Darkstream 383: Jordanetics Rule 06

This is where you can discuss tonight's Darkstream if you wish, which addressed the sixth of Jordan Peterson's 12 rules for life.

Wow. The stream was so much better without comments, much easier to follow and understand, much more streamlined.

Blogger NP_see May 15, 2019 8:48 PM

Vox's silencing of critics is the harbinger of an apocalyptic butthurt outbreak in gamma land this fine evening. It's a beautiful thing to witness the Supreme Dark Lord at work.

Blogger Zaklog the Great May 15, 2019 8:53 PM

Okay, everyone 'fess up. How long has it been since you, personally, have secretly dreamed of committing mass slaughter because the world did not live up to your expectations?

Blogger Martin Marprelate May 15, 2019 9:11 PM

We must become jungian archetype of the couch potato.

Blogger sammibandit May 15, 2019 9:21 PM

It's totally unsettling how he didn't will himself to do something when witnessing violence against his child. This guy talks about confronting daddy problems but he fails that. Just skates by it.

Blogger State Estimation May 15, 2019 9:44 PM

I can see the headline now: MASHED SLAUGHTER OF COUCH POTATOES! "They were so sweet and didn't do nothin'!"

Agreed, closing off comments was a great move.

That said, I'd still be in favor of one stream per week devoted to Stupid Question Night.

Once this morning reading about all the things to do with climate change and once this afternoon when I saw a deer had got in and ate all the columbine flowers.

Other than that, pretty chill.

@3 You got me! I fantasized just last week!

Blogger Doktor Jeep May 15, 2019 10:26 PM

I just wondered that maybe libertarianism failed because it was all about "free speech" and the concept of free speech is just one big shield that gammas use to protect their rage delivery system. Hence it drew in lots of gammas. Lots of gammas in a movement = failure.

Blogger Horn of the Mark May 15, 2019 10:30 PM

This shorter, more focused format is much appreciated. The comments are mostly a distraction to host and viewer.

Blogger Sherlock May 15, 2019 10:46 PM

I strongly preferred the comment-free stream. When I listen to a radio talk show, I never tune in to hear the callers.

Blogger Dave May 15, 2019 10:55 PM

As of 4962 views, thumb's up are beating back the attack of the thumb's down: 502 to 386. No doubt many butthurt youtubers attempting to show their displeasure over the disabled chat window.

Compare previous Darkstreams;
11167 views, 716-208
13362 views, 759-117
20385 views, 1k-87
10229 views, 601-24

Blogger Garuna May 15, 2019 11:06 PM

Wow one of the best streams in a while. Didn't miss the chat at all.

Blogger Unknown May 15, 2019 11:16 PM

Dang, I thought the new mods in the chat were going to be enough to deal with gammas and it wouldn't come to this. Looking forward to 30k subscribers and members only chat.

Blogger Damn the torpedos May 15, 2019 11:51 PM

So grateful that you turned the comments off Vox

Much shorter and focused

Blogger Vulgar_Display May 16, 2019 12:03 AM

I didn't know there was a stream tonight. First time I got no notification when it went live.

Blogger HouellebecqGurl May 16, 2019 12:09 AM

Hard to say...maybe 5 minutes ago?

Blogger Dave Dave May 16, 2019 12:20 AM

Nearly everything Peterson says that isn't directly about himself is a projection of some sort. 12 Rules reads like nonsense to us because we have the pleasure of not being inside his head, but to him it makes perfect sense and it's all about him. He himself is the target demographic. He doesn't even follow his own advice.

Blogger Dave Dave May 16, 2019 12:22 AM

Doktor Jeep, I completely agree. I have realised that the people who benefit from any sort of freedom are those that would be persecuted without it. What they want to say and do is unacceptable, so they must break down all the rules.

Blogger Azure Amaranthine May 16, 2019 12:27 AM

Dreamt? Not so much. Thought about optimal tactics, strategies, or targets? On the daily.

As for Peterson, his philosophy is one of cowardice, one of people who are forever victims rather than agents, and are so by choice. He is a man ruled by fear. He would believe that if you do not act you cannot sin, but the reality is that you cannot avoid all action without refusing all choice, and both never acting and never choosing are certainly sins.

