Delighted to hear it

Damn the rocks and the coastline, it's full speed ahead for Marvel Studios:
Marvel Studios Producer Victoria Alonso: “We Are Actively Working On Making Our Universe As Diverse and Inclusive As We Can”

Marvel Studios producer Victoria Alonso recently did an Ask Me Anything on the Marvel Studios subreddit where she indicated Marvel Studios is “actively working on making our universe as diverse and inclusive as we can.”

Alonso noted that she has been with Marvel Studios since late 2005 at the very beginning of Iron Man. She began as a co-producer on Iron Man and visual effects producer.

During the AMA she noted that her best part of working for Marvel Studios is “to be able to show new generations the characters that represent them in each and every way.” She would go on to note that she “would feel honored to have a member of the LGBTQ+ group represented in our films and I hope the future shows that.”

Alonso’s comments should not come as a surprise. She recently described the X-Men as “outdated” arguing there are a number of female characters in the team. She also discussed how Marvel Studios is committed to diversity at the world premiere of Captain Marvel.

“Why wouldn’t we be? Why wouldn’t we be? I’m so passionate about this. Our entire success is based on people that are incredibly different. Why wouldn’t we? Why wouldn’t we only want to be recognized by one type of person? Our audience is global, is diverse, it’s inclusive. If we don’t do it that way for them, we will fail. If we don’t put pedal to the metal and the diversity and inclusivity, we will not have continued success. Our determination is to have that for all of the people out there watching our movies.”
They're betting on diversity and inclusivity. We're betting against it. Snicker-snack....

I wonder if the MCU will now crumble into embarassment, much like Star Wars, Star Trek, Ghostbusters, or other franchises we once loved. How long will it take?

It's a shame the MCU had to turn hard SJW before they could make a decent Galactus/Silver Surfer trilogy.

Blogger Himself June 07, 2019 4:10 PM

If you are actively Working On Making Your Universe As Diverse and Inclusive As You Can, then why not come up with original stories and characters, rather than taking the old ones and ruining them?

See if it sells.

I think a good fourth tribute of SJWs, in addition to lying, doubling down, and projecting, is ruining everything they touch.

I watched an episode of Young Sheldon and I noticed it was not too diversity/inclusive and it was trying to faithfully reproduce 1980s pre-diversitism-pre-homo, just like how "That 70s Show" was trying to be 1970s, except nobody said "hey" in the 70s; ie. young writers.

Maybe the producers know nostalgia for the old days TV is a winning idea or else we will watch Sheldon grow up over a few seasons and they will celebrate cultural degeneration, and mock his family. I only saw one episode. I will watch again to see if I am correct.

First they need a decent FF.

@2- I wonder this myself. Because popular comic book characters have to be great literary achievements. They can be flukes like Fonzie on Happy Days. What's to stop them from making Gay Fonzie?

When was the last time the industry created a breakout character? Spawn? That was what, the early 90s? Before that, who? Rorschach from Watchmen? Punisher and Wolverine in the 70s? The most popular ones continue to be guys cooked up way back in the 40s-60s.

Whatever it is comic book writers do all day, maybe they could set aside 15 minutes for jumbling Current Year gimmicks together. Like a street "hustler" with AIDS who steals healthy blood from suburban Johns. Or a slam poetress who gets her powers from unrepressing memories of her father being brusque with her and not appreciating her lesbianism fully. Those are just off the top of my head.

Something could stick eventually.

By the way, it's not as though this industry is alone in its creative rut. Star Wars is still living off characters made in the 70s and early 80s. I don't think the prequel trilogy produced any memorable new characters besides maybe the guy with the demon face. And that was only because he had a demon face and a double-sided weapon. The latest movies have the soccer ball robot, who is appreciated for rolling around like a ball and otherwise being a total R2D2 ripoff.

