The false flags failed

So the Pentagon is taking credit for preventing Iran from following through on its nonexistent plans to attack the United States:
Washington’s peace-oriented threats towards Iran have paid off – at least according to Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan, who says that the Islamic Republic had to “put on hold” its violent plans thanks to US efforts.

While Iran has repeatedly denied allegations that they are responsible for recent tensions and said that they prefer diplomacy to threats, Shanahan on Tuesday was certain that Tehran’s dangerous behavior had only been curbed by the US’s proactive measures.

These peace-keeping gestures presumably include sending a navy strike group to Iran’s border, ratcheting up crippling sanctions and President Donald Trump’s amiable threat to end the country altogether.
Meanwhile, another 10,000 or so hostile foreigners invaded the southern border today. The Pentagon did nothing at all about that and had no comment about either the invasion or its inactivity.

If Trump turns the military loose, they can deal with the problem. But it MUST be considered a military affair, not a civil law enforcement issue.

FWIW, I think this is the one issue that could scupper Trump. He's vulnerable as hell on his right flank.

Good sign if the hawks have reached the "I totally would have kicked your ass if my mom hadn't shown up" stage.

Presidents have started a bunch of wars without the official approval of Congress. It turns out it's harder for the establishment to start a war without the cooperation of the president.

Iran does seek to expand its power through terrorism. Usually through proxies (hezbollah, hamas, etc.). However, the primary targets of that terrorism are Israel and the Sunni states. The US attempts to shore up Sunni states (iraq) or create them (Isis) have been disastrous manifestations of a stupid Israel first foreign and domestic (Hi ADL!) policies. Now, it may well be in US interests to curb Persian expansion and power grabs, but no one ever asks a question about the limits of that interest or what a proportionate response should be. Instead, it is treated as an all or nothing, existential matter for America. Israel, of course, may rightly regard it as an existential matter in the long term.

Meanwhile, our porous southern border and the mass invasion of America IS an existential matter for America but damned few will acknowledge it.

A simple shift to America first policies would pit is on the path to solving both problems, but that isn't feasible yet.

By the way, how many Americans have been killed by Iran and her proxies since 1979? How many more Americans have been killed by immigrants in that same period? American lives don't matter to those who control the American govt. The numbers don't lie.

If it keeps most men away maybe there really is something to the black, female nether region that can be applied to military needs.

A nice training exercise for the army: take control of 2-3 miles of below the southern border and set up "migrant camps" with an airport or two for one way flights south.

Iran's diabolical plan to turn the world on its head and overthrow the global political order:

1) Fire a single ballistic rocket at Riyadh. Maybe they'll hit the king?

2) Fire a single short range rocket at the US embassy. Maybe they'll hit some generals, and some expensive computers and stuff?

3) Sophisticated remote-control toy boat attack on 4 tankers - packed with enough explosives to do moderate structural damage including to a Norweigan-flagged ship.

4) Quadruple their plutonium production. Plutonium is DANGEROUS.

There it is, folks, their master plan! I would not be surprised if they also launch a chemical weapons attack on a comletely nonmilitary target for no military reason, say on children, at Khan Shaykhun, in the next 10-14 days.

Make no mistake, we DO have unfinished business with Iran. They've been waging low-intensity warfare against us since 1979. But we need to choose our time and place...and target. One of the biggest mistakes in the Iraq campaign was targeting the Iraqi Army. We had an opportunity to focus on the Revolutionary Guard (SS analog), and did not take it.

1) THERE IS NO SS ANALOGUE. The Nazi simile is a lie, told to yo to get you to go along with our (((masters'))) plans. The Revolutionary Guard is the professional army, as opposed to the Iranian army, which is the conscripted army. They are no more an "SS analogue" than the USMC is.

2) Iran has not committed half the offenses, not 1/4 the offenses against us that your great good friends in the region, like KSA and Israel have committed. How about, before we finish our business with Iran, we finish our business with the Saudis who financed 9/11, or the Israelis who sank the USS Liberty, or the Pakis who sheltered AlQuaeda and OBL?

Blogger Solon May 22, 2019 12:13 AM

How about we instead pack up all our stuff and go home? Americans don't get blown up in the middle East if they're not in the middle East to begin with. Crazy thought, I know.

Defend our own borders. If the Israelis want to conquer the whole region, let them do it without our boys being sent to die in their stead. Let them do it with their own money too while we're at it.

The Middle East is a shithole. Let them wallow in it. No need to get our own hands dirty.

Blogger ErotemeObelus May 22, 2019 12:21 AM

There's nothing wrong with Israel wanting us to conquer the Middle East for them. It would be a small matter and so easy for us to do that it would barely cost us anything. Just do it quickly, destroy all life, hand them the keys and say "here you go."

Blogger Up from the pond May 22, 2019 12:49 AM

America's legitimate foreign policy interests consist of protecting her own borders from invasion.

All the armchair generals talking about anything else are globalist idiots- for example, the people blathering about how this or that is "harming America's interests" in Timbuktu.

The only good reason why America acted as a global empire was to contain the Soviet threat. But that threat is gone. The Cold War is over.

The moral crusade has petered out. Now it's just a set of different nations with different interests, almost all relating to trade. It's no longer 1956 (and certainly not 1938) anymore. It's time to stop with the hero act and get a job.

That fact is intolerable to our Establishment. They must seek and find "the next global threat." Half are looking around for the new U.S.S.R., the other half are looking under the couch cushions for "the new Hitler."

