The end of the Conservative Party?

This isn't a protest vote. This isn't the European elections. This is an actual vote for a Member of Parliament. The stupid stubbornness of the Remainers in the Conservative Party and their false appeals to the absolute need for EU approval in the name of a deal may end up relegating the party to third-party status.

Predictions based on the latest polls show the Conservatives losing 264 seats, which would mean they wouldn't even win enough seats in Parliament to give the Brexit Party a majority in a coalition government.

never under estimate a pragmatist's willingness to put his own personal interests first. particularly since pragmatists generally had short time preferences.

Not familiar with British politics, but this seems like Conservatives are just as much controlled opposition as the Republicans are in the States.

With a handful of exceptions...

So, who gets the seat?

Looks like Labour.

I wonder what percentage of these CON voters are actually Leave but voted CON out of party loyalty or some other lofty, misguided aim

A good enough Brexit vote to force the Tories to make Boris the new leader. Any remain leader would be party suicide.

Even if Boris does become leader though, Brexit need to keep pushing. Trump didn't build the wall, and Boris isn't even Trump.
Better to get rid of the Tory party entirely, no matter what they say they're going to do.

700 Tory cucks prevented victory. Labour mobilised the Muslim postal vote and still have a fearsome electoral machine. They know who their vote is and where they are, thanks to previous electoral campaigns, and they threw money at it. It's testament to how well the Brexit Party did that they took nearly 30% of the vote on their first try. This clearly shows if you vote Tory, you get Islamo-Labour. Brexit Party took votes from Tory and Labour leavers. Keep your eye on a possible by-election in Brecon. This area is unenriched, there will be no Labour postal vote. If it happens, it's a straight shootout between Brexit Party and the Tories.

Some are calling for a GOPexit Trump party. I think he has to destroy the two-party swamp first:

If the Tories had the option of joining Brexit as coalition partner or letting Labor rule, my money is on they support Labor. Maybe I'm just too jaded from watching Republicans though.

Nothing any German has ever said about American politics is ever connected in any way to reality. They simply don't understand us at all.

In a nice combination of this post and the next one, the Jewish Labour Movement have called for the Labour candidate who won to be thrown out of the party:

"Nothing any German has ever said about American politics is ever connected in any way to reality. They simply don't understand us at all."

With the possible exception of Bismarck's commentary on Providence (assuming it's not apocryphal).

There's a lot of mileage been gotten out of "a vote for x is a vote for Labour" but it seems the shine is coming off of that glamour. That is very very close.

Not a bad result. But it would have been immense if 700 tories had voted for independence.

The usual conservative aim is to terrify the rank and file into voting for them to keep the commies out. People vote on their fears not their principles.

My British coworkers always tell me that the referendum was 49-51 stay/leave and that they need another referendum.

This result lets us all know that a solid majority wants out and a second referendum isn't needed.

The most salient thing in the article is the assertion that, demographically, there is not enough time for Nationalism to prevail.

"Do we have enough time" is something that concerns people.