Because the point is to take over the existing audience and coerce them into accepting the diversity, not to build a new audience from scratch. And if the new audience doesn't accept the change, then they are the creaters' enemies who deserve to have their beloved characters crushed before their eyes.

Alt Hero is at the rescue scene from insulting us.

Who is leading Marvel into ruin, why -

Marvel is insulting everyone calling for all this epic stupidity, how are they going to make money from Americans.

Marvel is mind rape.

'Diverse and inclusive' is very scary or alarming - Does this include a nod for pedophobes.

A term I only heard about online in 2019.

Does this make multi species being mixed (into some kind of a monster horror hybrid psycho killer who like has hero power to only save idiots) then adding some ink, blue hair and sodomy then pushing your content, Marvel, into my space everyday and telling me its popular and normal.

Abject culture shock is not the new normal.

Blogger Nostromo June 07, 2019 6:21 PM

Jar Jar was so incredibly offensive to so many people it's tempting to say they did it deliberately, instead of a pander attempt aimed at negroes.

Dr Doom is the most complex character in Marvel. For one thing, he's not actually evil. He is smart, ruthless, and driven to power, and so he does things the normie consider atrocities, but he is a benevolent if harsh dictator in Latvaria. His over riding animus is to free his mothers soul from Mephistopheles, a goal we would all cheer for if one of the FF were attempting it. Make Doom, then the MCU can sink into a cesspit of shit, and I won't miss it.

Blogger Jay in DC June 07, 2019 6:49 PM

Couldn't happen to a nicer group of SJWs. It is always fun to watch religious zealots & ideologues crater their own billion dollar empires but read the ending thought here for why that may not occur at all.

The writing has been on the wall since at least Black Panther. Then it got ramped up big time with Cap'n Marvel which was hot garbage. And they basically shit all over the 'white guy' characters in Endgame much as they did with Star Wars in the last movie as well.

Thor became Lebowski and comic relief. Capt. America decided is was the Negro Cap's time in the spotlight. Thor also gifted his kingdom to a mulatto wahmen. And on and on... Nothing white and male shall have any pure and noble virtues anymore.

Even Deadpool for as 'edgy' and counter-culture as that character was suppose to be had this running diversity theme and was taking the piss out of the white characters making 'jokes' about them being racists, etc. Thinly veiled but, not really...

The thing is, I doubt it will affect their bottom line. Hot on the heels of the article about the precipitous IQ drop in the West, this is a nice lead in. These things don't matter to many people because between their dim wit IQ, addiction to phones, and general lack of sense of purpose or history, they are clueless about messaging.

We are a small minority and I think studios are well aware of this now which is why they continue shoveling garbage out the door. It sells. The numbers don't lie. B.Panther and Captain Marvel both did VERY well at the box office. So the messaging isn't TOO offensive to your average normie robot. It would require a moment of critical thinking a skill that is lost in the sands of time for the vast majority of the population.

She's too late. The latest X-men movie already has a "the women are always saving the men, we should be called X-women" line.

The X-men will be joining the MCU soon. This'll be interesting as X-men movies naturally tend to be the most propaganda filled. As time goes on the effect is backfiring if a movie doesn't make it clear the X-men represent Blacks, Jews, Mexicans or some other minority. I keep seeing comments comparing the X-men to whites.

I'm curious to see if they actually mean it.

I mean this is basically a liturgical response to the question, "what are you going to do about LGBTQASDFQWERTY representation?"

Its not like anyone from Hollywood is going to say, "Nothing! Are you stupid? F4ck those queers!"

Still, they might mean it, it's hard to say because Marvel is in a major transition right now. The guaranteed bankable stars have left the franchise. They've just acquired of Fox's Marvel IPs. And they had a big success with Captain Marvel.

Captain Marvel's numbers were comparable to Captain America: Civil War's, despite the fact that it was a drastically inferior work and the audience rating was 55% on RT. None the less it still made better than a billion dollars world wide.