Remember? Remember when Poppa Bush called Manuel Noriega "the new Hitler"? Then Saddam Hussein was the new Hitler.

China is The New Global Threat. Or Iran is. Or emerging "White Nationalism" is (1938! 1938!).

When they can't put their finger on a super villain, they project their immature jonesing for a moral crusade upon the universe itself. Global warming or climate change will freeze or burn the human race. Mysterious patterns of rain and snow, aka the weather, are the #1 existential threat to the whole planet, naturally calling for a planetary crusade.

Recently the U.S. military was reported as reintroducing WW2-era uniforms. You know what that makes me think? I think somebody has been watching too many Captain America movies.

Pat Buchanan said in his book "A Republic, Not an Empire" that America would be well-advised to become a normal country. In other words, we need to grow up.

Ditch the Empire, ditch the Grand Game (which we won: the Soviet Union is dead), close 90% of our overseas bases, and concentrate on having a normal military that neither fights made-up foes nor acts as mercenaries for Israel or corporations, but instead actually defends the physical integrity of our borders.

There is no reason why the CIA- as corrupt an organization as any that has ever existed- should not be closed down toot suite. If they are allowed to keep LARPing, the aging cloak-and-dagger boys are just going to get more people hurt, especially in BS wars on the other side of the planet, as well as flush more trillions of dollars of other people's money down the crapper.

Blogger Thad Tuiol May 22, 2019 1:01 AM

@21 Exactly, well said.

One of the most bizarre things about this Boltonesque tragedy in the making is that underlying all the US threats is a notion that Iran has no legitimate interests in the region in which it is located. Yet Iran is a big country in a very dangerous part of the world. Seven countries border Iran, and three of them are very unstable. Several ongoing military conflicts are nearby. Counting the Americans, nuclear forces face them on all four sides. Saudi radicalized Sunnis attack Shia in every adjacent and nearby country.

And from two continents away Bolton and other neocon chickenhawks pontificate about how the Iranians should not do what every other country on earth does: look out for itself in its own region.

World Brotherhood types and their penchant for culturally-enriching invaders, and hostility to countries like Iran who just haven't been getting on board.

Get 'em while they're young. Boy's Life magazine Dec 1917:

"World Brotherhood of Boys. Have you ever thought about the wonderful name of this brotherhood of ours? A World Brotherhood of Boys! ... Have you ever really thought what a World Brotherhood could be? The name itself is a great ideal... The building of this Brotherhood is hardly begun... We must reach out to every land under the sun ...until we have forged a living chain of strong young friendship binding together the nations of the earth... Think of the power of that Brotherhood when it numbers millions of boys in all nations, and when those boys are grown up into the men who are managing the world's business and government..."

Iran was probably the deal Trump had to make to be president. Thinking about it Iran/Qatar pulled off quite a heist with the Obama gang, the Jewish owners of the D-party got pawned, and outside of a crypto type like John Kerry not a single player in that heist was Jewish, poor Rahm Emanuel former IDF, former mayor, just plain former man of influence.

FTR I oppose war with Iran simply because Trump is president and it will kill his reelection chances IMO. But if some commie globalist authoritarian halfwit from the D-party or Rino wing were president I would sit back and watch Clownworld fail big.

I was about to propose that fix, but you beat me to it!

It's kind of amazing how unthinkable it is that the US should use the military as response to the obvious invasion occurring right-now at southern border — juxtaposed to the defense and "nation-building" everywhere-but-the-US it's wholly ridiculous.

My first boss explained the behavior of bureaucracy to me as....

They have the ability to swallow an entire camel without even chewing in a single gulp, but stretch and gag over a single gnat.

Only a large bureaucracy can willfully ignore and overlook it's own (boring) primary function and mission in a desperate search for something new and interesting to devote all it's focus and energy. We can see this in every Federal department I have looked at. The bureaucrats consider it being innovative and progressive in their thinking. In my own experience, it is simply marketing.

They need a new buzzword or campaign slogan or sometimes theory or imaginary constituency to pry extra bongo bucks from the treasury....a little extra to hire more new faces to make the news and more indirect cost to give the lard-asses their cut.

Blogger Dirk Manly May 22, 2019 11:03 AM

@23

"Recently the U.S. military was reported as reintroducing WW2-era uniforms. You know what that makes me think? I think somebody has been watching too many Captain America movies."

The reason for bringing back the "Pinks and Greens" is because when the original move from the old "Army Greens" Class-A uniform (worn on occasions when the attire is "semi-formal") was being contemplated, the WW2 style was the most popular with the troops. The Generals decided to take the "Dress Blues" uniform and use it for both ("formal dress" and "semi-formal dress).

It went over like a lead balloon. Those with combat deployments don't like having bare sleeves at social gatherings, and the replacement for the "combat unit patch" -- a pin worn on the jacket just above waist level is a sorry substitute.

So now, the Army is finally doing what they should have done in the first place -- bringing back a Class A uniform that was popular with the troops from the very first mention of getting rid of the "Dress Greens."

The call to bring back the Pinks and Greens pre-dates the "Captain America" movies by almost a decade.

The US claiming that Persian Shi'a are a global threat, while siding with Arab Sunni, is the ultimate in hypocrisy and a complete inversion of truth when it comes to Middle East politics.

I'm glad Trump's pulled away from the precipice of yet another military adventure, but the dancing back and forth is kind of annoying.
