  1. Do we have a man on the ground in Glasgow for the Scotch Stream?

  2. I'm actually interested in this. I've always sorta liked wine, but tended to drink whatever looked good in the $9 range. After a friend gave us a bottle of the 2015 Château de Husson Châteauneuf du Pape, I feel like I've become aware of a whole new dimension of enjoying wine. It was amazingly good, and made even better by enjoying it with some of the other Ilk. Now I'm hooked on excellent wine, but do I have to spend $70 a bottle to get that experience? If there's really good but inexpensive stuff out there, I don't have the knack for finding it.

  4. Vox, you said in a recent stream that you consider the horror genre corrupt, possibly outright evil. I was wondering whether you could expand on that some time. For a long time I’ve considered horror stories to have a strong moral framework, although that is, of course, influenced by the worldview of the person telling the story.

I don’t know whether you’d prefer to cover this in a blog post or a stream, but either way, I’d be very interested to hear more.

  5. Glasgow?! Inverness for the Speysides, Port Ellen for the Islays. Must be a Sassenach.

  6. @Stickwick Stapers - Lots of great wines in the $5-$15 range. It helps to have a Costco (price) or a good wine store (knowledge) nearby. If you find a small wine store, get to know the owner; they usually LOVE to talk about wines and good value.

You mentioned that you like Chateâuneuf-du-Pape (one that I like a lot), so you probably like a strong grape like Grenache (global), Zinfandel (USA), Primitivo (Italy), Syrah (global), Shiraz (typically Australia).

We are in Avignon every year after Christmas, and that is the center for Chateâuneuf-du-Pape. Always look forward to a bottle with a nice filet!

  7. Ha I know Chateauneuf du Pape! It was in a Beastie Boys song.

I'M NOW A WINE EXPERT. A SUMMERLEIGH, IF YOU WILL.

  8. I like the content of the video but please fix the audio. The background noise is a huge issue for me.

  9. I guess I can live vicariously through their wine-stream - I just cannot drink wines, as they trigger migraines for me, unfortunately. I know nothing about wines. But, kuddos for another fine addition to the Unauthorized.TV's line-up!

  10. @qualitycontrol - filming outside presents some challenges, but we are experimenting with different equipment so hope to solve it.

  13. Quick question guys...I am a little behind the newest Darkstreams and have just seen, that on YT there is only one left: 459. Has Vox deleted them or were they deleted?

  14. You people need to try South African wine

  15. Tried to get the wife into better wines. She's a Mogan David type of gal. Upgraded her to Manechevitz(sp) True story. She has Kool aid with sterno taste. After all, she did pick me.

  16. I think both Vox and Owen are taking their YT vids down after 1-2 days. You can find ALL of them on Unauthorized.tv

  17. Drank a lot of "wines of the world" while living in CA and Switzerland, but now that we are in Spain, we drink local!

  18. OK, Nostromo - We will help you and your wife! Vox actually reviewed an Israeli red in one of his winestreams. I tried it, and it was very drinkable. No more Maneshewitz... https://modernfarmer.com/2014/09/manischewitz-great-story-great-wine/

  19. @Brian S - Funny you should mention the Celeste... That is our next review. One of our "Special Occasion" favorites!

  20. Hey Farley and Elizabeth! What FUN! Please also -- for the complete tyros in the group -- do a stream on "wine tech." I sort-of recognized the ... um, the thing that cuts the foil (foil?) when you pulled it out to open your red, although I was wondering if it would/could also extract the cork. Then, I watched in delight as you pulled out your wee Rube Goldbergian device to extract the cork like magic!!

So, for those Ilk and Bears who only know screw-top bottles or boxes {wince} please, at some future point, do a "how to get IN there" stream? I do sort-of know how to operate a cheapie cork extractor and, mostly, I don't leave cork bits floating, but that's mostly a matter of luck not skill.

And no, I have never even SEEN wine-in-a-box, just heard jokes about it.

  21. @Avalanche - Sounds like a good idea to start a Winestream Barcelona with a primer on the various gadgetry that we use!

WRT wine in a box and screw-tops, there has been a LOT of progress. While I need to do a little research, I think a lot (maybe all) Australian wines have moved to screw tops. Not sure if it is appropriate for a wine that you will store for 10+ yrs.

WRT wine in a box, when I last went to visit Vox he was duly prepared with a lot of our favorite reds. Lo and behold, one of them was a 5l box of Pata Negra! Pretty awesome, as it is easy to store and because it is vacuum packed, you can drink it for a long time after opening.

The downside is that you can't see how much you are drinking... I learned the hard way that I put a BIG dent in that box!

To confirm what TaurianVita said, Vox is deleting them.

You can access the older ones on Unauthorized.tv. They will also be smoother, since YT stream quality has been terrible lately.