It might mean that there are indeed enough movie zombies that will watch anything with the Marvel logo on it, that they are indeed safe to make whatever SJW garbage they want.

Hell, Pirates of the Caribbean still rakes in about 800 million and that last one was worst in the series.

Or they might be smart enough to know that Captain Marvel's success was largely the halo effect from Avenger's Endgame. The Marvel audience was at fever pitch and had to get their fix a month early...even if they didn't really like the movie all that much.

Certainly they are going to be under increasing pressure to slit their wrists in the name of NPC politics.

Kristian (no I did spell that right, it is Kristian with a K, god knows why) Harloff is one of the hosts of Collider.

Collider is a shill site. Really that’s all it is. Whenever the big studios want them to whore themselves out for Ghostbusters (2015) or Star Wars the Last Jedi or some other heap of shit. Collider obediently hit it’s knees, it’s mouth forming an O.

After five years of faithful and complete obedience Harloff thought he rated special treatment. He thought he was going to get early access to Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge.

And the response from Disney was; Kristian who?

I liked the Avengers and related films. However, I find that, having left most TV and movies behind a few years ago, I actually get more entertainment from watching SJW attempts crash and burn than I do movies themselves. I can't wait for Ironheart, the Wakandan genius-ghetto-heroine of diversity, to make her debut in film. Hoping, at least. I truly hope they put out everything they can, including a wheelchair-bound tranny black/Hispanic mix superhero. I hope Disney buys 90% of the tickets to make them look like a success. I hope SJW idiots go to these movies to support the cause and leave feeling like they wasted their money. Given the failures of things like Air America and CNN's ratings drop, it seems even leftists can't tolerate their own spew too long. I have more older TV series and movies on disc than I'll probably ever watch again, and with the projects mentioned here coming up, will not lack for any entertainment.

So, please, Marvel. Please roll out Ironheart, fem-Thor, Taco Spiderman, Muslim Marvel, and every character that is so far from their racial average that it's laughable. Please. It's hilarious to watch.

On the other hand, he died from an adamantine bullet lodged in him that leaked into his bloodstream and slowly poisoned him to death in a manner that not even his super regeneration could fix. So you could consider that a metaphor for AIDS if you like.

Blogger CA3 June 08, 2019 9:20 AM

That has me curious. Captain Capitalism pointed out a few years ago on his blog that Disney had rolled Marvel into their marketing budget. It makes sense to do that as you're not expecting marketing to generate any income, but awareness. So, the few million lost wasn't going to make much of an impact. Everyone understood that Disney bought Marvel for their comic book archive and established audience, the same reasons behind why Warner Bros. had purchased DC Comics a few decades prior.

The thing that has me curious though is, given how badly the Disney managed Star Wars films have bombed, how does a company absorb hundreds of millions in losses in movie productions alone, without both killing the companies value, and not emboldening smaller more adept productions to succeed in spite of their previous market dominance?

Blogger Damelon Brinn June 08, 2019 9:57 AM

Or they might be smart enough to know that Captain Marvel's success was largely the halo effect from Avenger's Endgame.

Yes, my impression from a couple forums is that even fans who expected CM to be bad went anyway because they expected it to have setups for Endgame, at least with the CM character, and they wanted to be prepared for Endgame. Plus an attitude of, "Well, I've seen all the others, might as well complete the set." Plus some curiosity about how bad it could be. Plus a Ghostbusters-type "See it to spite the manbabies" effect.

A lot of people still go to see the movies they're told everyone is seeing because that's what they've always done for fun. So if they spend $250M making a movie and another $250M marketing it, they'll sell a lot of tickets. Until they don't because they broke people of the habit of theater-going, which is just starting to happen.

