"certain forces"

The Iranians are not fooled by the "escalating crisis" either:
As Tehran and London trade accusations over the seized tankers, Iran’s ambassador in London warns that certain forces in the UK aim to use the crisis to boost tensions even further. Ramping up pressure would be dangerous and “unwise,” Hamid Hamid Baeidinejad warned in a tweet on his personal account on Sunday.

That’s why it’s key now for the UK government to “contain those domestic political forces who want to escalate existing tension between Iran and the UK well beyond the issue of ships.”

That said, Tehran is “firm and ready for different scenarios,” Baeidinejad said.
Translation: Iran knows it's the neoclowns trying to draw the USA into war against Iran using the UK. President Trump knows it's the neoclowns trying to draw him into war against Iran using the UK. The admirals and generals of the US military know it's the neoclowns. And they all know this is now happening due to the neoclowns' inability to start a war with Russia in the 2015-2018 period.

No one is fooled in the slightest. Send them back too, Mr. President.

As for the recent troops movements into Saudi Arabia, that probably has far more to do with the fact that the Saudis are losing their war with the Houthis in Yemen than anything to do with Iran.

It's taken a while (forty years), but the Ayatollahs are growing on me.

(((certain forces)))

What's amusing is the way Democrats' "Orange man bad" mentality has played directly into Trump's agenda of ending unnecessary wars through their latest legislation requiring any aggression not in response to an attack on American forces be cleared by congress.

This provision, slipped into the latest military funding bill, is doing an amazing job of outing neocons in conservative circles because they're the only ones expressing concerns about this.

At this point I would believe the Iranians way before I'd believe the US or UK government.

Blogger Thad Tuiol July 21, 2019 7:49 AM

As a former Cold War warrior and patriot I never thought I'd say this, but...if we are stupid enough to take the bait of getting into a war with Iran, I hope we get our arrogant, hubristic, pampered, fat, idiotic asses kicked. It's the only thing that will save us at this point.

"As Tehran and London trade accusations over the seized tankers, Iran’s ambassador in London warns that certain forces in the UK aim to use the crisis to boost tensions even further. "

It's like the prelude to World War I all over again.

With Israel so cloce, why waste American lives? The "greatest ally" should do the job Americans don't want to do.

Point. Three strategic bottlenecks can get involved quickly and make things ugly: Straits of Hormuz, Suez Canal, and Straits of Malacca. Time to studiously ignore the developing situation unless a key American interest is involved. Do not make the Russian mistake, don't come to save Little ((())) Brother from a deserved drubbing. Give the Great Powers breathing room and space/time to keep their associates and allies calm.

I cannot help but remember what Michael Hudson wrote back in February this year - https://crushlimbraw.blogspot.com/2019/02/trumps-brilliant-strategy-to-dismember.html?m=0 - that is why I archived it.
In it, he refers to his writing about this issue back in the 70's and now he sees it as Trump's plan to break up the American empire - all with the direct action of the NeoClowns hanging themselves.
It's a long Unz article, as usual, but I have highlighted some sections to summarize the basic premise - I read it full text this morning - if true, it's making my day!

I'm still stuck on the amounts of cash in bribes that have had to occur in this drama. From the Obama admin seemingly dunking on the professional jews of the Democratic party by the Qatar/Iran axis to the rebribing of DC by the Israeli/Saudi scoundrels. Then as post #2 alludes to the Democratic party upping its bribe price, which quite frankly is bold as heck. How much is Nancy P. going to charge for D-party war votes?

The real question is, "How far are these nuttos willing to go?"

Someone might sneak in an push the big red button on a nuclear strike or a new 9/11, and when they do?

Heck, Persians are practically white. At least compared to some of the other peoples in the region, if you know what I mean and I think you do.

These dumb new Democrats who drink their own Koolaid are a blessing. The goal of the entire political establishment is to start a war while giving the Democrats deniability so they can blame it later on Trump/Republicans. Their provision would be a great way to set that up if Trump were the warmonger they keep insisting he is.

the admirals and generals are some of the biggest neocons around. if you're waiting for them to stop this i hope you packed a lunch. they're itching for a fight. the uk is a disgrace and an embarrassment, we should break off all relations with them. the special relationship is long over. after trump covered theresa may's rear end on a number of occasions and she has done nothing but betray us, especially with her salisbury crap where mi6 completely botched a job that should have been easy. then trump was forced to make the mistake of expelling 60 russian diplomats on the basis of a lie. if we have to choose between the uk and russia i'm going with russia every time. russia is the future, the uk is the necrotic past. shovel some dirt on it and pretend it never existed.

Isn't the Yemen war with Saudi Arabia a proxy for Iran?

Is this a big game to avoid Brexit?

Blogger Hammerli 280 July 21, 2019 1:17 PM

I think the Iranian government is trying to get the Europeans to twist Trump's arm and get him to lift sanctions. Trump is making sure that the Iranians provide an unequivocal causus belli.

Because I don't see this as an Iraq or Afghanistan rerun, complete with nation-building games. A conflict will be a smash-and-leave operation.

The question I'd be working my intelligence people overtime on is the relative loyalty of the Iranian regular military versus the Republican Guards. All these regimes are reminiscent of Nazi Germany, with parallel regular and political armed forces. And it might prove feasible to split them apart.

Blogger Peter July 21, 2019 4:17 PM

I find if hard to beleive that anyone thinks that in a 1:1 conflict between the US and Iran that Iran wins. In every catagory the US is way ahead of Iran and Iran loses. And when it starts, israel will jump in too,

Blogger Theproductofafineeduction July 21, 2019 4:39 PM

Why risk even a smash and leave operation when there is so little national interest involved? Canada supplies us 1 1/2 times more Oil than the entire Middle East. THTenmiddle east has been a tremendous waste of lives, treasure and power for us.

Let’s build more nuclear reactors, research energy banks, more hydro, wind whatever. We don’t have to be involved with that god forsaken region if we don’t want to.

Blogger Theproductofafineeduction July 21, 2019 4:44 PM

Are you familiar with a 20002 war game where the hypothetical scenario involved Iran and the US got their asses handed to them?

It was estimated that 20,000 US personal and a significant number of blue water ships would have been sunk if the Iranians utilized the same tactics that the Marine general utilizing team red.

But more to the point, what do you think would happen if we had an equivalent to D Day where we win tactically but lose 5,000 lives in the process in a couple of days of fighting? I don’t think the American people ave the will to suffer those loses for a war with no real obvious American interest.

Blogger Daniel July 21, 2019 6:49 PM

Vietnam lol

Blogger kurt9 July 21, 2019 6:50 PM

I don't think anyone who is not of the neoclown persuasion is fooled by these shenanigans.

Blogger JovianStorm July 21, 2019 7:21 PM

Why did the UAE not dig a canal bypassing that strait? They could be making tons of money and goodwill on a trade route guaranteed to not result in Iranian encounters.

Blogger Peter July 21, 2019 9:53 PM

@19.. Yes i am and such games make the likelihood of it occuring in real life that more unlikely. Gen Riper is smarter than 10 Iranian generals combined.

@11 "How far are these nuttos willing to go?"

Which "nuttos" do you mean? Tne Iranians, the Brits, or our own (((home-grown))) neocons and their masters?

I'm not sure that the Admirals want a war. They are still trying to get their ships and crews to be able to actually navigate and transit without mishap.

They aren't trying very hard at any of that. All their effort goes into diversity, sexual harassment training, and drug and suicide training.
