"If you think the SJW convergence in comics was bad already, just wait and see how DC is rebranding its Vertigo imprint."
- Vox Day, June 8, 2018

A number of industry insiders are reporting that Vertigo Comics is in the process of being shut down:
A new rumor indicates DC Comics will shut down their Vertigo Comics imprint.

The rumor comes from Rich Johnston and Bleeding Cool who notes he “has been informed by a number of sources.” He also states  that the shuttering of the iconic comic imprint has “come from on high rather rapidly.”

He notes that DC Comics are revoking some contracts, returning creator-owned titles to creators, and some are being moved within the publisher. We spoke to our own source and they indicated there are rumblings inside DC Comics that Vertigo might be in trouble. They specifically told us Vertigo might be in trouble because none of the recent titles have taken off.

Vertigo Comics was founded in 1993 by Karen Berger and focused on the horror and fantasy genres with comics targeted toward a more adult audience that featured violence, drug abuse, sexuality, nudity, profanity, and other controversial topics. It would eventually house crime, social commentary, and other genres.

While Vertigo Comics has a storied past, it’s current incarnation is anything but. DC Comics announced a relaunch of the imprint under Senior Editor Mark Doyle in 2018 that featured a number of extremely controversial creative teams including Zoe Quinn, Robbi Rodriguez, Ramon Villalobos, Eric Esquivel, Rob Sheridan, and Richard Pace among others.... And while the creators themselves were making controversial statements, their books were not selling. Quinn’s first issue of Goddess Mode only shipped 17,471 copies. The second issue shipped 8,116. It wouldn’t get any prettier.
SJW is corporate cancer.

Shipped 8,000 copies? They would have been better off selling subscriptions to Grit.

Zoe Quinn? Who's the imbecile who hired Zoe Quinn? At least they didn't hire Anita Sarkeesian, and Leigh Alexander, and Brianna Wu, or did they? Maybe they were on a Depression Quest?

But they still get to put it on their resumes and use it to get jobs they aren't qualified in other places.
I'm sure they'll all end up in new places being praised for the work they did at vertigo, because it wasn't -their- fault.
Sadly most upper management don't read the product, so they have no clue what's going on.

How'd you guess? I went looking just to see. Here's some dialogue of the protagonist from #1.

"Unfortunately for everyone involved I'm exhaustingly difficult.

Or Maybe I'm just exhausted.

I wish I was a fantasy badass who could keep throwing herself at brick walls, shruggong off the pain and telling herself that eventually she'll break through.

But I'm not her.

I'm a barely functioning bundle of neuroses who can't master putting on a fitted sheet.

I don't stand a chance at solving problems bigger than me."

It's not like she lacks complete insight.

I understand how having a few left wing infiltrators can spiral into hiring a bunch of them. What I'm still not sure about is how this keeps happening. Hiring these type of left wing grifters had the exact same outcome at Marvel - they turned out a bunch of preachy garbage that nobody bought while spending their time on social media either attacking their audience or whining about how they wanted a different audience.

Is incompetence and ignorance or is the rot actually that deep that these people keep getting hired? Does no one pay attention to the fact that hiring a bunch of zero talent SJW freaks doesn't work out? They can't even pretend it's a token sop to "diversity" or whatever because wouldn't have gone all in on it if it were.

Maybe I'm just not enough of a normie to have the same kind of blindness these people do. It seems like it couldn't get more obvious that hiring these broken children in adult bodies is going to lead to massive failure especially after it's happened several times. But they keep attempting it.

I think this kind of phenomenon is what keeps the Right from rising up to crush the SJWs. If you just let them do what they want, they end up self-destructing and it's funny as hell to watch...

But, as entertaining as it is, these morons take infrastructure with them when they go... Entertainment, businesses, government, utilities, etc. Are being degraded by their implosions.

Which is why I'm grateful for businesses that never converge and states like Wyoming and Alabama that don't give in easily to this kind of shrill pressure.

Reminds me of those zombie comics where the hero had to inevitably face down a loved one who had turned "SHOOT THE HEAD IT'S NO LONGER SHELLY SHE DIED WHEN SHE GOT BIT"

Vertigo died as soon as it was bit.