Blogger Damelon Brinn June 08, 2019 10:09 AM

given how badly the Disney managed Star Wars films have bombed

The first three Disney Wars films sold quite well, despite their problems ($2B for TFA and over $1B for the other two). Solo was the only bomb, but they're still in the black for the series, though probably underperforming what they expected when they paid Lucas $4B for the property. They also make money off the merch and have a new theme park thing starting, so they can still pretend the series is healthy.

I think one reason the company's value doesn't suffer is that everyone knows if Disney was ever hurting for money, they have lots of classic properties they could lean on for safe profits. "Beauty and the Beast" sold over $1B a couple years ago. Movie-goers weary of subversion and wokeness would flock to a straightforward fairy tale done right. Heck, if they decided right now to make a straight-up heroic Luke Skywalker story starring Mark Hamill it would be a hit. So even when they're unprofitable, it's because they're choosing to be, and investors figure they can fix that any time they want, so they're still a safe investment. Investors don't know the power of SJW convergence.

"Our audience is global, is diverse, it’s inclusive. If we don’t do it that way for them, we will fail. If we don’t put pedal to the metal and the diversity and inclusivity, we will not have continued success."

She is making a point that does not actually exist. Why are American movies so popular in the world and remain popular decades later? Because they are American. The same is true of Japanese movies, and French movies, and British movies, and German movies, and now Russian, Chinese, Indian, Australian, and Nigerian movies. The least successful movies (and some of the worst) are when they try to copy each other. Could anybody do a remake of Gone With The Wind? Of course, but it would not and could not be authentic. (Gone With The Wind was not a Southern movie. The only Southerners in the cast were two blacks....Big Sam and Prissy. Most of the leads were British.)

For example...The Japanese made their own American Western movies with cowboys and saloons and shootouts. They really could not. The cowboys all took off their boots before entering the saloon, so they ended up with cowboys in their sock feet kicking each other in the saloon brawl scenes. No, it was not intended to be a comedy.

Movies are a bit like steel manufacturing. Each country makes their own steel. Swedish steel is not the same as Dutch steel or Japanese steel or British steel or American steel. They could copy each other, theoretically, but they do not. They each have their own habits and their own traditions and their own sources of inputs and their own sense of economy. Movies are much the same. The global audience goes to a movie with certain expectations and are sometimes delightfully surprised by the unusual but more often they want what they expect. That is why so many people eat at McDonalds and Burger King, even in foreign countries. It is not that this is the best American food but because they know what to expect and it is quick and considered worth the price.

Hollywood is making an epic mistake allowing the SJWs to make their big budget movies. They have the passion of missionaries for making woke movies but the rest of the world does not share their enthusiasm for homosexuals and female heroes and racial militants.

Blogger Bobiojimbo June 08, 2019 6:44 PM

@1 it's already begun. Killing off/retiring all those heroes in Endgame is the opening to this diversity. The comics started years ago. The real question - how depraved will the MCU get in order to be the most inclusive and diverse before it crumbles?

Blogger InformationMerchant June 23, 2019 11:37 PM

In addendum to my comments about her being too late (29) regarding X-men putting in "X-women" comments, Men in Black has also gone that route. I'm not sure how many they sell, but MIB is based off of a Marvel comic and the current movie (the 4th in the series?) has predictably carried on with the inversion trajectory.

All movies with "men" in the title will have the awkward moment where they try to cringe apologetically in regret. Men in Black has two such moments, one near the beginning, one near the end.

We also have smart black woman and goofy white men, we also have taking care of refugees being one of the first MIB missions. There were some things that were out of the ordinary, for example the black woman isn't flawless. Chris Hemsworth is treated a bit unusually too; he gets dreamboat status. At several points throughout the movie, females are staring at him because he's so pretty/he was used to get close to females because he's so pretty/a female makes him sleep with her/it in exchange for saving his life.

It's not as cancerous as other recent movies (Toy Story/Xmen/Captain Marvel/etc are dumpster fires), but it's still pretty funny to watch them squirm. X-People and People in Black would probably be less awkward than women in scenes complaining about the titles.