You might say his philosophy is similar to Buddhism, in that both see the world as pain, and the only way to be free of pain is not to feel at all. To extinguish the flame of your spirit, your essential life. Liberation from samsara. Escape into the void of nirvana. Distilled cowardice.

Blogger Up from the pond May 16, 2019 12:48 AM

I like the focus on Vox. I don't like comments.

Superchats: I could put up with them just fine.

Blogger Gregory the Great May 16, 2019 5:35 AM

It is much better without the comments. As it is shorter I now have more time to listen to Castalia's audiobooks.

Blogger John S May 16, 2019 6:02 AM

@11

Libertarianism failed because it was a gamma theocracy in the first place. It was a theocracy designed to let people whine about the government and feel good about demanding less government, without having to do the dirty job of destroying and bankrupting the forces that push for big government.

Blogger Andy Evick May 16, 2019 6:14 AM

Great stream. Clear and concise.

That said, questions from Frank Underwood, Sir Hamster, Nuclear Pizza, etc., were generally thought-provoking, and a weeklyu-questions stream may prove valuable in the future.

Or not. Regardless, I really enjoyed the stream, Vox.

Blogger TheKman May 16, 2019 6:18 AM

I liked the stream a lot. Wouldn't mind if future streams are without chat too. Sure "aaand you're banned" was entertaining but it gets too distracting with all the gammas mobbing the streams.

Blogger Unknown May 16, 2019 7:05 AM

I liked the comment free, chat free Darkstream. It was focused, and I learned a lot in about half the time. It was like a mini Voxiversity.

Blogger Avalanche May 16, 2019 7:25 AM

@3 " How long has it been since you, personally, have secretly dreamed of committing mass slaughter because the world did not live up to your expectations?"

What??! You mean for some people it actually stops? There are periods of time when they do not burn for this!?

Blogger Don't Call Me Len May 16, 2019 7:26 AM

@3 - Does thinking "How hard can it be to devise a independently targeted virus delivery nanobot?" count?

Blogger Azimus May 16, 2019 8:19 AM

I believe the "members only" chat that is unrestricted to the members will be the ideal format - but I also suspect that like BB younwon't be able to enjoy if for long.

Blogger Stacey May 16, 2019 8:28 AM

I loved the gamma-free stream.

Blogger Mark K. May 16, 2019 8:33 AM

Long time reader and viewer here. I can't emphasize enough how much I prefer the darkstream without ANY chat. That was so much easier to follow. If I wasn't already a premium subscriber I'd say having no chat in the futurewould be the thing that would get me to sign up. Maybe all the chat and q&a sessions could just be separate whenever Vox feels up to it. Again, absolutely loved the stream without any chat at all.

Blogger MidnightSun May 16, 2019 9:08 AM

I started listening to your streams a few years back. I looked forward to them because the educational value of your Darkstreams are a rare thing to find on the internet. Back then the comments and questions were of a higher quality and the conversation led to interesting debates and meaningful insights. Most would only comment when they actually had a point to make or disagreed with what you opined. A few months back when the 12-year-olds invaded the stream, the chat became more of a distraction because one had to weed out the insignificant comments and side conversations that were taking place. It got to a point where you were spending more time on schooling the immature imbeciles than on the actual topic. So I agree with you in disabling the chat but truly miss the meaningful interaction that went along with it.

Blogger LP916 May 16, 2019 9:51 AM

Vast improvement, via listening only.

Better listening thanks to no interruptions, no disrespect, no drama, no leveling (lvling is the anti bear along with lobsters gumming up the presentation) just a relaxed cerebral monologue.

I retain pity for the vfm/mods, they were barraged not that they mind. Not that I would know who they are but they were mistreated - its not right.

Youtube mentality can be like yahooIM chat and that is all bad.

Blogger LP916 May 16, 2019 9:53 AM

36 It would be nice if Q/A was separate.

Moving on, thanks for mod'ing every comment at your blog. Thank you mods.

Blogger LP916 May 16, 2019 9:56 AM

28 There are other places like an after party to discuss among groups, etc.

Blogger Gregory the Great May 16, 2019 10:03 AM

@3 re mass slaughter...
I admit it crossed my mind with respect to certain immensely annoying groups. I know I am in good company (Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot etc.).