Vertigo has always been overly dependent on one or two titles to carry the imprint and now they dont' have them.

I remember when it started out in the 1990s. Basically, DC was trying to co-opt the Indy movement of the late 1980s or at least it's audience.

It worked well enough at the time but Vertigo was overly dependent on halo effect of Sandman to keep the rest of the titles moving.

After all nobody wanted to buy just one comic book.

Zoe Quinn was a flat f$%king troll hire.

That was the only reason they brought her onboard.

Who's the imbecile who hired Zoe Quinn?

Imagine the applause that person must have gotten from the blue checkmarks, both online and offline. Way to stick it to those GamerGaters and Trump supporters! When they're tweeting out that they're looking for work, they'll never make the causative connection. Probably Russian trolls kept it from selling.

Un-*&*!-believable. The fact that I know intellectually (thank you Vox and your SJW books) why this happens, belies my continued emotional astonishment when entities such as Vertigo crash. But kudos -- you definitely called it.

@7 "I remember when it started out in the 1990s. Basically, DC was trying to co-opt the Indy movement of the late 1980s or at least it's audience."

I know literally nothing about comics except for the 'big' characters that are familiar to your average geek. My nephew was a fanatic however and I only remember Vertigo in a one off comment sort of like what you said above.

"They are a ghetto Image Comics trying to capture the 'Spawn' phenomenon" something along those lines. So I doubt they were long for this world anyways but nothing adds accelerant to a smoldering fire like throwing some SJWs/NPCs into the mix. A sure solution to imploding whatever is left.

The only guy I knew from this company and it is from this adapted TV works is Neil Gaiman. Preacher is 'decent' and has kept my interest and there is a new series "The Boys" coming out which is basically superheroes if they were assholes who didn't care too much about being good guys.

I like the idea of that sort of a Watchmen morally ambiguous superhero concept. But the other Neil Gaiman thing I'm aware of which is awash in SJW garbage is American Gods. So he is hit & miss at best too.

@NO GOOGLES

The C-suite executives love this kind of stuff, even though it drives their company into the ground it raises their profile among other company executives and leads to the next gig at a bigger company. That plus they've already probably milked the company of as much as they could get out if it anyway. I've seen this in companies other than entertainment and it is the same kind of stuff, no matter what happens to the company they always seem to come out with plenty of cash and prizes.

How is this any different than late night TV comedy and mainstream news? Both of these lose $ but keeping up appearances with the converged bosses is more important. With TV networks, they carry the losers, I guess comics can't... when will Google stop carrying SJW loss leaders?

Let me help you along. Where does their information come from? Media. Shit like this tests well because people feel like they need to impress the survey. That's how tightly the media grasps us. Through mere pavlovian response, major corporations fall for it again and again. They think social media is the jackpot to find out what people want. They never take the thought further than that. They scrape twitter hash tags daily. We should actually award the left because they can provide so much worthless data so consistently its mind boggling. Just look at the only thing that links you and them, and then think what greedy paedophiles, globalists and racists(the are ones) would do with it. They turn into a Democrat in a black neighborhood trying to talk a little bit more thug to fit in. Lmao.

A little OT: everyone is gaga about Good Omens but the "Brand new baby smell" trailer video gave me the creeps. When the satanic nuns sing the line, "His [Antichrist] reign will soon be nigh," Gaiman's head pops on the screen, he looks straight at the camera and nods "yes" very slowly . . . Am I the only one who noticed this? It's everywhere now, right out in the open. "Preacher" was hideous violence porn with excellent covers. I was torn.

