream of culture, but culture is down stream of demographics. The politics in a multi-cultural (multi-tribal) society will be as chaotic and contentious as the culture.

The libertarian dream of letting anybody say anything short of yelling fire in a crowded theater can not work in the long term, especially in a multi-cultural framework, because only semi-autistic men and/or idealistic teenagers of Anglo-American extraction is interested in that. All other groups will and are scrambling to grab the power of the government and culture to suppress speech they hate. Currently the lefty progs have that power. If nothing is done they will eventually be supplanted by Muslims. Both seek to convert the heretic, or failing that, shut him up and relegate him to untouchable status.

You may not like the culture war and the things that go with it, like restrictions on speech, but your dislike isn't keeping it from happening. Go ask the Littlest Chickenhawk and the other members of the dork web how begging your enemies to accept free speech is working out. Hint, it isn't. There can be no libertarian version of free speech because absolutely no one else wants to play that game. They will not leave you alone, ever, so you have to chose to either submit or fight back. If gamergate teaches any lesson it's that.

You are not in authority here, little gamma man. You have no right to assume anything about me and I don't have any duty to explain anything to you.
You have several duties under the Rules of the Blog:

2. You are expected to back up your assertions, so don't be surprised if you happen to get called on them. If you fail to back up an assertion when called on it, but refuse to retract the statement, understand that we reserve the right to delete the relevant comment and all subsequent comments you attempt to make... The dishonest and evasive tactics that are so common in Internet argumentation are not permitted here.
5. You are expected to be polite to your fellow commenters, especially if you don't know them. The regulars, who have been commenting here for years and know each other reasonably well, often engage each other in a vicious and vituperative manner that you should not try to imitate because you are not an accepted part of the group yet. Take your best shot, by all means, but attack the idea, not the individual.
11. In general, you will be well-served if you stop to think for thirty seconds and read everything twice before responding to it. It's also wise to ask if your assumptions are correct before launching critical attacks.
14. If you give a moderator reason to believe that you are not interested in honest, straightforward interaction, he will simply spam your comments.

That is absolutely beyond the pale and completely unacceptable discourse on this blog. I'm not even a Catholic, but literally not a single Catholic on here is "defending" the despicable practices of the "modern" RCC priesthood.

Being "excommunicated" by the currently-reigning AntiPope would be a mark of honor for God-fearing Catholics. Fuck lil' ol' Frankie and his heresy and blasphemy.

Snidely is correct; you owe him a huge apology, or, if you refuse, he is perfectly within his rights to ban you for a hundred years.

Utterly disgusting comment. Shame on you Rhology.

Ban him for breaking the Peace of Westphalia. That's reason enough.

Rhology, you wouldn't happen to be a fan of Germanization of Poles, would you? I find it odd that you have a problem with the first Christian nation of that area and likely put Lutheranism above what Poles chose for themselves. Or are you a bandit Hussite?

@Rhology: This thread isn't about the failings of any particular Christian denomination, whether Catholic, Protestant or Orthodox.

It's about the fact that 'Free Speech' has been used as an Anti-Christian weapon and that it is about time Christians fought back, like Poland is doing.

...and by the by when are you heading to Poland to 'evangelize' them, you seem quite keen on this.

Re Poland: PA, an occasional commenter here and at Heartiste, has his own blog post about this - which includes really edifying examples of obscene Western advertisements altered for approval in Poland - i.e. mixed race homosexual couple with a dusky girl child becomes a normal White family with a boy. intolerance for blasphemy