Blogger dtungsten May 16, 2019 10:37 AM

I find the connection drops very distracting. Without the chat, one might as well record it and then upload to alleviate the drops. Then again, maybe that will be resolved in short order and it won't matter. I recommend using a direct recording for uploading to unauthorized, rather than pulling it from the stream. That would alleviate any dropouts should connectivity issues occur.

The lack of chat is something of an improvement. I do miss the much better quality of questions when the audience was much smaller, but we were already missing out on that as it was.

Blogger chronoblip May 16, 2019 10:45 AM

Gammas complain about the current state of WoW for the same basic reasons as they will Vox's comment policy. When WoW was "harder", people were forced to put up with gammas in order to progress. As the game got "easier", such interactions were no longer forced, and gammas found themselves hating the people they could actually manage to play with, because it was all the other social rejects like them.

Peterson's couch potato exists to create a sustainable business model. If people got out of their own heads, and focused on actions instead of their emotions, they might not need Peterson and those like him want to charge for perpetual diagnosing. Any prescription which would address the ailment would kill the business model, so the skill is in repackaging the diagnosis over and over and hoping nobody figures out why nothing has ever changed.

Parasites, the whole lot, and it is not a surprise why they are so deeply reviled when they are exposed completely for what they are.

Blogger Tars Tarkas May 16, 2019 10:47 AM

This cut the Darkstream in half and cut the viewer size significantly. The live viewers normally hangs around the 1000 mark and last night it was around 5-600.

While there were no interruptions, it felt more like a Voxiversity than a Darkstream.

I thought I remembered someone saying there is a discord server, but discord has a bad reputation for doxing.

Is there any way we can get a gadget for lowering the resolution on unauthorized? I tried watching Chuck Dixon yesterday and the resolution is too high (or it is in 60fps) and it crashes my browser (Palemoon). My PC has a non-standard 1/2 height case so upgrading my video card is not really an option. I tried a different browser (Firefox) and the only way I could get the video to play was to scroll it up off the screen so the video wasn't actually showing, but I could at least listen.

I have often thought that the Buddhist approach to Nirvana was essentially Satanic in that anyone seeking non-being by merging being into the one is essentially committing suicide by surrendering to Satan, who wants to destroy what God has created while God demands independent agents who choose to submit willingly to him. This surrender requires active being, not passive non-being. In addition, the whole structure of Buddhism centers on denial, not only of being but of everything that makes up the physical universe that Romans tells us speaks to the glory of God and his creative power. It attacks everything about what God did in Genesis in bringing the universe and mankind into existence. In essence, it is fundamentally Satanic.

Blogger Yordan Yordanov May 16, 2019 12:43 PM

Thank you for killing the chat.

Blogger David son of Mark May 16, 2019 12:46 PM

I liked the focused nature of the stream without comments. However since less gammas show up when the chat is turned off, maybe the chat can be reopened midstream or near the end since most (if not all) the gammas will have rage quit by then. The less notice the better since it will essentially be only for those who are still engaged with the stream.

Blogger Panzerdude May 16, 2019 4:45 PM

Agree with many of the above, the stream is more enjoyable by being more focused. I also like the time saved!!!

Blogger Tanjil Bren May 16, 2019 5:10 PM

"A few months back when the 12-year-olds invaded the stream..."

I noticed this too. Can anyone identify the milestone?

Otherwise, this latest, distraction-free DS was a huge improvement and a pleasure to listen to.
A focused, coherent, and (more importantly) emergent mind dump is a relatively rare thing to see.
You were also able to get through your message a lot faster (and so it was less of a thief of your time).

I'm glad you switched off the comments.

Blogger Tanjil Bren May 16, 2019 5:11 PM

"I have often thought that the Buddhist approach to Nirvana was essentially Satanic..."

It is.

The streams without the chat are sooo much better. Please don't ever turn chat back on. No one wants to read all those gamma trolls from Revenge of the Cis with their loser comments about Hot Dish, pseudo intellectualism, teddy spaghetti, and so forth. Keep up the fight

@47 agreed
Ideal solution: Open the chat midstream after topic of the day and shop talk

Blogger Jordan Petersons Hot Cousin May 17, 2019 10:41 AM

I think the lack of a chat, even superchats, is probably for the best. While I really valued the interaction and ability to ask direct questions, this more focused Darkstream is easier to listen to and will probably be better to revisit later.