Was in Forbidden Planet, a comic book shop that's popular in Manhattan. Noticed several things

1) They had an entire row dedicated to female comic book writers and illustrators with a large sign
2) The store was filled with men. The only women seemed to be the significant others of the guys interested in comics
3) The vast majority of the people there were white, even in NYC (I imagine comic shops in other cities are even more this way)

And Diversity TM was never the goal of these converged imprints, you only need to look at how the same crew react to Manga/Anime, which is a sort of Japanese art medium. Or go to the Wikipedia page for "Comic book". Notice how the contents list: 1) Structure 2) American comic books 3) Asian comics 4)European comics 5) Distribution....etc. Notice any large regions missing? Perhaps comics are not one of their cultural mediums? Why don't they make their own? (There is no market for it even in their countries/regions)

They try to co-opt existing mediums and then the native audience finds it aberrant. Changing the gender, or the skin tone via Photoshop changes the entire dynamic of the medium and is unnatural and readers react that way. The SJW crowd had plenty of time to develop their own style and mediums, but they don't, because SJWs don't read comics, don't read sci-fi, don't do a lot of things frankly. But they want the people who do to read about SJWs anyways , trying to put the spotlight on themselves in hobbies and cultural mediums that other people indulge in.

But people will always find it eerie, as convergence requires a suspension of disbelief on a whole different than the typical needed in super hero stories. Showing a high tech future Wakanda only makes it more apparent in real life that it doesn't exist, and more so, makes you think why, and the dissonance will always be there even in the typical moviegoer's mind. Or how a black female queen is the ruler of a nation that is 99% Space-Scandinavian.

I wonder if any of the SJWs would object to having Martin Freeman's character, or Bucky become King of Wakanda in future Marvel movies. Black Panther could hand the throne to Bucky due to him being brave and fighting in one battle alongside him!

This really isn't anything new.

Back in the day I read Vertigo and enjoyed it simply because it offered something different from the superhero stories of the big two DC/Marvel. Putting Sandman in a nutshell I'd call them 'Surreal ghost stories'. It wasn't until I read a comics history book l learned that superhero comics weren't even the biggest comics in the American era where comics were big! The real big show comics were romance and horror - they outsold everything by a mile. The remains of romance can be seen in Archie, still chugging along today. As for horror, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Tales of the Crypt was based on a comic book of the same name. Vertigo was also an echo of this bygone era.

"By 1953, nearly a quarter of all comic books published were horror titles."
"Romance comics sold well, and affected the sales of both superhero comics and confession magazines. The publisher of True Story admitted that magazines sales were being hurt by the upstart romance comics. The August 22, 1949, issue of Time reported that love comics were "outselling all others, even the blood and thunder variety ... For pulp magazines the moral was even clearer: no matter how low their standards for fiction, the comics could find lower ones.""

So what happened? Censorship. In specific the self-censorship of the Comics Code just like we're seeing on youtube and AGAIN in comics now. Might as well make a "SJW Code" label to slap on them. If you've ever wondered why manga (eastern comics) are so much bigger than our comics look no further than this - self censorship killed the western comics.

(A summary can be found here: https://infogalactic.com/info/Horror_comics
https://infogalactic.com/info/Romance_comics)

If I am allowed a tangent I want to say that in particular Jews ruined comics too. The Shadow and Captain Marvel (the REAL one, SHAZAM!) were made by born and bred Americans. Their copies, Batman and Superman, were made by Jews. Captain Marvel was the biggest selling comic of all time per issue, in all of human history! Even in the era of romance and horror Cap Marvel stood above them. What killed it? Lawsuits from DC (national comics at the time) being run by a Liebowitz. Who were the members of the The Association of Comics Magazine Publishers (makers of the Comics Code)? Big whoop it's Jews.

Looking back even Vertigo had that influence. The biggest titles, Sandman and Lucifer (Lucifer even has it's own tv show), conspicuously never mention Jesus Christ. You'd figure in a world about human faith creating supernatural beings and an actual fallen Archangel they'd fit the Christ in somewhere. The worlds in the stories are as if, as the Rabbinic Jews say, a savior never came and we're in the status quo from the era of Moses.

There probably is a real market for comics that women would read, but not this tiresome feminist drek. The old Creepy and Eerie horror magazines, with Bernie Wrightson and Frazetta, were absolutely first rate. And Veronica!

Considering the Romance genre was shut down for too much 'smut' and 'going against the social grain', a real comic women would read needs to double down on that. Just make a combination of Veronica, 50 Shades of Grey, 'My Secret Garden' and for a dash of horror make the guy a werewolf Trump voter. Make sure to get a perverted female artist to draw lots of V-tapers.
